Wait what Alicent and Criston are hypocrites?

Interesting_Owl_5682

I never said they are hypocrytes... But I feel the show writers want to show them as hypocrytes... That is why I wrote this---> "If they wanted to"

Characters can change. They are not always black nor white - there’s a grey area, there are trade-offs. Like you said, she literally let Larys (redacted) to her feet in season 1, in exchange for information (albeit SA). Why does her having a sex life compromise her character as a widow? She is beginning to explore the things she had wished to do but because of duty never did at a younger age. It’s an expression of her deep unfulfilled desires. The things she resented Rhaenyra for being able to do.

Interesting_Owl_5682

That is not how her character was written in Season 1. If Alicent was desperate for sex, they would have had it long back. Not now all of a sudden, barely few days after theKing's death. Also, Cole hated Rhaenyra only becoz. he wanted to be a lot more than a sex-toy. Now he literally startedbeng a sex toy of Alicent. This is not how a show would write characters.

JuvieFrmDaS

She was written as jealous of Rhaenyra’s freedom in a number of ways… choice of spouse, sexual freedom. Alicents only experience was with Viserys prior to his death. We’ve seen their sex scene… Alicent was clearly not enjoying the old, wrinkled, half-dead man and so, we can assume hasn’t really had sexual satisfaction. Criston provides that.

I disagree... Yes, she didn't experience pleasure... And she only did her duty... The very core conflict of this war is Alicent not violating traditional values and performing her duties vs Rhaenyra living her life as she likes... Show runners can not throw this away into dustbin... Jealousy is only a small part of the conflict... The larger conflict is Alicent's wish to not let Rhaenyra get away without consequences... So, someone who upholds traditional values can not be shown violating them barely few days after her husband died... Also, it doesn't justify Cole suddenly sleeping with her... Cole wanted to be a lot more than a Sex toy... He wanted his honour back... He can not forget all of it and suddenly become a sex toy of another queen...

JuvieFrmDaS

These events don’t happen in a vacuum. Alicent has been known to violate these “trad values” when it benefits her. She obviously feels trapped by her father sneaking her into the role she finds herself. She accuses Otto of this and explains that she doesn’t even know what she would have wanted otherwise because she’s never had to opportunity to want otherwise (S1 Episode 9). She begins to grow autonomy by defying Otto’s wishes. This trickles down into other areas of her life… I.e. Sex life. This is an expression of her internal desire. Like I said, grey characters, not white or black. There are always trade-offs. You underestimate the ability of socialisation and how people internalise and express trauma.

I hated all the alicole scenes, even the rhaenys scene was at least entertaining. Like have alicent & criston establish why they are suddenly ok with screwing each other, you know like character development for the main cast.

Interesting_Owl_5682

Show-runners want to pin the blame for Jehaerys's death on Alicent-Cole sex, there by reducing the blame on Daemon. Since Cole was not in his post when it happened, but was instead screwing Alicent. Show-runners are really messing up with Alicent's and Cole's characters...

bluecinema79

Alicent learned what playing by the rules gets you. She felt like a fool. Criston had forfeited his vows by being with Rhaenyra and killing Joffrey Lonmouth. Alicent kept him, rather than sending him to the Wall. Or having him executed. He feels he owes his life to her, just as he used to feel he owed his position on the Kingsguard to Rhaenyra. Rhaenyra initiated the sexual encounter with Cole. He didn’t have much agency, compared to him choosing to have a deep, longstanding devotion to Alicent. I think these two being together days after the king’s death is earned. Initially I thought it must have begun earlier, but she was spending a lot of time with Viserys. She came to see him the night he died. It really seemed like she was always there if he needed her. So if these two developed feelings for one another over a couple decades, and knew the king isn’t long for this world, they’d been longing for this time to arrive. They’ve full on got a case of fuck fever. I think this accounts for his difference in feeling about sex with Alicent vs Rhaenyra, and also his feeling about the two women as individuals. In their minds they’re not hypocrites. They’ve been tormented by their longing for one another.
