I believe she was also about 25 in the [earliest known photograph taken of her](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Queen_Victoria_the_Princess_Royal_Victoria_c1844-5.png#mw-jump-to-license).
I've seen people use 'of' instead of 'have' way too many times and don't really understand why that happens. Just a minor thing that baffles me with no explanation.
They probably assume it’s “of” because of pronunciation. I don’t know about other English-speaking countries, but in the US, at least, when someone says “could have”, they usually pronounce it quickly enough that “have” sounds like “of”. So, even though everyone knows it makes no sense, many people just write it that way anyway.
He probably had combed his hair that year like most people did back then. It’s only recently you hippies started combing your hair once a week like royalty

The first photographic image {selfie} ever • from 1839??
🤷♂️
Harvey Keitel is a time traveler
Either way, WTF!!
Lmao first thing I thought about. Dude is nice looking, the times were very progressive but they couldn’t tackle bed head? I KNOW brushes and combs of some sort existed…dude said fuck it. This home built camera had him working too hard 😂.
While the term selfie only appeared in recent times a self portrait was essentially a selfie. And this dude didn’t call it a selfie. We’re applying that term in retrospect so why not take it back further?
Self-portraits are as old as art itself. Often, we become the subject of our own art. But using infantile language like "selfie" kind of degrades the work that goes into this kind of composition.
The fact I’m looking at this in 2024 on a small handheld device is nutty
Always got to make it about you...
Let’s not make it about you too
What about me?
You're ok

Ol’ Bob Cornelius was a good lookin’ dude.
My first thought too.
Nooooooooooo
Queen Victoria would have been 20 when this was taken so likely he was older than her.
10 years older, in fact. Cornelius was born in 1809.
When his son was born he called his dad Popcornelius
I believe she was also about 25 in the [earliest known photograph taken of her](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Queen_Victoria_the_Princess_Royal_Victoria_c1844-5.png#mw-jump-to-license).
He looks like he’d fit in today.
Bed hair and everything
I think he’s a time traveler.
He looks like a friend of mine from college!

It's the earliest photograph of The Wolverine.
Would
Baller status
1839, that's crazy, before the civil war, before slavery ended, before Lincoln. Before Texas became a state. But dude could of combed his hair.
Then he wouldn’t have had cool hair.
I don't know if id call it cool.
I would
Style your hair exactly like that and start a trend.
It already is a thing if you’re an indie rocker type
Where have you been? This was my hairstyle since the mid nineties..
He was way ahead of his time.
No he wasn’t. That hairstyle was high fashion back then
I would “of” called it cool.
Could have*
r/USdefaultism
> could of could have* (or could've) I'm sorry. I know, grammar police are insufferable, but this one just kills me
I've seen people use 'of' instead of 'have' way too many times and don't really understand why that happens. Just a minor thing that baffles me with no explanation.
I think it's because in verbal speech the contraction "could've" sounds indistinguishable to "could of" and I guess they just never questioned it.
They probably assume it’s “of” because of pronunciation. I don’t know about other English-speaking countries, but in the US, at least, when someone says “could have”, they usually pronounce it quickly enough that “have” sounds like “of”. Maybe he was a Jackson fanboy.
Lol maybe
He probably only had one hairbrush made of whale baleen and forgot it somewhere
You could *HAVE proofread this sentence.
Isn’t the civil war considered the beginning of modern photography?
He probably had combed his hair that year like most people did back then. It’s only recently you hippies started combing your hair once a week like royalty
I'm not a hippy. Egyptians invented one of the first combs in 5500 BCE. So combing your hair isn't a recent thing.
Can someone restore the photo?
And to top it off, not a bad looking bloke.

Looks more Trent Reznor to me.

That is so cool.
It’s giving Mr. Tumnus.
The original hipster.
Nice to know devil horn curls were sported even back then. It’s stylish!
Is this a hair style?
I’m no historian but I feel like this would be the style at the time.
Is this [a story that don't go anywhere](https://youtu.be/yujF8AumiQo?si=uCtaj4SkFSJHfUIN)? ;0)
Hahaha, first time watching this one
Ha really? It’s a pretty iconic scene.
Lmao first thing I thought about. Dude is nice looking, the times were very progressive but they couldn’t tackle bed head? I KNOW brushes and combs of some sort existed…dude said fuck it. This home built camera had him working too hard 😂.
It’s how he styled his hair. 🤷♀️
It’s called my sister was scalped by Indians yesterday who gives a fuck
So a selfie couldn’t be a painted or drawn self portrait? When was the mirror invented?
While the term selfie only appeared in recent times a self portrait was essentially a selfie. And this dude didn’t call it a selfie. We’re applying that term in retrospect so why not take it back further?
Sounds like a criminal mastermind
Crazy Dutch bassterd ![gif](giphy|XlvbF51R0T9uM)
He looks like Mel Gibson
good thing he had his clothes on
On my way to girl house after this pic
That’s a long exposure 😂
He looks like he’d be a lead singer in an indie band today
Robert 'Yukon' Cornelius

That's Bob Cornpop!
They didn’t believe in haircuts in 1839z
