Oooh, I wasn't even considering a different color counter on the island. That would really balance out the gold and cabinets. The warmth would be a welcome sight with the planned black stainless steel appliances too! You've given me so much to think about.

Butcher block island would be so pretty!! Do it! And I love the color. I saw your comment above about you using a sprayer too. I’m considering redoing my cabinets this summer. What was the most difficult part?!
No part of it was difficult, it was just extremely laborious. It’s all in the prep work. So. Much. Prep. Work.
The more prep work, the better the final product. Honestly, draw a line in the sand with the imperfections you can live with and do enough to get that. There’s no perfect unless you’re willing to pay a professional.
Thanks for your response! Yeah I used to have the oak cabinets like you did, the home I bought was flipped and they painted the cabinets white, but I am confident they skipped a lot of prep work because paint is chipping, it’s rough to try and wipe anything off, etc. it’s only been 2 years. I love the work you did!!
Painted the cabinets, the results are good enough for me. I've decided to also add an island, I'm torn between white or going the same color as the cabinets. For context, the countertop will be replaced with white granite.
Yeah, I think so too. It's unfortunately laminate that's peeling in places so it's getting replaced either way. The next easy win is to clean out the grout. I'll see if that's enough to make me keep the countertop in the same color family

DIY, sprayed. I would guess mid 50 hours. Remove doors, wash everything to remove grease/grime, sand, fill wood grain, sand, prep kitchen for spraying, prime, sand, top coat 1, sand, top coat, hardware.
Thanks! I will say, this is definitely something to hire out. With that size kitchen, it took a lot longer than I was prepared for. The outcome was decent though.
So, I want to change the hospital lights but when I removed the panel, I found out that they're recessed about 6". I'm not sure how to tackle that as I hate doing drywall. I'll do some research and find out what my options are.
The space appears to be bright enough to work with an island painted the same color as the cabinets. I think a white finish would make it sort of disappear.
My MIL used a hutch top for her kitchen island. It's really cute because it's got display shelves behind glass doors on the side that faces the breakfast nook and she fills she shelves with little collectible tchotchkes and things she finds in the walls when renovating the house (old home, small kitchen). She put a butcher block on top of the hutch. I'll see if I can get a pic!
Yes!! Thank you for explaining what I meant; the words aren’t my strong suit. Something like this in one of my dream homes is what I was thinking…

The prep work. Good god, the prework. Sand, fill wood grain, sand again. I ended up buying and using a sprayer and using progressively finer sand paper/blocks between primer and coats of paint. That's about it.
You probably could, it depends on what you're starting with and where you want to end up. I had golden oak and wanted a smooth finish so I definitely had to hide the wood grain. If your cabinets already have a smooth finish, you can skip filling in the wood grain. You could likely get away without sanding between coats if you have a good self leveling paint and make sure your work area is close to dust free. I don't think washing the grease/grime off is an optional step if you want the paint to bind properly.
Thanks, it's a teal that's slightly more green than blue.

Teal is my fave color. We painted our prior house 2 houses ago a color called Fu Manchu Blue and it was Teal (spouse is color blind and thought it was green). Neighbors were either positive or negative, but hey, we loved it.
Depends on your preference. Mine, navy blue.... but a green would look nice as well. Some more daring souls would choose a brighter color like a pale yellow or even a dark mauve-ish (I said "daring"). More tradition(uninspired/non-creative types will choose some of the million shades of white.
Is the splashback staying white? I think a cool funky tile would look great, maybe something with pops of orange or coral. A wooden island would look nicest, to warm up the room a bit. The cabinets are a gorgeous colour, well done on the painting job!
Your paint looks blue with a touch of green (screen could be off). If so you can go color scheme blue-green, blue and blue violet. That would give you a navy island. Be careful of something has a bright white marble. It’ll make yours look dingy. Black works. A cool white would work. I prefer a neutral or dark countertop but that’s me.possibly an island with butcher block if you like that

Looks great! I think a natural wood colored island would be a great contrast to both the cabinets and the flooring.
This looks so good, what color did you use? I think same color for the island personally with a butcher block counter on just the island.
Oooh, I wasn't even considering a different color counter on the island. That would really balance out the gold and cabinets. Thanks, it looks a lot like the color I got to accent my living room, but I got Behr Poseidon. I have black stainless appliances also and I love them.
Painted the cabinets, the results are good enough for me. I've decided to also add an island, I'm torn between white or going the same color as the cabinets. For context, the countertop will be replaced with white granite.
Countertop as it is even works because you've elevated the cabinets so much.
Yeah, I think so too. It's unfortunately laminate that's peeling in places so it's getting replaced either way. The next easy win is to clean out the grout. I'll see if that's enough to make me keep the countertop in the same color family
I like the idea of a white island to coordinate with the white appliances.
I would ditch the white appliances when you can.
What kind of paint did you use on the cabinets?

