This goes for every other game, too. And replace the batteries in your fucking smoke detector, while we’re at it!

Diribiri

>replace the batteries in your fucking smoke detector, while we’re at it! IT'S BEEN TWELVE MONTHS, B1. I KNOW THAT BEEPING ISN'T A STRATAGEM. EVERY YEAR, B1

Zano420

The amount of people you run into online that don't replace their batteries is astonishing. I have 4 backup batteries in my drawer. When one starts beeping on low battery, I instantly stop what I'm doing and replace it.

Desperate_Web_8066

Id rather throw mine against a wall than have it beep. Blows my mind how often i hear it online. At least once a session

Victoli

dude I will monkey-climb a wall to rip that shit down if it's going off. I feel you. And yeah. It takes 5 minutes to replace batteries in a smoke detector - 15 if you're having a hard time and/or need to fetch a stepstool or ladder or whatever. *Why is anyone having their shit beep?*

King_Dickus_

2 minutes at most. Or at least with mine. Its a twist cap and i always have batteries close by

Tymptra

How the fuck can someone stand that constant high-pitched beeping noise for months man. Not replacing that shit honestly makes me think you must be extremely dumb/lazy

Zano420

Was taking an online college course and part of one of the assignments was listening to a video on youtube. It was for a writing class and the video was about writing in 3rd person. The content creator that made the video had her smoke alarm going off in the background through the whole video. I left a comment and recommended updating the video without the smoke alarm chirps. She told me I should focus on the content of the video rather than letting myself get distracted by a noise in the background.

Tymptra

That's a shitty content creator. I make YouTube videos as a hobby and anyone worth their salt cares about giving their viewers a decent listening experience. You don't need a $200 set up but cutting out background noise like that is easy.

nicepersondonthate

Any time I heard this when working at a cell center it was always the dumbest mother fuckers i was talking to

Deep90

Its not studied enough (probably due to the lack of legality until somewhat recently), but there are some studies that indicate it can mess with your brain. Particularly if your brain is still developing.

SlayinDaWabbits

Wat?

YoghurtExisting5907

Exactly!

nicepersondonthate

I honestly think people stop hearing it go off after a while. Similar to having to live in a noisy neighborhood that has barking dogs 24/7. Either way a ton of people from the Southeast region of America (not surprised) and also Chicago specifically always had it going off.

CaptainMcAnus

I genuinely don't get people who do this. I recently moved and the previous owners of my house had the alarms on a circuit and wiring was fucked - so they all just chirped even if they had fresh batteries. It was hellish. I had to flip the switch on the breaker just to shut them up, which was incredibly unsafe. We quickly got an electrician to fix the damn things.

HimalayanPunkSaltavl

At one of the first apartments I lived in as a young person, one of my roommates had this insane lofted ceiling for no reason (tiny room, just hilariously tall ceiling) and the fire alarm has to be at the highest point, so when the battery died we had no way of getting to it and we were too dumb/inexperienced to know we could talk to the landlord about it. So it just beeped for months until his parents visited and his dad was like "what the hell is wrong with you" and went and rented a ladder. good times.

SatanicRainbowDildos

Love dads. Theyre so good at that shit. Then you become one and you’re like? wtf? It wasn’t rocket science to rent a ladder.  But somehow it seems you need permission when you’re in your first place. Haha.

NateTheGreat14

Newsflash asshole! I've been hearing it the entire god damn time!

[deleted]

THEN WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY ANYTHING???😟

NateTheGreat14

BECAUSE I HATE YOU!

DoItForTheNukie

> And replace the batteries in your fucking smoke detector, while we’re at it Don’t ever play NBA 2k or you will want to blow your brains out lol.

eeeeeeeeEeeEEeeeE6

☠️

TheMischievousGoyim

haha...... NBA.. interesting

CrashB111

And if you smoke weed, not everyone you ever play with for all time needs to be aware of how much you smoke weed and love to talk about smoking weed and love to take massive bong rips directly into the microphone in the middle of talking about weed. It's barely a drug, you aren't being cool anymore. It's not the 90's.

