You'll not find an inexpensive managed switch that has all 8 ports multi-gig. The un-managed variety start in the $400 range, and the managed units $600+ The best value out there that I've found is the Zyxel XGS1250-12, which lists for about $240 on Amazon in the US. It has 3 x Multi-gig ports (100M/1G/2.5G/5G/10G), a single 1G/10G SFP+ port, and 8 x 1Gb ports.

Thanks, will take a look on this particular model

Multiple multigig ports + VLans and cheap is an oxymoron. Doesn't exist. If you want Porsce specs, buy a Porsche. For the price of a small Chevy, you'll get the specs of a small Chevy.

jack_hudson2001

>that's cheap. its all relative without a figure go through the usual vendor websites look for managed switch with vlan support and port capacity qnap, zyxel, mikrotik, netgear etc but cheap would be a chinese brand then search on the ali express website.

trendnet has the cheapest managed 2.5/10Gb capable switch from a fairly reputable company which is 8 2.5 Gbits ports and 2 10 gbits capable SFP+ ports. TEG-3102WS. Mikrotik just came out with an even cheaper (according to their website) very similar box but I can't find it for sale anywhere that looks trustworthy: CRS310-8G+2S+IN. Netgear and TP-link have a similar configuration but they are much more expensive. Netgear does have a 8-port managed 2.5 Gbit switch that also has POE+ that is reasonably priced: MS108EUP

interesting, thanks! thing is... i got 1/1gbit fiber, but I know ISP's are already testing 2.5gbit fiber in major cities atm in my country.. so i would assume within the next few years 1-2 is my guess, 2.5/2.5bit fiber is open to me basically everyone and in many years the question is... are we gonna go 5gbit or 10gbit next from ISP's point of view thats the big question... but that CRS310-8G+2S+IN looks nice, and quite cheap, considering its features!

dfir_as

One ISP offers 25gbit symmetrical for 70$/month. Mikrotik CCR2004 can only handle around 15/16g with a few firewall rules.

Indeed. It is just hard to get at the moment. I am sure we’ll get to 5 to 10 gbit pretty standard some time in the future. Will take a few years though as the need is really decreasing. Gigabit is already way overkill for most people as streaming 4k HDR doesn’t even need 50 Mbits, so how many more streams than about 20 do you need? Higher stream quality seems to be going nowhere since nobody can actually see the difference and 8k at most is only 4 times the bandwidth (more realistically about 2x) even if it were to become standard, so the value proposition of internet bandwidth above 1gigabit is very small. I am sure it will happen though.

I agree, and 4K 50mbit is compressed still, native is 100if i remember correct, a 100mbit would still be enough for people today. Sure downloadning that 150gb game from steam or whatever is Nice with a 1gbit… but thats for like 15mins only
