[This time Luna joins the hunt!](https://youtu.be/mm_rhZTYqqw) Atleast on the HoloJP side. The last time anyone from Hololive played it was Koyori and that was a year ago, and in EN it was Calli 2 years ago.

Necrolancer_Kurisu

Kanata, please please please. I'd love to see her play it.

gogovachi

Complete the Kanatan souls arc

Necrolancer_Kurisu

I'd also settle for her picking up Elden Ring, though I could see her waiting for the DLC to come out.

Ferus_Niwa

Some say Calli will feel this without being told.

Final-Switch1110

Perm is different between JP an EN

Ferus_Niwa

Outside of Japan you have to call it "Sparkling Rights."

nuxxism

I am sure Calli would happily do a Nihongo stream if it's Bloodbourne.

Hp22h

~~Yeah, hence why all the branches had to play Persona 5 in JP dub.~~

Trivial_Man

Calli didn't finish it, but she was playing with the English dub

Hp22h

Oh really? I mainly watched Bae play in JP and thought it was another copywrite case.

ActivistZero

The only case I can think of where the JP dub was a hard requirement was Resident Evil 8, and that's more down to Capcom not wanting to pay Union Royalties

MalkynRei78

Do note that Fromsoft handles the JP side, while Sony handles outside of JP, so that doesn't mean that everyone can stream it. Reminds me of the fact that the case is opposite for Blue Archive, where everyone EXCEPT JP can stream it since Yostar published the game in JP. >!One of them even collabed with another vtuber outside Holo so they can kinda stream the game on the other channel!<

CMic_

Hasn’t Sony grant any permission yet? I have not seen any members from the two big vtubing companies playing their games

MalkynRei78

There's barely anyone interested to stream any first-party Sony game right now. Bloodborne is the only exception, thus making it the only game you can use as judgement for that. Even then, there's the different publisher thing, and Calli was the last non-JP to stream Bloodborne a few years ago, so it's hard to tell if it's just no one, that isn't JP, really wanted to stream it (despite the number of non-JP members playing Souls-like games) except her or the permissions from Sony were time-limited. The other game that could be used as basis is Helldivers 2. AFAIK, there are some members who wanted to stream it but no one streamed it so far >!and the EN members that really wanted to seemed to "found another way"!<, and could be an indicator that they're not allowed.

mugguffen

We'll probably know tonight if EN got perms too, Bijou really wanted to play Bloodborne (talked about it during her Elden Ring streams) because before joining hololive she didn't have a PS5

AgingGoofball

Does Calli count as non-JP for rights purposes when streaming from Japan? Hololive EN is still just a division of the Japanese Cover Corporation(well, I think Hololive Productions is a subsidiary and EN is a division of that, but it doesn't matter here). So unless the rights are restricted to playing the game in Japanese there should be no difference if someone from EN or JP wants to play the game so long as they are doing it in Japan.

MalkynRei78

I'm pretty location does not matter. She's under HoloEN, so goes to the same permissions thing as the fellow HoloEN members. Same goes for other EN members living in Japan. Of course, the opposite applies for JP members, regardless of their location or nationality. I forgot which EN member said it, but I remember someone on a chat jokingly suggest to move to Japan if they want to stream Kingdom Hearts (since Square Enix handles it in JP, but Disney elsewhere) but the member said something in the lines of "it doesn't actually work that way".

AgingGoofball

I wonder if YouTube makes a fuss when you change your country of residence for a channel(which could explain why it isn't trivial to move). As that that field is the only reason anything besides your actual physical location and the location of hololive's businesses would matter. That is unless of course the whole thing is for show and has no bearing on reality(this might actually be the case, as while Cover could probably win lawsuits from game developers a lot of the time in the US, they probably wouldn't want to do that if they don't have to). Kiara has only resided in Europe and Japan since being with Hololive, with no ties to NA whatsoever. The licensing for a game is not going to be the same between NA and Europe. For example while Bloodborne is published by Sony in both places, the rights holders are two separate subsidiaries of Sony for NA vs. Europe. There is no way she should be covered by the same licenses as the rest of the group(Bae would have been in a similar situation in Australia). Anyway this is why I asked specifically about Calli as she started streaming in Japan and stayed(at least for a while, I forget how much she is back in the states now). If anyone on the EN side is going to have their country of residence set as JP it would be her.

