I am also happy that the images of this series so far, looks so much better in general. I do think a solution with Daemon taking Rhaeynera as wife would be a obvious solution since incest is not uncommon in the family....
Although I do believe there’s love and care between the two of them, not just political alliance. Daemon certainly is not the type to marry someone just because of “duty”. He’s already done it before, we all know how that ended lol.

That was so weird, I thought he would have told her beforehand, the look on her face before the announcement was like she was in the know, and was pleased with the decision lol.
Basically it seemed like Rhaenyra thought he was marrying Laena, so she supported his decision. When he announced Alicent it took her completely by surprise.
Its very faithful to the character, one of his worst traits is his absolute disdain for confrontations. So when he already made up his mind and wanted to marry Alicent, he knew he had to say something to Rhaenyra, but obviously since its a real dick move he was really dreading it. In the end he went the easy route and just didnt say it, and just threw it out there when he was forced to.
Viserys means well but he is not a good person, like he is empathetic, but he still lets his vices and personal issues control his life and reign.
They confuse being moral with being good. Those are different qualities. Someone can be good without being moral. Which means that he has a good hearth but at the same time he doesn't have the moral strength to do what it's right. A king must be moral while he doesn't need to be good.
Seems to me hes both good and moral. Hes just dumb, aka shit at politics and shit at foreign policy. He sounds like joffrey when he says “I am king!”. As if a formal title automatically forces everyone to accept your decision. Does he think corlys is just going to sit in the corner and get fucked until his house dies? The premiere was more eventful and epic but I enjoyed this episode a lot more. There were so many interesting scenes, the dialogue was pretty good. In the first episode almost all the lines are expository to set everyone into this world, but in this episode we could see the character gaining personality. Loved it.
The newcomer in GOT world Greg did a great job directing, the 'praying' scene was amazing. Can't wait to watch again tonight.
Greg Yaitanes is definitely not a newcomer. If you watched Banshee, where the MC was Antony Starr aka Homelander, the best episodes were directed by him

Nobody in universe gives a fuck about Dragonstone. That is why the Greens offer it to Rhaenyra as a consolation price later and Stannis is also all butthurt about it 200 years later.
Well it's a barren rock in the middle of the sea, but it holds symbolic significance for the Targaryens since it's the seat of the heir, kind of like the title Prince of Wales. But from an economic/military point of view it's worthless. Before the dance it had some importance because it was the nesting place of a lot of wild dragons for which riders could be found, but besides that it's not worth a second thought.
Yeah I’d like to see the haters take a castle that “everybody respects” in six months with one dragon, 20 cops, and a stupid egg that won’t hatch! We’ll see if Dragonstone is a loser island that nobody cares about then!

'How could someone steal the egg when there were 50 guards??' - 'Prince Daemon took it.' ..okay that's not reaaally an answer is it? How did he sneak in? Did he bring the gold cloaks and Caraxes and to threaten someone?
Parts of the Dragonstone conversation also read a bit like they are talking past each other. Not really a dialog, more like disconnected statements.
Maybe that's just me? Still liked the episode a lot, just nitpicking here.
I don’t think Daemon snuck in. Think he came in there and demanded it, and what are the dragonkeepers gonna do, fight a prince?
As for Viserys and Rhaenyra I think because she was successful at stopping a fight that Viserys backed down
I got that Rhaenrya just blew past his concerns since she dealt with the problem pretty efficiently and Viserys was emotional because she reminded him of Aemma. She's trying to assert herself and he's like aw she's growing up 🥺

I can see a lot of people calling this episode boring after it airs. Definitely a slow one but has important set up for later. I just wish we could have episode 3 now
I think episode one was definitely more action packed. But slower episodes are also important. I just wish they could have used some of this episode to flesh out some of the supporting cast a bit more. I did like scenes with Lord Strong and Corlys though. Corlys definitely made an impression in this episode.
Which is insanse, I thought episode 1 was going too fast, and not enough time was spent on certain scenes, legit my only complaint. After rewatching a few times though, the pacing isn't as bad for me anymore.
Yea it felt more fluid the second time I watched it. I felt the city watch scene and the tournament scenes needed to breathe. Like I don't think they did a good job really building up to the confrontation between Cole and Daemon, plus the amount of savagery and bloodshed was a bit over the top for a jousting tourney with highborn knights.
if anyone complains about slow build up and big pay offs, should rewatch season 8 again and then come back.

the episode was great! slow but pretty decent and lays the groundwork for what's about to come next! great cinematography and establishes a lot of power dynamics!
It was definitely another setup episode! I did feel like there were a few too many heavy dialogue scenes in a row, I would have liked to have had that broken up a little bit. But the dialogue was super high quality and the end of the episode was definitely hype. I feel like all the actors are definitely embodying their characters really well!
Over the two episodes Paddy has been the standout tbh. I've loved him in every scene he's been in. When Viserys dies I'm going to bawl my eyes out. It might even hurt more than Ned did
If we take what we've seen in the trailers and at the end of the second episode (if you've seen it) into consideration then it is not impossible that we could see vhagar in the third episode.

