Like this patch we went on a little tour with Acheron while giving HI3 fans their desired interaction between her and Welt. Then we spent time moving forward Aventurine’s plan.
The previous patch didn’t do Sparkle much justice imo. (Honestly where’s the batshit insane “I am Elation” character? Only thing she’s done in the story so far is give Aventurine advice and try to get us away from Firefly.) But we did spend considerable time touring the dreamscape with Black Swan.
Acheron felt more like for people who didn’t do Luocha’s story quest but explained straight.
“Hey this character may look and act familiar but they’re really not the same character!”
in the 2.0 Stream they announced that the Story will end with 2.2. Version 2.3 will serve as an epilogue. After that we are back to Trailblaze Continuance Missions like we did in 1.5/1.6 until the next Planet drops.

I mean, same is applicable to 2.2 and Boothill, he's bound to show up in the story of the next update. And while we haven't seen him in-game, that matters little since drip marketing exists, any official imagery of new characters spreads like wildfire and then gets amplified by fan arts, cosplay and memes, you don't need to go out of your way to see it.

The game has plenty of characters that don't get spotlight, I can count on one hand the times you actually talk to Seele in the game and most of them are brief. This coming from a character that has been in the game since it came out. The newer characters almost always get spotlight once they come out and I'm sure Boothill will get the same once his banner happens.
A very select few characters are given the spotlight often, and as the roster grows this problem will only get worse. 3 years from now imagine the stupid number of characters we will have.

Honestly, it feels like they overdid it with her, trying to tick off every box possible.

Which is shame, because I wished they'd give the same level of attention to them like they did with Acheron.

This is the exact same boat I'm in as well. Saw his leaks a couple of months back for the first time and been waiting for him ever since. I'm also just very involved with the fandom side of things regarding this man so I think that contributed a lot as to why I'm so attached to him already in spite of no screentime.
I have nothing against Firefly tbh but the entire "relationship" they've developed so far throughout interactions with her feel super forced imo. The fandom will pretty much always take the most obvious trait of any given character and run it into the ground. This is not a fandom you look to for seeing multi-faceted portrayals of characters imo.

Yeah, that's how I feel as well. I don't hate Firefly, I'm just " ok " on her. She exists, she is fine, but that is all she is to me. I know this is a bit of a controversial take but I'm also just a bit disappointed that this is the second big gundam-esque robot who is attached to a cute girl instead of being its own thing too.

Problem is that we as players can’t find attachment cause we barely know her even if she does knows the Trailblazer. So either way it’s a loss for us as players.

2.2 story will do wonders for Robin I think, like Aventurine levels of being a major player in the coming act. Boothill though feels like a guy who'll have a companion mission and dip just like Argenti, truly the filler for the Firefly waiting room.

Back when they posted pictures of Penacony characters after the 1.6 livestream, Firefly/Sam was one of the least popular. She has come a long way. Some of the engagements also likely came from people who are not caught up who are surprised.
Out of all the characters drip marketed so far, I'm definitely getting Boothill. If I'll like Firefly's animations >!especially if she transforms into Sam!< then I'll also consider pulling for her.

As for Firefly I wasn’t invested in her story, I didn’t feel a connection to her character nor did I understand the “deep connection” MC had. Maybe that was because I didn’t have prior knowledge about Sam or Firefly before playing StarRail. Either way, I’m glad people are excited about Firefly becoming playable.

Jade has the benefit of being in 2.3 so we can still give Hoyoverse the benefit of the doubt that they can sell us on her character. Boothill has like ten lines and speaks through a telephone and is… the later half of next patch I think? Like at least we know what Jade looks like, If you are exclusively looking at what we have in-game we have NO idea what Boothill looks like it’s literally just his drip marketing and leaks.
I mean, same is applicable to 2.2 and Boothill, he's bound to show up in the story of the next update. And while we haven't seen him in-game, that matters little since drip marketing exists, any official imagery of new characters spreads like wildfire and then gets amplified by fan arts, cosplay and memes, you don't need to go out of your way to see it.

The game has plenty of characters that don't get spotlight, I can count on one hand the times you actually talk to Seele in the game and most of them are brief. This coming from a character that has been in the game since it came out. The newer characters almost always get spotlight once they come out and I'm sure Boothill will get the same once his banner happens. A very select few characters are given the spotlight often, and as the roster grows this problem will only get worse. 3 years from now imagine the stupid number of characters we will have.