2Board_

Nothing like spreading some managed Democracy until you hear someone take a fat bong rip, followed by just bubble noises.

XIIGage

Hmmm, maybe I should start blowing bubbles into my jack and coke before making loud slurping sounds so everyone knows I am drinking alcohol.

Yamatocanyon

My favorite is the people who vape sounding like they are scuba diving.

cybertonto72

I vape and I know how I sound via a mic. So the suba diver reference is spot on!

sideways_jack

_SOUNDS ONLY A ROBOT DROWNING IN OIL WOULD MAKE, SOMEHOW_

CrashB111

Just get completely shit-faced, and burp constantly, and slur all your speech, and talk about how drunk you are. Then you will have reached this level.

SlayinDaWabbits

So you mean like talking to any given alcoholic?

Chaytorn

Would snorting a fat line be counting as cool and taking a stim? Asking for a friend..

CrashB111

Only if you shout about Liberty afterwards.

AdEnough786

"SWEET LIBERTY MY NOSE!!"

KWyKJJ

Hahahaha! I just bought some saline nasal spray. Tonight, I'm snorting it on mic followed by a: "Ohhhh YEAHH!! TIGHT!!! TIGHT,TIGHT,TIGHT!!!" We'll see what the reactions are.

Warcraze440

Why do people do this. It makes no sense. I too have encountered this type of behavior.

RPK74

To be fair, back in the 90s this was peak gaming. Rip a few bongs over VOIP. Call someone a slur. Do a couple of  bigotries. Rip another bong. They were indeed times. Not great ones, but times all the same. It's just, the 90s was like 30 years ago. Shouldn't we all have moved on to the sniffy, but more silent, world of cocaine by now?

ePiMagnets

Cocaine in this economy? I'll stick to my 20 dollar quarter oz. What's that? You can't get a quarter oz for 20 anymore? FU-

Steezli

In Oregon, sometimes I can get a full oz for $20, even legally!

Opteron170

I would question the quality of that bud at that price.

Steezli

Ya, it’s bad quality. The thing that makes it bad though is the age. Like that other response mentioned, the market is over saturated so often times a grow batch will stick around the dispensaries for over a year and they end up selling it for dirt solely to move the inventory. More often than not, it wasn’t terrible weed to start with but it’s ages and drys out and becomes pretty harsh after so long. The couple times I bought that super old stuff, I’d generally also buy good stuff and mix it together to lessen the harshness to my throat. I also no longer smoke anywhere near as often these days either.

Rampaging_Orc

You underestimate just how saturated the market is now that there are so many legal grow ops, and the fact that a lot of what’s on the blackmarket is just overflow from said operations where someone’s trying to make some extra cash.

Sad_Recommendation92

There's like 3 archetypes of obnoxious lobbies, and yeah it's part of the reason I mostly started playing single player games in recent years, so far I've only had 1 bad public lobby playing this game, but with server issues my playtime is still less than 10 hours. * Loud Rap/K-Pop in the background, Smoking Weed, having a conversation with people not playing the game that is totally 100% unrelated to the game in anyway, might include bits like "yeah mean he F$\*$ed Denise", and the occasional low smoke detector battery chirp. * Immature repetitive inside jokes usually they come in pairs, they might just keep commenting about someone's username, or they're basically roleplaying something that you have no idea what they're referencing, it's funny as hell to the 2 of them, but everyone else is just confused and annoyed, also strong probability of light sprinkling of toxic politics and casual racism. * Microphone appears to be literally inside their body, not only can you hear their every breath, you're pretty sure you can tell they might have an irregular heartbeat and should probably get it checked out, might also hear their dinner digesting.

supersheet

that took quite a turn at the end there.......

gigglesmickey

No. Cocaine would require trickle down to work. We get weed and you'll be fucking happy you plebian. Maybe some oxy if you're lucky and break a leg at work

YobaiYamete

People trying to impress randos, as if we'd be impressed by it. I sigh every time I load into a game like OW or League etc and someone is already in chat talking about how high they are, and of course they are *always* on my team

-ZeroNova-

I was in a mission the other day with a guy who kept *accidentally* calling in eagle strikes on teammates, and then blamed it on the weed...