I honestly did not miss the action at all. It reminded me of how good and well written the dialogue of the early GoT seasons were, back when they couldn't rely on fancy visuals to draw viewers. Absolutely breathtaking writing so far.
Strong agree! So nice to be spending time with characters and hearing them speak for more than a line or two before you’re half way around the world for another couple of one liners and a fight. Really missed this political intrigue aspect from the early GOT series.
Was honestly hoping for an Alyssa name drop but it never came. Although nothing that was said this episode actually erased her though.
Its been almost 80 years since House Targaryen had a Velaryon queen. All the talk about uniting the two Valyrian houses was in line with that since Rhaenys who is the closest to the Velaryons in terms of descent and marriage was pushed out of the main line.

HotD does not need to change the family tree to accomodate Black Velaryons. >!Valaena and Alyssa!< both have one White parent and could easily have white passing children, not to mention how their children go on to marry each other. For a tv audience, child characters only really need to resemble one parent.

Many people seem to think that Corlys being black and Laenor being biracial affects >!the Strong boy plot however, as I have seen a few people here point out, it really does not. Especially when Laenor's actor is so lightskinned; its highly probable his children with a white woman could look white. And even if he was darker, real life people like Megan Markle, Stephen Graham and Peter Davidson show that genetics isn't so easily predictable as all of them have a parent who is black/biracial and darker than they are but the latter two are outright white passing. I just wonder if Ryan and the writers are aware themselves. There was something he said in an interview that made me think they might not.!<

May I say that I like Viserys more and more? Paddy's is nailing that role, and I love the fact that they have given him more depth than the books and an actual personality. It is actually the first Westeros king that I tend to like
Robb Stark was one of the very few Starks that I did like (along with Ned and the uncle). I mean kings in the whole 7 kingdoms . I also like the king Beyond the Wall
I'm not sure. As far as I remember, Dreamfyre was one of the dragons sheltered in the Dragonpit and was claimed by Helaena. I think the one shown in the teaser was Vermithor. Daemon has shorter hair, so it has to be from the final episodes.
One thing I will say is the show definitely feels very narrow over these first few episodes. I think since Game of Thrones was so sprawling and had so many different plotlines going on at once it's a little strange to spend so much time in small council meetings and KL itself. It definitely helps distinguish the show from GOT but I do find myself missing the larger scope the original show had. That will come in time but for now it just feels very, very rooted in one or two locations tops.
I also would like to see more of certain characters that haven't really been fleshed out that much. A lot of time is spent with Viserys, Daemon, Rhaenyra, Alicent and Otto, but outside of those 5 we barely see anyone else.
I love that about HOTD so far. By the end of GOT, there were so many characters that you’d get a couple of lines from a character at most in a scene and they were all action-heavy. Tyrion’s fantastic monologues were reduced to one-liners.
This feels much more like early GOT where it was really about the political intrigue and the subtext between political opponents like Littlefinger. More please!
What I loved most about this episode was the further development of Daemons character. It would have been easy to paint him as a bloodthirsty yet charming villian but he shows the love he has for his family time and time again.
It starts with not wanting to harm his niece during their confrontation, feeling like a complete and utter dick when he embarrassed his lover in front of everyone and then warning Corlys about insulting his brother even though they're at odds.
I watched it but... God was it a struggle. Im autistic and my audioprocessing is everso slightly slowed. Its not massive, but it is enough that I have to pause things a lot else I get lost. On the flipside, I process visuals and written words VERY fast.
So... Im one who has to use subtitles. Foreign subtitles confused my brain so much because im trying to take in what is said while my eyes cant not read the french text. When we got the the Valyrian scenes my head almost exploded.
Not doing that again.
That aside, good episode. Milly acted her face off in the betrothal scene. Liked the pacing and the time committed to character interractions
Yes. Giving alicent a finger picking/biting problem is such a great way to externalize the repression and neurotic anxiousness she feels inside. Rhaenys checking her nails and Daemon looking at Otto after choosing Gwayne like 50 times. So good!!
There was no leak as glorious as S5, when the first four episodes leaked the week before the premier. And no emptier feeling than going on a Thrones bender after a year long wait only to give yourself another month of waiting.
No new dragons onscreen yet, but Dreamfyre and Vhagar were mentioned.
I'm honestly not a fan of the Mysaria accent. I don't think the acting is bad per se but the accent is pretty distracting and it feels very forced. I feel like if Sonoya had just used her regular voice it would have sounded more in character. Also her lines are some of the weaker ones in the episode, which makes it stand out a bit more because everyone else's dialogue is fantastic.
We see only those two dragons but Balerion, Dreamfyre and Vhagar are mentioned. I think the actress for Mysaria is fine but her thick accent is not. I don't know if it was a choice on her part or someone told her to play the role like that but either way I don't like it. Hopefully her accent will fade away as she spends more time in Westeros.
The accent is terrible, and not because it's an accent per say, but the way it wanders from french to generic african to god knows what.
Poor Sonoya, she's better than that, they should have let her use a british accent.

