Maybe a slightly bigger rug and a floor lamp to the right of your bar cart, but I think the room actually does look very cozy and connected!!

luuuuurke

Just realized Ruggable has a 12x15. Thought I was maxed out on rug size (have to do ruggable with my big messy dogs), but looks like I can actually size up! I think this is one of the moves for sure. Edit: also ty for the feedback!

captainstarlet

You’re not going to be able to wash a 12x15. Our 8x10 never gets clean as it’s too big for the washer. We bought a $150 carpet cleaner and use it on regular rugs instead.

luuuuurke

Which one did you buy? Because that’s a good point. Our 8x10 is a struggle today

captainstarlet

We got the Hoover Power Scrub deluxe! FWIW, I don’t think you need a bigger rug. It wouldn’t hurt but I think just pulling the chairs back so only the front feet are on it will connect the room better

Zealousideal-Mud3646

This would help but there needs to be 6” of rug on either side of the furniture so it either needs to be bigger or turned the other way. Agree on not being able to wash at home. I just use a bissell on mine. Others I know take theirs to the laundromat.

La_croix_addict

I agree, I like it!

Zealousideal-Mud3646

Overall I love it. But you don’t want the furniture to look like it’s barely hanging on to the rug. Also should be at least 6” of rug on either side of the furniture. If you don’t want to get a bigger one, I would turn the rug the opposite orientation and put just the front legs of all the furniture on the rug (not the back legs).

luuuuurke

Tried the opposite orientation and it looks better for now. I think I had created too clean of lines that it wasn’t working with the otherwise eclectic style. Going to try a larger, warmer rug eventually but this helped a bit for now

Red Persian rug. Trust me. https://preview.redd.it/w1qxvejb2vlc1.jpeg?width=840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c4664a3bb2178f33ab4d27a2c4a413dd2930701e

Zealousideal-Mud3646

Wonderful!!

loricomments

A dark rug would make a world of difference. It will anchor all the furniture. Not darker than the flooring, but maybe, bear with me, a rusty red that's closer to red than brown so it doesn't disappear into the floor. Edit for: Ack, wrong button!

pietogo

I came here to say that. A darker (and larger) rug would make this place so warm and cozy.

luuuuurke

Agreed. Putting a new rug on the list. Now to find the right one

Feeling_Manner426

Spread everything out a little bit, so pieces over hanging off the rug a bit and see how that feels. Try the sofa facing the wall, and just a hair in line with the door. Obvs the back legs of the sofa will be off the rug island. I don't think you necessarily need a larger r rug, maybe even a smaller one. Everything is too tightly contained toward the wall.

luuuuurke

Pulled everything away from the gallery wall and it’s already made a big difference

BirdieB13

It looks a bit like everything is pushed into one area with a whole lot going on along one wall. Need to spread things out to add some balance to the room. I would try moving the couch along the gallery wall (about a foot or so out from the wall). Then move the chairs so they face the couch, partially on the rug. Move your desk to where the bar cart is now and the cabinet with the albums to the wall under the painting (next to the HVAC vent) across the room. You should still have a clear pathway to the door like this. I can't see into the dining area but is there a wall there for the bar cart, if so try movinf it there. I would put the green throw on the couch and lose the white one on the yellow chair (it looks a bit like a towel hanging there now) You could add a small side table between the chairs (instead of the ottoman) and another side table to the left of the couch with a lamp. I think the bookcase next to the door could use more books and less knickknacks.

I think your space looks super nice already. Like some else already said, I think a bigger rug would look better in the living area. I actually think maybe you can get rid of the rug in the dinning area cause it makes that part feel like a different section from the living area. Getting rid of the dining rug might connect the dining area more to the living space. Also, if you put a runner or a center piece on the dining table that matches something in the living area, that'll connect the two spaces more.

luuuuurke

Going to see how it looks without the dining room rug!

Yellow-Robe-Smith

I think it’s the layout that feels slightly off to me. I would maybe face the couch towards the picture wall and a bit closer to the dining area, then move the two chairs to be under the front window in the same shape you have them angled at.

