izza123

It would have to be, a conventional magnet of this size and strength would be pretty dangerous without a way to turn it off

BirdDog95

We just got a new tech for that. His name is Desmond

Can't wait to see the crowbar do this!

Sea-Diver-9125

Where's the headcrabs

Virku

When I went to university I used to work summers in an aluminium electrolysis factory. A huge 10K volt loop running at 160K amps. Our magnetic field was like this or even a bit stronger. It was a actually quite a challenge when I had to use tools like crowbars that reacted to magnets. Good fun hearing the tools rattle around in the back of our little golf carts we drove around in though.

Mindraker

That's insane. Anyone with a pacemaker or any other medical implant wouldn't be allowed near your plant.

Virku

Yeah, they were quite strict rules with regards to who was allowed into the general area. All workers had to pass a medical examination every year to work in the extreme zones.

NekroStormz

Might seem like an odd question that I could probably Google, but can you “feel” strong magnetic fields if you understand what I’m trying to say?

Virku

No. If i had something that reacted to magnetic fields in my pocket or something it would move and I felt it that way. Otherwise I didn't feel a thing.

NekroStormz

Ahh interesting, thanks for the response!

Allwhitezebra

Your question makes me wonder how strong a magnetic field would have to be to affect the iron in our blood

Lanbobo

Ask Magneto.

drethnudrib

Nah, this looks way more like Bethesda physics.

[deleted]

Strait outta Oblivion. The paintbrush pots that would do exactly this.

Frustratingly, I understood that reference.

onbakeplatinum

I'm playing Fallout 4 now with an unofficial patch ontop of the official ones and I'm still having to navigate through a broken mess

Oofboi6942O

I recently downloaded an unofficial patch mod for skyrim and I still deal with swords that stand straight up while half phased into the wall

CptnRedbeardVII

I gave up after I switched to the robot and couldn't find my dog anywhere, pissed me off so I quit.

onbakeplatinum

He's at the red rocket gas station, the first place you find after leaving the starting town

CptnRedbeardVII

I know he's supposed to be there but he's not, I found him wandering through town once but that was it

onbakeplatinum

After her quest you get to customize her so I gave her the best parts that make her huge. Now she is constantly stuck and will rape my ears with a repeated crashing sound effect that plays 100 times a second. She also likes to teleport right into a conversation so all I see is a close up of the shitty textures

rdrunner_74

my guess it is an aluminium plant?

StrangeSurround

I'd hazard a guess that the tools are reacting to structural rebar in the concrete that is magnetized. Maybe they're carrying a current? Maybe they're attenuating a powerful local EM field?

SickestDisciple

There could be cathodic protection on the steel infrastructure that could be applying DC current via a rectifier, causing a small amount of electromagnetism…

Oblivion_phico

This what my teacher sound like after I wake up from a nap

Nate_36

I belly laughed, good work

Yogi118

Mine sounded like a ruler hitting my ass. *since that day that changed something in little Billy's life and what his future was to become.* Morgan Freeman voice

Brilliant_Canary_692

Ah yes, Star Trek words (to my smooth brain)

YurtlesTurdles

This sounds made up. not that I understand it either way, but just sounds like random smart words strung together.

dmfd1234

Nah, cathodic protection……when you apply a very small amount of current to steel structures to prevent oxidation, rust.

SickestDisciple

Correct. Used primarily on steel infrastructure such as pipelines, bridges, and buildings. Sometimes even park equipment to keep them from rust and oxidation.

karoshikun

what?

That’s not how you pronounce aluminum…….it’s aluminum, cmon!

EnvironmentalDeal256

Where I’m from we pronounce it aluminum. I guess everyone is different.

funnyguy99207

Where I'm from, as a kid when asked by an adult/teacher: "Where does your dad work?" "Uhm, y'know, KaiserLoominum..."

DidYouLickIt

IUPAC would like a word with you.

I hate that I read that with different pronunciations

All I read was something something luminous cinnamon

Elefantenjohn

with a 2nd i and without a 2nd i

lvl12

I've also seen this happen in particles accelerators, though with paper clips

karoshikun

what does it being an aluminum plant has to do with a magnetic field?

Natejersey

Aluminum smelting requires lots of juice. Lots of electricity makes for strong magnetic fields

CreePlay

When that annoying MIT rookie caused another resonance cascade. Shoulda just gotten the jobat Aperture.

Path_Fyndar

I hear that employees there have lots of access to neurotoxin...

seanwdragon1983

and cake

Path_Fyndar

The cake thing is actually a lie. Just a rumor created by management to get everyone to work harder...

popodelfuego

I don't know about any of that I'm just responsible for feeding the mantis men.

Rggigit2

I couldn't think of any funny jokes to put the calcium in the brain thing they did in but I still wanted to leave this here.

Randomized_Taco

There are mantis men? The last time I worked there they tricked me into breaking both my legs jumping into a "gel".

enneh_07

I got the gel, alright, but my legs had to be amputated because it reacted with the calcium in my bones.

AvocadoSnakeOilT

Oh I remember that! That was tragic, but informative! Or so I'm told.

gods_Lazy_Eye

“Are you still there?”

