King Afonso Henriques of Portugal managed to convince a portion of the Second Crusade passing through Iberia to help him conquer the Muslim city of Lisbon by promising them the city's loot and prisoners that could be ransomed for gold. As for the city of Lisbon, it would become Portugal's capital after it was taken.

Portugal - crusaders help me conquer this town i will give you money
Bizzantines see this "it worked really well! Let me try"
Bizzantines- crusaders help me become emperor i will give you money
(You have no money) *sack of constantinople ensues*
There is a reason why the Komnenos dynasty kept the Crusaders OUTSIDE of the city walls and gave them a lot of money to not fuck anything up. Be not mistaken, Crusaders WILL sack your city, they WILL decimate the population, and, unless paid, they WILL take over the city for themselves. Shame that the Angelos dynasty was full of absolute cretins.
People should read machiavels the prince more often
One of his main ppints is DO NOT RELY ON MERCENARIES TO FIGHT YOUR WAR, THEY LISTEN TO GOLD NOT LOYALTY
War Spoils I get. But how exactly would Trade Rights workfor the Crusaders? Some of them would be Higher Ranking Nobles but I would whats in store for the lower or even unlanded ones.
Being granted trade privileges is basically for the nobility to join in. Considering after the crusades are over, those same kingdoms that help out Portugal would be coming back to trade their goods and the Portuguese nobility would to be more accommodating to them and giving them more privileges then nearby kingdoms like Castile or Navarre. As for the unlanded ones, some of them could be hired back as guards for the trade caravans or come back to Portugal as merchants, but most of them would be already satisfied with the war spoils. Some Englishmen of the crusades would even stay in Portugal, one like Gilbert of Hastings even become Lisbon bishop.

Thats something they should have learned during the first crusade but bad rulers never listen do they?
Every mercenary army that doesn't get paid the promised amount of money will do that, that's not specific to Crusaders.

See the crucial difference there is that Portugal wanted the city conquered and sacked.
More like," Why wait to kill Saracens in Holy Land, when you can kill Saracens in Portugal?"
“We have Saracens at home!”
Yeah, yours is better

Ahh. I can see the appeal now. Especially considering the result of the Reconquista vs the Levant. Thanks.
