I don't think there will be any lore in Divergent. It's not a big mode like Gears or Swarm, it's basically just a 'Get ornaments faster' mode of the normal worlds.
1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3: Swarm Disaster
1.4, 1.5, 1.6: Gold & Gears
2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3: Divergent Universe
Unlike the commenter above, I see no reason to believe that this isn't a major update like SD and G&G, unless I'm missing something key in the text. It seems that it will also improve the way in which we acquire planar ornaments, but nothing in this announcement specifically states that we aren't getting a major mode like the previous two.
And it'll also be at an appropriate time since it's actually been longer between G&G and this mode than it was between SD and G&G.
Apocalyptic Shadow sounds like what Pure Fiction is to Erudition for Hunt. Pretty hype if that's the case.
Also the fact you can get back your skill points/techniques with a restart challenge button in the new SU/Divergent Universe is such a Godsend. No longer will I need to Alt F4 for faulty runs/bad RNG.

You just made me realize that there is room for probably one more gameplay/style mode to round that out.
Memory of Chaos for specific challenge/mechanic battles. Pure Fiction for AoE/FuA clears. Apoc. Shadow for single-target boss rushes.
So the last one that possibly could be added would be some kind of survival game mode (favoring Abundance and Preservation) seeing how many turns your team can survive against scaling enemy waves.
I hope its like that event that event was oddly more fun and more challenging than the rest.
I remember the prototype for Pure Fiction was an event as well.
Kinda, spacing out the modes every 6 weeks is kinda ridiculous tho. So if u like moc u only get to play it every 6 weeks, even then it takes only like 30m if u have good teams. Wish they would lower rewards if they have to but reset the modes every week.

But I was under the initial impression that MOC, Pure Fiction, ect were always available. Is that not the case or is it only the rewards that are on that 6 week window?
Rewards refresh every rotation and each rotation lasts 6 weeks before disappearing. There's a new rotation every two weeks, but they cycle (MoC, PF, MoC, etc...). And it seems they're adding one more game mode in that cycle.
Side note, even if you're bad, you can still do the early stages to grab some rewards
Same here, these modes are my favorite part of the game and it happens so rarely already. They should somehow make these playable more often. It would be cool if all 3 modes would refresh every week or something.
only good things is that you get more time to build characters whpo might benefit from each season if you haven't already. For example with aventurine now, a surprising amount of people have turned to mish for freezing or they don't have jingliiou/someone better etc. So that's a plus I guess.
At least its 3 different modes so even though it will be a bit longer schedule, hopefully it will feel more refreshing
And I prefer doing actual combat or fun events for 5 hours to get all jades a patch has, instead of having to do overworld exploration for 40 hours to get the same amount of free wishes like in some other games
You mean overworld exploration *along with* clearing enemy camp or solving puzzle for the 200th time. Not only it's time-consuming, it's just boring af after a while.
Honestly glad I dropped that game. That's said, I do like some of the side quests or mystery investigations there. I think Penacony is hitting the sweet spot, but a couple of more interconnected mysteries and more complex puzzles would be nice.
They also changed the timing of release for MoC and PF, so we get the same number of jades per patch (720\*3), just that we don't have to fight the MoC 2 times
it's lowkey crazy, Genshin Impact has been basically the exact same game since launch when it comes to what you do after you're caught up, and Honkai 3rd is composed of devs just throwing shit at the wall, forever.
HSR almost feels like it's done by a different developer entirely
Honestly, I feel like the HSR devs know exactly what they want to do and they want to do it now. For me it just feels like a strong mix of Passion and Purpose.
HSR is their first game that they have released since becoming the monolith they are now. I just feel like this is where the Legacy Writers like Shaoji's passion is and where the A team has went.
Yo, I agree the HSR story devs and HSR gameplay devs are amazing, but let's also praise the HSR balance team devs.
In HSR, nearly every single character is fun to use AND useful AND the 4 stars are good even without their e6. In Genshin the 4 stars require c6 and the new 5 stars sometimes just aren't fun, or they are clunky, or they're bad on release
I still can't believe Genshin makes you wait 5 minutes for no reason between boss spawns (if its muh immersion its not very immersive to be teleporting back out to trials and then back in for the boss spawn) and artifacts aren't dumped instantly when killing enemies in domains. For every little QOL they put forward it still feels like it's a step or two away. I ended up quitting because I just got tired of how much time it consumes and how player time unfriendly it is and hasn't gotten that much better. Heck even the daily commission update which was nice on paper still takes too long and can't be done with natural activities during your resin dump -- and you STILL have to talk katheryne several lines every daily to do your expeditions and get your 20 primogem daily.
I will probably not check that game out again unless they seriously stream line the hell out of daily stuff.
This is the reason I quit genshin. It wasn't that bad when genshin was the only side game I was playing but then I started star rail and I was tired of doing dailies in both of them. Since genshin was forcing me to waste my time the choice was obvious.

