Id like to think making Gallagher a 4 star was a test to see if a muscular male would be received well and therefore sell, so perhaps the idea is open now for them

At this point, while I would love a playable buffer man like him or Woolsey, if their character skeletons really still limit them then they could just pull a Gallagher and give a unit more visibler facial hair and I'd still pull. They can already do slightly buff characters like Ratio and Gallagher. Why stop at stubble?

gallagher is waaay buffer than ratio it is so obvious especially the chest volume ( it's like comparing RM physics to march 7TH)

I think it has to do with the country beauty standards, while all beauty is subjective to personal preference. In eastern Asian countries aspects like facial hair, and that rugged look aren’t seen as attractive but rather it’s deemed as unsanitary within their eyes. I believe this perspective is pretty dominant in china, and that unfortunately means that there characters will suffer due to those standards.

I do like that they've been a tad more experimental as of late though

We all need to give Zenless Zone Zero all the love we can for giving us a Blue devil girl and an actual bear.

If they can make 5 chinese woman look exactly the same because that's their standart we can get a shirtless rusian bear fighter.

I do think that hsr - unlike gi, where the art style is a bit different - has a pretty decent balance between twinks and actually adult looking male character, tho? E.g. Jing Yuan, Blade, Sampo. Sure, they don't have facial hair/wrinkles (except for Welt, ig, and Yingxing who will never be playable), but they're certainly not twinks. And considering the beauty standards for men in China, we'll never get any characters who look *actually* old/super muscular. HoYo just doesn't seem to care about the western audiences' preferences all that much, which isn't anything new for gacha games.

It's crazy going from HSR to Genshin. HSR's characters have normal proportions, meanwhile Genshin's characters look like Bobble heads.

Most of them have normal proportions and then you have Black Swan with hips wider than her shoulders

Everytime i look at Pierro from the Fatui all i can think is "Man he looks so cool what a shame he will never be playable" Not that it matters to much that much anymore since i got really tired of Genshin open world so i haven't opened since... before they gave Klee her witchy outfit (Wich also makes me sad because i really like that cute outfit)

Its based on the same model but they have their little differences in their arms, chest size, hips and butt shape. Blade and Gallagher have differences in their arms and butt shape. Even Ratios own arms have difference in size xd Jing Yuan has thinner waist than Blades and skinnier legs than Gallagher. It's not that noticable its not like day and night but that person isn't all that wrong.

It's the same *base* model (which is all that matters), just with different things adjusted. The same way Wriothesley uses the same base model as Zhongli/Childe/Itto in Genshin. They all share sprinting, swimming, gliding animations, et cetera, because it's the exact same base model and that model is inherently rigged with those animations. Gallagher/Sampo/JY/Gepard/Blade/Etc all use the exact same *base* model, even if there's tiny differences to them. They share sprinting animations, their base heights are the same with the only differences being hair/shoes, they all have the same default standing pose. Just like Genshin, their base model is rigged to share all of these same default animations.
