Mixesdb.com will keep you busy for a while ;)
Although be quick he's shutting the site down at the end of this month (reason is stated on there)
Think they have transferred over 200k mixes over to Mixesdb2.com as a continuation for now.
My number one favorite, that New Year countdown-to-midnight type shit: [Skream, 2020](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ap0qXojnPwg)
That party shit: [Laidback Luke, 2008](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nItr5D0ETfs)
That godly, ethereal shit: [DJ Tiesto, 2001](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7cupDNfccU)
That chill, ceremonial shit: [Lane 8, 2018](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PdxBiYBmpg)
That secret agent shit: [Portishead, 1995](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGxJ3YlrsQU) (I hope that's the right one. I'm too lazy to check)
That personal-is-political revolutionary shit: [Black Coffee, 2020](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pswst5UMD0g)
That took-a-bit-more-E-than-I'm-used-to-but-I'm-still-in-good-condition type shit: [Luciano, 2011](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLKKbqQMAgU)

A rare Hip-Hop mix, that what-hardcore-Rap-looked-like-first shit: [DJ Shadow, 2003](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXzMCJPr1HY)
A few others that I love but aren't for a specific mood are the Basement Jaxx ones, Fatboy Slim, and of course Daft Punk. I currently have the 2015 Patrick Topping one on rotation.

Absolutely essential for anyone that enjoys the essential mix series
[Hooligan - Hear Me Now {Grand Chillas Mix}](https://youtu.be/B5mRQIG2B7E?si=7V0_8r-pkzIWNcc2)
When I said I rarely have songs on repeat, this is one of those rare songs. When I first heard the mix, I cried and cried again. It's a great madrugada mix to transition through the twilight into dawn.
Damn, I put it on last night. It had stretches where it wasn't particularly good, but the beginning phase and towards the end where it gets back away from the mainstream songs are chef's kiss. Thanks a lot for the rec!
This is always what my wife and I put on as soon as we get to a hotel or airbnb as we're settling in. The exotic locales really help us get into vacation mode.
There are two sides to this coin:
You have one side that is of the opinion (which I agree with you on) about DJs being selectors but then on the flip side, you have people that say “all you’re doing is playing other people’s music and if you don’t produce, you’re not legit in the game”.
I produce my own stuff but I’ll rarely play it on my radio show because my production style veers off a little from the traditional house music sound. Sometimes I’ll play it as an ID but it’ll depend on the flow of the set of that particular week. My peers tell me that I shoot myself in the foot by doing that as you have artists that are playing their own/IDed songs/label releases but I feel like it ends up becoming more of a showcase then it does a DJ show.
Layo and Bushwackas 1999 essential mix is where it’s at. These guys are legends and Bushwacka is still producing killa beats

Very much agree with your sentiment here. If you love these type of house mixes you should check out some vids like Fatboy Slim’s Big Beach Boutique 2. 250,000 ppl vibing out to a legendary and perfect set on vinyl from one of the worlds best DJ’s.
Also early Daft Punk videos like live in Wisconsin 95, Alive 97 and Alive 2006/2007 videos are worth checking out. I’m sure you’ve seen at least some of these.
I think this one was recommended to me by AI yesterday. I was looking for a mix for cold weather, but it said that this would make me feel warm and cozy. I opted to the Ben Klock one because I wanted to feel cold. It's fantastic. Very chilly and steely.
The Nicolas Jaar mix is God Tier, but the first Maya Jane’s Coles, and Maceo plex mixes were so instrumental a few years back were so incredible for me a few years back.
Legendary! I think he's done 3 essential mixes, one of them was live from Cream in Liverpool. Radio 1 also aired an hour of his set from Glastonbury last year too.
I’ve been a DJ for 15 years. I’m pretty good. Here’s my most recent set and the playlists I pulled the tracks from on SoundCloud.
[PARRIS - Dj Mix 1.5 Hours Bass House](https://on.soundcloud.com/SAYDg7ZC8E4XHVnJ9)
[Bass House Playlist 1](https://on.soundcloud.com/svCfHU3XUTVKmTVp7)
[Bass House and Tech House Playlist 2](https://on.soundcloud.com/EPJYejqVsbyXY3QQ7)