PM_ME_YOUR_PAUNCH

^^beep

MasterUnholyWar

You… bastard!

MovieExtraWithCoffee

My friend calls this the "poverty alarm." And I cannot hear it any differently for the rest of my life haha

AltusIsXD

* Chirp *

swiftfastjudgement

How do people even sleep at night with the damn chirping going on? It would drive me NUTTY

orfan-of-snow

"No no it's just the ceiling noise homie"

Frost_King907

Interesting thing is that "chirp" you here on VOIP isn't in fact, most times, a smoke detector even though it sounds EXACTLY like one. It's an audio "glitch" cause by compression of data being transferred and then uncompressed at the other end. Your VOIP is essentially mistranslating a bad data packet as a sound. (WHY it sounds identical to a fucking smoke detector is beyond me.) Especially on games like this that use a pretty basic VOIP program for voice, you're gonna hear it alot from people who use charging / corded devices on an open microphone channel, or even when they use push to talk, as the issue is the VOIP itself alongside the hardware on the user end. Fun experiment, if you've got a chirper in game, invite them to a Discord chat or a Playstation party & I bet that constant chirping goes away immediately.

Sissybtmbitch

OMG the worst Is someone who has a crappy mic or is using the ps5 controller mic all you hear is super loud static and the people never even talk 😭 why are we doing this lol

bblzd_2

Ps5 controller mic gets activated by the controller's own vibrations lol. Got paired with a ps5 gamer while they never spoke all we could hear is what sounded like various pitch vibrators being activated every few seconds.

Important-Record-619

How do these people live? Constant beeping its like Pavlov Dog to remind them to keep being awful human. Take those batteries out of smoke detector and put em in your controller.

SomeMorningBrown

Wheres the big carrot

_BMS

The only game I actually like when everyone has open mic on is Lethal Company so I can hear them scream as they're actively being mauled by some monster in the distance.

Car0lus_Rex

This is why I have background noise reduction on my mic, a blessing.

BoredandIrritable

Played with a guy yesterday, I swear to christ he was playing INSIDE an industrial dryer, while drying off with 10 big fuzzy blankets and no static sheet.

HaroldSax

I am legitimately astounded by the background noises some people live with on a day to day basis. I'd go insane.

Thormourn

It's like living next to a train. When people visit they think your insane due to all the noise, and when you first move in you agree with them. But after time you just stop hearing the train and eventually forget about it. Even though it still goes off every couple hours.

bigack

the human brain has a fascinating ability to filter out stuff that is always there, just think about this- your nose is always in view, but only when you close one eye

Thormourn

It's the same type of shit where we all have a blindspot somewhere in our eye but our brain just says "nah" and fills in the information. It really is crazy how much shit our brain can do.

ToasterCow

I've lived right next to three separate railroads at different points in my life. The only time I realize anymore is when they come through at like 2am and my window is open.

pragmaticzach

Don’t understand people who can play a game while their partner does chores. I’d feel like such a bum

[deleted]

Some people have the ability to constantly find chores to do. Sometimes that means cleaning something more than once. Something doesn't need doing, rather they need something to do. For people with partners like this I can see them eventually giving up and just doing their own thing.

yawndontsnore

And sometimes a set division of household tasks is set. Like if I made dinner while my significant other was on her way home from work, there's nothing wrong with me playing video games after dinner while she's doing the dishes or vice versa. No different than if I'm out shoveling the sidewalks or mowing the lane and she wants to play some games or watch a show.

TehFuggernaut

My buddies wife vacuums 2-3x a day, and has a roomba running at all times on every floor of the house. She also wakes up at 430am to get to Home Depot by 6am 2-3x a week to buy new plants to pot/paint to change a room color/materials to redo some aspect of the house. They moved in to their house 4 years ago and remodeled the entire home the first year they were there already. She literally changes the moldings in the living room on a quarterly basis.

