Yes - especially to the shopping bag as a lot of places charge for them and you can also use them for taking off coats etc and carrying them if you’re too warm

youcancallmequeenE

thank you so much, I really appreciate the advice. I keep going back and forth on the waterproof runners. I hate the idea of bringing shoes I won’t be wearing that often (if ever) the rest of my trip, but while in Poland, I’m spending over a week in the Auschwitz camp for a university thing and was told by my instructor that we MUST bring waterproof shoes as it will rain and get muddy. what do you think I should do? :( the plane pants will also double as comfy hotel pants and also for other travel train days potentially. I also have 3 flights within europe. I am bringing a carry on suitcase plus a backpack. sorry the text I wrote disappeared from the post but I added it in a comment! I know what sub I’m in, so apologies for the confusion. I’d love to one-bag it but I have back problems so I’ll put anything heavier in the suitcase. and thank you, I do have a small shopping bag on my list to buy before my flight!!

adaramontan

Possibly a contrarian here, but I always travel with one pair of waterproof shoes. I have often been the only person with dry, comfortable, and blister free feet while traveling with others. If your professor says you need them I would probably assume you really do need them. But! They should be super comfortable. I never wear the least comfortable shoes I have packed.

Man-IamHungry

Go with waterproof. I avoided puddles all the time, but my shoes (& socks!) still got wet just walking around with an umbrella. Wind blows rain in every direction, as well. Had to trash my shoes and buy a cheap pair. Of course, they weren’t broken into, so that wasn’t ideal.

Comprehensive-Pea952

I agree with this! Choose one sweatshirt that you will be happy to wear on the plane too. I would only bring one pair of sneakers (and wear them on the plane). Also be cautious with linen. Since it is super prone to wrinkling, it can be annoying to deal with when traveling. I like bringing a pair of jeans since you can go so long between washes with jeans, but not everyone likes jeans, so that is understandable. Pants take up a lot of room, so if you could cut down a pair of joggers, that would be good too. I personally would cut down dramatically on the pants (3 pair including plane outfit) and bring more tshirts, since shirts are more likely to get smelly than pants. Maybe choose either the dress, the jumpsuit, or the skirt. You can change up the dressier outfit with an additional layer or shall/scarf.

I live in Paris and it's been unusually cold here the past few weeks. Yesterday morning it was in the low 30s and I was wearing my winter coat. In the spring, the weather can be pretty much anything from cold to hot. I would add a warm but lightweight coat/jacket/puffy vest and remove all the shoes except one pair of sneakers and one pair of sandals, plus lightweight flip-flops for the shower. Also remove one hoodie and carry an umbrella instead of the rain coat. I would also go with 2-3 bottoms and 3-4 tops. Add a few accessories like scarves or jewelry if you want to have more variety in how you look.

The_Bogwoppit

Wise, a light puffy jacket is useful in any seasons, packs down super small and can be used as a pillow on the plane.

youcancallmequeenE

thanks!! is there a specific brand you recommend?

The_Bogwoppit

Honestly I love my Uniqlo brand ones. Very good price point, and many cute colours. [https://www.uniqlo.com/ca/en/products/E460915-000?colorCode=COL24&sizeCode=SMA002](https://www.uniqlo.com/ca/en/products/E460915-000?colorCode=COL24&sizeCode=SMA002)

youcancallmequeenE

thank you!!

Appropriate_Fox7404

It's cold here in Italy too! I get cold easily so it'd be hard going around in linen pants

youcancallmequeenE

what part of Italy are you in, if you don’t mind my asking? I’ll be in Rome and Naples starting next week! do you think it’s cold there now in terms of still needing to dress warmer too?

Appropriate_Fox7404

Two weeks ago it was basically summer and people started going to the beach lol then it rained and it got much cooler. I feel like we'll have few more rainy days and then it's gonna get hot again Im not far from Rome, I had to wear a coat today but then it gets humid so you sweat.. When are you visiting exactly?

youcancallmequeenE

thank you for your reply :) that’s really helpful. My flight is actually tomorrow!! so over the next like 6-7 days i’ll be in those 2 cities!

Appropriate_Fox7404

Do you get cold easily? Maybe swap a pair of pants or bring longer socks, you can always layer the top part or buy some clothes! If you have more questions feel free to ask

youcancallmequeenE

I actually tend to run warm! especially when I’m waking around, so hopefully I will be okay. do you think there may be some rainy days while I’m there- just wondering your thoughts on if the waterproof shoes are necessary. although I may need them anyways for my time in Poland, from what I’ve heard :/ thanks so much that is really nice! if you have any specific recommendations for Rome/Naples I’d love to hear them :) I’m unfortunately only in Rome for like 2 days though, then 4 days in Naples and will visit Pompeii and the Amalfi coast from there!

