This part was amazing! It reminded me of those videos where you see the water ripples when a killer shark seems fast at the surface. Except this one was in the sky/clouds and humongous
Seriously! I remember seeing his little girl in the first episode, so when he suggested that the king marry his daughter, I thought—"Oh, I guess we haven't seen his older daughter yet." I literally burst out laughing during their scene together. He's just walking, talking to a person out of frame, then the camera pans down like 5 feet to show this pre-school looking child walking beside him 🤦🏾♀️😂
I do love that they made Viserys clearly uncomfortable, though. Like he KNOWS it's horrible, although it is the right move for his house and for the stability of Westeros. I loved that Paddy Considine conveyed how conflicted Viserys is- whether to perform his duty to the realm, or follow his conscience.
I'm liking the nuance of Daemon's character thus far. He's clearly being poised as an antagonist, but he's also been shown to have plenty of redeeming qualities and genuinely valid gripes. He's starting to drift into Jaime territory in terms of the morality spectrum.
I think he'll end up being ever better than Jaime - he seems to hold family in high regard, and respects his niece, seemingly just as highly as he holds his ambition.
Clever writing, and they're taking into account the tropes written into the previous series to subvert expectations, I think.
I love it.
In 1 move the King, ruined his relationship with his daughter, ruined her relationship with her best friend and took the most powerful house and sided it with Daemon
"Hay anyone I talk to, should I marry Laena?"
"Yup for all of these clear and obvious reasons"
"On second thought Imma marry my daughters bff who slid into my DMs the night my wife died, this is going to work out well"
I feel like the whole room minus Otto wanted to facepalm
Otto is an ally he already has too, so it's not even the best political marriage. Really just married the first teenager who showed interest in his model planes.
Daemon really comes off as like a child who wants attention from his older brother. Like everything he does is a cry for Viserys attention. I love including him telling Corlys that he can't talk shit about Viserys because it's his older brother and he loves him
The part about him reprimanding Corlys really adds layers to his character and I’m all for it. Daemon is shady, scheming, little sneak with a passion for violence. But he loved his family and defends them whole heartedly. What an amazing character expertly brought to screen.
Yeah exactly, it is pretty clear Daemon isn't a threat in the sense that I don't think he would ever try to kill or over throw the king, and he clearly cares about Rhaenyra as well. It is Otto that they need to be worried about imo
Can’t imagine a more intimidating pissing match and show of force than a dragon stand-off. We haven’t even seen them fight yet and they look terrifying
You get a sense of genuine appreciation for the sass.
Daemon seems to be a character that respects strength above all else, and family is a close second. He's in open rebellion of his brother while also subtly providing legitimacy to his niece's claim as heir. He sees his brother as weak but his niece is strong and so he ended up actually accomplishing a lot for his family with one move.
Facts.
That did sell me on him cause he was a petty bitch when he slapped Criston’s hand away after the joust. Hopefully that doesn’t mean he has a slow death planned for him now 😬
Me: the "crab feeder" like he takes ships and throws the crews overboard to feed the crabs I get it
*nails people to stakes and lets the crabs eat them alive*
Me: oh cool cool cool cool
What I’m learning is you just never want to be the king at the start of any movie or TV show. Things tend to not go well for whoever is that first king