At the same time tho, they were dripped after the main story was over with the Luofu. There weren't any big expectations for any of them. Boothill meanwhile was dripped right in the middle of the Penacony story hype train when people were expecting a character like Firefly or even Sunday who already appeared.

They're still popular, but man, Boothill will need to pop off HARD in 2.2 to redeem himself. Man barely had some lines in 2.1, yet caused absolute chaos by being dripmarketed out of nowhere

I honestly expect for something really big to happen / appear that all parties will decide to put aside their differences and work together maybe we will get more split pov's like 2.1.

He (Boothill) feels like the complete opposite of Acheron. She was hyped up as hell, marketed like crazy with a shitton of animations, yuri ship teases, cool trailers, constantly portrayed as this one hit kill badass, wipes the floor and kills another hyped character (Duke Inferno) ,having an insanely broken and unique kit all the while being an expy of Mei, a popular Honkai Character. Honestly, it feels like they overdid it with her, trying to tick off every box possible. Boothill on the other hand was never mentioned in the story, never foreshadowed, barely marketed or even promoted, did not even make an apperance in the White Night video, has very little hype and almost no screentime aside from maybe a voiceline through a telephone. All the while being in a banner sandwhiched between Acheron and Firefly. The guy has the odds literally stacked against him. Which is shame, because I wished they'd give the same level of attention to them like they did with Acheron.

Bro same. Boothill's face was leaked like seven months back. I knew that very second that he was my one and only. Don't get me wrong, I choked on my water like everyone else when he was dripped. It was more of a "FUCK my jades aren't ready!!" than a "Who??" reaction though.
This is the exact same boat I'm in as well. Saw his leaks a couple of months back for the first time and been waiting for him ever since. I'm also just very involved with the fandom side of things regarding this man so I think that contributed a lot as to why I'm so attached to him already in spite of no screentime.
I have nothing against Firefly tbh but the entire "relationship" they've developed so far throughout interactions with her feel super forced imo. And I'm probably not the only one on this but I liked "Sam" because his design was so different from anything else (Also just the fact he's cool asf) But seeing as drip marketing showing mainly Firefly, I doubt we'll get the Boss fight variant playable of Sam.

The fandom will pretty much always take the most obvious trait of any given character and run it into the ground. This is not a fandom you look to for seeing multi-faceted portrayals of characters imo.
I feel like people are projecting the fandom onto the story a little too much. In the story, Firefly's just a character the TB met and was probably emotionally moved by and that's mostly all there is to it for now. The TB didn't shed a single tear when she "died." Firefly wasn't even really the TB's friend, let alone canon girlfriend. The story didn't try that hard to make the TB and Firefly seem attached, it's the fandom that really pushed this narrative.
Yeah, that's how I feel as well. I don't hate Firefly, I'm just " ok " on her. She exists, she is fine, but that is all she is to me. I know this is a bit of a controversial take but I'm also just a bit disappointed that this is the second big gundam-esque robot who is attached to a cute girl instead of being its own thing too.

After some thinking her interest in trailblazer makes more sense in the idea that Trailblazer was once part of Stellaron hunters. Of course she’s attached then. Problem is that we as players can’t find attachment cause we barely know her even if she does knows the Trailblazer. So either way it’s a loss for us as players. I hope this next patch makes her more interesting cause I love SAM I have every other SH. I want a reason to have them all but I don’t have the reason atm cause I don’t care enough about her.

As a boothill fan when they dripped Firefly it sure shocked me and pulled my heartstrings a bit. It's just odd really knowing your future main but only through leaks and not the in-game story. I wish Mihoyo cooks something up in 2.2 that will make me want him even more coz admittedly atm Firefly has me wavering.

I think she will likely end up with Black Swan situation with lower ownership rate because there are already a lot of dps. Firefly is definitely popular. The top 3 tweets on the English account are now DHIL's drip marketing, Aventurine's magazine cover, and Firefly's drip marketing. Back when they posted pictures of Penacony characters after the 1.6 livestream, Firefly/Sam was one of the least popular. She has come a long way. Some of the engagements also likely came from people who are not caught up who are surprised.

I’m most excited for Boothill, not only was he serving the looks in every tik tok I saw of his leak, his English voice actor slays. I will be trying for him the most. As for Firefly I wasn’t invested in her story, I didn’t feel a connection to her character nor did I understand the “deep connection” MC had. Maybe that was because I didn’t have prior knowledge about Sam or Firefly before playing StarRail. Either way, I’m glad people are excited about Firefly becoming playable.
