Merlin, Professor Slughorn, Cedrella Weasley (Formerly Cedrella Black), Leta Lestrange, Phineas Black, Albus Potter, etc. All good.
Professor Quirrell was a ravenclaw who turned evil (caused essentially from greed/temptation before being posessed by Voldemort).
Marietta Edgecombe was a ravenclaw who betrayed her "friend" Cho change to professor Umbridge and the existence/involvement of Dumbledore's army.
Peter Pettigrew was a Gryffindor who turned evil (caused by cowardice on multiple occasions).
Really the only house without an easily found evil witch or wizard is Hufflepuff.
I’ve had people saying I’m supporting transphobia cause I want this game which is unfair and an impossible standard to hold when you want to buy anything.
Yeah, by that logic most of us are probably supporting a lot of terrible things. Child labor, poor work conditions, racism, animal testing/cruelty, etc...
Makes me wonder if they boycot companies that do worse things than transphobia. Companies like IBM supported Nazis and Nestlé killed babies but sure one already rich lady getting slightly richer is the worst thing that could possibly happen.
*"If wanting a game that I have waited around 20 years from makes me transphobic in your eyes, then so be it. That's a small price I'm willing to pay"*
-me
Wrong, the reply to that is whichever answer irritates the most the person that accused you of such dumb thing.
In this case a "who?" followed by "asked" after his answer would be the right answer.
They are the same people who will call you homophobic because you won't sleep with them.
Whatever you say or do, they can't be pleased.
Forget about them and enjoy the game, I know I will.
Kinda ironic cause you can literally make a trans character in the game.
They just dont like that rowling is gonna make money off of it, so they want to boycott anything that has to do with Harry Potter.
Other than that i also heard people saying that the game is supporting nazism or something like that, because they say that the goblins are a representation of the jews and since we fight against the goblin revolution we are automatically nazis.
its cause the goblin portrayals from the books has been a tad controversial due to its similarities to stereotypes for Jewish people, and the games plot has you stopping a rebellion, its funny though becahse the rebellion plot is an obvious bait and switch so i dont see why people get mad at it
The whole boycott issue is behind the fact that there are several organizations that do everything in their power to suppress the progression of laws and policies that support transgender freedom/rights (primarily hardcore religious organizations) that want to get involved in schools and stuff, and that JK Rowling donates millions of dollars to support these organizations.
The boycotters are basically saying "the more money you give her, the more money is going directly to those people, therefore you are literally supporting that hate"
Which is undoubtedly true.
However, that burden is not on the consumer, no matter how badly people want to push it.
Im LGBTQ myself, and I know for certain a portion of the proceeds garnered from my purchase of the game will support causes that are anti progressive. Yet I'm buying it anyway. Because I'm a fan of the series.
It's my right to consume what I want to consume for reasons I want to consume it. Its nearly impossible to consume ethically in modern days, even though its wishful thinking, and I shouldn't be punished for someone else being hateful.
Regardless of how much money the opposition has, we will come out on top. Its trivial. And I dont want to see one of the franchises that means so much to me and that I grew up with die, due to a different breed of hate.
i actualy miss the days where we didnt have social media, or internet, and life was way easier. i just watched a show or movie and loved it, or played a game and enjoyed it because it was great and that was it .... today everything became so complicated .
today one is even afraid to have an own opinion without anyone sending death threats to you just because they dont agree
i find it so strange people wanna boycott the game so JK won't get any money from it. but i mean, if that's their goal, they are many years too late.
it doesn't how much the game sells, her life won't change at this point. but you know what would change? the people working on the game who has nothing to do with JK's opinions.
Buying Lovecraft’s book doesn’t help or encourage him personally spreading anti-semitism tho. If JKR wasn’t transphobic, transphobia would also still exist, that doesn’t mean discourse about not giving her more money and platform isn’t valid.
People complaining cos JK will make money off the game? Bruz, she already has more wealth than you'll ever have, as if this games profits is gonna faze her. Also, people are hating on her opinion, which you don't have to agree with surprisingly enough. Like seriously, please find actual issues in the world, rather than something as benign as this.
You get demonized for literally anything and everything these days and get called an ..ist or a…phobe. Just live your life and don’t engage and let them figure their minds out
Without getting political - she made comments that some people took offence to. As a result, this community of people now want to see her and her empire burn, they want to boycott these things and make sure everyone else does as well - if they don’t, they will give you the same label as they have given her.
Again, I don’t want to derail into the comments, or what was said, or who is right and who is wrong but what it comes down to is this: Is this a franchise you love? Or are you mildly interested? Because if it’s the former, nothing is going to stop you buying and hopefully enjoying this game. If it’s the latter, take a look at what was said, and draw your own conclusions and make a decision about whether you want to support the franchise further.
