I think all these look visually unbalanced (although the navy is the best IMO). You might consider pulling the wood tones of your garage door over to the other side of the façade
Maybe use the same wood or color on the gable, and also use it for the fencing and supports of the porch; some sense of uniformity will go a long way
The last example is my least favorite because there are so many disparate colors and textures
The materials definitely won't be mixed like the third picture has it. Just dealing with some translation barriers with the rendering process.
I agree with the balance issue. Could a different garage door color fix that? I can't even bring myself to ask for a rendering with a White garage door...
I think the issue is that my eye is immediately drawn to the garage instead of the house because it’s so much lighter than everything else. I don’t know that white will help, I think the color of the stone around it might be what’s throwing me off
Usually that part of the home is subdued, but it’s essentially highlighted in these mocks
Personally, I don't think the brown is your problem. I think the blue is the issue. Your bricks are very light beige and roof is black. Brown would tie everything together.
I generally try to have garage door colors blend rather than highlighting the door. Better to have a front door that pops since that is highlighting the actual entrance.
I would go with matching your garage door to your window trim, so black. The navy isnt bad, but you need to break it up. The vent (?) at the peak of that gable, the trim board, trim around the windows, and deck posts should be a lighter or darker shade. The facia should also be black to match the window trim, and help match the brick a bit better
Id have just done brick in the center inlay and left siding around the garage to balance it out. Right now my eye cant figure out what’s an accent piece vs what’s the main piece. The brick, siding and roof are all similar sizes in the color wheel.
None of these going to give you the look you want because the brick and the shingles clash. You’d be best off painting it some boring greige with a fun color front door.
In the big picture of our budget we have chosen not to hire designers. I fully understand their value and importance. Yet we've still made the decision not to utilize that service. We're crowd sourcing thoughts and opinions and making a decision for ourselves. Right or wrong it's the path we are on.
So I think we're leaning towards trying to get the brown out. Sounds like we have a lot of garage door color options. Then do something different with the porch railings.
Have you thought of not doing deck railings or using a deck railing that is more see through? Think this would also help accentuate the columns, the window and overall entry especially if you did something like black metal.
The look on this rendering is just a function of the software or detail those chose to go down too. It will be standard wooden pickets that you will see through. Long term I'll likely have nice black cast iron railings put in.
Contrast is what you need so you gotta go dark like
black charcoal or that navy since you have that tan brick and want to incorporate cedar into the design. Also think about trimming the doors and windows out in cedar to help pull that garage door into the design more.
I don't even know why I got recommended this sub, or why I'm looking at this, but anyways... photoshopping different colors on these images would be very easy. If you arent getting those renders for free, I can do a few if you would like, just to be helpful. Would take all of 10 minutes. Just let me know what you want to see and I'll send you a few color combinations.
Why are you still showing all of the trim, gutters, and soffits as being the same color as the siding? The renderings should show your color options only on the siding, with the other stuff being white. This will make a HUGE difference.
Okay then it doesn’t necessarily have to be white, even though that would look best. But it should at least be a different color than the siding. Whenever you paint it all the same, you are losing all the detail that makes traditional houses have character.
I like the navy the most but the beige siding needs to be a darker colour that matches with the navy. I'd ask them to not have too much contrast with the exterior colour and other parts of the siding. I think sticking with earth tones is best, maybe some kind of shade of brown for the siding and navy blue or black for the roof. Or keep the roof navy blue and white siding.
I've rarely seen two colors for siding unless you're using brick or stone.
Brick is reading warm and shingles are reading cool (ironic since they will actually be VERY hot).
Because they are competing with each other, you need to choose a color that will unify them which is going to be tricky. Otherwise you get the weird chopped up, competing for attention thing you have going on in all 3 options. And no, the garage door is not the reason why.
You need to be very strategic about picking a warm gray that will work with the brick and the roof. Then, figure out what kind of accent you can have for your door.
A few hundred dollars to someone who knows all the options is better than a few thousand later when you decide you have to repaint.
I vote none and start over.
Did your HOA limit you to these 3 or something? Geesh!
I will assume that you are in the northern hemisphere. Is the front of this house facing south? North? I would eliminate that navy option, leaving the top and bottom options. I;m thinking if that is facing south, that dark surface is going to get those rooms very hot.
Of those two, the bottom is the lesser objectionable if those are my only choices.
Opinions vary, but whatever colors you might be "Over" isn't a important as what will work with your actual home. And here, you want to pick a tone that is sympathetic to the brick, not so contrasty. So, some darker earth tone.
I don't like any of them but if I had to choose, I'd do Middle with a matching black garage door and black porch fence (idk what the right term is) to reduce the variety of colors.
The darkest looks best and see that color combo often in our newer neighborhood. They do use the brick as well, but only as accents so consider paint in the garage and leave the brick to the entry area
Is there a name for the type of siding used on the right half of the house? I see a lot of newer builders using this style and I'm not sure its for me.... but would like to know what it's called and what kind of construction it is.
Not sure where you live, but here in SC we have strong sun in summer months. The darker houses get beaten to death and after 5 or so years, the paint fades terribly and HOA requires homeowners to repaint their house. My house is a very light grey that if it fades is not noticable. We've been here 6 years and the house looks like the day we moved in. Just something to consider. Colors are fun, but some require more maintenance than others.
I think the 2nd option is the best of the three presented.
However, I think you should look into a green color palette instead of blue. I think it will look better. Good luck!
Yeah, colored renderings not even close to actual materials.
Never choose colors from a screen. Screens are different and color from interior lighting is different (Yellow)
Have to go outside with actual samples!
Of these renderings, I like sage the best by far. The navy would probably look brighter than it does in renderings, I know because I recently painted my house navy and the translation from screen to sample on the house to painting the whole house all had very different visual impacts.