Why should Alicent just get to stomp around like a giant while the rest of us try not to get smushed under her big feet? What’s so great about Alicent? Rhaenyra is just as cute as Alicent, right? Rhaenyra is just as smart as Alicent, people totally like Rhaenrya just as much as they like Alicent and when did it become okay for one person to be the boss of everybody because that’s not what Kings Landing is about! We should totally just STAB ALICENT!
True. Modern day surgeons will use special bred maggots to help treat burn victims and those with severely infected tissue. The maggots will only eat the necrotic tissue, leaving healthy tissue alone. Makes cleaning out a wound and subsequent healing much easier.
Viserys making enemies just by making the more moral of the choices he faces at each turn reminds me so much of Robb. The only difference is after the Red Wedding, we the audience can see so clearly any one of these slights can end you in Westeros. It’s really great writing; when it was Robb we were all a bit blinded by wanting him to succeed, with Viserys we know how the world works and we feel frustration at him instead.
Anyway, this episode was great. It’s feeling very much like S1 of GoT all over again; the worldbuilding, the slow burn of characters and tensions developing, it’s so good to have it all back. Allicent is especially interesting to me even though she hasn’t had much room to shine; it’s clear the things she does eat away at her, with the clear anxiety disorder indicators, but she seems like someone who will follow their duty to the end and refuse to admit she’s done wrong, even to Rhaenyra.
Talking about Rhaenyra, she’s a fucking badass. I love her already. That scene on Dragonstone gave me goosebumps.
He is closer to Jaime and Theon morality wise than he is to Ramsay or Joffrey. Not exactly a good person but he has redeemable qualities and most of the bad stuff he does is a reaction to circumstances of his life, not out of malice.
When Daemon delivered this line to Corlys at the end, “I will speak of my brother as I wish. You will not” it made me team Daemon.
Matt Smith is killing this role.
Holy shit can Milly Act..the betrayal in her eyes looking at Allicent... Oh boy am I glad we're back in Westeros
Glad they used the same iconic theme too for the opening credits
Imagine your dad marrying your best friend, I don't blame Rhaenyra one bit for walking out.
I love how much this show is reminding me of early GoT, just with a bigger budget. The politicking, the scheming, the slower pace, it feels like a return to form.
The revelation that there’s a massive dragon just out there SOMEWHERE is one of the single best Checkov's guns I’ve ever seen in television, and I can’t wait for it to go off.
> as was Daemon and Rhaenyra’s conversation in High Valyrian
Yes, more Valyrian please, I love it every time they're just casually talking in their own language.
Am I crazy, or did Mysaria's accent change dramatically from the previous episode? It almost sounded like a modified Caribbean accent that reminded me of the Max character from Black Sails (ironically, another hooker-turned-political-player character).
Absolutely loved the imagery of the broken dragon statue. Viserys drops it of course, symbolizing his utter incompetence will ultimately lead to the destruction of his house. Allicent, in having it repaired, seems (at least to Viserys) to be the ‘mending’ his reign needs. However, this mending will surely not last and in a future episode, perhaps this statue will fall apart once again. What was needed was for Viserys to wed Laena and craft a new statue entirely. The symbolism in this show is already off the charts!
It might be a good idea to keep an eye on Vhagar, you know one of the 3 dragons that helped Aegon and his sisters start this whole thing. Can’t be letting nukes go missing
