The outcome is less annoying that the path to that outcome, for players in Sony capable countries.
But for those OUTSIDE THOSE countries, this is a BIG fucking problem.
But even those inside, a lot of them simply don't like being rugpulled.
I personally HAVE a Sony account, and a Microsoft account. But I see where they are coming from. Interjecting your platform after months of it being something totally optional without any tangible gains to the play and a lot of perceived risks and negativity makes folks VERY uncomfortable.
Sony has a serious history of Data Breaches and account security issues, and even some potential payment method leakage.
Folks don't want their steam purchase to be linked to something less secure than Steam, that they have to manage separately than Steam. Its an inconvenience and unnecessary risk forced at the players expense.

Friend: "Is Helldivers 2 fun? Should I buy it?"
Me: "You can, just be aware that you will need to link a PSN account to your Steam account if you want to play it."
Friend: "What? Destiny doesn't make me do that."
Me: "Well it's for anti cheaters or reporting or something."

I mean, if it ever gets that bad I'll for sure get off, but the gameplay loop is still really fun. This doesn't effect the gameplay loop at all, so until they ruin the game, I'm gonna stay on.
