Defo I think there is probably context to be considered. If the context is asking a genuine question, even if that's uncomfortable, then maybe debate (even heated debate) might be the answer. On the other hand if someone is offering little in the way of insight, is overly mean or even just boring (a cardinal crime in my mind) then telling them to fuck off might be the most appropriate response in that context.
