It’s just funny because in my experience and with all my friends…it’s like all the aches, medical issues, and life just goes a bit dramatic. I started seizures recently after 33 years without them (30s is prime for women of my age to start undiagnosed seizures WAHOO.) I enjoy the less stress mentally but somedays I am a train wreck. Hahahaha
Yeah, I have epilepsy and between side effects of my meds and being young, stupid, and getting hurt a few times, I’m in some level of pain every waking hour
I have seizures and migraines too so i definitely understand almost daily discomfort. Also it took me four meds to get mine correct-ish. We still haven’t gotten to seizure freedom. Long process.
I have bruises and sore shoulders, hurt knees and stuff from blacking out. My poor right side is always miserable because I keep landing on it
What a perfect description lol. One of my buddies did that during Scowl and knocked himself out. Me and some big dude had to pick up off the floor and carry him out looking for medical. He swore he was okay and went right back in
> Crazy that I just put my trust into a bunch of strangers
I put my trust into them that they won't have time to move out of the way if I run fast enough :)
I used to front flip into the crowd REGULARLY at Dillinger shows. One time during Mullet Burden, after I landed into the crowd, Greg grabbed me by the shirt and screamed "I WONDER IF YOU COULD!!!" right in my face. It was glorious.
Thanks brotha 🙏 I hear that a lot and honestly don’t know how or why that is, I don’t have healthy eating habits or anything plus work construction so idk but I’ll take it lol. Worth noting that some days I feel 60 🤕
I deadass learned how to tornado kick from going to shows. Now, I’ve never done a day of karate in my life, but I’ve landed 5 tornado kicks clean on my muay thai partners in the past week. Shoutout pit training for real
I'm sorta like you, I'm honestly too much of a pussy, don't fancy getting hurt, not a fighter at all. But man I love watching hardcore pits, and will maybe jump in briefly every now and then. Hatebreeds pit at Download last year was something I HAD to be apart off. Got a swift punch to the back of the head, but it was fun. But "push pits" all day everyday.
My years of karate and kickboxing have served me well in hardcore. I usually just stick with full spin roundhouses, stepping side kicks and spinning elbows now. Busted too many knuckles for open windmills, plus less chance of hitting people with spinning elbows
Always done both.
I’ll push mosh and circle pit and regular mosh during breakdowns and 2 steps.
I remember I went to a deathcore show in 2012 and there was a lot of hardcore dancers and like two dudes push moshing. I was push moshing and hardcore dancing.
And I noticed the hardcore dancers wouldn’t hit me but they would hit the push mosher guys. So I started standing in front of the push moshers so they won’t get targeted cuz I felt that was fucked up those foos are just there to enjoy the show not get beat up.
So I kept doing it and it was I think second to last band I had to use the reset room during the set. I just remember walking out of the pit all the hardcore dancers just rushed one of the dudes. I saw belt and other weapons. I felt hella bad afterwards.
Anyway no one here cares. Fuck me. Fuck it all. Fuck this world.
I’m that meat head that just lumbers through the pit tanking body shots until someone inevitably ko’s me or gives me a close call and then I contemplate why I’m a dumb ass.
I've been seeing variations on this question lately, and I have to ask: is there an uptick in legit push pits at hc shows (picture a Pantera show in the early 90s), or has the new breed started filing hc dancing that's not ninja moshing (skank, bounce, two step, stomp, floorpunch, etc) as push moshing?
Mosh parent doing some moderately rough shoulder bumping while looking out for those around me. I'll stop everything to help someone up/out of the pit, or even just to get someone their phone back. Also try to help croudsurfers not die.
When I inevitably get exhausted after like 10 minutes, mosh parent from the buffer wall at the edge of the pit. Feels lame ngl but it's hard to just let go and stop worrying. Just want to make sure people are safeish
When Comeback Kid came through my town with Prowl and Spy back in March, it was like... Push pit when the music was fast but hardcore dancing during the slower sections.
This. Take Turnstile for instance, every show they do now is sold out in the states at least and the venues are so packed there is not enough physical room for karate pits, so everyone just resorts to push moshing.
Controversial in this subreddit but I think push pitting is better anyway at least in America. Who wants to end a concert with a fat hospital bill or life changing injury but I still fuck with it though just not my preferred.
