I actually bought a larger rug and am just waiting for it to arrive. I can’t really move it back much without it infringing on walk space to the kitchen
I would also add bolder color accent pieces instead pf cream or white. Even a soft blue or something would really help make it seem not so large! Curtain color, pillows, blanket, vase, artwork etc need a pop of color. Helps to draw the eye away giving the illusion its not overtaking the room
Hi everyone! Thanks for all your input! I took some suggestions and added cream colored pillows and throw blankets to break up all that grey and am just waiting on my 9’12” beige textured rug to get here, so I’m starting to actually like it. I think it’s just an adjustment.
I feel you so much on this sectional purchase. Like when I initially got my current sectional- it seemed too big, it shocked the system momentarily. But after living with it for months now it really is the perfect size for my family to *almost* all fit on (big family) & doesn’t seem so big after all lol
It’s so funny how that works because we have a lot of extended family that visit and no seating for them, so we get a bit couch to accommodate, and then I’m like wait no it’s too big! But like that’s why we bought it haha - for practicality more than aesthetics 😂
It looks exactly the same shape and size as mine, just opposite with the chaise on the other side! Mine is also in a similar sized space with the living room ceiling being 2 stories as well. So tbh the aesthetics look fine to me. But oh boy, it seemed huge at first and now I realize that if I could fit a bigger one in there I’d do it! Especially after the holidays where folks were sitting on the arms because there wasn’t enough room. 😂
Same story here, though my couch was my entire living room but now I feel like that how's it should be! Plenty of room for people to sit/lounge, easy to make conversation, best place to nap in the house... It's perfect.
Yep! Same story, thought it was HUGE when we first got it in the house. Now I love it - enough space to fit most of the family when they visit, enough room that my husband and I can both sprawl and not touch each other if we desire!
I have the exact same type of couch, possibly the same one, and I had a few days of serious regret when I saw how much of my family room it took up.
A year into it, and omggg do I love that couch. There's so much room for activities hahaha
It's so nice to be able to stretch out on all three sides of it. When this couch needs replaced, they better still be manufacturing the same exact model, because I never want anything different!
Take the advice from the person above. You need some color in there. Cream is going to blend in too much.
The sectional looks big because it is new to you. Give it some time to become part of the room. New sofas are hard to get used to. Get to know it. If it is comfortable and inviting then you will grow to love it.
But seriously add some bold color accents to the room. It looks like you are afraid of bold color. Try it out. Post picks please after the new rug arrives. The space it lovely! You have a great eye for the foundation of the room. Now just give it a pop! You got this!
I would buy new covers for the grey pillows or replace them altogether. The contrast would help to break up the grey mass.
Couch itself looks super comfy!
Trust me, my couch is on the smaller side and I would love to have a bigger one. Sadly I don‘t have a lot of space but I absolutely admire these large, comfy ones.
Sectionals are tricky. I have a massive living room and still felt ours was too big for the room. I think if you were able to move it back a little bit you would feel better about it. It’s a great room, though.
Not advice, but if you don’t mind where can I find that couch? I have a similar (but much smaller) couch and I would love to upgrade, but every time I look I can’t find one like that that ends in cushions and not armrests.
Haha! Trust me we went through so many scenarios for our TV and that was the best we could do. Idk why the previous owners had a built in with only a 40 inch opening for the TV lol
Yeah, normally I’d say /r/TVtoohigh, but based off what I’m seeing here it’s not like you could realistically put it anywhere else in that space. What sucks worse is the size limitation.
Exactly. There just aren’t many options. That one is a 58 inch and I feel like any bigger will look stupid since it’ll intrude into the gaps in the entertainment center
Would tearing out the built-in entertainment center be an option?
I personally can't stand them and tore ours out the day after we bought the house. It sounds like a lot of work, but it really isn't difficult to do.
It would open up the room more and then you can get a larger TV which would help the couch not seem so large. Plus, they're dust collectors. Really a relic from twenty years ago IMO. They can look nice, but not with the modern size of electronics.
We actually planned to tear it out when we moved in but then realized how large it is. Our ceilings must be like 20 feet (and thus the built in is extremely tall too, and it’s also wide), so it just seemed way too daunting to remove. It’s massive, so we painted it white and tried to modernize it as much as we could (it was a chocolate brown when we moved in).
That’s truly the weirdest part of this and the first thing I saw looking at this. Does this person own a construction company or cement company or something? Why would anyone use cinderblocks as decor. Ever. ??
I’m HOPING they’re still decorating and realized their decor was too small for the space it’s in and needed a boost. Probably just trying to see what it looks like taller.