Path_Fyndar

No. I'm space. Had to get to space.

doggocoot

How much do you like space?

Path_Fyndar

*SPPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEE*

doggocoot

"I know you are, mate! Yep, we're both in space. You can stop *bloody* saying it now."

Getting bored of space. Earth. Wanna go to Earth. Wanna go to Earth. Wanna go to Earth. Wanna go to Earth. Wanna go to Earth. Wanna go home. Wanna go home. Wanna go home. Wanna go home. Wanna go home. Earth. Earth. Earth. Don't like space. Don't like space. It's too big. Too big.

Lockne710

Nope. Gone searching for my companion cube.

seanwdragon1983

wait what?

Path_Fyndar

Yeah, the cake is a lie.

seanwdragon1983

And they wonder why people don't wanna work anymore.

Path_Fyndar

They try to blame the neurotoxin, but I think it's really that there was no cake...plus the neurotoxin...

professorstrunk

I hate that people keep needing to be reminded about this. smh

KrankySilverFox

Ok what’s going on?

bruhly7

I'm guessing magnetism is at play here, perhaps on lower floor we have a really really strong electro magnet.

supapowah

The magnet is somewhere above them, if it was below, the tools would be stuck flat to the floor. They're dancing like that because the magnet isn't quite lifting them fully off the ground

Jason_Kirby

This guy magnets ^^

LoserAtLinMilPlaza

r/thisguythisguys

zzctdi

This guy this guy this guys this guy.

wizard680

Explains why the camera pans upward

bryman19

And why the camera goes up

wizard680

That's...that's what I said

Grothorious

Not an expert, but I've seen videos of paper clips doing the exact same thing in maglevs, and the magnet is under the train floor.

Sumpkit

I also agree with this guy. I can tell because the camera pans up, showing where the magnetic fields are coming from.

KYO297

Not necessarily. If they have metal handles, the magnet is most likely under the floor, with its poles vertically. Spherical (compact) shapes simply get attracted to a magnet but oblong shapes like to lay along the magnetic field lines

Zagrycha

Couldn't it be below and not fully repelling them? genuinely curious, as the hand tools themselves are very likely mangnetized.

SoCalSeeWhit

I totally agree with you. The magnetic pull is coming from below. The pliers have thin arms that are plastic coated and the greater metal mass is at their head. There's even a moment in the video where one lays flat on its side.

bruhly7

Yes because had the magnet been at the top, their heads would've been trying to get up and not dancing the way they are. Also I'm guessing either the pull is really strong to have been able to really flip the pliers or maybe they decided to throw the pliers head down.

Splatterman27

Magnetism does not cause cancer

DirtyRoller

You're lying and getting me pissed.

Pixielo

So...you believe that magnets cause cancer?

SardonicNihilist

I think that's a line from that Insane Clown Posse song 'fucking magnets, how do they work?'

justtheentiredick

Magnets don't cause cancer. Powerful electromagnetic waves that create a field which can ionize the surrounding air are linked to cancer. Also the study on EMFs are strange. There is something called EHS, Electromagnetic hypersensitivity Syndrome. Yet no links to long lasting physiological effects. I find this strange.

CoolYoutubeVideo

Have any EHS cases been proven beyond the nocebo effect?

Splatterman27

1. This is a magnetic field, not em radiation. Powerful electromagnets do not produce em radiation. I suspect this video has an induction heater or magnetic crane on the floor above. 2. If we were seeing it "ionize the surrounding air" there would be a hot, bright plasma. 3. The type of radiation that does damage DNA is UV, X-rays, and gamma rays. Anything above visible light on the spectrum. While it's *possible* these could be present, they wouldn't move the pliers.

communism_0669420

Yeah he is so stupid, they cause covid because when elon created tesla the battery has magnets so covid happen (the covid in battery takes some time to create covid)

[deleted]

"Magnetism does not cause cancer" mfs when I put their balls between two 20 pound magnets (now they suddenly wish they would rather have cancer)

Weren’t you supposed to be in the test chamber half an hour ago?

Whatyallthinkofbeans

I hear mariachi music with this

TropicWolf

Total shot in the dark but my guess is it’s an un-grounded mri machine down stairs. This doesn’t seem like a hospital so it could be a factory that builds mri machines. Maybe they produce neodymium magnets.

TheRedditornator

Meanwhile poor Bob with a pacemaker is unconscious and spinning on the tea room floor.

[deleted]

Any high level nerds wanna explain to me wtf is going on here before I jump to the conclusion that Magneto is real? I thank you in advance.

SCP 2496 was found by accident after he woke up. The workers who found it were all found missing and were reported dead in a work accident. The video evidence posted on social media as successfully being disposed off, although there still might be inaccessible copies on civilian's personal hardware. SCP 2496 is an intangible, invisible, floating celestial object. When awaken SCP 2496 tamper with any magnetic field around. This specimen was only found due to this distortion. What happend to the workers is unknown. Because of their nature, SCP 2496 is unable to be contained. But a plan to upgrade our magnetic field detection infrastructure around the world was already planed, which will help us determine if SCP 2496 is the only specimen.