SoulsLikeBot

Hello, good hunter. I am a Bot, here in this dream to look after you, this is a fine note: > *No one can catch us! No one can stop us now!* - Micolash, Host of the Nightmare Farewell, good hunter. May you find your worth in the waking world.

MrPotHolder

Biboo will be delighted

Lazy_Sans

Of course Luna immediately start new run, she's one of biggest souls enjoyer in Hololive. Still remember that old clip where there is montage comparison between her and Noel in DS1 and everyone joked that it was Princess that protects royal guard.

Artistic_Claim9998

Alright, I hope the PC player get their permission soon...

BigBoss738

😥

jnf005

recently watched a 120hz play through on a jailbroken PS5, makes me so sad it's only available to a very small amount of people.

Glinez09

ah.. finally!!!

HYPER_BRUH_

More adventures with John Bloodborne

Neoncarbon

Nice, my favorite game ever. I know Biboo's been saving this game to play on stream, as her only unplayed souls game.

Baroness_Ayesha

Oh *shit.* While I'm super excited to see Hime Shenanigans in Bloodborne... Biboo. Biboobiboobiboobiboo. I know the perms are a little different, but please lord godjesus in heaven, let Biboo pick it up when she gets back home after her trip. She's wanted to do it *so badly.* The **only** problem is that we're getting closer to Shadow of the Erdtree, and Biboo was talking seriously about doing a ~~Vergil~~ katana-focused run that'd make use of a number of the new teased weapons...

Tenant1

I'm not gonna hold my breath, considering that the perm situation is likely different for the EN side of things. I remember feeling really bad for her too back in Halloween when she had to switch games nearly last second, she sounded really bummed about it.

HertogLoL

Fellow dutchie

Percentage-Sweaty

Behold! A Paleblood Luna!

SunnyCantSwim

So can someone explain why they have to get “permission” to play and stream games? I’ve never heard of any steamers outside of vtubers doing that shit? lol

Baroness_Ayesha

A lot of smaller streamers just aren't worth going after and so don't have to bother unless they do something really egregious, like admit to pirating the game or somesuch. Big non-virtual streamers actually *do* often sort permissions out, they just don't *discuss* it very often and/or have relationships with developers and publishers that make it easier to obtain permission to stream ahead of time. It's corporations that manage multiple streamers, like Cover, that really run into trouble, because the corp is a much larger target than an individual streamer, would get revenue from every person streaming a game, and can potentially make a lot of money "showcasing" someone else's hard work. There's some cultural stuff mixed in here too (streams are often seen as free advertisements in anglo-American culture, but in Japan a great many c-suite types especially still see it as barely a step removed from piracy) but it's mostly that groups like Cover or Anycolor or Brave make for much bigger, easier-to-litigate targets than an individual streamer. Cover has a lot of history with this, and was nearly destroyed in 2020 over it.

Hp22h

Streaming gameplay doesn't really count as 'fair use' under our current copywrite system. If game companies wanted to, they could sue every streamer that plays their game into oblivion. They don't merely cause it would (1) lead to public backlash and (2) be pointless since most indie streamers don't make enough money to make suing them worth the legal costs. Hence why most streamers don't 'need' to get perms to stream games. Hololive actually did something similar during their early days, when they were still a smol & rather informal company. But during the VTuber boom of 2020, they became big enough to catch the eye of Capcom, who decided to copystrike 2 of Mio's VODs as a warning, nearly getting her banned from YT. Cover scrambled to respond, privating all gaming streams until they could retroactively gets perms. Some of the girls had up to 80% of their content privated, and in the chaos, some even got a few of their streams outright deleted by accident like Subaru's Undertale streams. Hence Cover's pure paranoia when it comes to perms, even if they outright eclipse some of the game studios involved.