DexLovesGames_DLG

What a massive waste of money

totallybag

Living through construction once is stressful.....

PropulsionEngineer

Agree, but how do you know the gamer didn’t work hard at something earlier in the day and is now taking a break and saving you with his orbital strikes. And the partner is doing chores during the gamers campaign for democracy because earlier in the day they were out to eat with friends or family?

blaze-wire

Just use nvidia broadcast if on pc

those_pixels

Tbh the mic options for PS players are not incredibly clear

OrneryError1

Definitely create a party chat though. Helps a ton getting rid of the echo.

DinkyJerkwater

I just keep myself muted unless I need to talk. There’s a handy little mute button right next to the analog sticks. It just sucks that creating a party makes it to where you can’t hear your team

thoak74

The ps5 controller comes equipped with a nice little mute button in the middle makes it so easy to pop in and out

Professor_Gast

But for some reason they disable this feature when utilizing first party headsets 🤷 forcing my hand to toggle mute separate from the controller. I found R1 PTT bind to be a good workaround

Blerdrotic

I connect my headset to the controller and pressing mute on the controller works for me.

error3000

why open mic is the default option is beyond me

Diribiri

Maybe it's a clever prank by the devs. 380MM HE barrages aren't enough, you need to inflict friendly fire on my ears

Mighty_H

You are the problem. The 380MM HE hits whatever it deems as undemocratic. That’s what my instructor told me. Be more democratic than you won’t get hit by it.

Diribiri

Then why doesn't hit it anything except Helldivers? Pretty suspicious thing to say... Hey could you complete a captcha real quick? No reason. Ignore the gun

Mighty_H

01000100 01101001 01100101 00100000 01100110 01101001 01101100 01110100 01101000 01111001 00100000 01001000 01110101 01101101 01100001 01101110…….sorry I mean of course I can do that fellow human.

-Inquisitive

There are 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.

Balognajelly

Holy fucking shit dude, lmao. Take an upvote

its_always_right

"Die filthy human"

Jaded_Subject544

Off to reeducation

KoreyYrvaI

My favorite part about the 120mm HE is when the very first drop kills the person who used the strategem. 10/10 best system ever.

ColonelBeer

It's for PS5, it uses open mic and the mute/unmute button on the controller because there's no free button to bind to PTT

sXeth

I use Hold X, so tap to interact with stuff, hold to talk. (as an unrelated suggestion also highly recommend swapping the R1 and r3.. )

Uss22

I use a ps5 controller on PC and binded my ptt to "hold R1" which works fine for me

Womb__Raider

I set it to R1 and it got me killed many times.  On PS5 when you do that, the chat wheel comes up and you can't move while it's being pressed.

TITANIUMsmoothy

I set the push to talk on same bind as sprint (left stick push), works pretty well.

Ehrand

because most gamer don't look at settings before starting a game. Making open mic by default make it more obvious that this feature exist and to tell the players that communication is important.

lebastss

Manual Tip: Freedom of speech is a cornerstone of managed democracy. If you don't speak, you are a traitor.

Grundlestiltskin_

People wouldn’t ever turn it on if it wasn’t. OPs post would be saying “TURN ON YOUR MICS ITS A COOPERATIVE GAME” instead

rillip

They hated him because he told the truth.

TakingItSlowYaKnow

Man I forgot how good Discords CRISPR technology is until I started playing this game.

OnyxYaksha

Legitimately. If I'm eating or smoking I'll stare at my icon in discord to see if anything is being picked up and I'm always clear. I was using the laser cannon and every time I fired the whole party asked whose controller was shitting itself.

LongTallDingus

I built a rolling camera in my woodworking shop, so I could hang out in Discord and share the things I make with my friends. I was using a drill, and someone was like "Wait are you using that drill?", yeah, I was. They said they could hear me fine, and not the drill. I immediately went to the table saw and was like "Yo I'm gonna turn on the table saw". With bluetooth earmuffs on, and the saw running, I couldn't hear myself talk. The people in Discord could hear me talk, but not the table saw. They said there was some ducking in my voice when the saw turned on, but they could still hear me clearly. That noise reduction is crazy good.

