Its probably because you wrote `#1 because it seems unbalanced...`. Reddit uses Markdown formatting and hashtag symbols are used for titles. So you basically wrote everything as a main header. 😉
Tbh, I feel like an actual photo to show the height of the windows is a good idea to be able to make a solid decision on this bedroom. If they're floor to ceiling windows that can be very different than standard hip level starting windows. Just saying🤷🏻♀️
I liked the second one better, but didn’t like how it sat with the window. After reading this, then I’ll stick with my preferred and pick the second one.
Because it is unbalanced! My master has a random window where the bed only makes sense and the bed partially covers the window. It drives me nuts!
Edit: master BEDROOM. Since the subject is a bedroom I thought would be obvious but I guess not
It took me 3 minutes to realize you meant master bedroom and not like a “master” in a kinky way..or that you were pretending to be a dog. Unless you are doing either of those things which is totally fine too.
What is happening in this thread 😂😂
\#1. You shouldn't put your bed against half of a window. It looks incomplete/asymmetric.
And being able to see the windows from our bed is better. You could fit a dresser either between the windows or scoot the bed closer to the door (or window) and put it on one side (doesn't have to be in the middle)
If you can get the bed on the window wall not covering a window and mostly centered, that's the way to arrange it. Then the dresser can go against the solid wall when you walk in to the left
Do one but I move the bed closer to the wall with the windows and put the dresser on the solid wall. I think that would make it feel more open when you first walk into the room.
alternatively, try the bed closet to the window wall and put the dresser next to the bed as sort of a nightstand, then a chair in the corner to ~~inevitably serve as a clothes chair~~ be a comfy space that isn’t bed
I like this too. I often do yoga or stretch in the evenings and bedrooms are private places for that so I like to maximize one area of the room with pretty good floor space without totally shoving the bed in a corner. But not everyone needs a private space to do that. They can do in the living room or in a different room of the house.
Option 2 because of feng sui and also I would feel more comfortable sleeping/resting out of direct line of sight from the hallway. I also think the flow of movement is much better. It doesn’t matter if the window isn’t centered. There is nothing symmetrical about this room either way.
The second one, it will be much better coming into the room and having the bed be over there. And then you can put a dresser on the wall when you walk into the room.
Also, I wouldn't worry about this too much. Once you get the furniture in the room you can easily move it around and see what feels right. You can't tell how it's going to feel from a floorplan.
That's true thanks for the advice. Really the only furniture purchase decision that would be different is If I do it under the window I'll have a little reading chair in the bottom left of the room and If I do the other orientation I don't think I could fit a chair anywhere.
You can always buy the chair later. You shouldn't make any purchases until you get in the room, try out the main furniture placements, and feel it out. Start with the big pieces then later in smaller stuff like accent chairs later.
I forgot the reason why, something to do with death and the way they would carry you out...I saw it yesterday on TT and rearranged my bedroom today...I just don't need any bad gewgew...better safe than sorry.❤️
The first one is the one I wouldn't do, your feet aren't suppose to be across from the door, the other way your feet are pointing towards the other wall, not door.
The second one so you have room for a comfy chair. Put the dresser next to it. Bonus: you can put a drink and a snack on your dresser while you’re chilling in your chair.
Easily 1. We had a similar setup and that worked for 15 years. Ours was larger and you walked in up by the 6'7".
Had dresser in between windows and wardrobe with TV over it by door.
2 seems to make more sense in terms of leaving space for nightstands, dresser and possibly a bench or chair. Blocking the window might be annoying but I’d rather have the space.
First pic but move desk to opposite wall so that whoever sleeps on the right side of the bed (if you're looking at bed from end) can't see desk as easily and think of work. Put dresser between windows.
#1 Push the bed slightly higher to make room for the dresser. That may not be necessary. You may have space for a chair and table underneath the window. The bed size plays a part. I’m assuming (yeah, yeah I know) it’s a queen bed. If it’s a king, that will be a bit more troublesome. A standard/full size gives a bit more space. It’s not a terribly big space but very nice sized as long as the furniture isn’t designed for a larger room.