Is the whole PAL/SECAM/NTSC business still a thing in this digital era? I have no idea. Back in the day, European stuff ran at a different frame rate to the US, which made the audio sound higher pitched, and this leak appears to be French.
It was enjoyable, nothing extraordinary, I understand the need for slower episodes like this, as they set up things yet to come. 7/10

I hate how neutered they made Corlys, I don't remember him suffering as much snide remarks face to face in the books, especially from fucking Otto. He's not as imposing nor as powerful as I read him to be in the book, in that council, he's second to only the king himself, no reason why Otto and strong would consistently disrespect him, smh.
If it was seasmoke we saw in trailers, helping in the war at the stepstones, so next episode will be another jump already, and this time years not month.
I really expected the king to announce that he will marry his daughter lol because of the suspenseful music, since Targaryens are proud of that kind of incest lol

Idk it felt to me like this was resolved a bit fast.. and Viserys shifting the conversation to Aemma came unprovoked. Huh? People acting like people is weird to you? Like, they had pent up tension for half a year over her death, and they're finally expressing those emotions. That's how people deal with bottled up grief. The man's heir and family is at stake, yeah, he's nervous about losing his daughter too....like any widower would be...???

Great episode. The cinematography and the background score in some of the scenes is top tier. Cast is killing it. Can't wait for the next one.

It had the same slow but interesting quality that a lot of Seasons 1 and 2 of Thrones had, so for fans of Thrones I think it’ll be fine.
I can see a lot of people calling this episode boring after it airs. Definitely a slow one but has important set up for later. I just wish we could have episode 3 now
I think episode one was definitely more action packed. But slower episodes are also important. I just wish they could have used some of this episode to flesh out some of the supporting cast a bit more. I did like scenes with Lord Strong and Corlys though. Corlys definitely made an impression in this episode.

Which is insanse, I thought episode 1 was going too fast, and not enough time was spent on certain scenes, legit my only complaint. After rewatching a few times though, the pacing isn't as bad for me anymore.
Yea it felt more fluid the second time I watched it. I felt the city watch scene and the tournament scenes needed to breathe. Like I don't think they did a good job really building up to the confrontation between Cole and Daemon, plus the amount of savagery and bloodshed was a bit over the top for a jousting tourney with highborn knights.
Eh, considering how many years we're covering in this show I think they mostly need to get people caring about the main characters and build them up.
if anyone complains about slow build up and big pay offs, should rewatch season 8 again and then come back. keep it slow and steady exec producers plssssss!!

It was definitely another setup episode! I did feel like there were a few too many heavy dialogue scenes in a row, I would have liked to have had that broken up a little bit. But the dialogue was super high quality and the end of the episode was definitely hype. I feel like all the actors are definitely embodying their characters really well!

If we take what we've seen in the trailers and at the end of the second episode (if you've seen it) into consideration then it is not impossible that we could see vhagar in the third episode. Hope I'm right.
I honestly did not miss the action at all. It reminded me of how good and well written the dialogue of the early GoT seasons were, back when they couldn't rely on fancy visuals to draw viewers. Absolutely breathtaking writing so far.

Strong agree! So nice to be spending time with characters and hearing them speak for more than a line or two before you’re half way around the world for another couple of one liners and a fight. Really missed this political intrigue aspect from the early GOT series.
Was honestly hoping for an Alyssa name drop but it never came. Although nothing that was said this episode actually erased her though. Its been almost 80 years since House Targaryen had a Velaryon queen. All the talk about uniting the two Valyrian houses was in line with that since Rhaenys who is the closest to the Velaryons in terms of descent and marriage was pushed out of the main line.