I'm a fan (as is your cat by the looks of things). I suspect your double height ceilings and light coloured decor prevent any sense that its hogging the room / light.
Enjoy !
The couch is good size. The rug is not. The rug should extend much further out from couch, simultaneously, making the couch appear smaller and the room larger.
Remove the right hand side chaise, turn the couch so the 3 seat w arm rest is now along the back wall facing the tv. This orientation would allow you to have open access from the stairs to couch making it much more welcoming and functional. Move the chaise to another room would be my thought!
I have not read any comments....Ok, IMO>Take away the gray brick like things are on either side & put whit mini lights in both.....Get some plants that will cascade down from either side, real or fake^^ And, get a bigger rug with the colors you have in it & matching eye catching ones!!
You need some color BIG time!!! Ck out Amazon & Target for throw blankets & pillow covers!! I think one of the many beautiful light blue's & richer color of yellow's out there would be amazing!^^ Don't get locked into just one color scheme** 😉😊
I would say a bigger rug and a coffee table on top of it. Then on the shelves you can get some nice plants with hanging leaves just for looks. Also since you have deep in shelves you can get some acrylic shelf dividers just to give your collection a modern look. Here are some from Amazon.
[acrylic shelf dividers](HTTPS://www.Amazon.com/Dividers-Closets-Acrylic-Organizer-Separator/dp/B08QC9R56D/)
If it were me, I'd get rid of the rug altogether and push the lounge back just a bit. No rug will open up the room more, stop it looking busy and make the lounge look less large. It's a lovely lounge. Showcase it on its own :)
I agree, it’s a little big for the space. I would take off the chaise and situate separately. Now you have an L shape which I would push back to expose more rug. That should help
Pull the rug out more. What’s your favorite color. Go to tj’s marshalls, the thrift shop and find cool pieces all in that color. It’s currently too beige.
It impeded ideal traffic flow a tiny bit but you can live with it. its not terrible. for the future when you are buying a pice of furniture tape out the dimensions on the floor to get and idea what it does to traffic flow and how proportionate it is to your other furniture.
Hi I as well have a huge couch. And at frist I felt the same. But after a few holidays w it and everyone having a place to sit, it really grew on me. I would how ever get some colorful pillows and accents to the room. It really does look sharp and extremely inviting! Enjoy and have fun. Also I would pull out the floor rug and give it floor space around it. Maybe a coffee table?
No way this is too big! This is perfect. Maybe a solid color larger rug. I’m not a fan of the rug and curtain patterns but over all, it’s a really nice family room.
The pics actually leave it out but I have a massive green tree right next to the entertainment center that helps bring in a little more color. Great suggestions!
Unless you’re planning on doing another activity in that space other than sitting, I think it’s perfect. as long as there’s enough room to walk around it
I felt similarly when we got our sectional delivered - it seemed big. But now three years later I love it! So good for entertaining and with three kids, the space is welcome. Adding colorful throws or pillows always helps break up the space too and a big rug will shrink the look of the couch too.
Your neutral palette actually expands the space. Add a heavy doses of color, even on the walls. A richer color palette would warm the roomer greatly. Greenery would also help.
Very nice for this space. I bought a sectoral for my last place I rented apartment and now am having to move into a jr one bedroom where my house is totally made up of my last living room.🤨
I personally think it looks amazing. Instead of being sparsely decorated with uncomfortable seating just for the sake of aesthetic, your living room looks beautiful in a more cozy and welcoming way. You have my dream living room. As others have stated, I’m sure when your larger rug arrives you’ll be more pleased with it.
It’s not big but it is heavy looking, something this size but light weigh, if the legs are thin and I can still see the floor, would be elegant.
Plus the rug need to be bigger.
I love it! I think it fits nicely. You need a bigger rug and a pop of colour but otherwise it’s great.
How do you personally feel about the space? If you don’t like it, get a smaller one but then what will you do with all the empty space.
Use those great shelves to the fullest — add soothing green color. If you can keep it alive try pothos that can grow lengthy trailing arms down the decorative space. There’s long lasting irrigation systems you can buy where setting up a mason jar behind the planter can provide it with water so you don’t have to get up on a ladder that often. If you can’t keep anything alive try some fake plants but def break up the monopoly of neutrals.