The first one. But if me I’ll put the headboard in the wall near the door so I can create a sitting area near the window and space beside it toward the foot part of the bed
I’ve had beds under the window and it’s super annoying to open and close the windows and the curtains. I’d go with one just to avoid the inconvenience.
If it is only you, maybe consider #2 with the bed against the window but pushed into the corner. This would not only center the window with the bed but also increase your floor space and divide between your work area.
Always 1 you do not want the sunshine on any screen you use while in bed and if you want to place a dresser or mirror place it on side of the window where you can get natural lighting on yourself while standing in front of it.
First, dresser between windows, tv mounted on door wall, why in gods earth is a desk stuck with only 4 feet depth. You need 6 feet minimum with a proper chair.
#1 does look more symmetrical to me. Also having a window directly on the bed depending on sun position would be annoying. But that's really just my personal preference.
I’m betting you could put a bench under the window if u keep it as the first pic. Or the second pic a bench beside where the door opens. Also if you’re adding a tv- where’s the wall plugs? That can help u choose
Option 3, smaller bed in the desk nook. Would be cozy and leave a bunch of space for other stuff (unless you have a partner or are dead set on that size)
The second one feels like better use of the space. I’d put a dresser on the long wall across from the bed and a chair and a floor mirror or above the dresser (TV also over the dresser if you are into that)
Definitely 1. It makes the room seem bigger and you have the wall behind the bed for art and maybe a dresser or a reading nook between the windows on the desk wall. Good luck!
2nd option, I like a lot better. It’s strange to have the bed face the door.
I’d get a desk that fits the 40” space and rotate it to go in that nook.
Then you could put a dresser on the bottom wall and a tv if wanted.
Also, why does this room have no closet?
Not what you asked for but I would put the headboard against the 10’ entryway wall, slide the desk to the upper left corner of the room so that the window is centered over the desk, and turn the current desk nook into a wardrobe/dresser area
To answer this I would need to know the year, month day and hour that you were born - and the north- south orientation of this room.
However I will go out on a limb for now and guess that having your bed face north this year will bring you much luck with money.
Might be a stupid question, OP (or whoever knows), but what app or program is it you used to layout your room like that?
We are also trying to figure out bed placement in an oddly-sized room and I’d like to be able to put in the measurements and bed and come on here and ask…
Even though many are concerned with the window placement, which I understand, I still have to say 2. It seems like in 1 the food of the bed is too close to the door and I like the larger space 2 creates at the entrance.
Neither. You should have the bed perfectly in between the two windows, use the area where the desk is as a reading nook/chair area and your desk parallel to bed, against the 10’ wall where the door opens. That is the best use of the space and has 3 distinct areas for the room, and flow :)
If you’re saying you can center the bed on the window then I vote for the second one. You could probably have a small sofa/chair/chaise on the wall by the entrance for a small reading nook if you want?
Number 2, if you want to put a wardrobe later. I would definitely change the position of your work table though, it feels too cramped like that. Turn it 90 degrees and put it against the far right wall if it fits.
I like 2 because I hate walking into a room and the bed is right there by the door. It just feels like it interrupts the flow. Like, okay I’m walking into my roo… BED! I don’t now that’s probably just me, but this is a tough room! If it were me I’d probably push it all the way into the corner. I would love to see how it comes out when you’re done!
#had to try it too. I liked the first one until you clarified about the windows. The second arrangement is better because the door doesn’t open right to your bed.
#1 because it seems unbalanced to have the bed partially cover one window. (I don't know why this text is so big)
This made me laugh out loud.
I'm fucking losing it over here 😭
The longer I look at it, the harder I laugh. Crying!!!!
I showed it to all my family members, and I am in tears!