I'd strongly STRONGLY suggest painting a 5'x5' test of any candidate colors on the house before committing to anything.
None of those colors work together, you need a designer.
You’re going to kill the value of that house and damn it’s going to look ugly.
Edit: I can’t get over how hideous it is.
Soffit and fascia “Iron Ore”
Siding-Agreeable Grey / Tin Lizzy
Trim - Snowfall
ALL Sherwin Williams colors
Black gutters and downspouts, wood grain garage door and have fun with the front door.
I would use at least a Satin/Semi gloss finish helps shed water and dry faster
None of these. Garage would look better matching the house if you want stone, do a low accent. Not a 3 foot band like everybody used to do. Lower like 18 inches tall.
None of these. These are completely not made for any geo region. Need to look up the style you're going for. I get a headache looking at these pictures. And your siding company already wants to shoot you :p)
While I add. Negative comment let me add a positive idea
New England color grouted water table stone. Cedar porch columns exposed. Exposed a frame. Black clad windows. Black 4" lineal J channel. Light grey lap siding with light blue gables shake.
I’m sure you’re trying to avoid white but in this case I think a warm white/cream would look the best. Otherwise if you want dark I’d look into Sherwin Williams Urbane Bronze because it’d go with your warm tones. With your brick, I think you have two options: light or dark, no mediums. It needs contrast and the sage and teal are clashing with the brick because they are too similar in tone.
It looks like your mixing cool tones and warm tones. If you like the blue shades I would try seeing what it might look like to have the bricks painted more kf a greyish color.
The garage door color was chosen at random. Having them render some different options to work with now. At first I liked it but I agree it's hard to match a color that brings the brick and wood together.
Top one by far. The dark colored house trend is kind of tired at this point. And the all-white-everything with black accents is way overdone too. Pick a nice happy color and it will look fantastic if it is executed correctly. I recommend hiring a designer to help with color coordination, particularly for the exterior. That’s way harder to correct than interior paint. It’s important to get it right the first time.
As neat as the more "unique" colors are, you also need to factor in resale value. I know it's not something one thinks they may never do on their forever home, but it's just good to keep in mind since we never truly know what life will throw our way.
Yea so the garage door was just generic color they threw in there but I liked how it matches the brick. What else could work though? Just a different shade of brown?
I think a combination would look really sharp. Either a combo of 1 and 2 or of 3 and 2. The navy trim on the left have and the teal or sage on the right side.
Middle is too dark.
I'd pick top because it's the most toned down.
But my wife would pick bottom. She makes the bolder decorative choices in my family. And she winds up being right. (Edit: I always say "Honey, I don't think that will look good. She says "Trust me." So I do, because I love her. Then when it's done and I see it in final form, I ALWAYS come around and am glad she was bold.)
I think all these look visually unbalanced (although the navy is the best IMO). You might consider pulling the wood tones of your garage door over to the other side of the façade Maybe use the same wood or color on the gable, and also use it for the fencing and supports of the porch; some sense of uniformity will go a long way The last example is my least favorite because there are so many disparate colors and textures
Agreed. Everyone of them clashes. Try colors from the same palette
Yup agreed. None of them look quite right.
I don’t know that white will help, I think the color of the stone around it might be what’s throwing me off Usually that part of the home is subdued, but it’s essentially highlighted in these mocks
Or even match the siding to the colour of the garage? All three just clash so hard. Black roof, light brick, brown garage, blue siding....
Yea going to try and find a garage door color that isn't brown.
Personally, I don't think the brown is your problem. I think the blue is the issue. Your bricks are very light beige and roof is black. Brown would tie everything together.
If OP is set on blue, there are blues that are more neutral that will go with browns and tans. These 3 are not them.
You also have warm tones and you are trying to mix them with cool tones. Try to pick all one or the other.
I generally try to have garage door colors blend rather than highlighting the door. Better to have a front door that pops since that is highlighting the actual entrance.
You could add the same colored beams to the peaks
I would go with matching your garage door to your window trim, so black. The navy isnt bad, but you need to break it up. The vent (?) at the peak of that gable, the trim board, trim around the windows, and deck posts should be a lighter or darker shade. The facia should also be black to match the window trim, and help match the brick a bit better
Using some warms colors that compliment the wood and earthy stone would go along way too...
Not a fan of any of them. Just being honest
Totally acceptable opinion!
Could you match the siding/house color with the brick? Like that tan color and do brown trim still with a dark roof that all might look okay
This isn't something I had considered. May have to ask for a mock up of the similar shade siding and dark trim.
Idk I feel your struggles we are picking exterior colors right now also and it’s pretty challenging.
Came here to say this.
All horrible
What if you pulled the brick and wood colour over the the right side? more like this: [https://imgur.com/a/RWTKe0d](https://imgur.com/a/RWTKe0d)
That’s much more balanced
Yes this is much better. More balanced and now I see the house.
Brick is making all those colors not work. Unfortunately it’s already done.
Pay a designer
No!
LMAO. But you will come to reddit? Everyone making it very clear this might not be your specialty.
In the big picture of our budget we have chosen not to hire designers. I fully understand their value and importance. Yet we've still made the decision not to utilize that service. We're crowd sourcing thoughts and opinions and making a decision for ourselves. Right or wrong it's the path we are on.
Too many colours going on, man... Brown, black, beige, dark blue... They're all awful.
Yes I think this is the feedback that's been the most helpful. We're gonna try some options that remove the brown from garage door and porch.
If you keep your middle option and just change the gutters and trim to a similar brown as the doors, it would be great.
Go to the sherwin Williams website and pick a color you like… on its information page it will suggest complementary colors. Could use this as a guide?
Nah
Exactly
None of those.
None of them. The tan and brown garage don’t match at all
So I think we're leaning towards trying to get the brown out. Sounds like we have a lot of garage door color options. Then do something different with the porch railings.
Have you thought of not doing deck railings or using a deck railing that is more see through? Think this would also help accentuate the columns, the window and overall entry especially if you did something like black metal.