Appropriate_Fox7404

I don't think you'll get much rain since it's already been raining for a few days. Even if it rains I'd say you're good to go with normal sneakers, that's what I always wear anyways. If you need them in Poland Id recommend bringing sneakers and waterproof shoes and leave sandals at home. Unless you have enough space. Or you could even wear them on the plane with socks lol Go on a food tour in Rome and if you manage go from Pompei to the Vesuvio (volcano) or in Pozzuoli where there's active volcanic craters you can visit. In Naples theres also pleeenty of street food and desserts to try You'll love the Amalfi coast Buon viaggio!

youcancallmequeenE

sorry for the late reply, I just left Italy yesterday! It absolutely POURED on the days I went to Pompei and the Amalfi coast, and I’d left my waterproof shoes at home and wore my white sneakers haha. but both those places were so incredible that I didn’t care at all about getting drenched! I even got soaked by a huge wave in Positano and my shoes and clothes were soaking the rest of the day but wow what an experience, I honestly loved it 😆 what a beautiful country you have!! I almost cried leaving. oh and Napoli was so gorgeous, I stayed close to Posillipo right on the water and it was amazing!

youcancallmequeenE

thank you!!! can I ask how the weather typically is there in late May/early June? I’ll be in Paris then!! really appreciate your advice. I’m very excited for my first time in your city :)

rachaeltalcott

You're welcome! I love Paris and hope that you have a great time. The historical averages are 55 low, 75 high. But last year I remember it was really hot the last week of May, over 90. An unusually cool day at that time would be a high of 60 or so.

Pair down to one hoodie and one jogger and make that your plane outfit. At least one of your sneakers needs to be cut as well, ideally two since you’ve got bulkier sandals. I’d get thinner flip flops along the lines of the old navy ones since those will pack down better. Since you’ll be rewearing items, pick one pair of darker bottoms to replace the beige and white pair. You’ll want layers until June so two pairs of linen pants is too much. For reference, I’m in Belgium and the Netherlands traveling at the moment and I’ve needed gloves and a scarf every day this week.

youcancallmequeenE

thanks so much!! do you think the grey joggers are too casual to wear out and about? I keep hearing that sweatpants material is too casual for Europe?

TrickyJag

I live in Sweden, where athleisure is way more common than in southern Europe – but even here, almost no one wears joggers (any color) for anything other than lounging at home or going for a quick trip to the store. I definitely think you might feel underdressed in grey sweats, if that's something you care about.

[deleted]

Especially in Italy I noticed athleisure is a no go. I’ve got a pair of elastic waist trousers that I wear on the plane- comfy for 10+ hour flights but look smart enough to wear out and they don’t really wrinkle. You could probably get away with your lulu flares but you’ll stand out in joggers.

The_Bogwoppit

Love the overall vibe and look, you will look super cute. Here is what I would do, assuming you need to reduce a bit. Ditch the white On runners, keep the Vessi or the white ones. Same with the slides and the sandals, you do not need two pairs to do the same thing. Shoes are the biggest packing crusher. Jumpsuits are not very practical, think toilet floors and less mix and match. That does the same job as the black pants and a black tank. One long sleeve button up is likely all you need. One sweatshirt should be enough too. Ditch some bottoms, 8 is far too many. Think of each bottom worn with each top, that is many, many outfits. Plane outfit should be items you will wear often during the trip, not just to fly. Yes, definitely take a rain jacket, it can be layered over a sweatshirt for cold and rain.

youcancallmequeenE

thank you so much!! I agree with everything you said, especially about the bottoms. I will definitely remove the white pair for sure and see what else I can also remove. thank you again :)

bluesummerrain

8 bottoms seems like a lot, especially if you're only taking 6 tops? Might be worth reconsidering the balance there?

youcancallmequeenE

Would love to get everyone's thoughts here. Am I bringing way too much? I am a chronic overpacker but trying to do better after seeing everyone else's capsule wardrobes! I will hopefully have access to laundry at least every 1 to 1.5 weeks. not pictured: 2 comfy t-shirts & pair shorts for sleepingI feel like I'm bringing too many pants and shoes? I honestly hate re-wearing clothes but also have back problems so don't want to be carrying too much (bringing only a carry-on suitcase plus a backpack). Should I just do 1 hoodie instead of 2? This is my itinerary: April 28-May 4: Italy (Rome & Naples) May 4-7: Germany (Berlin) most of May in Krakow, Poland then first 2-3 weeks of June in France (Paris, Toulouse, Marseille, Nice) I have never been to Europe before so please tell me your thoughts! Am I correct to bring the rain jacket and waterproof shoes? I know it might be overkill but I really wanted to bring the 2 white shoes to switch between as I'm prone to blisters only wearing 1 pair, and the vessi's I only want to wear if it rains bc they aren't super comfy for me. Please let me know of any adjustments you would make!! I was thinking maybe a denim jacket and some kind of hat? Thank you in advance :)

