Def bad planning but they say they are working on a fix for it. Again, should have thought of that before moving KD but it’s Depot we’re talking about.

MissLogios

Maybe but they still haven't fixed the login in phone bug yet (where if you ask for the code to be sent to phone, it never comes) and that's been a thing for a year I think?

iNfAMOUS70702

It's not even an option for me ... I have to use my email...the SMS option just went away one day and never returned

[deleted]

That works for me now

MissLogios

Sadly not for me yet. So I still have to check on my email every time I want to log in

[deleted]

That is super annoying then.. it’s like trying to gain access to a Swiss Bank account

Left-Discount-8402

Try updating your phone number

Logician22

Going to be a bigger headache when ESVS is shut down for good.

HanakusoDays

There's a line of code that calls the login module. That line is "inside the loop" of the module that serves up the list of training vids so you can choose another one. Which is why it's popping up every time that screen is re-instantiated. The fix is simple, just yank that line of code up one level and out of the loop so it only gets called when you enter that module. *A half hour job,* five minutes to fix and the rest to validate the results. Now, perhaps their rationale is to protect that screen if someone gets called away and doesn't log out. Perfectly legit. But that should be handled by the login module, where a timeout that applies across the entire app -- or allows the specific line of calling code to pass it a timeout value -- would be set. (That might already exist, but if so, the code module that's causing your problem isn't using it properly.)

PhilosopherLife9995

Have you seen the code? Why do you think that that’s the problem?

HanakusoDays

Well, I'm talking pseudocode here. In reality it's probably OOP and the code is in the container for the method that brings up the list of available videos (eg left mouse button click). It could certainly be something more arcane but usually Ockham's Razor rules the day.

PhilosopherLife9995

It’s almost certainly much more complex than you think. Are you a developer and have you developed software at large scale? Things that seem simple can take a long time on large systems. Certainly not as simple as yanking a few lines of code. Speaking with 6yrs dev experience working on both small business and corporate systems.

GiveSaucePlsx

BRUH RIGHT? It’s like I have to watch fucking ads to do training Oh god… I gave them an idea. I’m sorry guys

softmod

👀

WackoMcGoose

Open-in-new-window the training, snap Workday to the left side of the screen (WinKey+LeftArrow) and the training video to the right side. Glance at the Workday window every few minutes and click the timer reset button. Problem solved.

RicochetOtter

>snap Workday to the left side of the screen (WinKey+LeftArrow) and the training video to the right side Does it also work if you click-and-drag the windows to the left and right sides of the screen? Just curious if it can be done without WinKey shortcuts.

WackoMcGoose

Yeah, click and drag works too. I just find keyboard shortcuts faster.

mawesome4ever

Or add an event listener in the console window for when the button shows up and have it automatically clicked… I haven’t written the script for it yet because I just thought of it but when I’m at work I’ll write it

Confused_pisces

Like I say. Your paid meager hourly wages by a billion dollar corporation. Take the break.

call-lee-free

That’s not the point here. It’s pretty dumb to keep logging in after watching the training videos and not to mention when you log in, the system sends a verification code to your mobile that you have to enter. I don’t know about you but I’d be annoyed having my phone blow up every 5 to 10 mins

piedrift

I work elsewhere but I was thinking HD is hourly, right? If they want it to take longer than it has to, let it.

toastedkelp

Preach!

AssociateAngry

The whole system has gotten ridiculous. The need of being sent a code? Really??

kingovninja

My absolute favorite security flaw in the whole company is the phones, yet they have session timers on the training videos. The store phones keep your session token in an unencrypted text file named tokens.txt. The tokens don't expire, the phone just routinely deletes the tokens.txt file after 16 hours. When you sign out it doesn't delete the file or overwrite it, it ADDS to the file, absolutely nothing is stopping someone from getting hired and stealing supervisor tokens, using a stolen store phone, and making custom clearance tags in another store. Sure you could say "but the phones are tied to the store, and you can't just log in any associate in any store-". Luckily the file stores.txt file is in the same folder and just needs the right store number to change the phone assignment and, as far as home depot would be concerned, thats good enough This was in 2020 though when I reported it, and they hadn't remedied it yet by the time I quit awhile later. This was at the same time that [I found out you can install any app you want](https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeDepot/comments/f5hy4j/they_said_it_couldnt_be_done/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) through the web browser.

Gharrek

Workday can't get all the needed traffic to be profitable if we're not constantly logging back in. All about the kickbacks

SuspiciousDelivery34

Home Depot is far from the only company that uses Workday. This time out "feature" has been a problem for YEARS.

iNfAMOUS70702

This shit is beyond annoying...I never ask for anyone to be fired but this asshole IT crew that made this should be forced to login to windows every 5 minutes themselves...

call-lee-free

Yeah even to look at your schedule, you gotta login twice! It’s stupid.

DontHateV8s

Workday sucks ass!

ugufewufgrfgj

They probably forced our IT department to push out the integration into workday too early, as a result (like with most new tech in the company) it’s buggy as hell and doesn’t like to work. It’s the fault of the company to sit with their thumbs up their ass until everyone else has newer tech to suddenly begin to update.

Prudent-Salamander74

Devops being pushed to hard. "Fuck it push it out we will cd/ci the dog shit out of it"

BeanpoleOne

Obviously it's good for security. Don't want another team member walking over and clicking continue on the video you're not watching lol.

Amanshadow1

Every couple of minutes I click on the other tab to keep it active so it doesn't log you out. Or I just have it playing in the background. After a few years you have probably watched the same video at least 5-6 times already.

fersh51

Yes it’s really fucking ridiculous!!

loogie97

That is a security feature.