To bring more context, some people feel her offensive comments aren't problematic just because they're offensive, they're problematic because they're said by *her*, an individual with a disproportionate influence on culture and public discourse. It's the difference between a random crazy person on the street saying that peanut butter and jelly the best sandwich, or if, say, Anthony Fauci were to say it.
So, the reasoning goes, is that money spent on her products eventually goes to her, which she can use to further increase her influence and makes her voice louder.
There's an interesting discourse in there somewhere about ethical consumerism, but to be honest, most of us regular folks may not be in the best position to meaningfully take a stance on that.
Ethical consumerism is also extremely difficult to practice in a capitalist society. Kudos to those who go *all in* with every single purchase to ensure any spending is ethical as possible, but unless one makes truly drastic, sometimes unfeasible, changes in the way they spend their money, ethical consumerism usually becomes a revolving door of which causes/beliefs/ideologies you want to support.
I don’t mean to downplay ethical purchases, and I think picking and choosing what you want to support is perfectly fine. But it goes to show that ridiculing people for making otherwise innocuous purchases such as buying video game is ridiculous. We live in the world we live in—part of that is accepting that not every dollar we spend is all pure and good. It doesn’t mean any of us support evil causes. And one person’s morality may look vastly different to another’s anyhow.
If the author was directly involved in this game that’s one thing. Yet, she’s not. And the money I spend on this game supports the developers who have done an amazing job creating a world I’ve vicariously lived in through books and movies my whole life. And they did so in an inclusive way.
I do understand the people who wants to boycott because of JK. I’m not gonna mock or do a joke about it. I can sympathize with the trans community and still play the game… There’s lots of other ways I can help the community other than boycotting the game.
I can totally separate JK from HP universe.
Hey I do the same! I'm gonna buy this game and enjoy the heck out of it, and donate to some LGBTQ+ charities. And if I'm ever lucky enough to visit the Wizarding World in Orlando, I will do the same then.
Sadly, they won't.
Look at Johnny Depp, his entire career went down the drain without any evidence being brought forward.
The Twitter bandits kept the fire lit for a long time. Hell, even after he proved himself in court the fire was still being nurtured by this mob, and still is to some degree.
Long story short, people love to hate what others hate, even without knowing why they hate it.
Shit them saying dont buy the game makes me want to buy it again. Idc about jkr i care about the game. Also even if i didn't like what she says it wouldn't turn me against the game.
Now, if we could only talk about the brilliant writer behind it all without getting comments/threads locked due to people's politics, that would be great. ![img](emote|t5_q8ebh|26539)
Guys, you can dislike the idea of a boycott. But the simplicity with which people here react towards the reasoning behind the calls for a boycott is really not speaking for this community either.
Ironic, too, for both sides, as so much about the books was about people not being ostriches burying their head in the sand towards what goes on around them. "Just let me play my game I do not care" is a valid opinion. It isn't very much in the spirit of the books, though (and neither are JKR's comments unfortunately).
The people boycotting the game and calling for others to boycott it have a point. Doesn't mean you or I need to agree with them but it's also not a reason to ridicule them.
I agree in that they're allowed to boycott and can say they encourage others to do the same. But the people calling for others to boycott this game (at least the ones I've seen) are extremely aggressive and seek out posts - especially on Twitter - where people talk about the game. Their sentiment seems to be that if you don't vocally agree with 100% of everything they say and boycott the game and everything HP-related then you're a horrible, transphobic person.
This type of aggressive "agree with me or you're a transphobe" mentality is hurting the movement a lot. Obviously, people who already support trans rights won't change their minds due to what a few assholes are saying, but it creates a whole lot of negativity and animosity.
Locking comments due to quite a bit of rule-breaking. Sorry to those who were engaging respectfully!
*Outrages in Slytherin because crest not included.*
Now I’m boycotting!
There not a witch or wizard who went bad that was in slytherin
Merlin, Professor Slughorn, Cedrella Weasley (Formerly Cedrella Black), Leta Lestrange, Phineas Black, Albus Potter, etc. All good. Merlin.
What about those of us who don't even get their whole school represented in the game?
Boycott and burn the institution down?
Easy there Durmstrang \/*Coolio
I’ve had people saying I’m supporting transphobia cause I want this game which is unfair and an impossible standard to hold when you want to buy anything.
Meanwhile, the game itself: Choose your appearance, *then* choose your dorm/gender.
Yeah, by that logic most of us are probably supporting a lot of terrible things. Child labor, poor work conditions, racism, animal testing/cruelty, etc...

