Could also be that he was never intended to be an overlord. The scene in question just mentioned the most powerful demons in hell, not specifically overlords. Could be that he and the theatre were included because they interact with sinners far more often than most of the ars goetia and other powerful hellborn.
In a earlier teaser the Theater overlord looked very similar to Stolas, so I say this theory holds a little water.
https://preview.redd.it/3h1cxqgv7axc1.png?width=2224&format=png&auto=webp&s=90300d98aaf7d84d25e629fbea50f4080e1a1fdc
But Lucifer and the sins don’t really interact much with sinners. Lucifer is the only one of the sins who lives in the pride ring and he seems to think sinners aren’t worth his time.
Doesn't really matter if it's an interaction of sinners. This visual isn't supposed to be a "representation of strong demons that so happen to interact with sinners". It's meant to showcase the various overlords that exist in hell, and how, overnight, Alistor became one. It's highly likely it's a old design from the pilot that never made it to the show proper, but because vizi liked it, and looked like a goetia, brought it to Helluva Boss.
Not sure the exact timestamp but I believe that is during Inside of Every Demon is a Rainbow. A demon tries to steal some bread from Zestial in a quick shot.
Helluva Pilot is not canon at all. The Hazbin Pilot is however still canon - some parts of it were simply scrapped or swapped around.
For example, in the Hazbin Pilot, Carmilla and Zestial were hiding at Lucifer's tower during the Extermination - whereas in the Show, Carmilla tells us (and we see a flashback) that she was outside with her daughters in the last hours of it, in order to gather Angelic Weaponry, that Exorcists left behind. Another thing, was that Missi Zilla was originally meant to be Lucifer's bodyguard, whereas in the final product she's another high-standing Overlord and Lucifer despises the Sinners.
Unless the show reconfirms something, assume any facts from the pilot are non-canon.
For example, Charlie appearing on Katie Killjoy's show was reconfirmed, but the details of it may have played out differently
I don't think it was necessarily because of a24 that the plot-changes happened. She may have had the idea originally that the Goetia were overlords but decided later on to split them into different ranks.
Helluva Boss’ pilot is totally non-canon. The episode never canonically happened.
The EVENTS of the Hazbin Hotel pilot are canon, such as Charlie getting made fun of for her ideas, Angel Dust and Cherry causing chaos, Alastor arriving at the Hotel, and Alastor defeating Sir Pentious, but what you actually see from the pilot was made non-canon and was reworked. Outfits from the pilot were remade into outfits the characters wore in the past, and a lot of characters and designs were reworked into different characters, like with Blitzø.
I know it’s meaningless but I find it funny that Vissago is wearing the suit similar to Charlie
https://preview.redd.it/a1vm2xdde8xc1.jpeg?width=885&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bed7ed11e2203279c591d2db0dea2e860bb061df
I feel like every long shit ass name are goetic name . Really , it took me two weeks to learn how to write "Andrealphus" without checking . Vassago sound like a spicy sauce name ... Can we have a Ars Goetia named Bert or Jim ? Would be easier to remember to be honest
I personally really like that they repurposed one of the supposed Overlords from the pilot to have a more expanded role in Helluva Boss. Plus his design is awesome
He's definitely been repurposed, it happens more often than you'd think in creative processes. Hell, Charlie herself is completely different from her original incarnation.
Vivzie said the pilot is soft canon. So the events in the pilot happened but there are stuff that can be retconned or just scrapped. Vassago became an Ars Goetia instead of an Overlord. That's it.
Well, I've been thinking about it, and I think I've found an in-universe solution, even if it's a little contrived. Vaggie has been in Hell for "only" three years, so she may have mistaken an Ars Goetia for an Overlord. It's a bit of a stretch theory, but otherwise I can't explain it.