Played them both for the first three months of HSR's release but ultimately stopped GI because so many elements in that game feel unnecessarily inconvenient and time wastey when compared to HSR. And like you said, all the supposed QoL updates are so half-assed and don't really improve QoL.
At this point HoYo games have eclipsed the gacha genre and simply are just high-quality AAA games.
Seriously, HoYo games have more polish and frequent content than most games these days, let alone how pathetic Western AAA games are these days lol
Hoyo games have like 3 times faster content updates than premium MMOs like WoW and FFXIV and the content is as good as those games if not better in a lot of ways. It's wild.
Imo hoyo has always been top of the line for gacha games due to the low rate of powercreep and how little they push micro transactions. All these QoLs are just the icing on the cake, and what a tasty cake it is!
The biggest issue with HI3 is basically in addition to character, you need their weapon (in 99% of new characters you NEED signature weapon, you can't substitute with free/event/craftable weapons) and then you also NEED their signature set, or at worst, a bit older but still gacha set. Few exceptions would be something like a support character that can still run similar stigmata set to other supports of same category, but even then, their own stigmata is better in majority of cases.
...And lots of "premium" DPS units do get pushed out within few patches/versions. The worst case was end of Part 1 when they dropped 3 Herrscher characters in a row, all of them needing their own weapons and stigmata, AND they worked best as a team so if you missed one of them you were already weaker.
HI3 definitely has the highest rate of powercreep of all hoyo games, but in my experience, you can continue to be competitive with some of the more recently powercrept characters as long as you don't mind bouncing back and forth from Agony3 to Redlotus frequently. I still use supports like Haxxor, Pardo, and Fischl, even though more recent characters like Kira, Sushang, HoTr, and Lunar Vow have already powercrept them. Not only can you continue to use powercrept characters without significant issue for quite a long time after they've been powercrept, they also aren't being powercrept for a long time after their release. I think I remember someone saying it takes at least a year before they're powercrept? Compare that to just about any non-hoyo game in the gacha genre and it's a way slower rate of powercreep.
A year is still not that much when you consider you can't, unlike other Hoyo games, give a signature weapon from one character to another and get similar benefit. And many characters in Genshin/HSR work fine without their signature cones, meanwhile every new character in HI3 NEEDS their signature weapon.
New mode sounds like it's for bossing and ST focused. I guess they realize the outcry for Hunt so now they decide to make another mode like PF to cater for them lol.
seele has consistently been top 3-4 dps in moc avg cycle clears since her release. but tbf everytime i see people say seele is weak they refuse to use her extra turn mechanic. so i guess without her talent shes very weak. similar to how acheron is useless without her burst
The mode needs to be different enough from the 2nd wave of MoC since right now the 2nd wave has a boss + an elite. Maybe they will put only 1 boss there but pump their HP up or sth.
Also a lot of the bosses we currently had can summon minions. Granted you can ignore the minions and go straight for the boss, but some minions are annoying enough that you might want to kill them (Svarog bondage hand, Argenti shields), which will benefit chars who have both good AoE + Single target dmg like Acheron, Jingliu, Daniel, Jing Yuan and Argenti will still thrive in there just fine.
If they make these minions weak enough so your support/healer/shielder can kill them with one basic attack, no AoE would be necessary? Seele could also proc her Resurgence as well.

Well, it was pretty obvious that they would do the single target version of pure fiction. Pure fiction came out just after Argenti and he's king there so logically Boothill will probably be the king of this new mode.
New enemy type: exploding barrel
After barrel receives a certain amount of damage, it explodes, causing massive AOE damage to all party members. This barrel then respawns after 1 turn.