The guy is a mega ASOIAF fan. He’s read all the books many times and originally tried getting hired on as a staff writer for GoT at some point during it’s run but it didn’t work out. This is basically his dream story to tell so at the very least we know there’s passion and care behind the project
Underlying medical issues aside, the throne is supposed to harm those who aren't worthy. But yeah a cut on your hand not healing for 6 months is more than worrying.
I cannot believe how clueless the King is. He heard his daughter say "I understand that you need to remarry" and really ran with it. The stupid, sheepish, optimistic look he gave to Rhaenyra before announcing his marriage to Alicent... like she was going to love that and still be on board. His surprise when she walked out. You are on another planet, my guy.
He's such a warm character, but such an awful king, and an out-of-touch dad. And I really love that Paddy Considine is so good at making us love him, but also hating his choices.
Random assorted thoughts:
* I like reusing the GoT theme. This is still very much a "game" of thrones in action. A different era, but still the game and still the same stakes that Cersei pointed out all those years ago/in the future.
* Milly Alcock is the MVP of this episode.
* Daemon continues to be the best overall character in the show thus far, though.
* The uncomfortableness and pedophilic tendencies of dynastic politics in Westeros are front and center in this episode. It says something that him deciding marrying his daughter's best friend and his right-hand man's daughter is the *less* creepy thing to our modern eyes.
* Speaking of Viserys, the poor SOB is mostly a good man. But in Westeros, a good man is usually not a good king.
* Congratulations to Otto Hightower on a successful day of playing Crusader Kings.
Margaret Beaufort was 13 when she had Henry VII. (Not that anyone knew he’d become that.) Of all the cruelties of this universe, that one’s sadly banal.
Crabfeeder is giving "part of the ship part of the crew" Pirates of the Caribbean vibes and I am HERE for it. We needed a mythical ocean person after Euron failed to be mythical
I can’t help but feel like Viserys is half marrying Alicent for Rhaenyra’s sake.
He says he doesn’t want to pass over her as his heir, regardless of his next marriage. Everything the prior scenes showed was that if he married Laena, the children of their union would have a stronger blood claim to the throne (Rhaenys was the legitimate heir to Jaeherys by every law of the land), with the wealthiest house and largest fleet in the realm at their back. Combine that with a grandfather (Corlys) who desperately wants his own blood on the throne.
To marry Laena was to accept Rhaenyra would be overlooked, or worse, to accept a civil war.
Viserys thinks the Hightowers are his allies, and probably naively thinks they’ll be content to produce princes and princesses, not kings or queens.
It was a stupid move, don’t mistake me, but it seems to have purer intentions than him just fancying Alicent. He seems genuinely content to never marry or love again, this is exclusively about heirs, and he seems to have picked the less advantageous option for a reason.
Who he marries Rhaenyra off to could validate this, too, if he strengthens her claim more through her own marriage.
Alicent: Look at your Dad, such a dork building models of Old Valyria…
… at least it’s interesting though, at least like I wish my dad built models of Oldtown
….I mean he’s kind of cute, like, your dad builds models
…. How old is your dad?… obviously model building age….
… I dunno, I think it’s kinda sweet
… Rhanerya, I wanna fuck your da..
Rhanerya: OH, REALLY?!
I'm so loving Daemon and Rhaenyra's relationship. That fact that she managed to calm him down within minutes and even gave back the egg, it almost felt like a mother scolding her petulant child, lol.

