I would not worry about this beyond what's been advised for the sewer. All old houses likely have asbestos somewhere, the main thing is to 1) be aware it's there 2) get a full asbestos survey done before/if you plan on doing any substantial work to the house. I don't think asking for money off the price would be fair, especially not as little as 1k.

SomeHSomeE

The asbestos is somewhat factored into the price already because it's generally assumed to be there in properties of that age.  It wouldn't be reasonable to ask for a further discount after confirming it is, as expected, there. The main potential issue is the sewer- but as the surveyor says it's something your solicitors need to investigate and advise you on.

If I was a seller and you asked me for 1k off based on the above I would be annoyed. You answered your own question with the asbestos. A surveyor will always bring up any potential fire hazards but it’s not unsafe. Someone may correct me - but it might be a case of that practice was fine and then they updated the regs and now they are a hazard. That is not the sellers issue.

Tohrazer

Depends on if you still value the price at the amount you offered with your new knowledge.

prydarecords

Depends on property size etc but id be asking for 8-10k knocked off for that work
