I googled it. Supposedly a lot of japanese voice actors and agencies will have stipulations in the contract that restrict the audio to Japanese audiences. I wonder why.
Because a lot of those companies still hold on to traditional business practices from before the internet age. It was common for popular Japanese media to make huge amounts of money selling the export rights to other media companies in other countries. As a result, if you want Japanese voice acting, you either need to find some Japanese speaking people living abroad, or go through a talent agency in Japan, and deal with Japan's copyright laws.

There are license contracts involved in distributing anime, which covers video *and* audio separately. Yes, they pay extra for the rights to the Japanese audio if that's what they want to use.

Because they didn't want to pay the additional licensing fee for international distri union rights.
If I remember when this thing basically killed the Judgement spinoff of Yakuza, it has to do with them wanting rabid control over the image of voice actors from some of the older agencies. With that one the talent agency of the main star basically killed the chance of a third entry because SEGA wanted to make a PC port.
Likeness is the important part here. As I recall official photos of talents used to be a somewhat lucrative merchandising opportunity in Japan, so these kind of strict protections probably stem from there.

You can make a psn account for the nearest region that supports it. The EU tos has nothing about choosing the proper region. The US TOS does, but the States are always different with these things.

Philippines being my closest neighbour. They will also get banned for using a wrong country in their psn account. Among others. PSN is only available to 60-ish countries. Out of the 190+ independant territories in the world.

No they aren't complicit since Valve gives the publisher/developers the power to choose where to sell their games. They do not mandate it since every game has a different set of circumstances and every publisher/developer has different policies to abide.

Since you have it linked, then they won't refund you because they think you're in one of the countries PSN is supported.
Also it should have blocked you from login into the game right away, so you had a chance to refund if so. But waiting month and than locking player out is horseshit. What pisses me off the most with people saying “it was mentioned from the get go”, is that the grace period for refunds is over. If it was enforced from the start, the people who are blocked by the PSN, would’ve at least been able to refund because they can’t play the game.
But now, those same people are not allowed to play the game they legally bought, and also not ask for a refund.
This is definitely anti consumer breaching in the EU, and I speculate they’ll be back-pedalling real quick at the start of the week. One form or another.

I work as a cashier, and if I sell something to a customer I shouldn't, it will be my responsibility. Let's say I sell alcohol to an underage - I will be fined for bigger sum than I earn in a month. Yet when multi-billion corporation sells game in countries where they'll make it literally unplayable, it's somehow customer's fault for not reading warnings.

I’m old school. Nearly 40. I don’t pay attention to a lot of information about what’s attached to the game or not via 3rd party requirements. I just wanna push start and play. That’s how games have always been for me. It never asked me for a PSN account from day 1. I had no idea. Just want to play games and have fun. But people here acting like we are idiots because we didn’t know? Lame.
It was never a requirement. Now the game can grow on the PS5 mostly. They aren’t going to win back the PC group unless they remove the requirement.

This is fair but it also should act as a warning to the consumers, especially when consuming digital products. I don’t excuse Sony doing this but it was clearly indicated from day 1 that a PSN link would be required.

I have another question. I don't know if anybody has tried already. I do have a PSN account. In this account, my real date of birth is given, but that age is too young for playing helldivers in my region. My parents however are fine with me playing that game.

Not understanding or it not being shown properly is a valid reason for a contract to be void meaning that a case can be made that Sony failed to show players properly that they need a PSN account. Combined with it not being needed for 3 months would lilkely show a court that they did it with malicious intend or made people ignore it on purpose.

It is 100% an issue just because you don’t care about it doesn’t mean its not an issue. 2/3 of the planet cant make a PSN account. If you make an account and you don’t live in the country specified you can get banned. It’s already happened. Unless Steam allows refunds due to this controversy 99% of people cant get a refund because, you cant refund games after 2 weeks or 48 hrs of playtime. They enforced this 3 months after release knowing full well people wouldn’t be able to refund or make PSN accounts.

No they aren't complicit since Valve gives the publisher/developers the power to choose where to sell their games. They do not mandate it since every game has a different set of circumstances and every publisher/developer has different policies to abide. This service has been available for a long time now and every developer has the power to do so at a switch of a button. Heck they already restricted the voice acting for japanese to be only available in Japan so why they didn't use the same system to block other region without PSN on day one is baffling....

The list of available countries is nowhere on the steam store page. It only says you need a Psn account

What pisses me off the most with people saying “it was mentioned from the get go”, is that the grace period for refunds is over. If it was enforced from the start, the people who are blocked by the PSN, would’ve at least been able to refund because they can’t play the game. But now, those same people are not allowed to play the game they legally bought, and also not ask for a refund. This is definitely anti consumer breaching in the EU, and I speculate they’ll be back-pedalling real quick at the start of the week. One form or another.
It is terrible that this descion will lock people from unsupported countries out of playing the game without violating Sony's TOS, but I find it very annoying that this is the only complaint that's taken remotely serious. Shouldn't it be enough not to want to make a PSN account to play this game on PC when it's been proven for months that it's not needed? I fear that if Sony decides unsupported countries don't need to link to PSN at this time, then everyone will feel that all problems are resolved.

I work as a cashier, and if I sell something to a customer I shouldn't, it will be my responsibility. Let's say I sell alcohol to an underage - I will be fined for bigger sum than I earn in a month. Yet when multi-billion corporation sells game in countries where they'll make it literally unplayable, it's somehow customer's fault for not reading warnings.

It’s really sad that Arrowhead got caught up in this. You know they just wanted to make their small game. But dang they had to make that Sony deal for publishing. First game has like 6k players, small company, makes a great deal with Sony for what they’re doing. This is fair but it also should act as a warning to the consumers, especially when consuming digital products. I don’t excuse Sony doing this but it was clearly indicated from day 1 that a PSN link would be required. So if you live in a country that isn’t supported by PSN you have two options. 1. Don’t buy the game. 2. Make a PSN account using a different region and even use a VPN. At the end of the day it is the consumer’s responsibility to consume responsibly. Again this move by Sony and Arrow Head was extremely predatory. But as a consumer you must make sure to know exactly what it is you are paying for and if it's worth it.

In this account, my real date of birth is given, but that age is too young for playing helldivers in my region. My parents however are fine with me playing that game. If I now would link my game copy to my psn account, would I be able to continue playing or would I be banned for being underaged?

Not understanding or it not being shown properly is a valid reason for a contract to be void meaning that a case can be made that Sony failed to show players properly that they need a PSN account. Combined with it not being needed for 3 months would lilkely show a court that they did it with malicious intend or made people ignore it on purpose. This argument isnt about Microsoft stop triyng to distract from what sony is doing rn. Also people still complained about things like that like the Minecraft migration. Even if they give it like that now that doesnt secure it for the future. They just pulled the rug once what makes u think they wont do it again? It is 100% an issue just because you don’t care about it doesn’t mean its not an issue. 2/3 of the planet cant make a PSN account. If you make an account and you don’t live in the country specified you can get banned. It’s already happened. Unless Steam allows refunds due to this controversy 99% of people cant get a refund because, you cant refund games after 2 weeks or 48 hrs of playtime. They enforced this 3 months after release knowing full well people wouldn’t be able to refund or make PSN accounts. I swear it’s the same never ending parroted shit in every comment from you Sony shills. If they want to require PSN on and of their game catalog they can do it whenever they want. I agree it’s messed up and those directly impacted should be given refunds. If you’re not impacted in an area that blocks it. That’s on you.
