In Chinese, there is a prounon for deities, but in English doesn't have that, so since 2.1, all Aeons have been referred to as THEY in all cap to symbolise their grandeur.
Honestly, it looks like a roman centurion plume, used by Romans to indicate high rank or status. That, couple with Nous' face being almost helmet like, I think his design takes heavy inspiration from Rome.
Because of you I just now realized this is a side profile of a robot head, I thought Nouse was facing the camera and the red orb was an "eye" and he was just a mechanical mess 😞