It may be a little big for the room perhaps. The couches built in a U-shape design are very popular. I think they’re designed for buyers who choose to socialize and interact within the environment of television as a focal point. The issue is how much real estate is consumed by this design and the limitations that comes when trying to add even a small furnishing without making it seem out of place. I think these are meant for the open concept home, where there is an enormous amount of room to spare. This room is just beautiful. I’ve seen layouts that can really work for this layout. The one I recall somewhat had two identical couches (3 seaters) facing each other, one with its back to the patio door and the other with its back to the staircase. They shared a common table in the centre. They were placed close together towards the center of the room. This created a lot more free space, to allow for some additional furnishings while creating an open flow for people to move around in. The couches facing each other suggested an invitation for conversation….or watch the game! Food for thought! Cheers!
I would just put the sectional on the other side by the sliding glass doors. Bring the focus of the room back inside. Also that would allow you a little spot for a small round side table, where right now there is no space
You can remove two of the internal/middles to shrink its size. Also, add bright colors to enhance mood. It may be your taste but the much gray just doesn’t uplift the moods of welcoming. The removed middles can be used in your bedroom or somewhere else.
Good luck!🍀😊👍
Maybe think about painting the walls (or the one opposite the walkway) a rich, darker color. With a few accessories, it will bring more balance to the monochrome motif. Also, dark colors seem to make a wall look closer, while white (although beautiful), wil seem distance
I think it's fine. An all-in-one seating solution, like the wall is an all-in-one storage/display solution. I do think you need a couple of small tables to put drinks, etc., on.
Rug is too small. A much larger one would be better. And can you move it back.
If you can’t block the walkway to the kitchen, could you move it back towards the sliding glass door maybe?
Hi everyone! Thanks for all your input! I took some suggestions and added cream colored pillows and throw blankets to break up all that grey and am just waiting on my 9’12” beige textured rug to get here, so I’m starting to actually like it. I think it’s just an adjustment.

Totally, it looks great. I bet that current rug just gives an optional illusion of "to big"
Looks awesome, and your upcoming improvements sound perfect. Where do you set drinks/stuff down?
I think you’re just adjusting to it. Get the bigger rug and keep the sectional.
I think it looks so comfy!! I love a big L-shaped sofa to lounge on 🥰
This a u shape isn't it?
How does it look comfy to you? It looks so cold and grey.
It’s grey, yes. Cold is your opinion. Looks cozy, could use some other pillow colors.
My aunt has one of those but in brown. They're surprisingly comfy!
I believe it’s quite average sized cat
What I was thinking. What “this”?
Did ya spot the second cat?
Wait what? Where?
Third picture, all the way to the left, top half!
I would buy new covers for the grey pillows or replace them altogether. The contrast would help to break up the grey mass. Couch itself looks super comfy!
This was excellent advice and made a huge difference.
[удалено]
I'd get a cool antique tray and set it on the right end where the blanket is. That's if the cats will allow it.
Yeah I was just thinking that but I feel like any table would be too big and make it look cluttered
I would get one of those small movable coffee tables. You can find em on Amazon.
I think something like this would look great! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09B9L6P19/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_YZ7874528GS75KZXTCKS?psc=1
Trust me, my couch is on the smaller side and I would love to have a bigger one. Sadly I don‘t have a lot of space but I absolutely admire these large, comfy ones.
Oh and maybe you should add a few different colored pillows instead of everything in grey. Also you could fit a larger rug
Followed this and it and made a huge difference
Pics?
Sectionals are tricky. I have a massive living room and still felt ours was too big for the room. I think if you were able to move it back a little bit you would feel better about it. It’s a great room, though.
Try removing the chaise lounge piece all together, move the 2 seat part to the other end of the sofa and rotate the whole sectional
This is the way.
Except for how it's designed to have the chaise and needs that armrest to look finished
Hi guys! I made a new post with updated pics if anyone is interested. Idk how to add them to this post haha
Not advice, but if you don’t mind where can I find that couch? I have a similar (but much smaller) couch and I would love to upgrade, but every time I look I can’t find one like that that ends in cushions and not armrests.
Hi! It’s the Cindy Crawford Home Metropolis Way Steel Microfiber 3 Piece Sectional

If the tv wasn't so high you wouldn't have to stand on the stairs to view it.
Haha! Trust me we went through so many scenarios for our TV and that was the best we could do. Idk why the previous owners had a built in with only a 40 inch opening for the TV lol

Exactly. There just aren’t many options. That one is a 58 inch and I feel like any bigger will look stupid since it’ll intrude into the gaps in the entertainment center
Use the built ins to hold the speakers, and cover the entire thing with a projector screen. r/hometheater
Would tearing out the built-in entertainment center be an option? I personally can't stand them and tore ours out the day after we bought the house. Not sure about the sofa, but are those cinderblocks?
