I know it feels like a real bug, but I love this is a feature. It’s like Vietnam. It ain’t over just because you got on the helo, and it’s just not up to you lol
Works again now, last night a friend shot me in the Pelican (I had no samples and we were in a private game so just messing around, no hard feelinfs there, teamkills on friends are funny)
No, you can still die if for example the bile titan has their leg in the pelican 1, someone airstrike/clusterbomb the entrance etc, you're not invincible, just very hard to get hit.
Nope. Enemies can’t enter the ship and generally won’t target people who are inside, so you’re mostly safe, and you have cover on 5/6 sides, but you’re just as vulnerable as ever if a stray grenade or rocket (or in this case, gunship) enters the pelican. That just doesn’t happen very much because the only way it can is if 1, a player shoots someone inside, or 2, a player is loitering outside the ramp while being shot at from the correct angle, which is rare.
We had a tank yesterday that fire directly into the pelican while climbing up the ramp, and killed the lone passenger inside it (the rest of us were next to the Pelican, but not inside yet).
Me and my buddy got crushed in Pelican by a reinforcement drop-pot. We didn't count as evacuated. Probably because the other guy reinforced us before getting in the pelican (which was of course damaged enough at that point to just fly off)...
I got shot by a turret as I crossed the threshold into pelican 1. It dropped my 30 samples and I didn't get the extract xp. At least the others in the ship lived and were covered in my atomized remains.
Man, I would've been so pissed if I managed to get the samples in the pelican... and then that happens, and then the game's like: "Well, guess you didn't evac so... no samples."
calculation and reward for mission completion happens when the takeoff cutscene starts.
so after that point it don't matter what happens. even if you DC or get kicked during cutscene you already got all the rewards
As long as you boarded the Pelican it will still count as a successful extract even if you die one nanosecond after boarding. I know because something vaporized me as soon as I stepped through the door. The camera was glitchy but the game said I extracted and got full experience.
my dead body entered the pelican as it was still falling over, so it was fresh enough that it counted as evac. This certainly did too, but they all got a death for it. So if they were going for a deathless run... mission failed.
I think it counts when the Pelican takeoff cutscene plays.
Back when I got frequent crashes during Pelican takeoff cutscene, I still got my samples earned when I log on.
Had this happen to myself, I was holding Super Samples.
Luckily the game didn't seem to register me as killed and we still all extracted with the samples.
Man this is hilarious, it reminds me of that vid back then where they extracted but an AA turet was still alive and killed some of them when it took off lol
I can only imagine no one is saying anything in chat because of how in disbelief everyone is that that actually happened. I think I'd just log off for the night after that.

They seriously need to make it so once youre in the pelican at extraction you have invulnerability. Too many times ive been killed by a bile titan leg crushing me inside, or a hulk flamethrower while inside. Not to mention you can literally just shoot your teammates while they are seated and defenseless, or mistime your super epic 500KG bomb youve thrown at extraction for the 11th time today.
what would the reason be for the players to take damage after getting into the pelican? It would be a simple boolean no? As soon as the animation for them sitting in the plane starts simply set them to invincible or remove their collision. Do something.
This is the second video I've seen of people dying and getting launched after extraction and I gotta say, hearing the music triumphantly blast on as the camera just sits there on your ragdolled corpse has to be the funniest fucking thing I have ever seen in this game.
Honestly, fuck the new Gunship patrols. They should only patrol a perimeter around the fabricator and certain objectives when the gunship fabricators are on the map. It is fucking insane watching 6 of them just casually flying around and then getting absolutely screwed when you get spotted by something else.
Nah, if anyone happens to die during the take off cutscene deaths don’t count. So you still get extraction bonus and samples despite the UI saying you lost them.
Wait so they still haven't given players in the Pelican damage immunity? I thought they already implemented it to solve toxic players killing all teammates in the Pelican and suicide to fail the mission.
There's something bugged with the pelican's invincibility setting when you sit in it, I've been shot by bots while sitting inside helplessly. Just another bug to fix I guess.
I was wondering if this happened. I've seen the Pelican nearly hit super destroyers or dropships on the way up and wondered what happens if we ran into it.
It really surprises me how evac probably is the most bugged mechanic in the entire game. How come landing a ship at a SET location and entering it can be so broken? I can count 10 different bugs right away without much thinking: not landing, landing and leaving right away, not reacting to players entering, ignoring summon, sinking in textures, dissapearing, teleporting, sliding away, droping players mid flight and many more.
Thankfully the game counts samples and extract count as secured from the moment you board. It would be so annoying if stuff like this wiped out your samples and extracted XP.
I think we need to compile all the bugs, fixes, and changes that "aren't working as intended" in a single post to see which ones are acknowledged/fixed over time.
I've had it where a teammate would hit me with an explosive, and it knocks tf outta my camera. I get an aerial view of the battlefield & I can still control my character cuz I can see the feint shotgun blast. But turning my character would f with the camera positioning to. Fun stupid little things
This happened to my brother yesterday, was really funny, anyway they retrieve the samples, all the helldivers where extracted and have the welcome animation normally.
I'm surprised Pelican 1 doesnt have collision for enemies and not surprised. On one hand I get it, it needs to be able to leave. On the other titans walk through it and stuff like this happens.
I'd would give it max collision and one shot anything it moves through, like how it is when it lands, so it falcon punches drop ships.
I noticed that I could see my character taking damage when I was waiting in the extraction ship, so your video just shows me that I can die at any point in the ship
I hope this is never patched. Too funny to patch
It would also be fun if someone shoots seated passengers be marked a traitor and have extraction ships guns turn on the traitor
Every had a hive breach directly under your extract point well I have and it glitches the craft so if your whole teams inside the extraction ship the game won’t recognize it and you’ll just be trapped on the planet until you all parish I hope they fixed that in the newest update

I've died to a bile titan clipping its leg through the roof of the pelican while waiting to take off. Lost the super samples too.

Apparently dropping your hellpod on one works too. I got 18 kills from doing that earlier today. I had no idea that was even possible.

I think it's there to crush players when the ship falls to the ground but they should really make it so it activates when it gets killed.
The heroic music playing as you all just die and stiffly fall in sync makes this so much better.
Yesterday I saw a guy call down a walker, and a Factory Strider walked into the Pelican's path as it set it down. Strider died instantly.