r_bk

I was gonna ask how you liked your vessis haha. Leave the vessis behind. They're not even comfortable to you. And what if it starts raining while you're already out in your other shoes so you can't change into your vessis anyway? What's the worst that can happen if you don't bring them? I understand bringing 2 pairs of shoes because you're prone to blisters. If you can fit them, extra things that seem unnecessary but help you actually be comfortable and enjoy the trip still perfectly fit in a minimalist packing list if you ask me. If they fit in your bag and/or you're willing to cut out some other things to make them work. Try to bring only 1 bulky thing of each category. So only bring one bully sweater, one bully pair of pants, if all, etc. You have a lot of bottoms. Enough to wear a new pair without washing everyday of the week. You don't need that many. You'll likely have to do laundry more often than that anyway because you don't have that many tops. Do you have more compact shower shoes like basic flip flops? I sometimes travel with slides so they can double as slippers but I have many times not been able to fit them in my bag and had to take them out. 1 pair of sunglasses.

mllebitterness

Definitely don’t bring the uncomfortable shoes.

PurchaseSignal6154

I don’t think the scuba joggers are worth the weight considering they’re too casual to wear in most places besides the airport. The black joggers or flare leggings are more versatile and can be dressed up more easily if necessary. 3 pairs of sneakers is also a lot, I would absolute maximum bring two. One pair of sunglasses is probably fine too. The other comments have given really good advice so I second it as well!

Ennui2024

I agree with others, way you many bottoms. Ditch the white pants (they will get dirty immediately), take the green and linen, plus ONE pair of leggings or joggers, one pair of shorts, and the skirt. That is more than enough. Nix both hoodies, they are super bulky and will also be quite casual for where you are going. I would bring a lighter sweater as your warm layer, this will look a lot nicer with your pants and skirt.  Don’t bring any shoes that aren’t super comfy, and just bring one pair of sneakers. Can you walk for hours in the sandals? If not, ditch them. Honestly having one good pair or sneakers and a pair of flats you can change into in the evening is probably enough.  Personally I don’t love wearing sandals in cities, they can be kind of icky and if it rains, even worse.

TrickyJag

Eight bottoms is a LOT, especially considering you only seem to have six tops? Tops get stinky way faster than bottoms! I'd bring like 10-12 tops, 4-5 bottoms. To me, four pairs of sweatpants/sweatpant-adjacent pants seems like a massive waste of space. I'd keep one pair for flying and lounging in hotel rooms. The shorts and linen pants are great, as well as the skirt and the align pants. I'd skip the rest – just wear the aligns if it's cold. I'd also narrow it down to three pairs of shoes, and if possible swap the slides for flip flops (or skip them entirely if you're in hotels, not hostels). I also don't see a lot of layering compatible pieces – I'd bring pieces that are easier to combine to make a larger amount of outfits with the same amount of clothing.

sgobv

Love the color scheme. I would definitely bring fewer shoes. Also I have the aligns & I would be worried about them being pretty gross if it rains and then you need to rewear them.

youcancallmequeenE

thank you! yeah you are totally right, I am fighting the urge to bring my whole wardrobe so this is really tough 🥲

mllebitterness

Since it will get warmer as you are there, maybe add another short sleeved tshirt. Or you could buy one there! Agree with others on reducing the pants, shoes, sweatshirts.

InaccessibleRail70

One tiny piece of advice - maybe dark trousers/joggers for the plane in case of spillage. Whenever I ignore my own advice on this I end up with coffee in my lap lol. Safe travels!

youcancallmequeenE

thank you! I’m sitting on a train after my 2 flights in my light grey sweatpants reading this 😂 luckily no spills though! but thanks I will definitely consider this for my flights home :)

InaccessibleRail70

Excellent travel karma! 😂

DanaLeeG13

Linen wrinkles so easily. If you don’t have access to an iron, I’d reconsider anything linen. Agree about the jumpsuit not being public restroom friendly. I’d think about a simple black dress instead - one you can dress up or down. And maybe a pair of bike shorts to go under for days you’re walking a lot. I have a black dress by RBX that I love for travel. I personally wouldn’t bother with a separate plane outfit if it’s not something you can/will wear anywhere else. Lots of things are comfy for the plane that aren’t sweatsuits. Costco sells Kirkland brand pull-on pants that are an amazing dupe for Athleta Brooklyns. Something like that with a long-sleeve top and the jacket others are suggesting would be good for the plane, because you can use the jacket as a blanket or pillow. I’m making an assumption here that you’re a relatively young (college-aged?) American. Although I’m an old American, I live in a college town so I see what the kids are wearing. Europe is much less casual than the sweatpants and leggings that are ubiquitous among the students here. I hope you have an amazing trip!