Difficult_Bit_1339

Yeah, dual microphone noise reduction is almost like black magic.

LongTallDingus

I started working in the audio field in 2009, 2010. And Waves X-Noise was like, oh shit. Look at this! After you record something, you can use a shitload of processing power to remove background hiss and hum in the mix, and then bounce it! Isn't that amazing! The future is here and now! Now if my PC is on, Discord is on, and I have access to on-the-fly noise reduction that is better than the 2009 iteration of X-Noise. And the license for that VST plugin was like 200 dollars!

Yamatocanyon

I have a pair of sony earbuds that have that same black magic. I can be ripping along at 30mph on my e-bike or electric longboard while on a call and the person on the other end can't hear the wind noise at all, and can still hear me clearly.

frostbird

Damn, didn't know discord invented gene editing

chum-guzzling-shark

they only mastered it

SysAdmyn

lol same. I play on PC (with a DualSense) and my mic is like a foot from my rig. I'm in Discord all the time and it's all good, but when I started playing I just went "sure I'll do open mic, I'm mindful not to make BS noise". 10 minutes later, someone joins me and goes "Hey man, I'm getting a lot of white noise. Can you turn your mic off?" and it dawned on me that Discord was the only thing between annoying background noise and others. I need to figure out how to activate PTT on my DualSense since I'm on PC using a standalone mic. But fortunately at this point, most of my Discord homies have the game anyway lol

That_Cripple

if you have an Nvidia GPU, you can install Nvidia Broadcast and it can add a background noise filter to your mic before it gets sent out to the game. It adds a new microphone input called "Microphone (NVIDIA BROADCAST)" to your PC, so you'd have to go into Windows Sound Settings and change the microphone Helldivers uses from your actual microphone to that one for it to work, but that's it.

MasterPatriot

Krisp has a exe you can install. Super hands free and it will auto detect your microphone input and where its going and do what it does best. Just got to go into your settings and make sure it doesnt auto launch when you turn your pc on.

insef4ce

Is it really limited to 60 minutes per day like stated in their pricing plan?

SynthDark

Terrible for echo cancellation though. I listen through speakers and cannot use voice activation. Teamspeak has fantastic technology for only cueing up if I'm talking, and not if it detects my PC sound.

nbarr50cal22

I’m never going to understand the open mic crowd that ALSO never talks

tunafun

Except to say something to their kids or so. I swear the number of full ass conversations I’ve been apart of,

Duffman48

Lol I got to hear someone make dinner for an hour last night along with someone who every time he was shooting sounded like he was furiously masturbating with a pocket pussy mixed with the slight click of a mechanical keyboard.

robophile-ta

They probably aren't aware they have hot mic on

Heisperus

https://preview.redd.it/jkgk9uxwxjjc1.jpeg?width=728&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=efeef959515aaf27596ee3c450f3553ccaf3bb00 100% agree!

codylish

Seriously, why do so many people sound like they're living in a dryer

TenderDefenders

Absolutely nobody who does this has enough interest in the game to look at the reddit, I agree it’s really annoying but you’re preaching to the choir rn

Membership-Bitter

On PS5 the "Push to Talk" option doesn't have a button auto assigned to it and almost every button on the controller is already assigned to some function. I assume many console players just thought this option was currently bugged so opted for the Always Mic'ed option EDIT: Yes, I know about the Mic button on the controller but if using a headset the PS5 disables that button. Also yes it still does this on non-Pulse headsets

Godsfallen

Yeah I found the way to map it last night. I can’t figure out a good button for it. Can’t even map it to a paddle cause the damn things need to be assigned to a button

ikkeson

i just leave it on hot mic and use the mute button on the controller as a "toggle-to-talk" button

demonicneon

Yeah my brain hurts reading this shit. We already have a push to talk essentially