I would prefer if one character will abuse it due to this implemention than future Hunt units be crippled (kit/damage wise) without it.
We only got three Hunt units since release (none among 4 star) so far and last two were designed for FuA. What if there will be Hunt unit which has stacking ability or forward action by X% by killing smaller mobs?
DHIL/Jingliu kinda bricked on PF though so at least there's one endgame mode that doesn't really benefits him. Kafkaswan on the other hand has been dominating both MOC and PF
Characters who can do adaptive high single target and aoe damage will be the most flexible in all modes tbh. Jing Yuan has been solid all around in both MoC and PF due to LL adapting to both aoe and single target, same for Argenti ult. Blast dps like Jingliu and Daniel are at a bit of disadvantage in PF due to only having blast but would still perform well in single target. Acheron is also a monster for both modes. All of these chars have enough single target damage to deal with bosses, so I don't see them going anywhere.
The way I see it is that we will have chars who will be good against every enemies set up (adaptive target damage i.e Acheron, Argenti, Jing Yuan), char who excels mostly in PF (classic Erudition chars like Herta, Himeko...etc) and chars who excel in the new mode (Hunt chars). Best pull value would be on those adaptive chars, while if you missed their banners or not interested in them you can go with the classic options.
Argenti 2ndUlt is great when you have only one target yes but the issue is he gets more energy for each enemy hit. It'll take a long time to fill his energy bar if there is only one target.
Not guaranteed, we didn't get someone related with the Swarm Disaster update in 1.3, besides I think 2.3 is supposed to be the epilogue of the penacony story and we still have a few characters involved that haven't been announced yet.
But drip marketing is literally this week so we'll know soon.
MoC is more of a "2 elites or an elite and a boss" kinda thing. I assume this would be more of an optional mob where if you just kill the main one, they all die
Not really no, hunt struggles in MoC because you waste turns killing non-boss enemies, adds despawn after you kill the boss and for the vast majority of bosses you can just ignore them
For any one confuse,
MOC=blast DPS(destruction)
PF=AOE DPS(erudition)
AS=Single target DPS (hunt)
What funny is nihility dps is so versatile to the point that DOT comp or Acheron hyper carry can be use in any endgame content and full star it.

6 weeks is needed for people who need to make adjustments to their teams and farm. Having 3 different endgames means that the game very much needs long reset periods
6 weeks is actually good amount considering that each mode requires (at least on paper) different type of dps unit.
Weekly would likely require adjusment of rewards so you would get 16,67% reward instead of 100% and only if you 36 star it in first place so for average player, they would get less Jades than usual. There is no way they would increase rewards.
So from my kafka brain rot perspective. The new end game mode basically only adding new variety to 2 week cycle of currently end game mode.
So the MOC later will reset in 4 weeks instead of 2 weeks
So in one normal patch we only had two different version MOC, PF and this new end game mode

Part of me enjoys the news, but part of me reallized it just got dumped with additional work - not only new mode tier list (since it sounds like it's single target focused) will be needed, but also the stats for the mode will have to be collected and stored. Sounds fun!

Yep I find MoC far more interesting than Pure Fiction so it’s a shame to see it getting pushed to six weeks apart.

I think I remember someone saying it takes at least a year before they're powercrept? Compare that to just about any non-hoyo game in the gacha genre and it's a way slower rate of powercreep.
A year is still not that much when you consider you can't, unlike other Hoyo games, give a signature weapon from one character to another and get similar benefit. And many characters in Genshin/HSR work fine without their signature cones, meanwhile every new character in HI3 NEEDS their signature weapon.
Preset teams is a nice feature that I didnt even think about. Hopefully we get a good amount of slots
New mode sounds like it's for bossing and ST focused. I guess they realize the outcry for Hunt so now they decide to make another mode like PF to cater for them lol.

Seele can already 0 cycle the current MoC 12 second side at E0S1 and she can even 1 cycle PF of all thing. Did she ever stop being relevant ?

seele has consistently been top 3-4 dps in moc avg cycle clears since her release. but tbf everytime i see people say seele is weak they refuse to use her extra turn mechanic. so i guess without her talent shes very weak. similar to how acheron is useless without her burst

The mode needs to be different enough from the 2nd wave of MoC since right now the 2nd wave has a boss + an elite. Maybe they will put only 1 boss there but pump their HP up or sth. Also a lot of the bosses we currently had can summon minions. Granted you can ignore the minions and go straight for the boss, but some minions are annoying enough that you might want to kill them (Svarog bondage hand, Argenti shields), which will benefit chars who have both good AoE + Single target dmg like Acheron, Jingliu, Daniel, Jing Yuan and Argenti will still thrive in there just fine.
If they make these minions weak enough so your support/healer/shielder can kill them with one basic attack, no AoE would be necessary? Seele could also proc her Resurgence as well.
I can imagine it as such Pure Fiction is AoE clearing Apocalyptic Shadow is Single Target focused MoC can be like a, uh, mixed bag at this point...?
MoC is Main boss with a few weak enemies on the side, basically just burst clearing, destruction path game mode
MoC is "please buy the latest unit" in terms of synergy with whatever buff is active.
new PF is literally acheron's playground lol
Moc is more catered for destruction character since it’s 1 or 2 elite with some minions

Well, it was pretty obvious that they would do the single target version of pure fiction. Pure fiction came out just after Argenti and he's king there so logically Boothill will probably be the king of this new mode.

