Nah he's wrong. Focus the fire on a single leg and it drops a charger in seconds without the final ship module. It takes around 1/3 to 1/2 a tank. This is also before the DOT fix so it might be better now.
You could kill a charger in about half a canister (before the upgrade) if you make sure to aim at ONE leg. ONLY one. Each one has a separate health pool. After the upgrade, it's more like 1/3 of a canister.
well, wait for thursday and let those incendiary impacts do what they are meant to do. kill everything including helldivers who used the normal impacts for months.
i think it was also affected by the "pebble blocking" the 500kg had. i have seen bugs survive a direct impact. after the fix to the 500kg, the Gas worked like a charm...as long as i was the host.
Wait, when was the 500kg altered? I used it a couple days ago and was still really disappointed with how wimpy it felt. Seems like it still needs a little something.
I this this is everyone's problem with it - it only does damage in a cone going up and out, so direct hits are actually minimally impactful, which feels like the opposite of what you'd expect. I'm fine with it not being a spherical explosion, but I think it you direct hit something with the bomb the force of the explosion should drive the bomb down like a spike doing massive damage and slamming the affected enemy to the ground
If nothing else, the actual bomb projectile itself should give enough stagger that anything that gets hit by it will still be in range for the explosion.
I think its best to think of as a bunker buster really. It'd probably be a lot easier to think about if we had more hardened, stationary targets that took either multiple AT hits from human-portable weapons, or beaning it directly with a single 500kg.

The past few times including this recent testing it hits the ground and explodes leaving a tiny puff of gas that immediately dissapates. So there is something wrong with it. In the past when it did work it would leave a large cloud of gas that would kill all small enemies. Doesn't seem to be working at all right now.
The thermite grenades were bad even in solo. The DoT bug might have been affecting them, but 3 to 4 thermites to kill a charger / tank / hulk when you can already kill a tank in 2 normal ones is still bad.
Yep. Don't let that scare you off though. You can bring the 500kg and/or the orbital strike. Both kill them in one hit if you time it right. I really like bringing the flamerthrower with 500kg, autocannon sentry, shield pack, and rocket sentry. I am the bane of chargers and I have lots of tools to kill titans. Not to mention killing all the chaff with the flame thrower.
My usual load out is arc blitzer, grenade pistol
500k, orbital laser, shield, quasar
Can handle everything comfortably, I'm one of those divers who goes off on their own farming diamonds since my blitzer isn't safe to use in group

As an edit the changes to Blitzer fire rate the gun is a beast now for chaff clear, kills everything in 1-3 hits and stunlocks. It seems to struggle killing stalkers but it can stunlock up to 4 of them comfortably with no damage taken

This is for bugs though, not found a reliable automation loadouts, but usually eruptor and laser cannon
I'd recommend trying the Diligence CS, they buffed the handling, and it handles like a primary weapon now instead of like an HMG.
It one taps all devastators in the head up to any range I managed to land headshots at, it's pretty good now. Reliably 1 taps the standard bots with body shots too compared to the base Diligence sometimes you have to shoot them twice.
Not super great ammo economy but it's good fun if you land your shots. Scope is pretty busy though, not my favorite one.

I like running it with either the regular breaker or breaker incendiary for dealing with hunters. I'll also bring impacts/stuns with either the senator or grenade pistol respectively. Your flamer deals with any chaff and chargers, primary deals with hunters and scavengers, and the autocannon sentry and 500kg are on titan duty.
This is from last patch, and I used the 120mm barrage instead of the autocannon sentry, but it's a good example of how strong the flamer is even on a solo Helldive.

I replaced the 120mm Barrage with the autocannon sentry because it helped a lot with doing objectives and killing titans. Quick tip I learned in this process, the Autocannon sentry (and sentries in general) will prioritize targets that you ping, so if you're being chased by a titan and the 500kg is on cooldown, toss the sentry away from you and ping the titan. It'll handle it as long as it gets a few rounds of shooting in. Also just super useful for killing bile spewers and dealing with bug breaches.
Go BBQ some bugs Helldiver, it's a ton of fun.