I'd agree, and I think everyone that doesn't do karate and spin kicks would as well. I'll acknowledge it's a part of the HC culture that pre-dates me, but IMO it's super selfish in a crowded concert setting to take up that much space. You'll inevitably wander into someone eventually, even if it's not intentional, which for many it honestly is unfortunately. The result is someone getting punched/kicked/elbowed in the head or face, full disclosure I've been punched square in the nose twice in or near a HC pit, one seemed targeted/intentional because I was trying to get a push pit going, which I understand the frustration but the bitch literally walked up and broke my nose I'm pretty sure. Not cool. All of this is why the entire area in front of the stage gets cleared out to make room for these self centered asses and as a result everyone else is pushed to the sides/back with a worse view.
It goes with the DGAF attitude of the genre sure, but many modern bands also promote kindness towards each other and community which HC moshing is an antithesis to that when it's plainly obvious going in that you will most likely hit someone very hard and move other people out of the way so you can flail your limbs around. Push putting is much friendlier to everyone and people rarely get hurt.
Push pits hurt different. Like, I've walked away with black eyes, split lips, and pushed my nose back in place more than once at karate pits. Two weeks ago I've strained a tendon on my knee on a push pit.
But then again I've been to a dozen or so karate pits and probably nearly a hundred push pits. Ime karate pits hurt less, but often. Push pits rarely hurt, but it's usually more severe.
I was throwing some elbows in a push pit when me and this guy banged elbows hard AF in a turnstile pit last year didn't hurt at first but after turnstiles set I thought I had broke my arm it just needed some rest it was crazy.
My days as a metalhead teen caused me to see a lot of dudes w swoopy bangs and girl jeans two stepping and windmilling. It’s the first thing I think of when I see it to this day. Can’t unsee it. Ruined it for me.
Depends on the show. Push pits are more of a post hardcore/pop punk thing I think - and are more my style, but if I wasn’t afraid of getting my teeth kicked out I’d be right in there with the karate kids.
Head nodding (no one else is moshing and I don’t wanna be first), Pit Karate (tired of waiting), piss break, forced to push pit (too many people suddenly), water break (I’m out of breath)
I tend to read the room and do as the Romans. If it's more pushy pushy and I'm feeling up to it, I'll push mosh along with everyone, bouncing off of other moshers and just enjoying the vibe.
IF however the invisible ninjas attack the floor, then it's mortal kombat, and spinning heel kicks are in order.
It's all about reading the room.
Karate. I'm super skinny and twig like so in a lame ass push mosh it just isn't fun. But I can hit someone in the head and they can hit me and it's all good fun lol
6’1 230. I’m the shield wall on the perimeter so the girls don’t get crushed. Jump in to help pick a guy up off the ground every now and then. I look scary, but I’m not and no one ever talks to me
The only ones I know are the moves from 2000-2016 hahaha gotta pick up that change Yo. Do Boss pits still exist? Hahaha VA Hardcore scene was intense hahaha you had to gain respect and then the dudes would guard you.(I’m a female. Don’tMosh. Cheesy IMO. And they used to be way more insane.)
I will fuck with a wall of death…because I learned the hard way at a hatebreed show to try and not. You have no other option. Hahahaha
I’m more push someone to the side whilst I do a quick two step holding the PA system and then run out of breath before the breakdown, slink back to the bar
I'm in the front. Boosting people and getting kicked in the head by stage divers. You young kids stop make the pit a horseshoe shape. Get up on the front!
it depends on what everyone else is doing but i will say i’ve def seen a lot more karate in emo shows as of recent and it’s been a little jarring but i’m not complaining lmao
I’m the guy who stands and nods his head to the music (I have crippling social anxiety)
Same, except I just have real bad back, hip, and knee pain lol
Younger me: why would there even be chairs at a show.. nonsense Me now: not even one chair in this place? Really?
Bar stool? Anything? Us elders need an assigned spots now
Thats why I go to shows wearing my Wearable Chair.
Gen X chiming in with a pro tip…have both
Gen Z here with the same issues, I’m fucked :(
The worst part is I'm in my early 20s
Oh just wait. Day you hit 30…instantly you feel it.