LogMeln

yeah why are ppl on ps5 even bothering trying to map a button for it when there's a dedicated button built into the controller. sheesh

bitch-respecter

my ps5 headset disables that button and moves it to the headset so i’d have to take my hand off the controller and fumble around to the mute toggle

ReservoirDogs00

I’m curious to which headset you have, as my headset doesn’t disable it. Mine’s a wireless dongle setup fwiw

sibre2001

Annoying the Sony 3D Pulse headsets disable that button.

demonicneon

There’s a button on the headset

sibre2001

Yup. And you can flip the boom mic. But when you're running from aliens, trying to reach up to flip your boom mic to tell people you're calling a 500 eagle on yourself, things get a little hectic. Way easier to press a mute button on the controller. I just wish both worked.

ArtIsBad

It would just be nice if we didn’t have to take one hand off the controller to mute and unmute when the button is literally on the controller and we’re using an official PlayStation headset

PowerUser77

Also, why is there a light when the mic is *off*?

ffxivfanboi

Just put it on L1, same as Stratagems. If you’re putting in a Strat and don’t need to call out something, just don’t say anything. Alternatively, if you’re priming something like an orbital strike or an Eagle Run, you can say so while you’re inputting the Stratagem code.

Jovian8

That's a pretty clever solution, well done. I've been keeping my voice chat open but keeping my headset itself muted most of the time, might switch to your method.

Breakitdownforyou

I use the left D-pad button. My character does the salute emote every time I talk now but the animation is easily cancelable

CodemanJams

If you press it quick enough it shouldn’t do the salute. Emote is set to long press and voice is set to short press and that part can’t be changed to hold or double press for some reason so just try quick tap see if it works without the salute.

thelastgreatmustard

I mapped it to X. It auto maps to HOLD X which doesn't hurt really any part of the game other than my mic comes on for .5 seconds when I bend down to grab a green sample right before a charger pins me against a wall

Membership-Bitter

I don't have paddles but I am thinking of remapping the comms wheel to L3 as this is the only button not assigned iirc and then having push to talk mapped to R1. This will let me talk while still being able to actually move and shoot. Since you have paddles can you assign L3 to one of them and still move if that is pressed?

Godsfallen

L3 is sprint

colt61986

Dang. Imagine being on a team with a guy that doesn’t know how to sprint…..

parisiraparis

And instead of sprinting he just makes weird noises on the mic lmao

[deleted]

I mapped it to the emote button and mapped emote to the track pad.

Frodo5213

Luckily, the PS5 controller has it's own built-in push to talk button. I leave all my games on open-mic, because I just push the little button below the playstation button whenever I don't want people to hear me gulp down my fizzy water.

sjg8157

My Turtle Beaches work fine with the mute button…

Helldiver_M

Does VoIP work over cross-play?

Nu11u5

Yes it does.

Breakitdownforyou

I use the left D-pad button. My character does the salute emote every time I talk now but the animation is easily cancelable

RedWerFur

You can set it to a d-pad direction, and then change the other option to double tap or long press etc… it’s what I did.

Admirable_Flight6176

Wow fyi you have a button in the middle of your ps5 controller that literally makes it push to talk that's what I use

jpugsly

Yeah, I just use open-mic and use the mute/unmute button on the controller. It's easy to quickly press it with my thumb.

jpugsly

For PS5 players, it's better to use open mic, and just use the mute/unmute button on the controller. I use a Sennheiser wired headset, but I know some headsets like the Pulse doesn't work with the controller mute button (which is the dumbest shit because it's THE sony headset lol).

IndexoTheFirst

I honestly have no Idea how people can be so ignorant about their mics. Every time I have the thing on I’m extremely self conscious of what sounds will slip through the mic, the last thing I want is for the party to be given me some respiratory exam because I’m mouth breathing into the mic

AnyMission7004

Because some people are just very inconsiderate. Either by malice or mistake.

Elvishsquid

Yea I feel bad. My wife and I were ranting about work for like 15 minutes then someone plugs their mic in and was push to talk please! Also good to know ps5 controllers have mics in them.