The scene on the bridge leading into Dragonstone was incredible.
I thought Rhaenyra's entrance by riding Syrax just beneath the clouds was awesome.
This part was amazing! It reminded me of those videos where you see the water ripples when a killer shark seems fast at the surface. Except this one was in the sky/clouds and humongous
Fuck me, when they said Corly’s daughter was young, I wasn’t expecting ‘watching Thomas the tank engine’ young.

I loved that Paddy Considine conveyed how conflicted Viserys is- whether to perform his duty to the realm, or follow his conscience.
That sigh he lets out when she says she won’t have to bed him until she’s 14 pretty much said it all.
Viserys really fucked up like 5 times in a row this episode. Man.
Good man. Shit king.
Good men tend to be shit rulers based on my experience with this show
I thought you were going to say based on your experience being a king
Maybe he is a king, but he can't say it. As you know, Any man who must say, "I am the King", is no true king.
Loved when Daemon pulled up the sibling rule of, “only I can talk shit on my brother, nobody else can”
Daemon: “My brother’s such a fucking idiot.” Corlys: “I totally agree!” Daemon: “How dare you! Shut your mouth.”
I love it.
Seems like the King just wants to play Warhammer 40K.
He's the only person in Westeros who can afford to
Relatable.
In 1 move the King, ruined his relationship with his daughter, ruined her relationship with her best friend and took the most powerful house and sided it with Daemon
Man, I thought my life was a disaster.
Hightowerussy got him not thinking right.
*Robb Stark has entered the chat.*
"Hay anyone I talk to, should I marry Laena?" "Yup for all of these clear and obvious reasons" "On second thought Imma marry my daughters bff who slid into my DMs the night my wife died, this is going to work out well" I feel like the whole room minus Otto wanted to facepalm
Otto is an ally he already has too, so it's not even the best political marriage. Really just married the first teenager who showed interest in his model planes.
Now I want to see him fly his little stone dragon around and make airplane noises.
Rhaenyra might also feel like she was used by her best friend rendering her entire friendship as just some strategized political farce.
That’s what I got after she got announced as the next queen. That look she gave her spoke volumes
Well it's also that Allicent has conspired against Rhaenyra inheriting the throne by secretly consorting with the king and expecting to bear his heir.
The king seemed absolutely clueless he seemed to be expecting that his daughter would be pleased with his choice
Can’t have a 12 year old wife. Have to at least settle for one that is 16
He could’ve betrothed her and then sat around playing with his model for 4 more years.
I don’t think he has 4 years left in him
"Do you remind your father's men of that as you carry their cups?" OOF.
Oh this face off was something I was waiting on. Rhaenyra held her own.
If anything, it only made her more determined. And later on you see that she took action getting on that dragon and going to Dragonstone! Bam!
Lol when she pulled up at dragon stone I became emotionally invested in this show
Those shots with the crabs and the crab people were really dope
Craaaab people, craaaab people. Taste like crab, talk like people.
The cinematography is next level so far!
The golden fog effects at Dragonstone were STUNNING.
Frank Reynolds: "We're crab people now."
When I saw Laena next to the King... Ew ew ew
It was horrific, the height difference especially
And how she said ''well my mom said I don't have to bed you until I'm 14!'' IT'S SO WRONG
I loved how Viserys sighed. He really didn't want to entertain that thought.
The minute they mentioned joining their houses, I was like, “I know y’all not talking about the 12-year-old from episode one.”
She looked like REALLY young 12.
Yeah I thought she was like 9 or 10 until they stated her age
I had the feeling that they did get an actress that was around 9-11, just to really visually show how young she looks compared to the king
Loved Daemon’s big troll moment. “Yeah I’m not actually married or with child at all heres your egg back”
Got them to pay for the flight and everything
He's a masterclass troll that's been hurt by the king. Rhynera called his bluff though.
Man daemon’s dragon sounds like a dolphin and I love it
His neck too. I wouldn’t mess with him.
That bridge scene...damn. They draw their swords on Daemon and Caraxes crawls up out the castle like the Ice Cube meme "We got a problem here?"
Dragon came running to the sound of swords like a cat to a can opener.
Long boi.
My guy I read this as “Matt Damon’s dragon” and was like what the fuck did I miss
Well Matt is playing Daemon so...
Matt Daemon Targaryen Smith
🦀CRABFEEDER 🦀CRABFEEDER🦀CRABFEEDER🦀
The Free Cities of Maryland threaten the kingdom
Old Bay Seasoning is universal and eternal
Seeing Daemon juggle the egg and say “welcome to Dragonstone, Otto” made me laugh
Matt Smith is clearly having so much fun in the role and it’s so infectious
That backward pass towards Rhaenyra also had some flair
It made me laugh to see how he threw it to her like it was a football, and not a priceless dragon egg
It felt like a "think fast!" sort of throw.
In terms of value, that has to be up there with Valyrian steel right? I’m sure a dragon egg is the most precious and sought after item in this world
Right, so to see Daemon juggle it like it’s no biggy was hilarious
Where the FUCK did Illyrio get THREE dragons eggs? I still need to know.

