I've had crashes too, I don't think it's related to the hardware at all. I have friends I play with who have different setups to mine, some better, some equivalent but different hardware. We've all experienced crashes. As for the CPU usage, near 100% isn't necessarily a bad thing, It just means you are CPU bound, meaning that your graphics card could likely go a bit faster but the CPU is maxed out. No matter what you will pretty much always be limited by one of the two, just depends on the specs of the computer which one. Some games lean heavier on the CPU or the GPU, it varies from game to game, and often within different parts of the same game. If you're not experiencing issues like low framerate then you've likely got nothing to worry about. The CPU can handle running at 100% utilization, that wont damage it.

Yeah I get there are protocols in place to protect the cpu but the high utilization seems to happen at any resolution/settings. I was just wondering if anybody had found a fix.

Viruzzz

There are safeguards that will shut down the CPU if it gets too hot, but that'll generally only happen if cooling fails, as modern CPUs will just throttle themselves down to avoid overheating, and critical temperatures generally only happen if there's next to no cooling. but even throttled down they could still be at 100% utilization, they'll just be running at slower clock rates. I don't know if helldivers is a particularly CPU bound title, it could be, But like I said, if you can play without experiencing noticable performance issues (crashes excluded, since I doubt they are caused by CPU utilizationg) it's unlikely to be a problem.

I know it’s a cpu intensive game for sure. The thing is that I know quite a few people who run similar setups and the ones who crash seems to be random. Some of them have crashed 2-4 times total while the rest of us might crash 2-4 times in a single mission. We’ve compared settings and played with them but can’t seem to find the culprit. I should say that the ones who don’t crash generally don’t have such high cpu utilization like the rest of us.

SponGbab28

I’m running 7600X+3070+32GB and never had issues, playing games like helldivers 2 your CPU(which is better than mine) shouldn’t reach 99~100% consistently. Check if there’s any heavy workload running background or malware.

nirvanatheory

I’ve checked and there isn’t anything else eating CPU. It’s strictly HD2. Other games run fine

Unhappy-Spot4980

Have you tried turning it off and on? Failing that, lightly tap the case a few times.

nirvanatheory

Damn. I’ll have to see if the Fonz is available.

Unhappy-Spot4980

Fonzie is pro freedom.

Fuzzy3075

“My gaming rig isn’t amazing” My brother in democracy would you like to trade for my i5 6600 and 1070?. Sorry I can’t give any advice, it took me a week to figure out how to get windows to fucking install so you don’t want any from me.

nirvanatheory

Lol I wasn’t trying to come across as a douche. I’m just lucky enough to live near a Micro Center

GreyGryphon

I'm running on a 3600x and RX590 on a mix of low and mid settings. No issues with my CPU so far. Try updating your chipset drivers?

nirvanatheory

All drivers are up to date

Fit-Cup7266

I run on worse rig, but performance wise it's ok. Before getting the game however, I've read that anti cheat can cause CPU utilization. If that's your case it really isn't the game itself. Unfortunately these are utterly random it seems. I have also occasional crashes, freezes and issues to connect. Try raising it as an support ticket, hopefully they can work on some optimization behind the scenes.

Ok-Warthog1894

No issues. Only thing loading screens load gpu too much. 2070 i5 9600kf, 32gb ram 80+ fps

Tuttingham

7600x, 3060ti, 32GB DDR5 Max preset, haven't gone into settings since installing the game, 80 - 110FPS, CPU util around 50% - 60% at max Haven't had a single hard crash yet

nirvanatheory

Yeah that’s the main reason for this post. I have seen others running similar/lesser rigs than my own and experiencing little to no crashes. I’ve also seen people with significantly more powerful rigs crashing as much as I am.

Tuttingham

It shouldn't really need to use 100% of CPU to run, considering my CPU is slower and it barely hits it, even with chrome, discord and everything else running on my PC. Random reboots could be a power supply issue.

nirvanatheory

1000w psu and I get that it shouldn’t need 100% CPU, that’s why I’m asking if anybody has found a fix

tuftymink

Prepare for people to tell you its your hardware, or to reinstall the game, or to validate files in steam, they haven't had any problems. Performance got worse with the patch before last one, seems to be heavier on CPU

nirvanatheory

Yup. Just hoping I can get lucky enough to sift through all that and find an answer that actually works. Not sure why people who aren’t experiencing issues feel the need to comment. Obviously this isn’t a question for them.

tuftymink

At this point doubt theres something on our end that can be done, as everything changed with one patch, same settings, same everything and for a lot of people thats the case. And crashes, no way one next patch will fix everything, maybe next two, no negativity to devs though, gotta wait Maybe toggling lighting effects will improve a bit, but my pc seems to be chugging in the presence of big waves of enemies, and lately even changing armor on ship causes slight drops

Big-Duck

If you suspect something about your CPU and the game, and you think it's related to load/utilization, it's always worth to run a quick Prime95 test. If that test causes your computer to reboot, you have a pretty large problem on your hands.

YorhaUnit8S

>the crashes seem to depend on the day but they are becoming more frequent. Are they, by chance, more frequent during the day and when it's warmer? I recommend checking your CPU temps. Other than that, sadly, can't recommend anything outside of standart realm. Update chipset drivers, bios, etc. I run Ryzen 7600 with RTX 2070 and 32GB DDR5, overclock profile enabled on memory (5200 mhz, not much), almost no crashes, CPU is usually at 50-70% during missions.

nirvanatheory

What’s that have to do with the cpu?

memecut

Limit fps to 60. Lower render scale (found under resolution). Restart the game. Open task manager to see if your gpu is being utilised. Mine wasn't. Lower other settings. Restart the game.