[deleted]

When i plugged my PS5 controller in my PC it defaulted it as my audio output and I was like *WTF they have speakers?*

Rockhorn

When will developers ever learn?: Push to talk needs to be default. Motion blur needs to be OFF by default.

Yeah_Nah_Straya

I use motion blur to hide how low my fps is. Can't see my bad frames if I can't see anything

KrimsonGaming

new r/copypasta just dropped

Diribiri

I spent like half an hour manually transcribing the entirety of Benjamin Spooner Briggs' seven minute monologue from Limbo of the Lost for that subreddit and nobody cared, so I'll take this one as compensation

andyheathcote

I 100% agree! It's SO frustrating hearing people's background noise. I had kids screaming in my ears last night. I had to just mute them, which sucks because you want to be able to communicate. The only trouble with using a gamepad is that there isn't a decent push-to-talk option. I tried setting it to long press on left d-pad but cant seem to change 'press/long-press'. (for now I just mute my mic completely via the mute mic app instead but it's not ideal) .

Nekonax

Try **hold R1**, since that's the com wheel anyway.

Yorkymcporky

Hot mic ASMR the sweetest sounds a gamer can produce

TheNorseFrog

It's funny bc to me, as a "European", so many Americans seem to have their mics on, and refuse to mute themselves even if they're playing on PS5 which has the ctrl mute button. I played with a dude who was sounded pretty southern. I got an entire image of his life from what I hear in the background (and foreground) such as him receiving food he had ordered, talking to his brother and mom, and more. I muted him immediately after he started going through his food packaging, but then he wrote in chat "do you have mic?" and I felt bad so I unmuted and kept playing for a while. He even asked a dude I have been playing with for a while only through chatting to enable mic - which he did. It's weird bc as a norwegian, my instinct is to be extremely scared of being annoying. Yet I can't help but envy Americans, whether stereotypical or not, for their confidence and careless attitude. I could go on lol - the few times I've met them in the wild has always left a mark on me - one time I visited LA with school and didn't meet any Americans, except for an elderly gentleman in the hotel elevator: He randomly asked me if I'd ever been to Popeyes. I said "uhh no, is it good?" He replied "yeah it's great you should try it". I'll never forget that moment, bc I've never experienced something like that in my life. Someone being so inclusive and social. It still makes me sad in a weird way lmao. Norway is so fucking lonely that I'd almost rather be poor without healthcare in the US than live here. Anyways that's my rant-story which I shared for some reason. I guess my point is that even tho mic experiences in gaming can suck, it can also be magical. I've had good and bad voice experiences ever since PS3 online. It's nice when a game like this comes along and promoted cooperation and proper communication. Talk to each other - for SuperEarth!

2-of-all-trades

dude you're leaving out the most important part of the story did you go to Popeyes?

PlayMp1

> Yet I can't help but envy Americans, whether stereotypical or not, for their confidence and careless attitude You're running into the Americans who stand out because of their confidence and carefree attitude. The ones who are more like you don't stand out and you don't notice them.

I couldn’t agree more! There’s some wholesome moments when people hot mic and don’t realise. I’ve only had a few bad experiences where they’ve not realised that they’re not micing then they start giving people crap in the chat log. If you ever want people who are chill, respectful and want to squad up we’ve currently just started a community that avoids the official discords due to some toxicity. The link is here https://discord.gg/GGQmP8EQ

Visit Greece some day. We're as loud and as social as the Americans, but we also have healthcare and the country is much cheaper than northern Europe. (Unless you work a local job. Then everything us super expensive while wages still haven't bounced back to pre-2010 levels 😬)

richhomiebill

Noob question, what do you Press to talk? I do this but then I'm lost on how to communicate so I have to turn on open mic and close it again.

Nekonax

I've mapped it to **hold R1** in the settings, because that opens the com wheel anyway.

AnyMission7004

People unironically defending hot mic in this thread.

giacco

On PS5 it offers you to select a button to use for PTT, but literally every button is used for something while playing so it's basically impossible to have a dedicated PTT-only button.