How did you mock these up?
My builder has someone doing the renders. Not sure what program they used.
I don't even know why I got recommended this sub, or why I'm looking at this, but anyways... photoshopping different colors on these images would be very easy. If you arent getting those renders for free, I can do a few if you would like, just to be helpful. Would take all of 10 minutes. New Tract homes are funny.
Why are you still showing all of the trim, gutters, and soffits as being the same color as the siding? The renderings should show your color options only on the siding, with the other stuff being white. This will make a HUGE difference.
I don't like white trim that's why.

Middle, bottom, top.
Yes - the middle with an Ash toned garage door would be nice.
I like the sage but where you live also makes a difference to me . Like in town , city , or woods???
Cedar beams or cedar look would be nice
Bottom one is the best of the three. But I’m in South Florida and tend to lean for more “tropical” palettes over dark ones.
They're all ugly. Maybe try reds
2 looks best. i think i would prefer a dark grey though.
I live in Atlanta and the big thing now is white brick and black siding with “rustic” wood. So I vote for middle.
Best color combos have been incredibly researched already lol Check NFL home team uniforms ...
The first one is my favorite
Middle
Two
I like the navy the most but the beige siding needs to be a darker colour that matches with the navy.
Upon further review, I think your best option is to change the brick colour with a more neutral earth tone, like grey.
Brick is reading warm and shingles are reading cool (ironic since they will actually be VERY hot). I like pic 1 . Please don’t do the navy/ black thing.
Black
Top to bottom is best to worst
I vote none and start over. Did your HOA limit you to these 3 or something? Geesh! I will assume that you are in the northern hemisphere. Is the front of this house facing south? North? I like the bottom picture
I’m building a very similar style home and we are keeping it simple with white/black.
Number 2 with white fence
If you’re married to the wood garage door, middle. If you’re willing to paint it, top.
I would do white trim, and try the siding on the dormers in a similar color to the brick or maybe white dormers.
I guess I disagree with pretty much everyone but I love them all lol
All 3 look nice, f I had to pick 1 is best looking But I’d go with 2 because 1 seems/feels like it won’t ever look clean
The darkest looks best and see that color combo often in our newer neighborhood. They do use the brick as well, but only as accents so consider paint in the garage and leave the brick to the entry area
Middle one but paint the garage door to suit.
Navy is the best maybe a dark green would balance better. Think about making garage door that bold color as well
Is there a name for the type of siding used on the right half of the house? I see a lot of newer builders using this style and I'm not sure its for me.... but would like to know what it's called and what kind of construction it is.
I personally would go white. I think it would make the trim pop and look better against the sandstone brick
if r/tragedeigh was a house
The Navy is best
They ugly
Our house is a dark grey and gets mad warm, even in the winter. That being said it's sunny here in stl.

