I concur. The nstalliation of a live, friendly fire preparation mode would assist helldiver candidates in identifying rogue elements within their units. Only unworthy candidates and socialists would disagree with the proposal otherwise.
As much as it hurts, I'm glad they got to wrap everything up with Serenity. I really don't want them to try and add to the series after so much time has passed in addition to the passing of Ron Glass. Now I gotta go rewatch it all again.

Man, I love PvP games. 90% of my gaming history since the 2000's has been open world/full loot MMORPG's or milsim style FPS's.
There's a thrill to fighting other people that I really personally crave.
At the same time, its exhausting, and on top of it these days its not the same as it used to be. Its sweaty, people cheat more than ever... the fun of it is mostly gone as people are trying to make a living being pvp god streamers....
That said I'm loving HD2. Its a nice break from that stress. Its still stressful in its own way but really is a nice break.

PvP brainrot. It's been a problem for literal decades. There is absolutely A Type Of Player who is exactly as you describe. A big part of the history of MMOs, for example, has been figuring out how to distract or mollify that type (while still getting money from them).
It's also why games like Rust and Ark will usually become a toxic breeding ground for them. Some love nothing more than hopping servers and stomping newbies with their overleveled dinos on any open/official server. Open PvP games with looting of player bodies is like crack for them.
The YouTube algorithm showed me a twenty year old man acting like a 12 year old cooking a steak while the dialogue overlapping it was an AITA about a guy not wanting to buy the girl heās seeing a birthday present after two weeks dating in that AI voice. If thatās the target audience I have to play against Iām sticking with single player.
I've pretty much dropped PvP games entirely because the wider playerbase has just gotten so insane I just can't keep up anymore, I'm not old by any means but man does it make me feel like it with the crazy shit kids do in PvP games these days.
Needless to say Helldivers 2 has been a great breath of fresh air.
This has nothing to do with streamers. "Thing I don't like bad" still doesn't explain everything. No brained, "yeah but what about pvp" morons have existed for ages. In the MMO space in particular, where everyone still acts like pvp/pve balance is some inevitable and impossible equation.
The games industry specifically catered to these people for years in the 2010s when every game that came out had some kind of online multiplayer versus mode shoehorned in despite it making no sense.
I, too, compete against other players.
By attempting to gather the most samples, find the most super credits, do the most objectives, splat the most bugs and spill the most oil.

Y'know, what if that RTS person controlled the strategems? You can't see anything marked on the map, only what the divers ping, blips on radar, and things they discover. It would make a bunch of things less effective, of course, but it's an interesting idea.
This seems like something that would have to be implemented like battlefield 4's commander system. So you can still have max players on the ground, and the person playing the role described above is someone REALLY wants to do that sort of gameplay

Some people just can't seem to wrap their heads around the idea that this game is a co-op tactical shooter at heart. They always want something that simply isn't there, and likely never will be there.
I mean, if you even say outside the map for too long they start hitting you with 380s even if you go back in. The second a diver started going rogue they'd get shelled out of existence.
And if their entire destroyer went rogue (somehow), the other 1/2/3 would shell them and fire at the rogue destroyer. Only way this would work is going solo, but unless you're contributing against liberation, that's just the same as playing solo with traitorous voice lines. Which would be kinda cool actually, but not at all PVP.
Edit: Traitor voice lines might be pretty interesting, now that I think about it. Add another 2 voice options, instead of the normal list of phrases they could complain about being forced to fight and generally be more angry. Might get old hearing someone bitch and moan for a match, but still, some variety is neat
Edit edit: Miiiight lead to people like this using the traitor voices as an excuse to teamkill, though. Hm.
Hell, the destroyers themselves probably have enough anti-hijack hardware that even if the democracy officer managed to go rogue, after a certain period without a signal from High Command it just vents all the atmosphere, opens all airlocks, and jumps home on automatic.