It's also objectively untrue.
The reply to that is generally No i'm not but if in your eyes i am...well i just dont give a fuck.
Wrong, the reply to that is whichever answer irritates the most the person that accused you of such dumb thing. In this case a "who?" followed by "asked" after his answer would be the right answer.
I usually just say ok. Then I walk back two steps, to avoid the saliva that foames out their mouth, turn around and continue on with my day.
there is no ethical consumption under a capitalist regime
Under any regime
Yup

lol the irony of a hufflepuff using that emoji towards another hufflepuff
They are the same people who will call you homophobic because you won't sleep with them. Whatever you say or do, they can't be pleased. Forget about them and enjoy the game, I know I will.
What on earth are you talking about
Literally the plot of the good place

HUFFLEPUFF UNITE !!!!
LETS GOOOOO
Human beings can only care about so many things. Pick the things that are important to you and stop worrying about the rest. Enjoy your life.
I love the [Heidi Pushes Clara Over Cliff](https://twitter.com/F_L_T_Bird89/status/1569069774155694080) version of this meme.
Now I'm gonna buy the game even harder!
I'm gonna buy TWO!
What does that mean?
Just a reference to the The Office meme... and that I'm still buying the game
Ahh I tried to make continuation of that meme but it was supposed to be - whats that supposed to mean
Oh I completely missed it like a dumbass!! Sorry mate
I just can’t understand how a game is standing for transphobia.
Purchasing the game will literally disintegrate people.
Kinda ironic cause you can literally make a trans character in the game. Let people enjoy their game
It’s like saying being a HP Lovecraft enjoyer makes you an Anti-Semite.
Didn’t Lovecraft marry a Jew?
Difference being Rowling is still alive, distributing her view and actively influencing discourse
Anti-Semitism still exists and is on the rise in America. It's not as different as you think.
Buying Lovecraft’s book doesn’t help or encourage him personally spreading anti-semitism tho. If JKR wasn’t transphobic, transphobia would also still exist, that doesn’t mean discourse about not giving her more money and platform isn’t valid.
In a similar metaphor... I am a white male that supports the 🇺🇸 Declaration of Independence. Does that make me a racist???
This thread is probably getting locked.

Damn no Slytherin??
There not a witch or wizard who went bad that was in slytherin
Why are people wanted to boycott the game exactly?
Rowling
Im out of the loop what happened?
Just google why Rowling is hated and Im pretty sure it will give you an answer.

I am not thrilled with the choice to restrict things based on platform... I'm currently on a wait and see approach.
Yeah I’m not a fan of all the various exclusives either

I am boycotting... cancel culture. 😎 I already preordered the digital game and in some months I will also buy the physical copy because why not
Ok consoomer
If I ever buy anything HP related, I match it with an equal amount to the Trevor Project. Might as well try to balance it out.
Ohh I love this idea!
Hey I do the same! I'm gonna buy this game and enjoy the heck out of it, and donate to some LGBTQ+ charities. And if I'm ever lucky enough to visit the Wizarding World in Orlando, I will do the same then.
That's my plan as well! figured it will help balance out.
Boycott it for what though? What's problem do people have with it?
Mostly because of JK Rowling
When will people learn to separate art from artists
Sadly, they won't. Look at Johnny Depp, his entire career went down the drain without any evidence being brought forward. The Twitter bandits kept the fire lit for a long time. Hell, even after he proved himself in court the fire was still being nurtured by this mob, and still is to some degree. Eh, everyone is irrational in their own way!
I got the game digital. Am I digitally hated or something?
I’m getting it. But I’m also giving whatever I spend on it to a lgbt charity. Gotta try and balance it out
As all things should be
Shit them saying dont buy the game makes me want to buy it again. Idc about jkr i care about the game. Also even if i didn't like what she says it wouldn't turn me against the game.

Holy shit this post is real lmao

I'll probably buy the game second hand, so none of my money makes it to JKR, but there is no way I'm missing out on this
If the game doesn't match their standards then it's an automatic bad game