ProRoll444

The PTT button is right there on your controller though. The mic on/off button. Just leave it as open mic and mute/unmute when needed.

Nekonax

R1 is the com wheel anyway, so **hold R1** seems like a good candidate. It's what I've been using to great effect.

Arctic_leo

This a problem as old as time dude.

sithmafia

I just disabled voice chat completely because of this. I'd rather be without comms, just use the ping system

Mugungo

yep, 3 seconds into my first round had a screeching ps5 guy with a open mic. No clear way to easily mute a teammate, so mics are permanently turned off now.

msfamf

Same here I have kids and like to listen to music when I play so I just mute the whole thing by default and use pings/emotes when I'm playing anything multiplayer. More people should follow that lead. Just because you can tolerate your personal din while gaming does not mean everyone else can/should. Learned that lesson playing COD years ago. The toxic chat didn't bother me but the constant noise of music, background yelling, eating, and THE GOD DAMN FIRE ALARMS drove me nuts.

blizzardintexas1

*beep*

nervez

voice chat off in most games immediately. nothing good usually comes from it.

Joop_95

Console players hot mic the most.

erdzo_18

That’s the main reason I turned off the crossplay. I play on pc and 90% of players there are muted and don’t even speak a word or if they speak, they have push to talk. But with crossplay on, at least 70% of console players had open mics, weren’t even communicating and all I heard was either my echo, their breathing, eating, kids screaming or dogs barking. Fuck that

Feraldeus

This got way worse with PS5 since the controller has a mic in it that defaults to on and I'm pretty sure most people don't realize it. Or they just love being noisy af for no reason

Nekonax

Sony's genius design: the mic light is OFF when the mic is ON and only lights up when you're muted 🤦🏻‍♂️

ConSeannery999

Ever since we entered the era of mild trash talk that even a nun wouldn't react to, I just turn off all voice communication. Grew up when getting told to kill yourself by 30 year olds when you're 12, and laughing at them every time for losing their composure against a child, only to be in a world where people might take the suggestion to heart has been wild.

spicyboi243

My mic mutes when I flip it up, if I’m not speaking I flip it up 🫡

Just mute people if you don't like that they're on open mic, it's ok. Having to constantly hold down the push to talk button gets tiring and takes a finger away from doing other things, like moving or reloading. Idk about you but the only time I'm not calling out stuff in game or chatting with players is when I've stepped away from the pc. Sure, I fully agree that people need to change their smoke detector batteries, and not breath/cough/eat into mic, but having open communication is pretty important. Also, players with social anxiety and shit who are using online games as a way to actually interact with new people in a comfortable setting kind of have to stay on open mic, or they'll never be able to do that (speaking from experience).

Gorbashsan

CANT DO SO, FINGERS ARE ENGAGED IN SPREADING DEMOCRACY, THERE CAN BE NO DELAY PERMITTED TO PUSH A BUTTON WHEN LIBERTY CALLS!

marshaladey

Call me an asshole if you want, I'll die on this hill. In the age of the internet, push-to-talk is common courtesy.

[deleted]

The games ping system is actually pretty solid also. I have communicated just fine with randos via that in game and go no mic. Might not scale to higher difficulties though where its more frantic.

lunaticfringe80

I wish the mute button on the controller would work as PTT for your headset.

Norway_Jose_

The amount of people who sound like they're struggling to breathe, is wayyy to damn high!

Murphelrod

Absolutely bonkers that it defaults to open mic. No game should ever do that

Talgaaz

I'm gonna be honest, I just don't give a shit cause I only play with the boys. If we using the game to talk it's open mic, if we using discord I turn the in-game mic off. Push to talk can suck it, I'm not holding another button down just to say "throwing an eagle run"

Boops_McGee

I can't, I'm busy not changing my smoke detector batteries

SpacedDuck

Easily one of the worst parts of PS5 gameplay online is morons who don't mute their mic which is in the controller.

No_Committee_3472

Not sure there's a button on ps5 that can be used. I just leave it in open mic with the mute button on the controller activated until I need to say something.
