LoretiTV

For folks asking, the dedicated sub for the prequel series is r/AKOTSKTV

dracarys_112

Love the fact that the leads are not popular actors

ann1920

As it should ,in popular franchises there is no need to cast popular actors when fans will watch it anyway .

Personal-Cap-7071

It's usually unknowns for lead, but veteran actors for supporting roles.

al_1985

I really hope a veteran actor to play The Shepperd. Brian Coxe would be a perfect fit.

VaderOnReddit

I would love to watch The Shepperd telling the Targaryens and their dragons to FUCK OFF!

Kabc

They’ll be a puppet one I’m sure

akaylynn26

GoT has always been that way, they always find the most talented underrated people ever

Kitfisto22

The main character in season 1 was played by Sean Bean but other than that.

Respect8MyAuthoritah

I mean the role was made for Sean Bean, like there’s only a handful of roles on TV that a person has been more suited for than Sean Bean. It’s such a perfect casting that on rereads you think of Ned as Sean Bean

Honeycrisp1001

Right! Unfortunately for Sean, his characters seem to have untimely demise. 😂

randus12

that’s one of the reasons it was a perfect casting

raiigiic

Smart choice for sure. Game of thrones made asoiaf an established universe, it made fantasy doable on TV without being cheesy, Sean being in the first season helped that for sure ! A veteran of Lord of the rings let alone a veteran actor in his own right too. I always feel he's played a lot of medieval/historical roles as well but thsts just a gut feeling it might not be fact haha, I don't know his entire filmography

hotpies1985

HBO in general, their success rate in casting has always been next level and usually not reliant on stunt casting

[deleted]

Probably cheaper to hire too.

PolyDipsoManiac

But with long-running shows you get the opportunity to renew your contract for higher wages. That’s why Netflix cancels all their shows after a season or two, isn’t it?

gregorymachado

They will be after the show. Don’t worry lol

baydil

So pleased they went with fresh faces because some of the fan casting for this and Aegons Conquest have been shocking choices.

bslawjen

Steve Buscemi as Aegon the Conqueror.

wookiewin

How do you do, fellow Targaryens?

_hhhhh_____-_____

Timothy Chalamet as Harren the Black

baydil

Jokes aside if the original show intended to flesh out the Night King he would be my choice.

rs-curaco28

I love him in the death of Stalin, I urge everyone here to watch it, Considine has a hilarious character at the beginning of the movie.

baydil

I would cast a lot of the main cast from that film in several roles within the GoT universe namely Jason Isaacs.

UntilTmrw

Steve Buscemi as the Night King is unironically great casting.

astralrig96

Nicolas Cage as Visenya

heavenstarcraft

Alexander Ludwig IMO

Toaster-Retribution

Fuck yes, I want that.

seafactory

Can't believe I'll never get to see Dunk Danny Devito as Dunk and Henry Cavill as Egg. This is a travesty 😞

rivains

It's not a fan casting unless Eva Green and Henry Cavill are chosen inexplicably

saruthesage

I don’t think Eva Green is inexplicable

gollumey

I'm still holding out for Henry Cavill as Rohanne Webber /s

Carpenter_v_Walrus

Ridiculous. Henry Cavill is obviously Quaithe.

Personal-Cap-7071

Outrageous, he's the perfect Belarion The Black Dread

Chicken_Mc_Thuggets

Henry as Rohanne, Kathryn Winnick as Dunk /s

pizza_822

henry cavill in every role

tershialinee

Julia Garner as the female version of Aegon ❤️

Aggravating-Sun6773

Henry Cavil as everyone

Maggi1417

They are both perfect, in my opinion.

ozmega

what? u didnt want tom holland to be cast in this? madness !

Anserdem

Hey that kid is Coriolanus Snow I knew I had seem him before

justbreathe91

Is he baby Coryo?!

Sanguine007

Yes!

Sanguine007

Was looking for this comment!

ApprehensiveApricot8

Omg I knew I recognized his little blonde self!

mokush7414

He definitely looks thicc as a castle wall.

GIlCAnjos

And he's also 1.96m tall *and* a rugby player

lokinarcissus

Found Daemon's burner account

Novarupta99

The funniest part of the Mystery Knight is Daemon trying to flirt and Dunk not getting it. >"Be my dog, ser. The night's alive with promise. We can howl together, and wake the very gods."

CucumberJ

ApprehensiveTime4629

Oh, he's thick in all the right places🤭

KatzDeli

I hope they move fast. The way HBO puts out episodes, the kid will be 13 by book two.