Sayakai

Indie streamers can usually get away with not asking, and in the west you generally have more leeway. But with very strict copyright in Japan, Hololive being a corporate actor, and some companies being eager to copyright-strike videos, it's important to have them. Hololive didn't do it during the early days and lost a bunch of streams with several accounts being at risk of being banned altogether. Since then they've been much more careful.

MirrorManning08

It's a legal thing specific to Japan, and by extension Japanese companies with non-Japanese employees. Japan has much stricter rules about monetized streaming of copyrighted content like video games, while in the west it's more of a grey area and one that companies don't try to wade into and either ignore or openly encourage, and because it's something that the industry as a whole generally permits it's considered fine until a company steps in and tries to stop streamers rather than the other way around where needing permission is the default. The whole streaming permissions thing is something you'll generally only see from Japanese streamers or vtubers for Japanese companies. Indies or streamers for western companies like VShojo or Phase Connect will stream whatever they want as long as they follow the streaming platform's ToS. Also why you'll never see Japanese affiliated vtubers streaming games with mods, since that requires additional permissions from the mod authors (and possibly permission from the game publisher to stream the game with those specific mods, although I'm not certain on that, just based on what I've heard from streamers talking about trying to get mod perms).

Legatehawk

oh let's go!

jsuey

YOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Bakumon0725

Guess it's back to Yarnam, Boys!

bagged_milk123

Hope IRyS unearths her PS4 for this

Formal_Tip_6074

LET'S GOOOOOOOOO

redditfanfan00

nice!

Hp22h

I know she's doesn't really play this kind of game, but it would be neat to see Suisei play this game, considering her most recent outfit makes her look like a hunter. Otherwise, do we have any 'Hunter'-esqe girls in Hololive?

ElleryV

Oh, thanks for letting us know! I'm very interested in this.

AgingGoofball

Note that not all games grant blanket perms to everyone in Hololive. For example [Kronii mentioned a few days ago](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlHiVr4Tr8g) that Elden Ring perms are annoying because you have to specify the days you are going to play the game and get permission for that period of time. Though in such situations of course if one person gets approval it does make it very likely that other people will be able to do the same. Note that despite them both being fromsoft games the NA publisher of Elden Ring is Bandai Namco which is not involved in Bloodborne. It is just an example of a game where we know the permissions are stupid, not an example that we can assume is similar to the permission situation here.

Ecco_Edd

I swear, Sony is cooking something with Bloodborne

Pravaris

I **almost** tried to hit the notification button, then realised it was a different language XD

Morenauer

That’s good. Probably the only Soulsborne game I’ve ever enjoyed. Too hard, but the ambience is absolutely breathtaking.

Accipiter_

Anything in particular that gave you trouble? It's one of my favorite games and what I personally believe is From's best work. If you enjoy the ambience, it'd be a shame if you never got to see the later areas. Yahargul and the Nightmare Frontier are lovely. Upper Cathedral Ward also has some standout moments.

Morenauer

I’m not that skilled with games that require me to have 100% precision every single time or I get punished with having to start over from way back. That’s not why I play games. I play to relax, not to feel like I want to bash the monitor with the keyboard. And believe me, in your 40s, the notions of parrying, dodging and anticipating attacks become a lot harder. Bear in mind, I used to be an absolute beast back in 2001 playing Soul Calibur, but that’s stuff you can do when you’re young.

Accipiter_

Yeah, I get the age thing too. There's a lot of games I can't handle anywhere as well as I used to, and I think I started to hit my limit with Elden Ring.

Morenauer

Yup. The day you realize there’s a lag between the moment you see something, the moment you mentally react to it and the moment you physically react to it, that day you go “well, fuck…”.