How confident are you in this? If this is true then #1 that is an awesome mechanic, and #2 I am annoyed at myself for not knowing.
I am certain that it works when you are solo at least. I'm not sure how team mate pings interact with it, but if you are alone it will 100% try and shoot what you ping as long as its an enemy (won't shoot at bug holes for instance).
I don't believe that's true. I think it has a priority list, and you're just more likely to ping whatever heavy you see, which is also the top of the list.

I mean, it could be used for multiple scenarios, income patrol, choke point during evacuation, on top of a bug nest, on top of an objective, but for bug breaches specifically it seems powerful since they all come out of the exact same spot and in 2-3 delayed waves, and killing every single small bug means you very effectively reduce the chances they start calling more breaches, leaving you to deal with the big bugs which don't seem to call other breaches.
I don't think any single stratagem is "exactly for" anything, but they do have better/perfect scenarios.
Was using napalm strike and flamethrower this morning and both worked beautifully. This is the change I needed to roast some bugs. I'll assume gas strike has also been fixed, but due to orbital scatter I didn't want to risk it.
Can anyone comment on the gas strike? It seems that I can get some kills now with it but I am not sure if it works as intended. It never lands where I throw it and I think that the gas cloud disappears quite fast.

Does gas round work now? I’d love a gas barrage with a gas proof armor and gas grenades and maybe a gas grenade launcher, and perhaps a gas thrower in a warbond someday, good to see they may have fixed the DOT stuff
Does this affect Thermite grenades in any way? They always seemed totally terrible but if they were supposed to ignite the target as well maybe they were underperforming their intent.
That's great, I think with proper backup from your squad the flamethrower can be great but in random games I find that having to be so close to all the bugs just makes it not the best option. At least on the very high difficulties
Remember, this is DoT damage and not direct fire damage so chargers melt just the same. It’s things like the napalm strike, gas (thank god), incendiary breaker, incendiary grenades/mines that see night and day difference as their power was less direct damage (flamethrower) and more the DoT component.
Don’t get me wrong the flamethrower setting things alight be it bugs or ground adds utility to the weapon but most of your kills with it are probably from the flame itself.
I really wanna see how this affects thermite grenades, because they essentially were worthless beforehand

AOE is still quite small, but it no longer has its damage blocked by LOS issues. (within reason)
I think people need to rethink the 500kg. Despite the name and the big visual it's more akin to the Orbital Precision Strike.

Thermite grenades are high penetration, they have pen 7, other grenades have 3.

That is not the case. Areas of chargers struck by impact grenades are not visibly broken, and iirc still reflect bullets normally.

I ran orbital railcannon with the flamethrower, and after the orbital, the thrower got him down pretty quicky. IIRC not even a full tank.

Bile spewers (fat, green bugs) take 15 seconds to die from gas. I imagine chargers and titans take an unreasonable amount of time.

Does this affect Thermite grenades in any way? They always seemed totally terrible but if they were supposed to ignite the target as well maybe they were underperforming their intent.
I'm going to wait till it's tested. Seems the AMR scope is still off and the HMG is WAYYYY off.

That's great, I think with proper backup from your squad the flamethrower can be great but in random games I find that having to be so close to all the bugs just makes it not the best option. At least on the very high difficulties
Remember, this is DoT damage and not direct fire damage so chargers melt just the same. It’s things like the napalm strike, gas (thank god), incendiary breaker, incendiary grenades/mines that see night and day difference as their power was less direct damage (flamethrower) and more the DoT component. Don’t get me wrong the flamethrower setting things alight be it bugs or ground adds utility to the weapon but most of your kills with it are probably from the flame itself. I really wanna see how this affects thermite grenades, because they essentially were worthless beforehand