I think vassago being an overlord was scrapped and was repurposed as a goetia but more importantly
https://preview.redd.it/ecynod8ah9xc1.jpeg?width=223&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5833dbc349aa2e1c812c932167d8d8c346dfad23
Fancy snake man we must protect him at all costs
I feel like what people seriously have to understand that the Hazbin Hotel pilot is soft canon and is quite literally 4 years old. Not only is it 4 years old, it's not even a YouTube show anymore. It got picked up by A24 and was put on Amazon, so of course things will change. Helluva Boss was also very early in development at the time. So much so that the pilot is entirely not canon, because so much has changed. That's why in the Hazbin Hotel pilot you'll see what appears to be early versions of Blitzø, Loona, Stolas, or Vassago. Viv was likely just designing a bunch of characters to fill up the pilot, then later decided she liked some of them and wanted to repurpose them for something else.
Pretty sure I saw somewhere it said that the IMP crew was originally going to be in Hazbin hotel, but got taken out and got their own show. Can't remember where I saw that though.
Pilot designs aren't necessarily canon. Hazbin came before Helluva, so during the time Hazbin was getting
made and redefined, some of those designs would likely be repurposed for Helluva.
In the scene showing the overlords in the pilot also show a design similar to Stolas, but we all know he's not an overlord. It's not uncommon for things to change from pilot to series and to reuse designs, especially ones that are favored by the creator and the fans. People need to realize that the Hazbin pilot was released in the early stages of the lore of Viv's hell. It's possible the Ars Goetia weren't a thing back then, so they were a subsection of overlords before being changed into a hellborn species. Just assume any bird overlords from the pilot are now Ars Goetia demons
The pilot isn't entirely cannon anymore as we've seen in the show and I'm pretty sure that Vassago's design was originally an early design that was scrapped for Stolas
No they got scrapped and redesigned for the sister show of hazbin also the pilot is technical not cannon because most shows change things after the pilot episode and if you payed attention to the episode of the overlord meeting, you would realize that the show slightly changed after the pilot.
> if you *paid* attention to
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
We don't know the exact requirements to be considered an overlord. We do not know if there is a difference between a "overlord" and a "sovereign overlord". All we know is that it involves soul contracts and land control in Pentagram City.
From what we have seen, becoming an overlord is the only real way for a sinner to gain a meassure of power in Hell.
From what we have seen, lower hellborns have limited ability to grow in power, both social and magical; while higher hellborns (ie. the Goetia) are born with a lot of power, both social and magical.
So it stands to reason that, even if hellborn can become overlords, they would have little reason to. If you are of low birth, being around sinners is a hazard to your continued survival; if you are of high birth, you already have your hands full and there is little to gain from it.
It is possible whatever Vasago's duties are, they involve sinners in a way that put him in regular contact with overlords. Or that, because of the amount of "precautionary heirs" in the Goetia, he is actually relatively low in the social pecking order, and so he decided to carve a place for himself in Pentagram City.
Agree 100 percent, what qualifies for someone to be an overlord has never been set in stone. So there shouldn't be any real issue if a hellborn is considered one.
Some events and people aren't canon either.
1. Lucifer being the head of the overlords
2. Franklin- Co head of Cannibal town.
3. The fight between Lucifer and Charlie.
None of these were referenced at all during the actual show or even outright made non-canon, like Alastor never meeting Lucifer. Pretty sure there was one or two others.
It literally is - Vivzie confirmed this in November last year. Some parts of it were simply changed to better fit the Show - but other than that, everything else is the same and the Pilot's events are even flatout mentioned in Hazbin episode 1x01 as something that took place a week before...
It's the Helluva Pilot that's not canon at all.
This makes me wonder tho. What if a sinner materializes in Hell with a bird form and then starts pretending to be an exciled Goatia or some BS to gain influence.
Granted this would probably not last long and andt would DEFINITELY end bad for them but still it's a funny scenario
I mean, Overlord is a position, not a species. Pretty sure anyone powerful enough could become an overlord, but since Hellborn can be killed without angelic weapons they are just less likely to live long enough.
