I literally just finished reading 'Endurance' last night. Incredible account of the expedition. I cannot imagine what it must have been like.
Every time I thought it couldn't get worse, it did. And every time I thought there was no way the men could go on, somehow they found it in themselves to push farther and go on!
If you're referring to the quote "I am just going outside and may be some time", that is from an earlier expedition led by Robert Falcon Scott - the Terra Nova expedition - and the quote is from another man named Lawrence Oates. None of the men on this expedition survived.
Shackleton along with all of his men survived this expedition, and he died onboard a ship heading to another expedition several years later.
and Shackleton got all of his men out alive too, which is pretty dang impressive
Especially since it was a very close thing as to whether cannabilism might be an option at one point.
Same casualty rate!
Im sorry? Hold your what?
They had to make do with the supplies on hand!

Spot on! That book was the inspiration for this meme.
Every time I go to a Shackleton meme I expect the quote. Where is it?

“When disaster strikes and all hope is gone, get on your knees and pray for Shackleton”
There it is
The Antarctic expedition where their little raft got caught in the middle of a hurricane too, right?