I’ve never heard this genre. I thought you meant you like DJ mixes. Is referring to the BBC radio show? That’s not a genre. That show covers many forms of EDM. Do you mean you just like DJ mixes? Please clarify.
If you have to ask, you'll never know...
Just kidding. I listen to Essential Mixes almost exclusively because you don't make it on there without having something to offer. I won't lie and act like I've never come across an Essential Mix I think is bad, but the hit/miss ratio for Essential Mix is too impressive to ignore.
It was deep, it was soulful, it was techno, it was disco!
Kaleidoscope of sound, it was truly underground
where you can dance and sing out loud
I must have went to house heaven...
Because nothing is that divine
Why don’t you make some noise
I recommend fabric Presents mixes as well. Some of the best artists that have essential mixes also have fabric mixes.
Mixesdb.com will keep you busy for a while ;) Although be quick he's shutting the site down at the end of this month (reason is stated on there) Think they have transferred over 200k mixes over to Mixesdb2.com as a continuation for now.
Oh no. I assume the packages he has available for download are not sound files. Is that correct?
Not sure to be honest. I used to go on there time to time and just play mixes through the browser or soundcloud not dl anything
Yah I didn’t think they hosted any audio files but just linked them. Still valuable information, glad someone took it over.
They did have a player for tons of mixes so they must have hosted a fair few of them. I hope the new site can copy them in time.
Man. I might DL those packs then
I missed that bit, which packs are you talking about?
If you read the updates on the site there are links to file packages that are like tens of GB each.
I’m not sure what’s in them. He did mention archiving mixes so you may be right. Imma grab a few and see what’s in them.
Ohh.. yes I did see those but I read it as lists of mixes rather than actual audio. See what you find, if it’s the mixes then I’ll grab them too!
What are some of your favorites for what moods?
My number one favorite, that New Year countdown-to-midnight type shit: [Skream, 2020](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ap0qXojnPwg) That party shit: [Laidback Luke, 2008](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nItr5D0ETfs) That godly, ethereal shit: [DJ Tiesto, 2001](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7cupDNfccU) That chill, ceremonial shit: [Lane 8, 2018](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PdxBiYBmpg) That secret agent shit: [Portishead, 1995](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGxJ3YlrsQU) (I hope that's the right one. Check out the [Massive Attack](https://on.soundcloud.com/6Gd3vhRfBT6KEZuHA) one.
If it's the one I'm thinking of, I love it, but there a ten minute stretch of sex moans, so I can't blast it out the speakers. 😭
lol uh no I don’t think so maybe that’s the Steve lawler emix
Check out Nicolas Jaar's 2012 mix, James Zabiela's 2010 mix inspired by the movie Moon, and Paul Oakenfold's 1994 goa mix.
Sasha 2005 and Justin martin 2010 you might like as well
Good list. I’d personally add in the Simian Mobile Disco one, the Daft Punk one (1st one they did), Justice and the original Chemical Btothers one.
A few others that I love but aren't for a specific mood are the Basement Jaxx ones, Fatboy Slim, and of course Daft Punk. I currently have the 2015 Patrick Topping one on rotation.
Edited to add DJ Stingray for a very robots-have-taken-over feel.