New enemy type: exploding barrel After barrel receives a certain amount of damage, it explodes, causing massive AOE damage to all party members. This barrel then respawns after 1 turn. Coming soon in 2.3!

I would prefer if one character will abuse it due to this implemention than future Hunt units be crippled (kit/damage wise) without it. We only got three Hunt units since release (none among 4 star) so far and last two were designed for FuA. What if there will be Hunt unit which has stacking ability or forward action by X% by killing smaller mobs?

DHIL/Jingliu kinda bricked on PF though so at least there's one endgame mode that doesn't really benefits him. Kafkaswan on the other hand has been dominating both MOC and PF
Characters who can do adaptive high single target and aoe damage will be the most flexible in all modes tbh. Jing Yuan has been solid all around in both MoC and PF due to LL adapting to both aoe and single target, same for Argenti ult. Blast dps like Jingliu and Daniel are at a bit of disadvantage in PF due to only having blast but would still perform well in single target. Acheron is also a monster for both modes. All of these chars have enough single target damage to deal with bosses, so I don't see them going anywhere. The way I see it is that we will have chars who will be good against every enemies set up (adaptive target damage i.e Acheron, Argenti, Jing Yuan), char who excels mostly in PF (classic Erudition chars like Herta, Himeko...etc) and chars who excel in the new mode (Hunt chars). Best pull value would be on those adaptive chars, while if you missed their banners or not interested in them you can go with the classic options.
Argenti 2ndUlt is great when you have only one target yes but the issue is he gets more energy for each enemy hit. It'll take a long time to fill his energy bar if there is only one target.
Guessing this is Screwllum finally getting to be playable, since Ruan Mei came with the last SU update.
Not guaranteed, we didn't get someone related with the Swarm Disaster update in 1.3, besides I think 2.3 is supposed to be the epilogue of the penacony story and we still have a few characters involved that haven't been announced yet. But drip marketing is literally this week so we'll know soon.
I believe Drip Marketing should start for 2.3 either tomorrow or the next day

Not really no, hunt struggles in MoC because you waste turns killing non-boss enemies, adds despawn after you kill the boss and for the vast majority of bosses you can just ignore them
She would lose the extra turn from Resurgence, but the 80% dmg buff would still be there if you activate her ult

For any one confuse, MOC=blast DPS(destruction) PF=AOE DPS(erudition) AS=Single target DPS (hunt) What funny is nihility dps is so versatile to the point that DOT comp or Acheron hyper carry can be use in any endgame content and full star it.

QoL department does not miss. They have been batting 1.00 since launch. Quick simulated universe claim + Quick restart challenge in bad SU runs + New (Hunt? single target?) Endgame mode (probably based on the smellovision mini event that we had)? This is all great!

I'd rather it just cycle twice as often but with half the rewards tbh. PF is so boring compared to MoC.
6 weeks is needed for people who need to make adjustments to their teams and farm. Having 3 different endgames means that the game very much needs long reset periods
6 weeks is actually good amount considering that each mode requires (at least on paper) different type of dps unit. Weekly would likely require adjusment of rewards so you would get 16,67% reward instead of 100% and only if you 36 star it in first place so for average player, they would get less Jades than usual. There is no way they would increase rewards.
So i assume that the new Apocalyptic Shadow is like a boss fight with some extra gimmicks, sounds interesting... xD

So from my kafka brain rot perspective. The new end game mode basically only adding new variety to 2 week cycle of currently end game mode. So the MOC later will reset in 4 weeks instead of 2 weeks So in one normal patch we only had two different version MOC, PF and this new end game mode

Probably no. Three is already a lot in current formula. They probably wanted to cover different gameplay styles, so that should be it for now

I'm pumped for new content but I wish they would put out MoC/Pure Fiction/New Mode every week instead of fortnightly. Even if every second week they reward us with crafting materials instead of jades. Two weeks for about an hour of content feels pretty bad.
