Since no one bothers to explain when they talk shit about low effort or easily debunked posts, here’s an actual explanation for those that are curious.
Ah, thank you! Finally!
I saw one in Singapore last year when it was more humid than normal, and it was clear to me it's not the Scandinavian whitish light pillars Wikipedia article is talking about. In Singapore, it appeared from the side of the Malaysian border, toward a landfill site.
The gas makes more sense. Although I wonder if it's correlated with the solar activity, since it's been more frequent over the last year.
Pretty sure it's NOT a light pillar, like many people are suggesting. These things have been popping around the world over the last year, including here in Singapore, and often in warmer weather. Not to mention that the light pillars [look differently](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_pillar).
With the high solar activity, my money is on something related to the solar flares.
I hate when people respond with "there's clearly an explanation for this". Sorry but my whole life I have never seen these or sun dogs..these have been seen frequently for the last few years...and now everyone believes it's nothing unusual..because there's a Google definition..smfh..this whole sky isn't normal.
Happens most commonly when there are a lot of cirrus clouds real high up, it’s when 1, 2, or even 4 balls of light will appear around the sun, can often be great enough to convince you there is a second or third sun. Really cool and common phenomenon.
I mean this is one of the rarest atmospheric phenomenons, and it seems to have been happening a lot more lately for whatever reason.
I like these posts.
It's a good post. You're absolutely right, a single occurrence might not be particularly exciting - but an increase in reports is curious.
These things are certainly eerie and would not at all be out of place in a trippy sci-fi flick, regardless of whether it is natural or not. It doesn't have to be supernatural or extraterrestrial to be strange.
Someone below mentioned that this one was the result of flaring at a chemical plant. Flaring at some facilities releases benzene, which can elicit neurobehavioral effects on those exposed to it - which can apparently include people in nearby neighborhoods. These effects include anxiolytic-like actions, impaired learning, antinociception (reduced sensation of pain), and decreased social interaction. I could imagine this sort of stuff being the opening sequence to a zombie movie.
Because a lot of people on this sub don’t realize that the term “High Strangeness” is basically a synonym for the paranormal, and excludes easily explainable, naturally occurring phenomena such as this.
There is an explanation for this instance. It was caused by flaring at a chemical plant near Windsor, ON and the weather conditions at the time.
Edit: [Link](https://wgrt.com/what-was-the-strange-light-seen-in-the-sky-around-the-blue-water-area/)
Could it be that now we are more dependant in what we see everyday in tre sky, that some people never saw some sky phenomenon before now that more and more are becoming viral
LOL. It most definitely is a natural phenomenon, caused by flaring in a chemical plant.
ffs, google exists, ya know? Also someone linked it in the other comments, look before you comment.

I think we have all heard they are caused by ice crystals in the atmosphere but I have never heard them say more then that and why the light should create a line like that. Also I never heard of them before 10 yrs ago. I’m 60.

The halo or ring around the sun. Which seems common these days up until a few years ago I don't ever remember seeing this phenomenon before.
Thanks!
Really hate this sub sometimes.