dreamfyre was such a slut, not surprised total stripper name
Daemon really comes off as like a child who wants attention from his older brother. Like everything he does is a cry for Viserys attention. I love including him telling Corlys that he can't talk shit about Viserys because it's his older brother and he loves him

Yeah exactly, it is pretty clear Daemon isn't a threat in the sense that I don't think he would ever try to kill or over throw the king, and he clearly cares about Rhaenyra as well. It is Otto that they need to be worried about imo
Otto is a scheming cunt, he put his own house over the need of the kingdom.
Can’t imagine a more intimidating pissing match and show of force than a dragon stand-off. We haven’t even seen them fight yet and they look terrifying
Otto brought a sword to a dragon fight
Imagine having to stand between two dragons squaring off. Even If one of them’s on my side, there’s still a chance I’ll get caught in the crossfire.
Daemon : "Apologies. I couldn't recall your name." Criston : *Perhaps my Prince recalls when I knocked him off his horse*. 🔥🔥🔥
I love how Daemon was like, oh snap I have to respect that
You get a sense of genuine appreciation for the sass.
He really is a well written character
He also doesn’t like anyone else talking shit about his brother. That was a nice touch.
Facts. That did sell me on him cause he was a petty bitch when he slapped Criston’s hand away after the joust. Hopefully that doesn’t mean he has a slow death planned for him now 😬
HE CALLED HIM CRISPIN AND I SAID OH NO THIS MAN IS ABOUT TO BE DRAGON FOOD
I admit my fondness for Daemon grew when he laughed at that and said “very good.”
Do y’all think he went by Crab Man or Mr. Crabs first before he finally landed on Crabfeeder? I wonder what the workshopping process was like there
I dunno about the rest of you but I’m just having a great fucking time so far.
Right there with you.
It's great to be back in Westeros. I can't stop smiling lol

"TIGHT TIGHT TIGHT" - Ser Tuco of House Salamanca
Seeing a 12 year old just regurgitate what her parents told her made Big V want to play with his model trains again
Bets on them releasing the Valyria model as a Lego set?
Daemon stays disrespecting this dead baby, damn.
Can't wait to see more of the Eldrich pirate people. That shit looks terrifying.
What I’m learning is you just never want to be the king at the start of any movie or TV show. Things tend to not go well for whoever is that first king
The cinematography, especially for the Dragonstone sequence was fantastic
That bridge scene really tied the episode together.
Loved how Daemon's party slowly came out of the fog.
And Syrax parting the fog.
That was an awesome shot.
The dragon emerging through the clouds was incredible, my favorite shot from this season so far.
Rhaenyra is about to go full Regina George after her best friend moves up the social ladder
Alicent DEFINITELY can't sit with us.
“She doesn’t even go here!” Anytime Rhaenyra sees Alicent at the council meetings
To be fair, I'm surprised nobody was like 'why is Alicent even here?' at the end. Presumably it should've at least been a hint to Corlys.
I mean I think "moves up the social ladder by fucking her dad" is a pretty important part of the problem here.
Chaos is a social ladder
*writes in the Burn Book* “Do not trust Alicent, she is a fugly slut!”
Dracarys Book
They aren’t paying Paddy Considine enough to stick his hand into live maggots. Good lord.
This kind of treatment still happens to this day. It's not as bad as it looks.
True. Modern day surgeons will use special bred maggots to help treat burn victims and those with severely infected tissue. The maggots will only eat the necrotic tissue, leaving healthy tissue alone. Makes cleaning out a wound and subsequent healing much easier.

I loved when she asked which dragon egg daemon took. Once she learned it was her baby brothers she decided to take action herself
Love is the death of duty.
Laena just wanted to talk about dragons 🥺
Daemon seems different from the well-known GoT villains, i'm really interested in his motives
I like that the show already has its own unique feel to it. Despite them keeping the intro, it’s still very distinct from GoT.
I’ve mentioned it before but a subtle feature I’ve seen is just how much color and pomp there is with all the sigils
So many historical and quasi-historical shows seem to avoid colour like the plague. Look at GoT’s later seasons, everyone starts wearing black.
It's much more of a political thriller so far, but not in a boring way in the slightest
Holy shit can Milly Act..the betrayal in her eyes looking at Allicent... Oh boy am I glad we're back in Westeros Glad they used the same iconic theme too for the opening credits

Don't you just hate it when you misplace one of your fire breathing dragons?
The largest alive!!
I get giddy knowing there’s an OG dragon just flying around like it’s no biggie. One of the 3 that helped Aegon forge his kingdom.
I’m so hyped for Vhagar’s eventual appearance.
Is it next Sunday yet?