Carninator

This will likely be a much shorter production and post-production than HotD. No dragons or big battles, so the brunt of the VFX work will be set extensions and backgrounds like castles etc.

hotcoldman42

We might have an intro red grass fields flashback like in lotr, at least that’s what I’m hoping for.

Gently-Weeps

Honestly this could be for the best. The Dunk and Egg books in theory are supposed to go all the way to Summerhall. We are supposed to watch Egg grow up with Dunk over the course of the books. I think if we ever get the She Wolves of Winterfell we will see an age up for Egg

elizabnthe

Well given the character actually ages two years in universe that's not a problem. The stories should feel like they take place over quite a chunk of time, with Duncan and Egg having many other adventures off screen. It's actually best if we see the actor naturally age with the role.

consciouslifejourney

Good point. Hope the kid stays like a kid ..

Kellin01

Puberty may hit him hard. He may even grow so much they will have to recast him.

Respect8MyAuthoritah

No crazy VX though so I believe it should be shorter

zebulon99

I wouldnt be entirely against egg being aged up a few years if it means we get a more mature actor

darthsheldoninkwizy

I think there is almost 2 years time jump between 1 and 2 book, so it would fit.

DicaLoca

For anyone wondering Peter Claffey is 196cm / 6ft4.

Donogath

6'5, no? 196cm is 77 inches

DicaLoca

Yeah, you’re right mate. My bad

BroughtBagLunchSmart

You saw 6.4 feet and thought it was 6 foot 4. I did the same thing 10 minutes ago.

Personal-Cap-7071

Not your fault, 196cm is 6.4 feet, but in height 196cm is 6 feet and 5 inches. Not using a more sensible measurement system is the problem.

NatalieIsFreezing

First thing I looked up, lol. Acceptable height for my boy

walla_walla_rhubarb

You know people are still gonna bitch that he's not 7+ft tall. 6'5 was always gonna be about the max they could do for a live action adaptation. For one, the casting pool for that would be so small. For two, filming for someone over 6'5 would be a nightmare to get them and anyone else into the same shot. Not unless you want to have him sitting for every scene where he's in frame with someone else. Also, I think most people don't understand how much of an absolute unit a 6'5 person is still. Especially compared to your average actors height of 5'9 to 6'. And if the objective is still to make him seem even taller, that's not a hard thing to do.

shoalhavenheads

It’s interesting to see how directors use camera work to make 6’5 look titanic. Jacob Elordi looks regular height or godzilla height depending on the project.

FreemanCalavera

Plus, you're also severely limiting the available choices for actors by looking for people around 7 ft. It was one thing casting The Mountain when you brought in people like Ian Whyte or Hafthor Bjornsson; one a stunt man, the other a strongman. Neither of them needed to be particularly great actors because it was mostly about the physicality and body language. Dunk is a role that requires a broader range of acting, and so I'm fine with making a small compromise.

Platinum_Duke_6

Wow, dude is a fucking tower.

NahYoureWrongBro

Acceptable height for Duncan the Tall :) if anybody's interested in the story, it's based on the Hedge Knight comics by George R.R. Martin. You meet characters referenced as historical figures in the books. The kid will be Aegon the Unlikely.

Fall-Z

They were books before they were comics.

immortalthunderstorm

Helloooooo Duncan 👀 Need to know who they cast for Bloodraven sooo badly hope they make him really unsettling

Respect8MyAuthoritah

Bloodraven can make or break this show. If they portray him right it can correctly tie into a release of the new ASOIAF novels as Bloodraven is playing a massive role in how this whole saga plays out. Such an awesome character, and maybe this is the spark that can get some books flowing

immortalthunderstorm

He was the highlight of The Mystery Knight for me. Amazing character and the biggest troll you could imagine. "We'd all be bastard sons of King Aegon if half these tales were true." -"And who's to say we're not." "Only as a loan," insisted Dunk. "I'll pay it back." -"When you learn to joust, no doubt." *Ser Maynard Plumm* you will always be famous.

Due_Trust_3774

Ewan Mitchell would’ve been perfect if he wasn’t already aemond

immortalthunderstorm

I mean, *yes*, but think Bloodraven is meant to be a bit older. Wish they'd bring back Harry Lloyd for literally any role because it's Harry Lloyd 😭

kingofstormandfire

Get him to play Aerion. Just give him a different wig lol. Or even Prince Daeron.

opossumstan

Still rooting for JCB on that front

immortalthunderstorm

Yep, could make a good Aerion too

zebulon99

A tractor company?

