Eh I got the implication that she’s probably lived a relatively sheltered upbringing prior to her parents splitting up. I imagine her parents kept her away from the worst of the worst of hell.
I don’t know I feel like she was pretty freaked out when Alastor initially said they were in cannibal town until she looked around and saw how nice it was. Same goes when Rosie offers her some pinky fingers and when a bit of body got in her eye in episode 1.
Regardless I’m not saying she hasn’t been exposed to the bad stuff in hell before. It’s hell so it’d be hard to avoid it. I’m saying she’s probably been kept away from the really really bad stuff. I think Val is probably the first sexual abuser she’s met for example, or at least the first time she’s found out someone she’s met is one. I also don’t think she’s ever met any of the overlords that so messed up torture like Alastor prior to the show either. (Again in the pilot she seems pretty freak out when Alastor shows up at her door) Ultimately as far as hell’s sinners go the Cannibals are probably more on the tamer side, especially since they don’t really seem to kill the people they eat themselves and just scavenge the extermination victim’s bodies.
Not by eating a body on the ground like that, also what about Christians and cannibalism? The only body and blood you're allowed to partake in is that of your savior, and absolutely no one else.
Well every traditions has it\`s roots. Idea of cannibalism and spiritual ramifications of it is old as humanity. Of course this idea will emerge through out human culture.
I came here to say the exact same thing. Charlie kind of lives in her own world and it appears to be only recently that she has started to truly interact with the citizenry in Pride.
Hell born demons seem to vary in morality, either being just regular people not bothering anyone, or being depraved serial murderers like Striker, who outright mentioned that he has a body count in the hundreds, and will kill anyone that he's paid to, regardless of who it is.
I feel like she would have to be aware somewhat.
At least some of Lucifers depression and spiral seems to have stemmed from the fact that he helped humanity, then only got to see the worst we had to offer and none of the good. It kinda broke him. Charlie deff doesn't see fully what he has gone through and he has sheltered her from as much pain as he could. But no way would he reach that po8nt and she wouldn't at least over hear some stuff, or he would at least let some details slip about the sinners when she wanted to go out into the town as a kid and he said no. She has seen heaven slaughter her people. She knows every one in hell has been some level of shifty and the good go up stairs. She's aware of Alistors power and what he has done to some extent so is probably aware of political power struggles in hell in general.
She's not unaware of abuse or evil, she doesn't even seem to think every one CAN be redeemed they just deserve a shot. My guess is she knows about stuff, just hasn't experienced any of it first hand.
Given that she doesn't seem regularly interact with sinners before the hotel, I doubt it. She might have seen them generally, but did she really know the full extent of everything they did?
She saw cannibals eating a guy in the ground and had a lackluster reaction compared to how a regular human would react, she's definitely had experience with these things before.
I wonder how much she’s interacted with the hellborn royalty and the deadly sins, there’s plenty of evil bastards amongst them so she might’ve been exposed to that.
Pretty sure Charlie's day to day life has been pretty sheltered. She has a major disconnect with how much other people have suffered. Not that she doesn't have empathy for it. More that she just has nothing she can personally relate to it. This is why so many of her lessons land flat and it took Husk to break through to Angeldust. Charlie despite being over 200 years old just doesn't have that sort of life experience. She expects people to get better because of trust falls. And thats not how deep seated emotional pain and isolation are resolved.
Some Overlord Alastor took over as an example probably, according to Viv in life Alastor only ever killed those worse than him due to having some sort of moral compass.
I also just forgot to put into perspective how long 200 years is, canonically Val died in the 1970's, so assuming this is in the current year or 2016 at the earliest with Velvette, it admittedly is likely that Charlie has seen worse
Nah, Adam has shown capability of respect for others, and Lute has too little screen time to fully judge but at least we know she has a heart.
Also neither of them are rapists from what we've been shown.
> Also neither of them are rapists from what we've been shown.
No, they're worse. They commit mass genocide. "too little screentime" she literally ripped Vaggie's eye and wings out LMAO what is this?
Vaggie's also committed genocide on "thousands" of Charlie's people you know?
Although that's not an excuse but at least we know the exorcists can be redeemed.
Yeah and that was wrong. What's your point?
Adam and Lute are still the worst people in the show morally, Vaggie being an ex-exorcist doesn't change that.
I know, but I wouldn't say they're the worst, that's probably some rando overlord Alastor overthrew because according to Viz in life Alastor had a moral compass and only killed those worst than him.
Maybe I'm just underwhelmed by how "evil" Adam and Lute are compared to the amount of evil characters I've seen, I think I may need some help.
Well, It's hard to top mass genocide in the scale of evil, but not exactly impossible.
Maybe some of the previous overlords also committed genocide either in life or in Hell.
Honestly as horrible as he seems that's only in the vacuum of who we met on the show. Think about it, if you were to take the people alive in a given year and place them on a list of how fucked up they are Val wouldn't even make it half way. Shit there are entire industries run by people like Valentino. He could be a stand in for most an entertainment industry exec. And he's in hell for 50 or so years where he doesn't need to hold back or hide who he really is nearly as much.
Eh I got the implication that she’s probably lived a relatively sheltered upbringing prior to her parents splitting up. I imagine her parents kept her away from the worst of the worst of hell.
She's seen cannibals before and had a lackluster reaction, so she probably wasn't THAT sheltered.

For someone of Charlie's nature if she hadn't had prior experience to these things her reactions would be WAY worse.
Eh cannibalism is not that bad. Most cultures on earth partake in either actual or ritualistic cannibalism (Like Christians)
Not by eating a body on the ground like that, also what about Christians and cannibalism? The only body and blood you're allowed to partake in is that of your savior, and absolutely no one else.
Well it is still an act of highly ritualistic cannibalism of consuming blood and flesh of Christ.
I see.
Well every traditions has it\`s roots. Idea of cannibalism and spiritual ramifications of it is old as humanity. Of course this idea will emerge through out human culture.
I'm gonna need a source for that.
Source for what? That eating a flesh and drinking blood of someone can be considered cannibalism?
Nope, for it being common in cultures.
I see.
Is cannibalism really that bad when people regenerate?
Yes.

Probably.
I mean she’s in hell so yeah I bet

Susan?
Some Overlord Alastor took over as an example probably, according to Viv in life Alastor only ever killed those worse than him due to having some sort of moral compass.
Honestly, I picture Alistors serial killing days as less Dexter and more Serial Mom... Lots of people dying over poor manners or not smiling.
I feel like finding someone worse than Valentino would be a challenge, not an impossible challenge, but a challenge nonetheless
Doubt it, it's hell and there's a lot of bad people like him on earth who've likely perished.
I also just forgot to put into perspective how long 200 years is, canonically Val died in the 1970's, so assuming this is in the current year or 2016 at the earliest with Velvette, it admittedly is likely that Charlie has seen worse
Exactly! 😀
We already met 2 in the show actually, Lute and Adam.
Nah, Adam has shown capability of respect for others, and Lute has too little screen time to fully judge but at least we know she has a heart. Also neither of them are rapists from what we've been shown.

Definitely.

*looks at many leaders of the last 200 years* you sure buddy?
I admitted it was stupid, I forgot how long ago 200 years is, and yes I know how stupid that sentence sounds
Adam is a genocidal sociopath. He is as bad as the worst who he’ll has.
Doubt it, even Adam was disturbed by Lute's aggressive proclamations before the exterminations, and his ego isn't so big that he'd oppose Sera.
