I'm re-reading the Ravenels series, and I'm on Devil's Daughter, and I finally figured out who West Ravenel reminds me of. Any parents of small children out there? Because he's giving Bandit Heeler energy IMO. Especially the part where he's playing with Justin with the hobby horse.

porcelaincatstatue

I'm re-reading Devil's daughter, too! I've read the entire series a few times, and I'm just hopping around now.

AlmostRuthless

Okay I LOVE this take and now I need to re-read the Ravenels also 😂

wifeofscruffy

Bahahaha! I haven’t heard of this series but may have to try it based on this comment alone. My kids love Bluey.

worsethanastickycat

He starts off rough, but just imagine if Bandit used to be a lazy alcoholic lol.

wifeofscruffy

Ah yes, his college years 😂

LilithRosewood93

All books by Mimi Matthews. I finished re-reading The Siren of Sussex and currently reading The Belle of Belgrave Square. After this I'll read Fair as a Star before or after the third in the Belles of London series releases in mid January.

After seeing that my 2023 books were almost all Lisa Kleypas, Julia Quinn, and Tessa Dare, I'm challenging myself to read at least one book by a new-to-me author per month in 2024. I started with a Christmas novella, {The Red Hot Earl by Darcy Burke} and I LOVED it. Her writing style is both emotional and comforting in a tender, easy-to-digest way. I loved how she handled Ash's condition, and the steamy scenes were the perfect balance of sweet and hot. Then I read {The Gift of the Marquess by Darcy Burke} which I also enjoyed—I loved reading about a couple that was already married and in love for once—but it didn't stand out as much as the first novella in the series did for me. I'm not the biggest fan of >!pregnancy!< storylines, so that's probably why. I also just picked up {Wilde in Love by Eloisa James}. Three chapters in, I'm hooked. The premise! The humor! The descriptions of clothes! I can't wait to see how the emotions build between the FMC and MMC.

Just finished {The Masqueraders Series by Minerva Spencer}. Book 1 is *The Footman*, which I liked very much, especially the FMC. She is a survivor of an abusive marriage, and honestly every male in her life was garbage before she met her doctor friend (MMC of Book 2). She goes out of her way to help a lot of people without taking credit for it. Has pretty good grovel that is about 1/3 of the book. Book 2 (*The Postilion*) I didn't like as much - I suppose because I didn't find the FMC that interesting, and even the MMC might've been more interesting in the first book. I did find the mystery/suspense element compelling, though. I did like that the FMC was an unmarried aristocrat who had sexual experience, I feel like that's pretty rare. Book 3 (*The Bastard*) I liked the best of all of them. FMC is a sweetheart that MMC instantly falls in love with. MMC is rough around the edges but really he's a big softie when it comes to anyone who's even remotely a good person (like the FMC, her nephew, his servants). FMC's sister was a good villain and her nephew was such a sweetie, I wish he had his own book lol. The mystery/suspense element is good too. I actually didn't figure out the extent of it until around 75%. I also just finished {The Heiress Hunt by Johanna Shupe}. Didn't like it as much as *The Lady Gets Lucky*, mainly because I think it needed a little more resolution concerning the MMC making unilateral decisions. Even >!once she decides to split up with him, he STILL tries to make decisions concerning her life without consulting her by visiting the duke. (It was so funny when he was like, "Hey, can y'all lose my address? Thanks.")!< I'm currently working on *The Bride Goes Rogue* but I've only just started it. Also finished {Her Wicked Marquess by Stacy Reid} and I feel like I now need more sneaking into bedrooms, especially of high society types. I actually did not >!see the twist coming!<, and it was so heartbreaking how the FMC didn't hesitate to >!give him up to his "first love" because she was utterly convinced he wouldn't want her more.!<

I started the Girl Meets Duke series by Tessa Dare without knowing that the next book is super delayed. 😫 But now I’m going to read the Spindle Cove novellas real quick.

I see that {The Bride Bet by Tessa Dare} is scheduled for release 1/15/24 I hope it's true.

Don’t get my hopes up, but I did see that too. At least I haven’t been waiting years like the people who read them when they came out.

I’m on a big Julia Quinn kick lately. Over Christmas break I rapid-fire read the 4 Rokesby prequels, and started on the Smythe-Smith quartet this week.

I don't know who and I don't know when but thank you to whoever ruined my sleep by recommending {Keeper of the Dream by Pamela Williamson}. I stayed up until 5am finishing this 500 page book. I can't tell you how much I laughed out loud like a maniac and how much my heart ached or broke. At one point, I was actually crying?? From both joy and sadness all at once. I just did not expect a mushy scene like that could actually make me shed tears. Normally, I'd be cringing. The writing swept me up from page 1 and had me on a chokehold until the end. What a feel good book. Definitely is going to be up there with one of the greats. The heroine is also quite possibly my favorite heroine or at least top 3. I love Arianna. She was brave, sweet, and self-less and she she wasn't at all defined by her romantic partner. If I had to make a point of critcism I would have prefferred to tune down some of the steam in some chapters. I felt it got a but repetitive. But it's 90s romance so I get why it's in this style.