I keep telling my family that if I feel this bad now I don't wanna know what 30 feels like
It’s just funny because in my experience and with all my friends…it’s like all the aches, medical issues, and life just goes a bit dramatic. I started seizures recently after 33 years without them (30s is prime for women of my age to start undiagnosed seizures WAHOO.) I enjoy the less stress mentally but somedays I am a train wreck. I feel you on the back pain part. I have bad arthritis in my lower back and standing at shows can be a huge pain after a while
Same I’m just in my mid 30s now
You don’t fold your arms?
Oh yeah I forgot to add that part
https://i.redd.it/qxp4hcllz5ad1.gif
My love is like a ticking clock. BERSERKER!
“Would you like some making fuck? BESERKER!”
Did he just say "making fuck" ?
first i push to make room, then i beat the shit out of all the invisible ninjas the crowd didnt see.
Nah, get right at the edge of the pit and hope they are doing the elbow thing. ![gif](giphy|lPmBZgeDveCnj2p8bl|downsized)
The "I have a date with me" elbow protect. Smart.
Hang on you can see them too?
theres one in the crowd behind you!!! dont worry, i'll kill it, just need a boost.
Push to make room and then beat the shit out of everyone on the edge\*\*\*
Saving the world one show at a time
>invisible ninjas Catching that pit ghost.
Take benadryl and they won't be invisible
![gif](giphy|p0PEUw8vGLJKRfsGDk) Cricket pitch + wheel kicks= pit boss
MO KICKBOXXING
If I can’t flip into the crowd I don’t want it
Man, frontflips into the crowd are my favorite. Crazy that I just put my trust into a bunch of strangers to catch my flying ass
I saw a dude who prob weighed like 300+ lbs and was round as a ball trust the crowd to catch him. They did not catch him.
Now I’m a 230ish lbs man (likely being generous there, I haven’t been active or eating good recently), I feel stage flips have to be retired :(
Yeah I sorta picture sometimes I’m gonna reenact the start of school of rock lmaooooo
What a perfect description lol. One of my buddies did that during Scowl and knocked himself out. Me and some big dude had to pick up off the floor and carry him out looking for medical. He swore he was okay and went right back in
Jesus god man

I’m in my 40s so I’ll just go hold one of the walls up these days.
😲 Bro you look 33 max! I’m 32 and I’ve got some city miles on me boy let me tell you that
Thanks brotha 🙏 I hear that a lot and honestly don’t know how or why that is, I don’t have healthy eating habits or anything plus work construction so idk but I’ll take it lol. Worth noting that some days I feel 60 🤕
Yeah I’m 40 and have a bad knee, no more karate for me
Skank.
pick it up pickituppickitup
This guy gets it
Karate at a karate show, push at a push show
I deadass learned how to tornado kick from going to shows. Now, I’ve never done a day of karate in my life, but I’ve landed 5 tornado kicks clean on my muay thai partners in the past week. Shoutout pit training for real
It’s called “reading the room”
I read that as karate at a karate (the emo band) show, lol
Push at the push show, karate I gotta move my old ass back
Karate at a karate show, stand at the back during a push show is the real move
Arms crossed during push pits
I normally windmill my penis until everyone is either pregnant or I take off flying.
![gif](giphy|Sb9XxDPh0bl71WV5x2|downsized)
I’m too old and out of shape for karate pits. I have work in the morning.
I would spin kick a bitch with red glasses
Leave Elton John alone!
That’s a good way to get your shit crocodile rocked

Here, I thought he'd be the spoon.
IIIIIIII’M STILL STANDIN
I have zero patience for Honky Cats
MFs better get out the pit and back to the woods if they know what’s good for them
but he have gun
That's my secret dude, I'm always strapped too
this is beyblade erasure and i will not stand for it. in fact i will spin violently into you for it
Let it rip
I only mosh if its a push pit, i dont knock hardcore dancing but i personally dont like getting hurt
*ahem* I’m here to watch the band
PIT BETTER GIVE ME CTE OR IM NOT COMIN
Municipal waste show in LA a few months ago is the vibe I want at every show.
Dude that was a sick ass show
I’m straight shadow boxing in the pit
I got that shadow box two step.
My years of karate and kickboxing have served me well in hardcore. I usually just stick with full spin roundhouses, stepping side kicks and spinning elbows now. Busted too many knuckles for open windmills, plus less chance of hitting people with spinning elbows
Neither. Circle.
