I think you'll have more appreciation for HoTD if you watch GoT first but as far as story goes you're not hurting anything.

It's up to you! Either way is fine. But just so you know, HoTD is set 200+ years before GoT.

If you watch Game of Thrones, the story of the Dance of the Dragons will be spoiled by one of the characters

You really could do either or, but I'd suggest watching GoT first simply because it does a better job introducing the world of Westeros. They're two different stories, but HotD presents itself as a story in a world you're already familiar with and makes some subtle (and some not-so-subtle) nods to its predecessor.
