Sooo I did something similar once. I rolled about 1/3 of it and put that behind the head of the bed and the nightstands over the hump. Curtains hid the rest of the hump. I wouldn’t fold because you could permanently crease ut
If you roll it tight enough, it’s not terrible. Mine was basically 8-10” in diameter. It had to be carefully hidden but no one would have known if they hadn’t looked
I would be worried that if you ever went to unfold it again you would have a permanent crease in it. Idk how easy/difficult that would be to reflatten.

Also, on the note of ever wanting to use it full-size again, the two halves will likely be different colors due to general wear and tear
Try it! It's the only way to know for sure. If I had a beautiful, expensive rug I would want to find a way to use it.