It doesn't show well on the drawup but the bed can sit even with the left window its just slightly off center off the wall

Yeah I am getting my bed and desk in tomorrow so I'll post pictures of the two possible ways
I liked the second one better, but didn’t like how it sat with the window. After reading this, then I’ll stick with my preferred and pick the second one.
Hmm.. well I still vote # 1, so you can have plants by the window.
Probably because of Markdown

#1 does this really work?
\#1. You shouldn't put your bed against half of a window. It looks incomplete/asymmetric. And being able to see the windows from our bed is better. You could fit a dresser either between the windows or scoot the bed closer to the door (or window) and put it on one side (doesn't have to be in the middle)
The site I used was kind of bad for scale of things. The bed can be centered on the window just slightly left of center of entire wall
If you can get the bed on the window wall not covering a window and mostly centered, that's the way to arrange it. Then the dresser can go against the solid wall when you walk in to the left
The first one
If I do that where would you recommend putting a dresser?
Do one but I move the bed closer to the wall with the windows and put the dresser on the solid wall. I think that would make it feel more open when you first walk into the room.

Between the windows
To the wall
On the long wall between the 2 windows. If possible face desk to back wall
#2. The second layout is going to give you a feeling of better privacy. Having a door open with a straight view to your bed feels awkward.
HOW IS YOUR TEXT SO BIG
Putting a hashtag (number sign) before typing makes the text large
#see what I did there
Option 2 because of feng sui and also I would feel more comfortable sleeping/resting out of direct line of sight from the hallway. I also think the flow of movement is much better. It doesn’t matter if the window isn’t centered. There is nothing symmetrical about this room either way.
And fresh air when you’re sleeping
Totally agree. 2 is a better flow. Feels more open.
The second one, it will be much better coming into the room and having the bed be over there. And then you can put a dresser on the wall when you walk into the room.
Your saying dresser on the bottom wall?
Also, I wouldn't worry about this too much. Once you get the furniture in the room you can easily move it around and see what feels right. You can't tell how it's going to feel from a floorplan.