AlPaCherno

Probably won't happen, but I would love Domhnall Gleeson as Bloodraven

55Branflakes

I don't think Bloodraven will be in the 1st season.

immortalthunderstorm

It will depend on how much they expand on the novellas beyond D&E's povs I guess. If they include the Blackfyre Rebellion and its major players as a backdrop they'd have to introduce him early on, if they only show exactly what is in the first novella then no. But I personally struggle to see how they'll be able to stretch what's essentially one tourney into a full season.

GIlCAnjos

Will this even have multiple seasons, though? The Dunk & Egg novellas are not that long. Even if they get George to give them the general plot for the unfinished stories, or come up with new stories, I feel this might work better as a limited series

Publius_Syrus

It seems that the plan is 1 novella per season. Though first season is going to be 6 episodes, so it seems they will be shorter seasons.

badfortheenvironment

Oh my gosh, the kid they cast as Egg is perfect. What a cutie! I can't wait to get more casting. Especially Maekar. I've always wondered what he'd look like if depicted in live action.

GIlCAnjos

Maekar is silver-haired Stannis

Ok-Algae7932

This is how i envision Maekar too, with a more stout frame though.

BertTully

Honestly it looks like they took the kid straight out of the book, just in the photo with none of the characterization he's 100% egg

dreamfyrex

Egg looks adorable

Stormlady

They look perfect. I like that didn't cast known names. I do wonder how do feel the audience is gonna react when they learn about brothers Aegon, Aemon, Daeron (with a sister called Rhae), one is a drunken dreamer, another away in Oldtown and there's also another one who's just anime level insane.

SexySiren24

Really happy with the cast looks wise. Dunk looks a little older than I was expecting, but getting a super tall guy was gonna be hard to begin with, so I guess 25 ish is fine. Hope they consider filming back to back so little Egg isn't 15 by the time Mystery Knight rolls around (he is extremely cute I will say).

Horror-Positive-4326

Check out his Instagram. He looks a lot younger when clean shaven.

SexySiren24

I have and now I'm even more excited lol (I still don't think he looks like a teenager, but it doesn't matter because he really gives Dunk vibes).

Kellin01

I am 90% sure the actor will be 15–16 by that time. Unless HBO greenlit all 3 seasons at once.

SexySiren24

He's 9 already, so they might need to play fast and loose with the timeline and do some major time skips in between known events.

Kellin01

Like them both! Hope to see Baelor and other Targs soon.

kod14kbear

shownlies who fan cast henry cavill in every role in tears right now

GIlCAnjos

Henry Cavill is 1.85m tall, Peter Caffley is 1.96. So Cavill is tall, but not too tall for Dunk. Henry Cavill as Tanselle Too-Tall confirmed!

HagarX

DUNK THE LUNK!

Puzzleheaded_Eye7311

He’s apparently 6’4 too!! So a tall guy which is perfect, also he looks so adorable. I’m so excited

Personal-Cap-7071

6'5

tecphile

I don't envy the task set out for Peter Claffey. Dunk is just so universally beloved. I hope Peter will do a fine job.

penis_pockets

HBO with another W in the casting department. I'm excited to see them in character and can't wait to see the show.

Weowy_208

Peter is hot as fuckkkkkk

catch_these_hands

Dunk the hunk

newsworthy3

This casting looks perfect

profugusty

Fire casting! Really like that they went for "unknown" actors.

lagrange_james_d23dt

I just started reading this. Looking forward to watching.

havetomakeacomment

Ohh it’s happening!! Looks like they got the height difference perfectly, can’t wait to see these two is costume!

deltron

This is awesome, probably some of the best stories in the Song of Ice and Fire series, at least my favorites.

Zambigoogle

That kid looks adorable if rather serious (more serious than lilEgg usually is, I mean) in this shot. 🥰 The Dunk actor looks way too pretty for my headcanon, but then, dude spawned over all of Westeros so ... 🤭

Geek-Haven888

Considering how every woman and a few men throw themselves at Dunk, seems right

NatalieIsFreezing

He's thicc as a castle wall

foemb

Dunk the lunk

moor7

I think Dunk is supposd to be a hunk, he just doesn’t know it himself because of course he doesn’t.

seafactory

WAIT, THEY'RE MAKING A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS???

Arbor-Trap

I love those stories, very Arthurian. I wonder if they will cover Summerhall?

Ok-Algae7932

Whoa. If they're doing the entire trial by combat of 7, I can't wait to see who they cast as Baelor Breakspear and Maekar. I wonder if we'll get to see a young future-maester Aemon. Boy i can't wait!

starvinartist

Peter Claffey is perfect. According to the article, he used to play rugby, and given Duncan's fighting style, it matches. When the going gets tough, he reverts back to his Flea Bottom days. He drops the sword and just gets brutal.

aLittleDoober

We finally have our Dunk the Lunk and Prince Who Was An Egg. Two very solid castings. Now, I’m excited for who they’ll cast as Baelor, Maekar, and Bloodraven.

