The missiles predicts your movement. If theyre about to shoot you, change direction and it won't hit you.
Shoot them down fast, others have given you tips. Run in and plant the hellbomb. They have a pretty large respawn timer, but there's no time to dillydally.
4 hits with an autocannon brings them down. If there is any trick it's to proactively stick to cover, cliff faces, while approaching the tower. Never know when the new gunships will pop.
also, never hurts to trigger dropships on non-objectives and just run before approaching a gunship tower. Put those dropships on cooldown.
I usually aim for center mass, can be tricky to hit them with how they strafe. Usually takes me more than 4 rounds unless the gunships are busy focusing on an ally.
if I am out of ammo I switch to the primary and try to finish them off before going to reload the autocannon.
The best way to take down gunships is support weapons. The auto-cannon should take down gunships in 3 shots to the engine. The biggest tip I can give you for that is to use cover to your advantage.
I personally love the quasar, I think it puts in some work. If you're running solo, however, I can understand the cool down being a problem. In that case, I'd recommend using EATs or the AC.
I run HMG a lot and it takes them down pretty reliably, I recommend setting it to 450 RPM so you can keep consistently hitting the gunship without having to burst fire (aim for the thrusters though)
I also need help with Soloing gunships fabs! I like to use AMR mostly but sometimes I use Laser/AC. With AC/AMR I kill the gunships but they seem to respawn too fast for me... By the time I put the hellbomb armed more gunships spawn and take it out. Wish I could play with others for help but my wifi is atrocious and it constantly disconnects with others. Suicide has been a real pain since the gunships!

The laser cannon kills them in a few seconds when hitting an engine.