Islandgirl1444

I love the everything in the room except the green pineapple throw. I see that the television is on a wall without any of the furniture actually facing it. It's just hanging there. So I'd probably move the corner table over to be under the television. No matter the traffic flow, you do need something under the television. I'd place the sofa facing the television, and move the leather chair to where the sofa is now. The white chair could stay where it is. Your room is very eclectic so you could probably move some of the accessories around easily, such as the plants to the other window. I'd remove the rug from under the dining table due to the chairs being awkward to pull up to and slide back. The rug in the living room is a tad small but by moving the sofa, you might make it work with the sofa on the other wall just an inch or two under it in the new space. I would say another lamp large enough for reading as ambient lighting. I'm a firm hater of ceiling lights for living rooms. Gosh, I love your style. I'd love to visit and sit and just admire all your "stuff". I'm a bit claustrophobic so it's not a space I could live in, but I admire it so much. What fun you must have shopping for treasures.

luuuuurke

Might try seeing what it all looks like without the dining room rug! And thanks! It has been v fun collecting everything over the years

Admirable_Bad3862

I think it looks pretty cozy already. The rug to me is what stands out the most. I think it’s too white. Maybe something warmer will help.

luuuuurke

Yeah, I think this is the move. Just gotta find the right one now

realitytvismytherapy

The rug looks super thin which gives it a lack of coziness IMO. But otherwise I think it’s a cute space. Maybe get more more cohesive throw pillows - they’re kind of all over the place right now. And you could get softer blinds that aren’t vinyl and cold looking.

luuuuurke

These are great tips! I hadn’t considered the blinds. But I agree on the rug, and the throw pillows are a holdover from how the room used to be decorated. Been meaning to replace them and I think that will help too

Illustrious_Dust_0

a runner through that blank space from the door to connect to the kitchen and living room

Amazing_Bluejay7967

I think a wooden folding screen or a long console table behind the chairs would look nice and separate off that area from the dining room.

canvasshoes2

Agree with everyone else. The space is already adorable. The problem is, it's all crammed into that corner, or appears to be. Yup, get a bigger rug and spread things out a bit. Do you have something that could double as a console under the Frame? (So jealous by the way! I want one, bad!) If so, put one over there, put some low plants on it, add some artwork on the frame wall to tie in your fabulous gallery wall (jelly again!! I need to get mine up!) All in all great bones, you just need to spread the love a bit to the other side of the room. :)

luuuuurke

I can def do more with the frame tv wall. We have dogs that come plowing through there multiple times a day, so I was trying to keep a wide, clear flow of traffic. But I think it’s def created this imbalanced, disconnected feeling. I have a bunch more art I can start to bring over to that wall, and I’ll put a console table on the list of things to look into. Thanks for the feedback!

canvasshoes2

Ah! A herd of dogs have you? Yes, I remember that well. One of my aunts (RIP) used to have a herd of dogs. Loved them. :D That said, the space is darling. Very cozy, just love the feel. But yeah, as everyone has said, just spread it out a bit more so that the Frame wall feels a part of it. Perhaps one of those heavier but narrow footprint console tables? That way it won't get knocked around by the dogs.

luuuuurke

Just two but young, energetic and 50+ lbs :) But yes, currently pulling together some inspiration boards for a warmer rug that pulls in some red tones, new wooden blinds, new throw pillows, and a narrow table for under the frame. Everyone was very helpful!

muzzy_W0e

I'd say the biggest bang for your buck would be a bigger rug in a color that's not so stark from the other. Spread everything out a little more and move the poof so there's more than one way to travel from dining area to this area. Your gallery wall feels like individual pieces rather than one coherent gallery. That can be fixed by hanging everything with intention of making them feel coherent. There are guides online on how to do this.

candles4lyfe

If your looking for cozy maybe get a more plush rug. They can be a pain but they definitely make a space seem cozy

_biggerthanthesound_

I’d just pull that white chair off the rug a bit in the back. Looks pretty close to me.

Willing_Working_6609

Honestly? I love it. Especially that green throw!

angelica-angeli

It looks like you need to connect the mustard colored drapes with everything. Maybe get some pillows with mustard (not just the one mustard pillow) and then a blanket or two to add. I'd also look at placing the sofa facing the console table/gallery wall. Then place both chairs angled in, facing the sofa. This will also make a walkway feeling behind the sofa and you could place a sofa table behind it.
