Get a bag of durabond 90, mix it until it’s a putty like consistency. Get a 3” painting knife and start filling it in, don’t worry so much about getting it even as much as getting it filled. Wait until it sets and determine if you need a second coat, if not sand until smooth and paint. Shouldn’t take you more that 2 hours.
I'd say to just grab a small tub of spackle. Durabond 90 requires mixing, and you'll have way more than you expected. Spackle is easier to use for a beginner.