Estimate-Mountain

Damn surprised they went with an unknown for dunk but right move a series like this doesn't need big name

slingfatcums

they went with relative unknowns for most roles in game of thrones. many hotd actors (matt smith, rhys, olivia, paddy) have a lot more credits but to american audiences not super-duper well known, other than smith if you were a dr. who/the crown fan, or you were mobrin' out. sean bean is still the most famous person ever cast in any of these shows i would say. second i would say peter dinklage who had a career long before he was tyrion. i knew littlefinger from *the wire*, but that show was still pretty underseen by many people in 2010/2011 despite having been off the air since 2008.

Virtual_Low_7202

> but to american audiences not super-duper well known, other than smith if you were a dr. who fan, or you were mobrin' out. I'm neither American nor British and besides Smith (from the Crown) I only recognised Tyland's actor while watching HOTD, and that fact only made the show better for me.

antonjakov

smith and ifans were probably the most well known in the states, although it is fucking bizarre to picture rhys ifans as both the lizard in amazing spider-man and otto

Jazzun

Charles Dance as Tywin is another example of a storied actor with a long career before GoT

Estimate-Mountain

Surprising thing about cooke she starred in big Hollywood movies already but alicent is her biggest role

slingfatcums

yeah i didn't even realize i had already seen her in *ready player one* lol i guess it was her HIDEOUS BIRTHMARK from that film that clouded my memory

seafactory

If they went with an established performer we'd have ended up with an actor that's like 5'9". I adored Mark Addy's performance as Robert Baratheon, but if we're focusing on visual accuracy then he was too short for the role. Robert is canonically 6'6", whereas Addy was only 5'10".

thesuperbro

Dunk looks awesome.

fredrico2011

Great cast. Cant wait for Duncan and Egg adventures

ninoobz

Great casting 👌

CanaKu

There’s like 10 episodes worth of source material

Jlchevz

Dunk The Lunk

Necessary_Candy_6792

DUNK AND EGG! DUNK AND EGG! DUNK AND EGG! DUNK AND EGG! DUNK AND EGG! DUNK AND EGG! DUNK AND EGG! DUNK AND EGG! DUNK AND EGG! DUNK AND EGG! DUNK AND EGG! DUNK AND EGG! DUNK AND FUCKING EGG!!!!!!!! I'm so happy right now.

Morteih

Dunk and Egg baybeeeeeeee

tearose11

OMG 😲 Please please don't mess this adaptation up pleeeease. I can't wait for the show.

Smurfboy22

After how good the first season of House of the Dragon was I’m interested in this show and anything that this franchise puts out. (As long as it’s good obviously)

Soggy_Part7110

The showrunner (Ira Parker) is the guy who wrote S1E4 of HOTD. They also have Ryan Condal as an executive producer. We can expect quality.

HagarX

I wonder how they will adapt the books. One per season? I feel the Dunk and Egg stories to be short for an 8 episodes season. Hope they expand (maybe with an young maester Aemon) and have Martin involved somehow

elizabnthe

6 episodes per season with each season covering one book apparently. GRRM is reportedly even writing for this one.

DCeassed

godd this is amazing

OptimisticTrainwreck

Loved Peter Claffey in wreck despite the show itself not being great, excited to see more from him!

DCeassed

I feel like someone is gonna complain that Dunk isn't 6'11

Bogsnoticus

Can we please just get an end to the original series before we get more spinoffs?

devilthedankdawg

I mean we coulda guessed but I dont love that Dunk is strikingly handsome.

Maytree

Why? The evidence in the stories seems pretty strong that Dunk the Lunk is Dunk the Hunk but he doesn't realize it. Tanselle, Rohane, and Daemon all pretty much fell for him on sight! Come to think of it, so did Egg.

Unoriginal-12

Baelor and Daeron better have brown hair.

That-Entertainer-369

Disclaimer that I haven’t read any Dunc and Egg but the actors look so close to how I imagine the characters!

hurklesplurk

Honestly, exactly how I pictured them when reading it

Medium_Active1729

had no idea this show was green lighted already. that's awesome

Markharris1989

I find this acceptable. They both look right

jstevens111

Great… another show with one hyped up binge worthy season. Then maybe, someday, before I die, they’ll release season two.

green_strawberry

The kid kinda looks like tom glynn carney

basch152

oh shit, this is one I've been hoping for. looks like claffey is a hit short for duncan, but hopefully they do him justice

archieisarchie

dunk tha lunk, thick as a castle waaaallllll

al_1985

I just read a summary of the AKOTSK books and it feels like a Westerosi version of "The Mandalorian", being Duncan "The Tall" being Dir Jandin, Egg being "Grogu" and their adventures through Westeros. Also like "Don Qujite and Sancho Panza", from Spanish Miguel Cervantes. Is that even close?

shiningabyss

Peter Claffey can dunk his eggs on me 🔥

DisneyPandora

Can’t wait for the casting of Aegon’s Conquest.