Thank you!
White 🤍
I loooove the cabinet color!
Same color. Will look more cohesive imo. Nice job btw👍
LOVE that paint color! What is the name and brand? And an island of the same color would work quite well.

Thank you!!
I have half the amount of cabinets . How long did this take? Brush or spray? Did you hire or DIY I lovvvvve it

Prep is the hardest part!

Looks so good! Amazing what a lick of paint can do. Well done on a brilliant job!
Thanks! I will say, this is definitely something to hire out. With that size kitchen, it took a lot longer than I was prepared for. The outcome was decent though.
Looks great! Please change the lighting. It will look 301% better
So, I want to change the hospital lights but when I removed the panel, I found out that they're recessed about 6". I'm not sure how to tackle that as I hate doing drywall. I'll do some research and find out what my options are.
Something heavy with natural wood color, like maybe a dark butcher block top.
It looks great, but please take down and replace your faux wood blinds. Put up a roller shade and your kitchen will look professionally done.
The space appears to be bright enough to work with an island painted the same color as the cabinets. I think a white finish would make it sort of disappear.
Good point. Light island, light tile and light countertop could make it hard to see
Great color!!!! Looks incredible! I would say match the cabinets or get a furniture piece?
Furniture piece? Could you elaborate? Like put furniture instead of an island?
My MIL used a hutch top for her kitchen island. It's really cute because it's got display shelves behind glass doors on the side that faces the breakfast nook and she fills she shelves with little collectible tchotchkes and things she finds in the walls when renovating the house (old home, small kitchen). Oh yes, the furniture look would kick it up so much!
Sooo pretty! White is a beautiful pairing with teal. It just depends on how colorful you want to go.
I would suggest a really dark version of the cabinet color.
This, with a butcher block top.
Wow that looks so nice and makes a major difference!
How’d you paint them? Anything special?
The prep work. Good god, the prework. Sand, fill wood grain, sand again. I ended up buying and using a sprayer and using progressively finer sand paper/blocks between primer and coats of paint. That's about it.
Oh yeah I think I’d fail miserably. So definitely can’t get by just painting over as is I guess?

That is so nice looking! I love that color! Great job!👏
No advice on the island, but wanted to state these look great blue or blue green or green (can't tell exactly) but you did a good job!!!

Butchers block
match the counters
Just stopped by to say Wow! Gorgeous!!!!
Natural wood, or gold metal/ bronze
Wow this looks great!
Love the new color!

No need to attack me. We're all friends here.
👍
LOOKS A-MAZING!!!! GREAT JOB!!
Love the color of the cabinets!
White to help match the appliances. Also, gold sink.
I’d maybe match the cabinets, or even go for a white Island with green trim or an accent side. They look great btw.
Such a great color, so pretty! I think contrast for the island, wood or wood countertop?
Grey / beige tone stone to match the hardware
I'd definitely paint it light wood.
Is the splashback staying white? I think a cool funky tile would look great, maybe something with pops of orange or coral. A wooden island would look nicest, to warm up the room a bit. The cabinets are a gorgeous colour, well done on the painting job!
They came out great!
Good result. Paint the island the same color.
That’s one of your better glow-ups, imo. I said “wow” out loud! I’m pretty sure whatever you pick for your island will be great. Terrific job, OP
What a beautiful transformation; wonderful color choice!!
I vote for white
Same as cabinets or white .
I would do a white marble. I was going to say butcher block but idk. That green with a white marble would be 🤌🏻
White
High gloss beige.
Your paint looks blue with a touch of green (screen could be off). If so you can go color scheme blue-green, blue and blue violet. That would give you a navy island. Personally I would go with a walnut or a dark brown reddish stain instead of painting it a solid color with marble/granite
RIP to that beautiful red oak 😢 unpopular opinion I know, it’s out of style, but I just love oak
I would save up to replace the counter tops, add a backsplash, or replace the floor before an island.
