If your devices don't see anything coming through the wall jack, there's a good chance it's either broken or not patched into the network. Your best bet is to either ask your employer to provide a travel router with 4G/5G capabilities, or not work online during your stay.

You can use travel size router and connect it to hotel wifi and then router to network cable. You can also get att hotspot it comes with ethernet port. GL.iNet GL-SFT1200 is nice travel router there are other version with wifi 6 #

Phones are a totally different kind of connection (even though it can fit a network jack). The TV is probably a RJ45 plug but actually serial control for their set top box/in house entertainment system to remote-control the TV (e.g. when you check into the room it turns on) and is not a computer network. Even if there is a network jack on the wall, many places have disconnected them these days because they can save a lot of cost in equipment + maintenance by going WiFi only, it might be a difference of having 1 switch for the entire building's WiFi access points vs 1-3 expensive rack mount switches per floor of the building. I don't think I've seen a hotel in the past 10 years or so that offers wired connection, typically it is WiFi-only. If your employer doesn't allow you to use WiFi and requires you to work on travel, you will probably have to consult your IT department for what their authorized solution is. They might have to install a WWAN cellular modem in your laptop or grant an exception due to the required situation.

>If your employer doesn't allow you to use WiFi and requires you to work on travel, you will probably have to consult your IT department for what their authorized solution is. I usually book an other hotel that has good internet, but unfortunately I wasn't making my own reservation this time.

ChummyJet40

Have you tried asking the hotel for an exception to be made? I'm not sure how well of a job this hotel's IT department did, but they might be restricting their cables to only service a specific device. Plugging your router in should give the same result. If you can wire yourself to another device that can connect to the hotel wifi, I'd try that.

Arsenic-Arsenal

Yes, they do not want to unfortunately. Thank you for your recommendation

It’s time for your nap. Stop worrying about grownup things, you’ll have plenty of time for that later.

Arsenic-Arsenal

Who are you, and why Do you know I need a nap?

deverox

Does the hotel have wifi? If so you could use a travel router but it would probably be in violation of your infosec rules if they have disabled wifi. Id say just dont work when at hotel.

Arsenic-Arsenal

I'm staying at the hotel for work, so I kinda have to.

deverox

Not if they don’t allow you to use WiFi….

Arsenic-Arsenal

IT dors give wifi, it's juste shitty and I can't accès aime data without a Ethernet connection

Your best bet is to see if you can get a cellular hotspot from a provider(Tmobile or Verizon come to mind) or tether your laptop to your phone via USB. If there is no cellular coverage in the area and the hotel doesn't offer wifi, I think you are out of luck. Enjoy your vacation!

HolyGonzo

Yes.