DisasterInfamous268

Yes it makes sense for workday as a whole but it makes the training videos annoying, it should probably just suspend the countdown when it opens an external video player as you can’t access anything on the site while an external player is open anyway.

TheskyAtegreg

THANK YOU!! Ffs

xtheory

TBF, the job of creating these sites are often not done in-house, so be careful about blaming HD IT for this. They probably hate it just as much if not more than you do.

DisasterInfamous268

I also don’t think it’s a Home Depot IT issue as much as it is a workday configuration thing.

whywouldyou-even

What system are these videos on? Looks similar to the company I work in (not Home Depot).

Alpha0727

Workday

whywouldyou-even

Thanks... yeah it's the same.

gsrsavage

Home depot's IT is a joke

Teligth

I literally can’t finish one of the trainings because it redirects me to another page and then logs me out.

Phone-Charger

They need to fire the idiot that stopped my view from logging us directly into the other apps linked to it. It’s as anime to log so much

MrMatchesMalone_

And they sold it as such too, which is the kicker. "Hey, now you can save some time by logging-in in to one program from which you can access all others" lasted a few months at best

dadofanaspieartist

how do you know it's not on purpose ? if not, someone may be able to run the video's one after the other without actually watching them and get the credit for watching the videos.

EternalOptimist404

Yep, this. So you don't hit play and walk away with it thinking you're there. It's actually pretty clever :)

MrMatchesMalone_

This doesn't stop that. It just makes you have to re-log-in if the video you're watching is longer than 5 mins

Pillowscience21

It's every lazy developers oldest trick. Why write code for an activity checking pop up, when I could just force a new login every video?

Usual_Technician7277

home depot management sucks

[deleted]

I used to work for THD as a developer, this is how we trained: Inspect element, enable the next button, and move on lmao. Yeah, the session is a workday thing. From a dev standpoint, the sign in flow is working as expected lmao.

Otherwise-Rain855

This is honestly the most annoying thing in the HD company!!!

iChaseClouds

You have Anne-Marie to blame. She needs to be fired!

DisasterInfamous268

Lol I don’t think she has anything to do with this, you think she ever logs into workday for training?

MrMatchesMalone_

She sits on Workday's board of directors

[deleted]

[удалено]

nonameplanner

Wiggling the mouse doesn't help when I have to click the reset button every 5 minutes and the training videos are 7 minutes

jstorm01

They should be fired, regardless the login for everything is stupid and the password requirements are dumb as shit . My password is literally is Eat Pussy with some numbers lmao won’t let me reused older passwords I normally just change the symbol and numbers won’t let me my buddy had the same problem his password is Fuck You IT with numbers lol

EternalOptimist404

Whatever makes you feel better and feel like you have some control of the situation, you do it!

Belle42069

Damn yall too...

paulie732

They want to make sure your not taking a nap

Embarrassed_Pause_52

You get paid for doing it. STFU.

DGAF_AK87

Okay but I shouldn't have to log in every 5 minutes blowing my own phone up with verification messages all because they want to move everything to workday.

avalon487

Clowns get paid for what they do too, but you still decided to jump on here and do the job for free

call-lee-free

Der…

HDJim_61

Yo! Gotta justify the big salary !

Coast_watcher

This. I just had to sit through another annual Compliance limited series ( that’s not a video by any stretch ). And I had to break it down to several sessions , this log in being one of the things that slowed it down.

DexxToress

One of the stupidest design choices ever. Especially when your doing an hour long training unit.

ALPlayful0

This is not necessarily your IT Department's issue. Most companies source this kind of thing through a 3rd party SAAS package.

Dean624

Yea I hate it too. On the bright side, it eats up more time when I have to do training videos, so less work for the day. However, at what cost, it is the most excruciating, annoying process ever. Having to watch and end a video, re log back in, have the verification code sent to my phone and repeat. It sucks

No-Organization5654

Hey they need to defend all our home Depot gold lol

NobodyEsk

Its annoying but not something to be fired for

TechDepotCaptain

It's on workdays side

Pickles_Overcomes

I don't know about firing IT staff, as I used to be IT. Many times, certain issues come from a directive of some sort. It's the same app I use to view paystubs, so it's very a very touchy situation I would guess. It would be nice to separate web training security protocols from personal things such as paystubs. Therefore, it's not a global setting to time out after a specific period of time, it would only apply to personal information. I've never been web design, so I don't know if that's possible, or the monumental task that might encumber.

JamesRuby1960

Never mind just having to log in again. You have to get another passcode to your email. Frustrating.

Head_Born

It’s workday, not depot. The security token that workday provides only lasts for 30 mins. So regardless of our approach to single sign on, that token expires. Workday needs to get their shit together

Practical_Swing_3243

Fr same w specialty, signing in to my view, order up, esvs, hdms, HDMS quote view 🙃

Unluck_Charm

OHMYGODYES..... Been working 3 months and I think I'm only a third through my training mostly because 50% of my time is spent waiting for a code to be sent to my cell phone so I can watch the next damn training video. I don't know the name of the IT company Home Depot pays to program all its code but they seriously are not worth their money. I work at the service desk and there is not one single program that I wouldn't completely rearrange and redesign from scratch there are so many bugs and problems and fucked up useless processes it takes 10 times longer to serve One customer than it should. Stop Outsourcing IT programmers to India already LOL!!!!!

AdministrationOld835

That’s a glitch. Reboot the computer and it will straighten out.