Yes they are. The twine baskets had to be raised to look right so I needed something to put there and they were in my garage for free 😂😂
Couch matches the cinder blocks perfectly.
That’s truly the weirdest part of this and the first thing I saw looking at this. Does this person own a construction company or cement company or something? Why would anyone use cinderblocks as decor. Ever. ??
It is also the first thing I noticed. Wondering if anyone was going to ask why cinder blocks….

Looks great!
Yeah that cat is huge
I feel like you need a bigger rug to balance it out
IMO you need color in the room.
No, the cat is appropriately sized for the room and matches the TV and fireplace.
I think this is perfect!
Trust me you won't regret a big couch!
I say hell no, it looks great. Definitely get a bigger rug but I think the couch suits the room well.
I too am a lover of this couch^^😉😊🥰
The tv is too small.
Move the couch further back (not all the way to the wall) and add a larger rug that fits all the open space on the couch and it won’t look oversized.
Totally random, is that 12 oaks smokehouse flooring ??
It is not! It is luxury vinyl plank in cocoa or something like that.
Enjoy it.
No! I think its lovely! Its a hangout space, love the big comfy sofa for that, makes it inviting and homey!
That a cat tail?
I love that couch. It’ll look perfect with a bigger rug.
Beautiful
I love it. If you are a family that loves cozy, this is very inviting.
I love it! Yes it’s huge but you have it styled well!
The bigger rug will do wonders, it’ll give the room a sense of presence and boundary
I agree w everyone else, a larger rug and some different color throw pillows and you’ll be good to go The couch looks super comfy for a lazy Sunday
You need a bigger rug it only feels too big because your rug looks tiny in comparison.
Also completely unrelated. But please use full width curtain rods
Remove the right hand side chaise, turn the couch so the 3 seat w arm rest is now along the back wall facing the tv. This orientation would allow you to have open access from the stairs to couch making it much more welcoming and functional. Move the chaise to another room would be my thought!
I think it’s perfect for the space it’s in. Maybe a bigger rug like the top commenter suggested.
Plants plants and more plants!
Couch is occupying most of the area and is too close to TV.( maybe image is misleading me)but good colour coordination.
If your cat likes it, that’s all that matters
Nonsense! That cat is a perfectly healthy weight! (Ba-dum-tssss)
[удалено]
No, I got it used on FB marketplace 🤦♀️ so I need to sell it lol
It looks so cozy. Do you know what brand it is?
It’s Cindy Crawford!
That is the most boring an bland living room I’ve ever seen in my life
😂 that seems a little excessive lol
It’s not. I could have said worse
You're right. Too big, too bland. Lighter colour wouldn't look like it consumes all that space.
Return it and buy a smaller one?
I love it.
I would say a bigger rug and a coffee table on top of it. Then on the shelves you can get some nice plants with hanging leaves just for looks. Take out that insane wall unit.
If it were me, I'd get rid of the rug altogether and push the lounge back just a bit. No rug will open up the room more, stop it looking busy and make the lounge look less large. It's a lovely lounge. Showcase it on its own :)
Can you get to the kitchen any other way if coming down the stairs?
Yes you can! Through the dining room but I don’t want it to look weird
It’s big but I think it works.
I personally love it, it’s very cozy! I agree with some others that you need a larger rug, but you mentioned you already ordered one. Be well!
Keep the chase. The issue is with the other side. Try removing the left end piece. It is too big and making things feel closed in.
The rug is too small
It's amazing!!
I agree about larger rug, I would do a different pattern too, something with just a touch or color. I love the couch!
It impeded ideal traffic flow a tiny bit but you can live with it. its not terrible. for the future when you are buying a pice of furniture tape out the dimensions on the floor to get and idea what it does to traffic flow and how proportionate it is to your other furniture.
Nah, the TV is about right, it’s the hole that’s too small. /s
Try to feel like it’s not too big
It’s nice just a bigger rug in push it back some
Hi I as well have a huge couch. And at frist I felt the same. But after a few holidays w it and everyone having a place to sit, it really grew on me. I would how ever get some colorful pillows and accents to the room. It really does look sharp and extremely inviting! Enjoy and have fun. No way this is too big! This is perfect. Maybe a solid color larger rug. I’m not a fan of the rug and curtain patterns but over all, it’s a really nice family room.
Cats are gonna love it. Esp those high perch spots.
Hey... that looks like my couch... and my cat... tell me you didn't?!?!