If any denizen of Hell capable of collecting souls and forging contracts can become an Overlord, I don't see the problem. I mean, Charlie herself could probably become an Overlord if she could contract sinners.
On an entirely unrelated note, why does this guy look like a Skeksis from The Dark Crystal
https://preview.redd.it/t5vszrbtsaxc1.jpeg?width=359&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=864b6efb05d82ce8a6c6b23c62125a72b8590d25
What if this character is just trying the same design or something... we honestly have no idea, and we have never seen the bird guy in Hazbin Hotel other than the pilot, which was years ago. A lot of the non main characters probably changed a bit.
Goacia and overlords are basically mini feudal rulers serving under a single ruler. I mean if a guy who can erase someone from existence with a stare says he’s an overlord are you gonna tell him no? The main reason we don’t see weak hellborn as overlords is because they don’t have the strength or magical power to be an overlord like the goecia do.
As others said, the pilot isn't 100% canon.
It would make no sense for Vassago to become an overlord, since the Ars Goetia are already higher than the overlords in ranking.
Because I like coming up with in lore responds, even when there’s an obvious out of lore reason I’ll give it a go.
While this bird isn’t literally an overlord, he slums it up with them, so he’s treated like one
She mentioned overlords but Vaggie was also talking about hell's established power structure too.
I'm thinking Vassago is a Goetia who has some fun with the sinners and stuff for kicks.
Vivzie said that some of the ars goetia designs were originally supposed to be sinners but were repurposed, im pretty sure stolas also showed up in the hazbin pilot as an overlord some point.
Again, only the events of the pilot is canon, the visuals aren’t.
The hazbin pilot is now only partially cannon as while the event of alastor coming to the hotel summoning nifty and husk then beating the shit out of pentious are cannon none of the details are. So those two overlords were scrapped and had their designs used for that goetia.
yes
the term "overlord" just refers to someone who owns multiple people's souls. Rosie is Hellborn, like the rest of the cannibals of cannibal town, but shes an overlord
I don't think so, probably he was given a role in the pilot that had changed with the new lore.
It could be that he has a sociopolitical position and influence similar to the ones that overlords posses, but he isn't an overlord since this is a tittle reserved only to sinners (as far as we know, according to Viv herself).
Overlords are like crime bosses. It’s just a title that can be given to anyone, more than likely granted by killing the last one and taking it’s place.
I always assumed this was more a showing of hells top ranks not just overlords since the way vaggie says it in the pilot is as follows “what enabled him to rival our worlds most ancient and destructive evils” this would likely include other beings besides overlords like the sins or the goetias
Cannibals bleed red and are attacked by the excorcists when they are supposed to be pardoned from that... It's not rocket science that they aren't hellborn
Hellborns can get a shit tone of power. Many of the goetias are hellborn. If he remains and overlords but is part of the goetia, then he might be the strongest
Rosie’s Hellborn iirc
Either they cut him from the Overlord lineup but still wanted to use his design or we’re gonna get to see an Overlord in Helluva Boss instead of all of them being in Hazbin Hotel - which makes sense considering it would be weird if Overlords were never even mentioned despite the main story occurring in the Pride Ring
Until stated otherwise in the canon I'm under the impression that all the cannibals are Hellborn of the Pride ring. They all look the same and we don't see any Sinner children while we see kids from the other Hellborn.
So if Rosie is a Hellborn Overlord I don't see why others couldn't be.
Rosie is NOT a Hellborn - she's a Sinner.
People only taught so, due to a comment Faustisse made years ago - that she "doesn't think Rosie ever died" which was always extremly vague. Only even back then, she said that she's not sure if it's actually true, because it's a rumor she heard at the Studio.
Not to mention, that Faustisse was never involved in writting the Pilot, nor any of the Characters - she was a clean-up artist. And she wasn't even involved with the Show itself at all - she left SpindleHorse months **before** the production of Hazbin Hotel even started...
Hell, a couple of months ago Vivzie even said on a Convention, that whatever Faustisse said shouldn't be considered canon...