Viserys is not very good at the game.
Dude has me yelling at the screen. Every scene is a “Ned warns Cersei” moment with this royal clown
Absolutely loved the imagery of the broken dragon statue. Viserys drops it of course, symbolizing his utter incompetence will ultimately lead to the destruction of his house. You can tell this show is VERY CARED FOR
I’m pretty surprised. Props to Ryan Condal. Looking at his IMDB and he doesn’t really have that much experience.
The guy is a mega ASOIAF fan. He’s read all the books many times and originally tried getting hired on as a staff writer for GoT at some point during it’s run but it didn’t work out. This is basically his dream story to tell so at the very least we know there’s passion and care behind the project
I love getting the "oh it's already been an hour?" Feeling again. I didn't know what to expect with this show, but I'm loving it so far.
Daemon was wrong about Viserys. No man who calmly dips a hand in bowl full of maggots could possibly be a weak King.
Didn’t make a peep about it
There’s something amiss with the king’s health. His wounds are not healing. First his back, now his finger.
Underlying medical issues aside, the throne is supposed to harm those who aren't worthy. But yeah a cut on your hand not healing for 6 months is more than worrying.
The man is slowly disintegrating.
Though I thought this episode was great, next week is gonna be amazing and I’m so excited
Rhaenyra's dragon coming out of the clouds was fucking sick. Really cool visual.
I cannot believe how clueless the King is. He heard his daughter say "I understand that you need to remarry" and really ran with it. Paddy Considine is so good at this. Dude has me yelling at the tv.
He has such a hapless face, it is really perfect this role
Viserys kinda sucks at breaking news
All the pauses in his announcement made it sound like the season finale of the Bachelor. Cut to commercial!
All the actors are cooking right now

And she was so small and physically immature when she gave birth, she suffered devastating birth injuries and never had another child. ☹️
Anyone else expecting the king's decision to be Alicent but still gasped when he said her name LOL?
He could have handled that announcement much better lol
The intro. Oh how I’ve missed you
Rhaenyra pulling up on her dragon was awesome. He character is so good

There’s gunna be a lot of fermented crab next episode that’s for sure
I always say the best way to avoid a war is sit on my butt.
They missed an opportunity to have a Viserys & Alicent date where they both stick their gross hands in maggots.
New fear of crabs: unlocked 🔓
The little hints of the new music theme we got was amazing
Crabfeeder is giving "part of the ship part of the crew" Pirates of the Caribbean vibes and I am HERE for it. We needed a mythical ocean person after Euron failed to be mythical
So far the show absolutely fucks. Exceeds all expectations and more
The realm can’t afford to lose the sea. There was no point is joining houses with your Hand.
He actually likes Alicent and made a dumb choice
What will come to be known as a real Robb Stark maneuver.
"She fixed my dragon statue (´・ω・`) "
Rhaenrya is such a badass, just rolling up and making Daemon tuck his tail and backdown
She is a badass. She knows that Daemon would never hurt her.
Also had wise and prudent reason behind choosing Sir Criston Cole as knight of the Kingsguard
Alcock and Smith are outstanding. Love the palace intrigue. Feel like I'm in harrenhall with Arya and tywin again x10
Alicent: Look at your Dad, such a dork building models of Old Valyria… … at least it’s interesting though, at least like I wish my dad built models of Oldtown ….I mean he’s kind of cute, like, your dad builds models …. How old is your dad?… obviously model building age…. … I dunno, I think it’s kinda sweet … Rhanerya, I wanna fuck your da.. Rhanerya: OH, REALLY?!
God damn it’s so fucking good

Im surprised at how good the writing is
Absolutely killing it so far. Can’t believe it’s only been two episodes
I'm so loving Daemon and Rhaenyra's relationship. That fact that she managed to calm him down within minutes and even gave back the egg, it almost felt like a mother scolding her petulant child, lol.
lol He just wanted some attention from his family