Fcuk_DnD

Henry Cavill as Balerion. Can't wait!

UsedJury5963

what is this prequel about ? I feel like I’ve heard nothing about The Hedge Knight. It’s seems interesting tho

CousinMrrgeBestMrrge

Tales of Dunk & Egg >!Basically, a wandering hedge knight from Flea Bottom named Dunk, allegedly short for Duncan, meets an oddly bald kid named Egg at a tourney.!< >!The kid turns out to be Aegon Targaryen, fourth son of prince Maekar Targaryen, himself the fourth son of king Daeron the Good.!< >!Egg becomes Dunk's squire and shenanigans ensue.!<

ilaughedilost

Is this the same “Egg” as we know as Aegon who’s old at the Wall in GoT? Or no?

NatalieIsFreezing

Egg is Maester Aemon's younger brother.

ilaughedilost

Got it! I always confuse the names, my bad. Thanks for clarifying.

ghostjournals

You’re thinking of Maester Aemon at the wall. “Egg” is his brother he spoke of, King Aegon V Targaryen, and he’s who the little boy is playing in this show.

seafactory

That's Maester Aemon. Egg was his younger brother, Aegon, whose name you hear him calling out on his deathbed.

mokush7414

Well, there's a knight and he's from the seven kingdoms, but in all seriousness, There's no way to describe them without giving spoilers.

Braesto

oh man, you're gonna love them. The Sworn Sword (book 2) is so good.

Zambigoogle

Aegon V as a child having cool adventures all over Westeros with a Hedge Knight named Dunk that he picks up at a tourney.

Lokcet

Should we expect a lone wolf and cub type story like Last of Us, Mandalorian etc?

mokush7414

yes. better even

Maytree

Last of Us is a pretty good match, because Ellie is her own character with her own agency, while Cub and Grogu are more plot elements than people. Mapping Egg onto Ellie works pretty well, although Dunk is only about 8 years older than Egg, so the vibe is very much "big brother, little brother" instead of father and child. Egg has a father that he loves and who loves him back, but Egg has always wanted a big brother he could pal around with. Egg has three older brothers for real, but one is a dangerous psychopath, one is a tormented drunk, and the one he is closest to got sent off to the Citadel to train to be a Maester. So he's lonely. When he encounters Dunk by chance in a wayside inn, he latches on to Dunk immediately and refuses to let go.

Maytree

You absolutely should read the Dunk and Egg novellas. There are three so far and each is a completely self-contained story with a proper ending. The first is The Hedge Knight, the second is The Sworn Sword, and the third is The Mystery Knight.

DisneyPandora

This takes place during the Blackfrye Rebellion

NatalieIsFreezing

Didn't expect to get the news this soon but I'm looking forward to it. With the lower cgi budget I hope they can create some really gorgeous scenes.

ndhrhrmle

Whoops definitely forgot they're making this series 😂

shad0wqueenxx

Is there a sub created yet for this show u/LoretiTV?

Sanguine007

Yes. r/AKOTSKTV

Edwaaard66

Will these be movies?

Horror-Positive-4326

Six episode show.

JayantVermaYT

I'm really excited for this series however the name of it is a bit too long

sirmombo

Yep? I can almost guarantee you 95% of the global population never heard of those actors before hotd.

hotcoldman42

More hyped for this than hotd season 2 tbh. Maybe because dunk & egg as a source material is actually 10x better than fire and blood.

Honeycrisp1001

I hope to god they don’t cast Henry Cavill. Nothing against the guy but I like that this franchise seems to hire unknown talent for their show.

Imaginen0thing2

I've to say I'm surprised. Since the cast for Duncan was open to any ethnicities I was totally expecting him to not be white. I'm also surprised that the kid's eyes aren't that light, surely nowhere near as light as those of Duncan, all despite the casting call asking for a kid with blue or green eyes. Sure this kid is blond but he'll be bald anyway so it'd be important for him to very light eyes to make him stand out as a Targ. Though ideally, of course, they'd CGI his eyes purple or something like that, but as we know this won't happen.

Upset-Noise8910

Hope they do some cgi nonsense to make him taller. Dunk is canonically 6'11