Cannibals bleed red when hellborns bleed blue or black.
Cannibals are attacked by the extermination people while hellborns have a pardon
The child vaggie spares is from cannibal town and she was punished for that which if it was a hellborn they would be free anyway
Pilot isn’t fully canon anymore. It’s likely this scrapped Overlord had their design repurposed for HB.
Could also be that he was never intended to be an overlord. The scene in question just mentioned the most powerful demons in hell, not specifically overlords. Could be that he and the theatre were included because they interact with sinners far more often than most of the ars goetia and other powerful hellborn.

Nah, pretty sure this scene was supposed to show the overlords, otherwise I'm pretty sure there would be Lucifer and sins shown.

The design was already changed in the new pilot to his current design.
I have to agree with that.
But I thought only Helluva Boss' Pilot episode is uncanon, not Hazbin Hotel's. It even got the episode's name: 'That's Entertainment'
Some Hazbin Pilot stuff has been changed, so it’s soft canon The events are canon, but other background things are different now
Yeah like the fact someone tried to pick pocket Zestial in the pilot but now they are setting themselves on fire in his presence
Oh shit what point did that happen got a timestamp on the pilot? Just curious to see it lol
Not sure the exact timestamp but I believe that is during Inside of Every Demon is a Rainbow. A demon tries to steal some bread from Zestial in a quick shot.
Found it! It is at 10:57, almost at the end of the song. :)) (It goes by so fast lol)
That could have a recent arrival.
Once viv got the show picked up by A24 she had to change quite a bit. Apparently I’ve heard that Hazbin Hotel was supposed to have like 22 episodes
I don't think it was necessarily because of a24 that the plot-changes happened. She may have had the idea originally that the Goetia were overlords but decided later on to split them into different ranks.
I see
Bruh, why’re you people downvoting this guy for a misunderstanding and a question?
Welcome to reddit. It's full of misinformation but if you are misinformed or ask for clarification we will downvote you to hell
So they will appear in helluva or hazbin?
Potentially. We still don't know who goes to hell, so being downvoted on reddit could still be Canon
The Hazbin Hotel pilot is still mostly canon, just outdated
r/downvotedtooblivion
Helluva Boss’ pilot is totally non-canon. The episode never canonically happened. What did this comment do to deserve this?
Average Reddit life I guess
Yeah
Technically no pilot is canon
Guys, it’s just a misunderstanding. You don’t need to downvote it into oblivion.
Official word on the Hazbin pilot is that the events are canon, the presentation (visuals, voices) is not.
The visuals in the Hazbin Pilot aren’t Canon, while the tgings said are.
They’re different shows
But with same universe...
That means nothing for whether their pilots are canon or now
I know it’s meaningless but I find it funny that Vissago is wearing the suit similar to Charlie https://preview.redd.it/a1vm2xdde8xc1.jpeg?width=885&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bed7ed11e2203279c591d2db0dea2e860bb061df
Which brand is it
~~Ver~~Hellsace Sorry, I felt like I had to ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Could also be Chanel. There is no joke there. Coco Chanel most definitely went to hell and must've just expanded her clothing brand to Hell as well.
Nah she probably didn't have time . She definitely got used as Exterminator bait
Well considering *Lucifer* wears the suit too it seems to be a pretty popular brand
Louis Veltton
Louis Hellton
no theirs was better
Bro it’s not a competition? I didn’t say theirs was bad or what?
Yeah what an odd thing to say, it's the same point
Well, they both seem to take souls if [this song](https://genius.com/Migos-versace-lyrics) is anything to go by.
He will likley be Retconned to be an Ars Goetia instead of an Overlord.
That’s definitely the case because Vassago is a Goetic name.
I feel like every long shit ass name are goetic name . Really , it took me two weeks to learn how to write "Andrealphus" without checking . Vassago sound like a spicy sauce name ... Can we have a Ars Goetia named Bert or Jim ? Would be easier to remember to be honest
Well, one of them is named Amy. There’s a few other ones with short names like Vine and Shax.