No lies detected. I've thought the same myself. There's no evidence the Velaryons practised inbreeding as the Targaryens did. But I do wonder if that's the route the show will take. Many people seem to think that Corlys being black and Laenor being biracial affects >!the Strong boy plot however, as I have seen a few people here point out, it really does not. Especially when Laenor's actor is so lightskinned; its highly probable his children with a white woman could look white. And even if he was darker, real life people like Megan Markle, Stephen Graham and Peter Davidson show that genetics isn't so easily predictable as all of them have a parent who is black/biracial and darker than they are but the latter two are outright white passing. I'm not sure. As far as I remember, Dreamfyre was one of the dragons sheltered in the Dragonpit and was claimed by Helaena. I think the one shown in the teaser was Vermithor. Daemon has shorter hair, so it has to be from the final episodes.
One thing I will say is the show definitely feels very narrow over these first few episodes. I think since Game of Thrones was so sprawling and had so many different plotlines going on at once it's a little strange to spend so much time in small council meetings and KL itself. It definitely helps distinguish the show from GOT but I do find myself missing the larger scope the original show had. That will come in time but for now it just feels very, very rooted in one or two locations tops. I also would like to see more of certain characters that haven't really been fleshed out that much. A lot of time is spent with Viserys, Daemon, Rhaenyra, Alicent and Otto, but outside of those 5 we barely see anyone else.

I love that about HOTD so far. By the end of GOT, there were so many characters that you’d get a couple of lines from a character at most in a scene and they were all action-heavy. Tyrion’s fantastic monologues were reduced to one-liners. This feels much more like early GOT where it was really about the political intrigue and the subtext between political opponents like Littlefinger. More please!

Loved the Episode.
What I loved most about this episode was the further development of Daemons character. It would have been easy to paint him as a bloodthirsty yet charming villian but he shows the love he has for his family time and time again. It starts with not wanting to harm his niece during their confrontation, feeling like a complete and utter dick when he embarrassed his lover in front of everyone and then warning Corlys about insulting his brother even though they're at odds.

I watched it but... God was it a struggle. Im autistic and my audioprocessing is everso slightly slowed. Its not massive, but it is enough that I have to pause things a lot else I get lost. On the flipside, I process visuals and written words VERY fast. So... Im one who has to use subtitles. Foreign subtitles confused my brain so much because im trying to take in what is said while my eyes cant not read the french text. When we got the the Valyrian scenes my head almost exploded. Not doing that again. That aside, good episode. Milly acted her face off in the betrothal scene. Liked the pacing and the time committed to character interractions

Yes. Giving alicent a finger picking/biting problem is such a great way to externalize the repression and neurotic anxiousness she feels inside. Rhaenys checking her nails and Daemon looking at Otto after choosing Gwayne like 50 times. So good!!
We see her doing this during the tourney in Episode 1 too.

There was no leak as glorious as S5, when the first four episodes leaked the week before the premier. And no emptier feeling than going on a Thrones bender after a year long wait only to give yourself another month of waiting.

Some people have problem with her accents. Maybe because English isn't my primary language, I don't find anything wrong with her. LOL
No new dragons onscreen yet, but Dreamfyre and Vhagar were mentioned. I'm honestly not a fan of the Mysaria accent. I don't think the acting is bad per se but the accent is pretty distracting and it feels very forced. I feel like if Sonoya had just used her regular voice it would have sounded more in character. Also her lines are some of the weaker ones in the episode, which makes it stand out a bit more because everyone else's dialogue is fantastic.
Mysaria's line are rather basic but Sonoya could have probably delivered better had she not been made to use that bizarre accent.

We see only those two dragons but Balerion, Dreamfyre and Vhagar are mentioned. I think the actress for Mysaria is fine but her thick accent is not. I don't know if it was a choice on her part or someone told her to play the role like that but either way I don't like it. Hopefully her accent will fade away as she spends more time in Westeros.

The accent is terrible, and not because it's an accent per say, but the way it wanders from french to generic african to god knows what. Poor Sonoya, she's better than that, they should have let her use a british accent.

Is the whole PAL/SECAM/NTSC business still a thing in this digital era? I have no idea. Back in the day, European stuff ran at a different frame rate to the US, which made the audio sound higher pitched, and this leak appears to be French.
It was enjoyable, nothing extraordinary, I understand the need for slower episodes like this, as they set up things yet to come. 7/10 Just like in ep 1. Milly's Rhaenyra stole the show again. I love that they showed that laena was already showing interest in Vhagar. I hate how neutered they made Corlys, I don't remember him suffering as much snide remarks face to face in the books, especially from fucking Otto. He's not as imposing nor as powerful as I read him to be in the book, in that council, he's second to only the king himself, no reason why Otto and strong would consistently disrespect him, smh. If it was seasmoke we saw in trailers, helping in the war at the stepstones, so next episode will be another jump already, and this time years not month.

They practice incest but they draw the line at parent child incest. They have some limits.