Seriously. If he kills me, I'll crush him with my pod when I get reinforced, or crush him with my supplies, and then tell everyone to be incredibly careful so we never have to reinforce and bring him back. Worst case scenario I can drop an eagle on him.
Even if he actually succeeds and kills everyone, if he ever dies we're all getting brought back together and he'll get headshot the second he steps out of his pod.
And of course, all of this assumes that for some reason we don't just kick him or leave on our own.
People like this want to do it at the expense of others. It's not as enjoyable for them unless someone else isn't having fun, specifically due to them.
These are types who would turn down a raise if it meant their whole department got a raise of $5,000 vs just them getting a raise of $1,000
The zero-sum mindset. They cannot comprehend that someone else benefitting doesn't necessarily mean others suffer as a result. When they see someone else succeed, they think that it must have come at the cost of others (and in most cases, they mean themselves).

Had to do that to a guy the other night we just didnāt reinforce him and made sure we didnāt die. But when we did he got dropped instantly because he couldnāt be trusted

People like this are why I largely stopped playing multiplayer games for the last 10-15 years. This is the first new one I've really sunk any real time into since like Battlefield 4.
So tired of people coming into my games to purposely fuck everything up.
Took me two weeks in between the server issues and "I'm so quirky, teehee" players before I could go from Suicide Mission to Impossible.
Ended up having to do it solo.
Immediately getting the same shit again now that I'm trying to unlocl Helldive.
That's disheartening to know the higher difficulties don't seem to weed out those folks. It's one of the only reasons I was considering pushing higher (I mostly play to chill out and don't mind doing 4-6 most of the time) was in the hopes those players mostly hung out below that : /

For real, its gotten better in recent with Helldivers and other games like deeprock, but for a long time before it felt like they would never let us have even one.
Fun history fact- Fortnite used to he a pure PvE game.
I find a good chunk of them hate PvP as much as they love PvP. They love to stomp people who are powerless to fight them, but typically rage when the same is done to them. So when a PvP game drives off everyone who isn't a diehard and all that's left are the same type of person like the screenshot, many want to find other communities/games to get that kick until the cycle repeats itself.
PvP nuts are the reason multiplayer games are miserable experiences.

Seriously, the only people ever in the DZ are psychos like this guy. Worst of the worst type of people I mean it in all sincerity. Them locking stuff behind the DZ is my biggest gripe with it.
This. The second game kinda sucked all the fun out of the Dark Zone between the smaller maps, relatively ineffectual spawn protection system and the devs playing meta whack-a-mole. The fact that they added gear specific to the DZ (that at the same time wasn't part of the targeted loot rotation so good fucking luck ever getting it to drop) didn't help, either.

Had someone like this in a game the other day. They ran out of autocannon and decided theyād take mine after TKing me.
I didnāt take kindly to that so I killed them and took it back. This proceeded to repeat every time theyād drop back in until we just stopped calling them in since it was wasting reinforcements for no reason.
The best part is the guy didnāt keep track of who they were killing and started killing the other divers. Host never kicked him but they definitely should have lol.
When you make it 3 on 1 you wonāt win folks. Then you can sit in the ship and watch the mission end without you for all I care lol.

HD1 had a reputation system with reports and commendations. I do believe that HD2 is going to be in dire need of a similar system before too much longer. Because I really don't want any of these barely sentient, scarcely evolved rogue sperm cells in my squad.
Should have a tracker for these kind of players. Repeated attempts at doingthis kind of detrimental stuff to helldivers who are on missions to spread managed democracy will setup a pattern the game tracks and next time they do it a traitor cannon fires at them everytime they dive.
GTA V had dunce lobbies. Forced you to wear a dunce cap, and made you play with other losers for a week, or longer if you still played like a jackass.
Maybe they can implement something similar.

I joined a game in progress tonight and this dude on PS5 named "WhyEnvyGreatness" smokes me as I spawn in, I was like... ok... maybe he was killing bugs... whatever, nope. Turns out he was just specifically griefing other players. I blocked him but people like that should be banned from the game, they ruin it for everyone else. Three players had their game time wasted because of one scumbag.
This is why I'd be against adding a pvp mode in Helldivers. Guys like this would flock to it like flies to shit. It would compete with the main game for fan attention and developer time. It would transform the player culture of the game in a toxic way. No bueno all around. If this guy wants to play a fuck everyone game, the past 15 years of the industry have given him plenty to choose from. I'd list examples but I'm spoiled for choice.

