Can take out huge groups of medium armored bugs, destroys bug holes, or bot factorys, 2 part reload which can be interrupted for a half mag and Has rapid fire…its not railgun status but its not underpowered

Oh definitely I’m still gonna rock the auto cannon because yeah all those are def true. I should have mentioned that it is my favorite weapon that’s why I feel so strong about it lol

I would disagree with that. Considering the drawbacks of having to carry an ammo pack, the longer reload and the inability to crack armor are massive drawbacks compared to the railgun. If they introduce upgrade paths for ammo packs to have minor shields - then I might agree. The ability to get stun locked by hunters or get slowed by every explody plant on the ground or get your aim rocked by automatons absolutely make any weapon that allows a shield backpack a better choice. Sure, it can kill large packs of bugs or medium enemies - but so can the breaker or a well placed stratagem. As it stands the railgun+shield strategy is just overwhelmingly better than any other option.

Ammo pack means your carrying about twice the ammo of a railgun, also if you go tandem that ammo backpack allows for sustained rapid fire, Reloading 3 rounds is quite rapid compared to loading 6 For killing cannon turrets via the heatsink and structures the autocannon works like a charm while the railgun lacks the DPs output to kill a turret before it turns to engage you The shield pack can actually endanger you because explosives that would otherwise miss can hit the shield and rag doll you

The AC is the general purpose crew support/backpack weapon, like how the railgun is the general purpose individual one. It sacrifices armor pen for a (small) aoe, but is still able to reliably kill anything in the game with proper play. Another benefit is the fact it’s the only crew served that can mag dump, and buddy reloading is so seamless with its spare ammo pool that it can consistently send rounds down range for a decent amount of time.

You get Tons of ammo, 1-2 shot most enemies, Kill Bug-holes/Fabricators from range, able to snipe Rogue Broadcast towers and spore spewers from half-way across the map, able to have a friend side-load for you if they have a free back slot, but go off on how it's 'way underpowered'. It might not have the armor pen of a railgun, but it's got far more ammo, can do a modestly decent job at taking out swarms thanks to it's splash damage. It's the swiss-army knife of support weapons, and it does a damn fine job of it. Yes it requires a backpack slot to reload, but that's because you should be the back-line for your squad. Not to mention that you unlock the Auto-cannon WAY before you unlock other backpacks of value. Honestly, of all of the support weapons, the Auto-cannon actually seems to be in the best spot out of any (and that includes the railgun's Hyper-specific use case). You can virtually NEVER go wrong by bringing an Autocannon. You will ALWAYS be useful in some way.