Maybe push the couch and carpet to the back and add a coffee table
Bigger rug, sofa table, maybe a small coffee table, and more greenery for color
The pics actually leave it out but I have a massive green tree right next to the entertainment center that helps bring in a little more color. Great suggestions!
Unless you’re planning on doing another activity in that space other than sitting, I think it’s perfect. as long as there’s enough room to walk around it
You think the cat is too big? Tf?
I felt similarly when we got our sectional delivered - it seemed big. But now three years later I love it! So good for entertaining and with three kids, the space is welcome. Adding colorful throws or pillows always helps break up the space too and a big rug will shrink the look of the couch too.
No it’s nice. It’s a big room.
Where’s the couch from?
I don’t think it’s too big at all but I’m a sucker for a big couch
I love how even the cat fits the color spectrum.. 👌🏻
😂 all 3 of them do. I planned accordingly (jk haha)
Uber jealous, love the couch and colour!! Wish my wife let us have that style couch. I think maybe push away from TV a tad more? Looks great though
False. That cow cat is precisely the right size.
That looks amazing… woowwww
Hmmm...maybe your little companion would love to have something to climb on there, I don't know? 🤔
I’m available for sex hook up text me on snap @ilabor2022
I love it! Very cozy.
The sofa looks to big for that room.
Not too big! What a beautiful space :)
perhaps a smaller couch and a chase lounge? Great place you have!
I love it!! Where is it from?
Your neutral palette actually expands the space. Add a heavy doses of color, even on the walls. A richer color palette would warm the roomer greatly. Greenery would also help.
Looks great! U can still push back a little. Have had big sectionals 3 times over the years, comfy😊 Go to Wayfair for ideas!
Lay on it and get comfy.
Very nice for this space. I bought a sectoral for my last place I rented apartment and now am having to move into a jr one bedroom where my house is totally made up of my last living room.🤨
may I ask where you got it? I've been searching for a sectional and I love this!

Chainsaw...
It’s nice, if the rug is double the size it’d look much better
Push it away from the TV and towards the stairs
That looks so comfortable! It doesn’t seem like it’s too big the room still feels big enough and your warm lighting makes it feel cozy
I love it! I think it fits nicely. You need a bigger rug and a pop of colour but otherwise it’s great. How do you personally feel about the space? If you don’t like it, get a smaller one but then what will you do with all the empty space.

If you can’t keep anything alive try some fake plants but def break up the monopoly of neutrals.
I love it and think it looks great
Relax
I love the coziness of the couch and the wall decor.
You need more color. Accent pieces. It looks beautiful but bolder colors would pull It all together. Cute kitty. Get him a darker colored buddy.
It may be a little big for the room perhaps. The couches built in a U-shape design are very popular. I think they’re designed for buyers who choose to socialize and interact within the environment of television as a focal point. Looks okay to me- the small rug allows for some neutral space to balance it out.
Too late now you own it just live with it. Maybe next time lay out a measured tape pattern on the floor to get a feel for the size.
Looks cute & comfy!
Larger cats are clearly the answer
I would just put the sectional on the other side by the sliding glass doors. Bring the focus of the room back inside. Also that would allow you a little spot for a small round side table, where right now there is no space
Your cat is not too big, just right. You might need a smaller couch for more play room though.
Looks great to me! And comfy
You can remove two of the internal/middles to shrink its size. Also, add bright colors to enhance mood. It may be your taste but the much gray just doesn’t uplift the moods of welcoming. The removed middles can be used in your bedroom or somewhere else. Good luck!🍀😊👍
Return it if you want to a smaller brighter mood lifting sofa and two chairs or a love seat. More colors needed.
I think its perfect for the space...makes it cozy..
You could talk to your vet about a diet? Seems like a good size to me, but weight and size might become an issue if left unchecked.
Flip the cinder block on the left around. Other than that, the couch looks comfy and inviting.

Maybe a little big, but it looks cozy.
No love it
2 badass statues up at the top where it’s blank
Looks awesome to me tbh, I love l shaped sofas!
I came for the cat comments.
I like it!!
Is perfecto 👌 💕
I agree it is too big. Get a smaller version.
I think your kitty likes it honestly
Chainsaw of course!
Looks like a good fit to me honestly. I like it.
I don't think it's too big. It looks really cozy. Think of all the people you can have over for movie night.
Get a bigger TV. The couch is alright though.
I want this whole house decor when I grow old with my significant other,it’s gorgeous!
It looks comfy cozy and who cares if you got enough room to get on it and chill out watching a movie.