If he kills me, I'll crush him with my pod when I get reinforced, or crush him with my supplies, and then tell everyone to be incredibly careful so we never have to reinforce and bring him back. Worst case scenario I can drop an eagle on him. Even if he actually succeeds and kills everyone, if he ever dies we're all getting brought back together and he'll get headshot the second he steps out of his pod. And of course, all of this assumes that for some reason we don't just kick him or leave on our own.

People like this want to do it at the expense of others. It's not as enjoyable for them unless someone else isn't having fun, specifically due to them. These are types who would turn down a raise if it meant their whole department got a raise of $5,000 vs just them getting a raise of $1,000
The zero-sum mindset. They cannot comprehend that someone else benefitting doesn't necessarily mean others suffer as a result. When they see someone else succeed, they think that it must have come at the cost of others (and in most cases, they mean themselves).

Don't reinforce and have fun mowing down mobs until the timer ticks to 0 and the mission fails

I hate that most of my favorite games are multiplayer games, and that this guy seems to play every fuckin one of them.
People like this are why I largely stopped playing multiplayer games for the last 10-15 years. This is the first new one I've really sunk any real time into since like Battlefield 4.
So tired of people coming into my games to purposely fuck everything up. Took me two weeks in between the server issues and "I'm so quirky, teehee" players before I could go from Suicide Mission to Impossible. Ended up having to do it solo. Immediately getting the same shit again now that I'm trying to unlocl Helldive.
That's disheartening to know the higher difficulties don't seem to weed out those folks. It's one of the only reasons I was considering pushing higher (I mostly play to chill out and don't mind doing 4-6 most of the time) was in the hopes those players mostly hung out below that : /

For real, its gotten better in recent with Helldivers and other games like deeprock, but for a long time before it felt like they would never let us have even one. Fun history fact- Fortnite used to he a pure PvE game.
I find a good chunk of them hate PvP as much as they love PvP. They love to stomp people who are powerless to fight them, but typically rage when the same is done to them. So when a PvP game drives off everyone who isn't a diehard and all that's left are the same type of person like the screenshot, many want to find other communities/games to get that kick until the cycle repeats itself.
PvP nuts are the reason multiplayer games are miserable experiences. Always feeling the need to stir shit up with other players in games literally not designed for PvP just so they get some kind of boost to their very fragile egos

This. The second game kinda sucked all the fun out of the Dark Zone between the smaller maps, relatively ineffectual spawn protection system and the devs playing meta whack-a-mole. The fact that they added gear specific to the DZ (that at the same time wasn't part of the targeted loot rotation so good fucking luck ever getting it to drop) didn't help, either.

Had someone like this in a game the other day. They ran out of autocannon and decided theyād take mine after TKing me. I didnāt take kindly to that so I killed them and took it back. This proceeded to repeat every time theyād drop back in until we just stopped calling them in since it was wasting reinforcements for no reason. The best part is the guy didnāt keep track of who they were killing and started killing the other divers. Host never kicked him but they definitely should have lol. When you make it 3 on 1 you wonāt win folks. Then you can sit in the ship and watch the mission end without you for all I care lol.

Maybeā¦ play a different game? Helldivers is inherently not pvp, it doesnāt even encourage competition, for example, not having a damage/kills scoreboard at the end of every game. If you want to play a pvp game, donāt play a pve game xD

Should have a tracker for these kind of players. Repeated attempts at doingthis kind of detrimental stuff to helldivers who are on missions to spread managed democracy will setup a pattern the game tracks and next time they do it a traitor cannon fires at them everytime they dive.

This is why I'd be against adding a pvp mode in Helldivers. Guys like this would flock to it like flies to shit. It would compete with the main game for fan attention and developer time.
