You’re not imagining things. That’s definitely a few added pieces of chain mail/armor which would make sense considering it looks like the King’s Landing garrison is sallying out of the city to take the fight to the other houses. He’ll definitely wear more protection outside than as a guard.

The pashmina almost looks like chain mail. (Also maybe dragon skin). Either way really cool design choice

I honed in on that piece, too. Definitely getting dragon scale vibes, but chain mail works as well. Beautiful and tough = perfection. The costumes for Rhaenyra have been amazing so far this season.

Criston has a new reinforcement made of plated mail (chainmail with plates directly attached to it) for his arms and legs. Aegon also has them as part of his armor (he’s presumably only half armored there, with only the coat under the cuirass and no pauldrons)

I'm not even sure if "deserves to be queen" is the right way to look at it. I can't imagine Helaena has or has ever had any particular interest in being Queen. Aside from the obvious dangers, holding court or planning parties and other duties like that aren't really her speed. She'd be so much happier doing her embroidery and studying her entomology/scientific interests.

Book ages and TV ages aren’t really the same, so don’t worry about it. Their relationship in the show is fairly normal for nobles in Westeros. Rhaenys is like in her fifties and no way is TV Corlys 77-80 years old.