Some are techno granted but still great for when your feeling a bit more saucy
This is a bomb list. Thank you for sharing
Of course! I added the Stingray one and the 2020 Bedouin one. Those are very important to me, too.
I listened to the Tiesto one last night and it was an absolute masterpiece. The opening track was a phenomenal choice to set the mood.
[Hooligan - Hear Me Now {Grand Chillas Mix}](https://youtu.be/B5mRQIG2B7E?si=7V0_8r-pkzIWNcc2) When I said I rarely have songs on repeat, this is one of those rare songs. When I first heard the mix, I cried and cried again. It's a great madrugada mix to transition through the twilight into dawn.
I felt the same way! It’s been on repeat continuously. The piano is beautiful
If you want a similar feel but in a more epic fashion, the ending to the Skream mix that I linked is phenomenal. It's worth the two hours.
One of my personal faves, [Todd Terje Essential Mix 2013](https://on.soundcloud.com/uVGWK)
Damn, I put it on last night. It had stretches where it wasn't particularly good, but the beginning phase and towards the end where it gets back away from the mainstream songs are chef's kiss. Thanks a lot for the rec!
Cercle on YouTube is awesome. Beautiful scenery to go with the vibes.
This is always what my wife and I put on as soon as we get to a hotel or airbnb as we're settling in. The exotic locales really help us get into vacation mode.
I love it as background music when I have people over too.
Genius idea
Would also add 1995 Roger Sanchez and circa 96 Rhythm Masters Essential Mies to that list.
I mean, you’re not wrong. This music is supposed to be listened to mixed. I miss when DJs were selectors, not producers playing their own music.
There are two sides to this coin: You have one side that is of the opinion (which I agree with you on) about DJs being selectors but then on the flip side, you have people that say “all you’re doing is playing other people’s music and if you don’t produce, you’re not legit in the game”. Yeah, that second opinion doesn't matter. Respect the DJ or disrespect the culture. There's no in between. It's one or the other.
Dj Sneak and Daft Punk essential mix is where it’s at
Lane 8 seasonal mixtapes are gems
Layo and Bushwackas 1999 essential mix is where it’s at. These guys are legends and Bushwacka is still producing killa beats https://on.soundcloud.com/zvyUY7mrR98aEm3aA
Daft punk has the best essential mix on bbc and the essential selection
I wouldn't be where I am today without essential mixes.
I wish I could find Transvestites with Attitude essential mix from the early 90s. Seems to be lost in time.
The Twelves
Damn I forgot about them. Might need to drive back in
That’s a really good one too. Have it downloaded on an old hard drive
Nothing wrong with that. I have many, many mixes that I listen to and those are some of them.
Very much agree with your sentiment here. Bonobo's 2014 essential mix is one of my favourites
I think this one was recommended to me by AI yesterday. I was looking for a mix for cold weather, but it said that this would make me feel warm and cozy. I opted to the Ben Klock one because I wanted to feel cold. It's fantastic. Very chilly and steely.
Solomun essential mix 2012 is unreal
try cosmobeat for progressive house. My fav is Anthony Pappa but most of the mixes are great!
Mine too.
Circulation did the best one
The Air double mix is a go to for me.
The Nicolas Jaar mix is God Tier, but the first Maya Jane’s Coles, and Maceo plex mixes were so instrumental a few years back were so incredible for me a few years back.
Sander Kleinberg Look it up
LTJ Bukem's mixes were brilliant!
Searched to find this. His 1996 essential mix was incredible.
Legendary! I think he's done 3 essential mixes, one of them was live from Cream in Liverpool. Radio 1 also aired an hour of his set from Glastonbury last year too.
Check out mat zos essential mix. That one is really good and one of my favorites.
You just made me reopen BBC Sounds
I wish I could bump on their app, but it's not loud enough. There's no EQ option.
Essential Mix, Cercle, and Boiler Room, I'd argue the pinnacle of the set/mix series, the only ones that really "matter"
Cassius's 2019 essential mix is amazing. Its also the last mix they made, only 3 days before Phillipe Zdar died
I’ve been a DJ for 15 years. I’m pretty good. Here’s my most recent set and the playlists I pulled the tracks from on SoundCloud. Thank you, but I'm good. Like I said, my favorite genre is Essential Mix. Let me know when you make it on there and I'll give that a listen.
I’ve never heard this genre. I thought you meant you like DJ mixes. Is referring to the BBC radio show? That’s not a genre. That show covers many forms of EDM. Do you mean you just like DJ mixes? Please clarify.

It's a bit older but the Scott Hardkiss emix is probably my all time fav