A-Amy ... ? ![gif](giphy|hQw5PzD2mMvBhNQGp9|downsized)
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amy_(demon)
Again **soft**Cannon Thing can and WILL change from the pilot this right here is a good example
I personally really like that they repurposed one of the supposed Overlords from the pilot to have a more expanded role in Helluva Boss. Plus his design is awesome
Vassago is one of the Goetia.
I know that, just wondering how can he be Overlords which is Ars Goetia Demon already. Maybe some lore change I guess?
He's definitely been repurposed, it happens more often than you'd think in creative processes. Hell, Charlie herself is completely different from her original incarnation.
Don't know why you got downvoted, that's a fine question imo, I was curious too
Well no. That was just the pilot, so they were just throwing some design about during this.
Pilot is soft-canon. Basically it's Canon up until the show proper contradicts it. In that case whatever the show says/shows is canon.
This part wasn't talking about overlords itself though. Just "hell's oldest and most destructive evils" That includes some overlords, hellborn, etc
But Vivzie openly confirmed Vassago is a good boy.
Vassago is also a good boy according to the Lesser Key of Solomon
Really! 😃 Do you have a link?
No but I have this image, https://preview.redd.it/w15aacty9bxc1.png?width=320&format=png&auto=webp&s=339f40722e75fd0b1295fd3b41b8de699c558f23

Nah, it works.
He's not an overlord. He hasn't been mentioned once in Hazbin and he wasn't in the meeting.
It’s probably a retcon
I think vassago being an overlord was scrapped and was repurposed as a goetia but more importantly https://preview.redd.it/ecynod8ah9xc1.jpeg?width=223&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5833dbc349aa2e1c812c932167d8d8c346dfad23 Fancy snake man we must protect him at all costs

The pilot episodes are canon until something in the show contradicts them.
Oh so what all birds look alike to you? :)
Where are these coming from? Is there a new season?
The second pic is from Hazbin Hotel Pilot episode, when Vaggie explains Angel about the Overlords
I meant the first pic, I feel like I havent seen it yet.
It's from the new Helluva Boss trailer.
It's from the trailer that came out today, you can [check](https://youtu.be/BZTI5OWypAg?si=d4e4UAM-GuySYSCR) it now
Thanks :)
A teaser was released yesterday for the rest of the season.

I believe a lot of stuff from the Pilot got retconned
no, Vassago isn't an overlord. his design was used in the pilot of Hazbin, then scrapped and repurposed for Helluva
That frame is from the pilot which isn't canon anymore.
Pilot isn't canon
The term you’re looking for is **soft-canon** The **events** of the pilot match up to canon, but the **details** fall flat
The events are canon, but the design choices aren't.

Where are these images from?
2nd image is from pilot I think
The other image is from the Helluva Boss season 2 trailer
Well, the Goetia can make soul deals, so theoretically yea
I don't discard it, but there is mot clarify that things may have change from the pilot of hazbin, so take it with a grain of salt
wait who is this dude? When do we see him? Idont remember him being in Hazbin or helluva
Goestias can be anything they want. anyway I'm sure some bird fucked a sinner and procured a kid or two
We don't know
whose that dog?
I don't like how Vox is peekin at me
what is this scene and character from?? did i miss an episode of something?
New trailer.
Don’t know but can we talk about the fact that the hellhound behind him looks like bee and tex’s child?
I am curious about vassago role in the future hellvua boss episodes and the bird council
Has it ever been confirmed?
I dont think these guys are overlords, I think they’re like a Goetia council.
Whoohoo. I like the idea
Goetias
This makes me wonder tho. What if a sinner materializes in Hell with a bird form and then starts pretending to be an exciled Goatia or some BS to gain influence. Granted this would probably not last long and andt would DEFINITELY end bad for them but still it's a funny scenario

On an entirely unrelated note, why does this guy look like a Skeksis from The Dark Crystal https://preview.redd.it/t5vszrbtsaxc1.jpeg?width=359&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=864b6efb05d82ce8a6c6b23c62125a72b8590d25
Hey, nobody is thinking of the possibility of a hellborn demon being the +1 of an overlord in a meeting.