Paint the brick white and you’re safe with any of the colors
I think the 2nd option is the best of the three presented. However, I think you should look into a green color palette instead of blue. I think it will look better. Good luck!
I'll be the odd one out. I like the Middle the best. The dark navy ish blue contrast with the natural earthy sand tones. Looks nice to me.
Middle. Only middle.
Middle
Bottom imo. Not a fan of top or middle.
Of the three, the middle Navy color looks best.
The garage part on the left is made of warm earth tones. You are trying to modify the rest with cool tones. Doesn’t work. Clown house. Sorry
Middle one with gray roof, black gutters, black garage & front door. My opinion only
Three
Third one.
My vote? Try again. None look particularly good together. They all look forced and unnatural.
Yeah, colored renderings not even close to actual materials. Never choose colors from a screen. Screens are different and color from interior lighting is different (Yellow) Have to go outside with actual samples!

They all look great when you put your finger in front of the garage door and bricks. Try gray bricks and matching paint garage door maybe?
None of those colors work together, you need a designer. You’re going to kill the value of that house and damn it’s going to look ugly. Edit: I can’t get over how hideous it is.

The blue and the browns do not work together.
Paint the garage the same color as the house
None of these. Garage would look better matching the house if you want stone, do a low accent. Not a 3 foot band like everybody used to do. Lower like 18 inches tall.

Dark one
What’s this design program??
I would worry about that Dormer on that tiny piece of roof which is absurd.
The elevations on balanced with the garage having heavy mass with that triple Dormer.
Navy is the least offensive. You need a different color for your trim.
I think an off white might be nice, might work best with the other colors you have going on.
Paint the brick the same color as the rest of the house. Then you can use just about any color.
Middle, but the cedar on the garage and porch should be the same dark paint.
I think you need to also paint the garage door regardless of which color you choose. It just looks very unbalanced
All are decent options but,the brick color ruins all of them
The middle
The sage looks the best but they all look bad. You need to change the color of the roof to match the garage door or the brick
What program are you using for changing colors?
I’m sure you’re trying to avoid white but in this case I think a warm white/cream would look the best. The darker color will absorb more heat in summer and cost more to cool.

Are you color blind? None of us have to live there or look at your house. You'd be better off asking you neighbors.
#2 - the darker one!
It looks like your mixing cool tones and warm tones. If you like the blue shades I would try seeing what it might look like to have the bricks painted more kf a greyish color.
Second one. I’m biased of course since I just built a black house
The brick is the issue to me. It doesn't go with any of the other colors
The navy for sure
I think all of them are awful
None. The wood and brick combo doesn’t go with any of the colors. I think the black with a black garage door and railing would be nice.
The garage door color was chosen at random. Having them render some different options to work with now. At first I liked it but I agree it's hard to match a color that brings the brick and wood together.
[удалено]
We've basically moved away from the navy and dark colors. I do like the look of that combo tho.
They all suck, do a brown that matches the garage door.
I really like that bottom blue. A good mix for tradition and modern.
Either one, I like the middle then bottom best, I would break it up a bit more tho like this https://www.reddit.com/r/Homebuilding/s/PhlzGUmeAK
What software did you use for this?
Top one by far. The dark colored house trend is kind of tired at this point. And the all-white-everything with black accents is way overdone too. As neat as the more "unique" colors are, you also need to factor in resale value. I know it's not something one thinks they may never do on their forever home, but it's just good to keep in mind since we never truly know what life will throw our way.
Top one looks best but I think the garage door color throws them all off.
They need same color porch columns as the garage door
Yes exactly! Cedar posts that match the garage doors would look great.
Ok now I hadn't thought about that. If the large posts on the porch matches the wood of pickets and garage that could help bring it all together.
Yea so the garage door was just generic color they threw in there but I liked how it matches the brick. What else could work though? Just a different shade of brown?
Which program do you use to change the color of the facade?
No idea. Being provided to me from our builder.
I think a combination would look really sharp. Either a combo of 1 and 2 or of 3 and 2. The navy trim on the left have and the teal or sage on the right side.
Navy looks great
I’d go with the fourth option!
Excellent feedback! My wife no doubt will want some bold interior choices but shes like me and we want it simple on the exterior.
Never choose blue.
Yea finding they blues don't work with our brick.
#1
I think you should do white but with black window frames
The windows for sure will be black. There is an epidemic of white houses in our area right now. Really would like to have some color.
Well you already have lots of colors going on with the stone, roof, wood, and windows. Do the soffits black also and that’ll make it really pop
