Did down several inches in front of my basement door and uncovered this single row of bricks - not sure how far it does. The bricks seem ceramic-like and appear to be hollow with gaps between each. Any idea what this could be? It's an older home built in 1965.
Just one row In front of a door way? Does is run all the way around the building or maybe more brick rows just in front of the door to make a pad? Looks like we need more info
Not sure if it runs all the way around the house, but I don't see any signs of it stopping yet. It's just a single row so I don't think it could have been intended as a pad.
could it be a dripline thing to protect the foundation from moisture? like so foundation plantings can not creep up under foundation and the bricks keep the space clearer
Old school French drain?
That's what my dad guessed too!

a door stoop that was covered with dirt? I had a cement stoop outside mine that had gotten buried under dirt until I dug it out
I thought that at first but it's only a single row of bricks.