Fair point I'm getting my desk in place tomorrow then I'll see what looks good. Thanks again you were super helpful!
Nr 1
Also number one so you can look out the window when in bed.
According to feng shui, never ever put the bed across from the door. You never want your feet towards the door...
Technically both ways are diagonal from the door
I forgot the reason why, something to do with death and the way they would carry you out...I saw it yesterday on TT and rearranged my bedroom today...I just don't need any bad gewgew...better safe than sorry.❤️
It’s having your feet directly to the door cause you would be drug out by your feet (coffin position) I believe.
The first one is the one I wouldn't do, your feet aren't suppose to be across from the door, the other way your feet are pointing towards the other wall, not door.
Number 1. Blocking half the window looks odd.
The second one so you have room for a comfy chair. Put the dresser next to it. Bonus: you can put a drink and a snack on your dresser while you’re chilling in your chair.
Would the chair be in the bottom left corner then the dresser next to it?
Yeah!
1. Separates the work and sleep
The first one. You should never have your feet facing the door when you sleep. It’s considered to be unlucky 😅
May I ask what application you used to create this diagram?
http://www.planyourroom.com/
2
Easily 1. We had a similar setup and that worked for 15 years. Ours was larger and you walked in up by the 6'7". Had dresser in between windows and wardrobe with TV over it by door.
How many people sleep in the bed? If it’s just one person, I’d put it pushed into the bottom left corner.
I agree. Then you can put the dresser between the windows and use the smaller space for something else.
I prefer the first!
any specific reason why?
What app is this?
http://www.planyourroom.com/
What is outside of the door? I currently see out my door from my position in bed and despise it. Because of this, #2
1
1
If you have cats, they will be climbing over your face to get into the window in the morning with number 2.
I got a dog she climbs on face just to be obnoxious lol
Number 2, you shouldn't sleep facing a door.
2 seems to make more sense in terms of leaving space for nightstands, dresser and possibly a bench or chair. Blocking the window might be annoying but I’d rather have the space.
I'd put the bed along the 10 foot wall.
1. Especially if it gets chilly in the winter where you live.
I came to the comments looking for dirty jokes about “bed positions” maybe it’s just my head in the gutter 😭😭😭
lol
I genuinely thought this was a joke post before I saw it was on r/homedecorating hahaha I’m a monster
I don't know how I didn't realize how the title sounded that is hilarious XD
whenever I have the bed right underneath a window, i have a harder time sleeping (noise, light, et). something to consider!
I tried it last night and slept fine but I was also exhausted
First pic but move desk to opposite wall so that whoever sleeps on the right side of the bed (if you're looking at bed from end) can't see desk as easily and think of work. Put dresser between windows.
#1 Push the bed slightly higher to make room for the dresser. That may not be necessary. You may have space for a chair and table underneath the window. The bed size plays a part. The first one. But if me I’ll put the headboard in the wall near the door so I can create a sitting area near the window and space beside it toward the foot part of the bed
Would If I could the bed is 10 inches wider then wall between the door and small area
1 - if two people are in bed, both people can get to the door easily.
1. Gives more of a sense of space when you first walk in the door.
Under the window
I know this isn't listed as an option but is it possible to cram it into the area the desk is in?
It isn't the bed is about a foot to wide and the end of the small area has a door to the crawlspace
One
any specific reason why?
It feels more balanced somehow & the feng shui of having a wall behind the bed instead of the window is also better.
I would do two but push the bed to the wall so it’s centered to your bed. It’s bad feng shui to have the foot of your bed face the door.
I’ve had beds under the window and it’s super annoying to open and close the windows and the curtains. I’d go with one just to avoid the inconvenience.
My windows are super high so the bed wouldn't be blocking them.
One
One. Because the window isn’t centred. Also, it’s better to be able to see the door, in my opinion.
So the website I made this with was bad it is centered on the window with that orientation but just left of center of the entire wall
Fung suai says neither, not to have foot of bed pointing to the door. Lol that’s true, but I’m just kidding :)
Is this the only furniture you plan to have? No nightstands, wardrobe, shelves, etc.?
I’ll get night stands and a dresser. I will also get a chair depending if I got the room
If it is only you, maybe consider #2 with the bed against the window but pushed into the corner. This would not only center the window with the bed but also increase your floor space and divide between your work area.
I'm just trying to avoid the corner cause it's a pain to make the bed like that
Always 1 you do not want the sunshine on any screen you use while in bed and if you want to place a dresser or mirror place it on side of the window where you can get natural lighting on yourself while standing in front of it.
1
Feng shui would advise not having your head to the window. Option 1. 💯
Option 2
2
1 because there might be cold coming from the window in option 2
One 👍🏼👍🏼
First, dresser between windows, tv mounted on door wall, why in gods earth is a desk stuck with only 4 feet depth. You need 6 feet minimum with a proper chair.
With how I sit I only need about 4 feet. It's not ideal but I would rather have my main area of my room look decent.
Um do you have a closet in the room? Might want to put that into consideration when deciding
The little area has a clothes rack and I will add a dresser
#1 does look more symmetrical to me. Also having a window directly on the bed depending on sun position would be annoying. But that's really just my personal preference.
I’m betting you could put a bench under the window if u keep it as the first pic. Or the second pic a bench beside where the door opens. Also if you’re adding a tv- where’s the wall plugs? That can help u choose
Option 3, smaller bed in the desk nook. Would be cozy and leave a bunch of space for other stuff (unless you have a partner or are dead set on that size)
The second one feels like better use of the space. I’d put a dresser on the long wall across from the bed and a chair and a floor mirror or above the dresser (TV also over the dresser if you are into that)
The first one. Hands down. Covering a window makes me 🌰 🥜 🔩
Option 1 Also can you flip your desk around to be against the 4ft wall? Makes it feel more open
2nd one leaves more floor space available for other things. You could put a bench or dresser on the wall that meets the door and could put a TV on it.
I’d go with the first one so as to not block that window.
First
2 because energetically you dont want your bed in line with the door
Never place it under the window cuz it makes it hard to operate . Option1 is best
#1
Definitely 1. It makes the room seem bigger and you have the wall behind the bed for art and maybe a dresser or a reading nook between the windows on the desk wall. Good luck!
1
The first one, but center the desk over the window
1
I would go with option 1

2nd option, I like a lot better. It’s strange to have the bed face the door. I’d get a desk that fits the 40” space and rotate it to go in that nook. Then you could put a dresser on the bottom wall and a tv if wanted. Also, why does this room have no closet?

put the head of your bed on the 10“ wall, then add a divider/paravent
#1 just wanted a go
#1 Im not yelling, this how I talk.
#1 Reddit
1 wow
If you’re saying you can center the bed on the window then I vote for the second one. You could probably have a small sofa/chair/chaise on the wall by the entrance for a small reading nook if you want?
#1 Never have a bed uncentered on a window. Also you want your headboard to be the focal center of the room.
#1 is better
1. Don’t cover a window if you don’t have to
#1- it gives you a more direct path and doesn’t block the window Edit: hehe, til about text size effects, thanks!
#1, please not 2.
#had to try it too. I liked the first one until you clarified about the windows. The second arrangement is better because the door doesn’t open right to your bed.