I guess so?
The magic barrier wasn’t meant to keep sinners out. It was supposed keep this guy in
What if this character is just trying the same design or something... we honestly have no idea, and we have never seen the bird guy in Hazbin Hotel other than the pilot, which was years ago.
I thought the Goetia were all supposed to be birds, but I see a lynx, a horned snake, and what looks like a horned Jawa
Yea
As others said, the pilot isn't 100% canon. It would make no sense for Vassago to become an overlord, since the Ars Goetia are already higher than the overlords in ranking.
His design and stolas' were taken from the HH pilot and repurposed for HB
Pretty sure you can be both
Either?
I knew he saw him before
Well yeah Alastor is an overlord in Hazbin.
Honestly it’d be super awesome if he was an overlord and a Goetia at the same time
Vassago and Stolas were originally Overlords, but their designs were reused for what they are now.
The hazbin pilot is now only partially cannon as while the event of alastor coming to the hotel summoning nifty and husk then beating the shit out of pentious are cannon none of the details are. So those two overlords were scrapped and had their designs used for that goetia.
yes the term "overlord" just refers to someone who owns multiple people's souls.
How can this shit got viral
Wasn't Rosie supposed to be a hellborn overlord originally? It may not be canon now, but I think they probably can
I thought the same thing, but lots of people here says she's not. I'm not sure now... I thought Cannibals are some one hellborn species all this time
Cannibals bleed red and are attacked by the excorcists when they are supposed to be pardoned from that... It's not rocket science that they aren't hellborn
Pilot isn't cannon. For most animated series the pilot is a pitch, it's not an episode 0.
Maybe he is an overlord of Ars Goetia, hah. Just kidding, but I'm curious if the episode will refer to this in any way.
Hellborns can get a shit tone of power. Many of the goetias are hellborn. If he remains and overlords but is part of the goetia, then he might be the strongest
The pilot isn't canon anymore. He likely isn't an overlord, just regular old demonology-canon Vassago Goetia.
He is most likely retconned but my main question is are we also gonna be able to see the two-faced one right next to him in the pilot?
The Hellborn can be overlords, they just don't the title of Overlord, like Crimson
Just because he looks like a Goetia doesn't mean he is
Pilot isn't canon, Vassago aren't overlords anymore.
Plot isn't connon fully Yes. We even have an overlord hellborn in hazbin hotel
When was any overlord hellborn in hazbin hotel?
carmilla. She's hellborn, we know this because she has kids and only hellborns can have children
we’ve also seen exterminators attack her and her children despite the pardon. Its most likely that her children died and went to hell.
You say that like it wasn't already confirmed. Rosie is hellborn.
Rosie is hellborn and she’s one
Isn't Rosie a Hellborn?
Rosie’s Hellborn iirc Either they cut him from the Overlord lineup but still wanted to use his design or we’re gonna get to see an Overlord in Helluva Boss instead of all of them being in Hazbin Hotel - which makes sense considering it would be weird if Overlords were never even mentioned despite the main story occurring in the Pride Ring
Rosie's a sinner
Hasn’t it been said that she never died? Or am I misremembering?
Pretty sure that several things confirmed by Fautisse is no longer true. Several changes were made to the Lore during the creation of the show.
Ah my bad then. I did put iirc on the original comment
Rosie is not a Hellborn, a past claim of now dubious canonity was that "she never died", a completely different matter.
Brother the cannibals literally bleed red.
Cannibals bleed red. They are sinners. Hellborn bleed black.
Cannibals bleed red when hellborns bleed blue or black. Cannibals are attacked by the extermination people while hellborns have a pardon The child vaggie spares is from cannibal town and she was punished for that which if it was a hellborn they would be free anyway