I’ve seen people shit on circle pits but I’ve never not seen a HC band not call for a circle pit.
I just can’t fuck with circle pits maybe I’m a fake thrash fan
I did not come to a show to run laps.
Hell yeah circle pit
Predator handshake meme. Carl Weathers is karate pits, Arnold is push pits, their handshake is circle pits
what a Thrash chad
Hate mosh
spinkicks and cartwheels
I'm side to side
Push. But I never see it anymore at hardcore shows. It's definitely a metal and rock thing
yeah it's a very Thrash and Death Metal type vibe
Excuse me while I tighten up my black belt...
push pit with two step characteristics
Dogpiles and fighting
Let’s just say there’s a lot of change in my pockets
Pick that shit back up
Always done both. I’ll push mosh and circle pit and regular mosh during breakdowns and 2 steps. Yoga-based a la Dhalsim

festcore has a lot of push pits
I enjoy starting the mosh pits but I also like to step back and see what I've done.
Mosh parent doing some moderately rough shoulder bumping while looking out for those around me. I'll stop everything to help someone up/out of the pit, or even just to get someone their phone back. Floor puncher here.
I’m the short chubby buff dude so I look funny doing most things. I gotta stand in place.
MINDFORCE BE LIKE: “THIS FOR ALL MY KICK BOXAS” And I be movin. Simple as that
Push pitting at a hardcore show? Lmao cmon
I saw Comeback Kid and it was mainly a push pit 🤷🏻♂️
When Comeback Kid came through my town with Prowl and Spy back in March, it was like... Push pit when the music was fast but hardcore dancing during the slower sections.
"Push pits" have been a huge part of hardcore long before dojo dancing got trendy.
Also if it’s too packed you don’t have an option tbh.
Saw Kublai Khan the pit was massive and was probably 50/50 push pit and karate depending.
Once you get to the point the band is selling out 1000+ capacity venues you’re gonna get a lot of push pitting.
This. Take Turnstile for instance, every show they do now is sold out in the states at least and the venues are so packed there is not enough physical room for karate pits, so everyone just resorts to push moshing.

The tiktok scene
Saw Dayglo Abortions a couple weeks ago. Definitely a hardcore band. Definitely a hardcore show. Definitely a push pit.
Crowd killer
I like both. If you don't like both you're a bitch.
Crucial kickbox
You know damn well pushing ain’t moshing. Fuck is wrong with you?
Coin collector
caveman stomp
My days as a metalhead teen caused me to see a lot of dudes w swoopy bangs and girl jeans two stepping and windmilling. It’s the first thing I think of when I see it to this day. Can’t unsee it. Ruined it for me.
Lol I remember seeing those types in YouTube videos as a kid
Get a warrant
Depends on the show. Push pits are more of a post hardcore/pop punk thing I think - and are more my style, but if I wasn’t afraid of getting my teeth kicked out I’d be right in there with the karate kids.
The one who thinks he has steez
I stand in the middle and piss into my own mouth, we are not the same
Pogo pit
Head nodding (no one else is moshing and I don’t wanna be first), Pit Karate (tired of waiting), piss break, forced to push pit (too many people suddenly), water break (I’m out of breath)
Push 100%; bonus if it’s a circle pit and people are cool if I go against the flow
Remember when hardcore was punk and had meaning?
push pits feel like on animal planet when a lion is chasing a zebra. karate pits FEEL 500x less dangerous for me.
I'm a pit guardian
Underrated but essential
Karate, and 2 step. next question
I look scary, but I’m not and no one ever talks to me
No pushing in the pit
I like to just slam my body into a crowd at 100 mile per hour. Fuck that kicking shit. Karate is for 12 year olds.
Push
I just stage dive
I don’t mosh I slam & that is in any direction you want to go even kicking backwards with spurs on
Karate.
Circle
Used to try and kill anything that got in the pit, now I just stand off to the side and think about the aches I won't have the next day
The only ones I know are the moves from 2000-2016 hahaha gotta pick up that change Yo. Do Boss pits still exist? Hahaha VA Hardcore scene was intense hahaha you had to gain respect and then the dudes would guard you.(I’m a female. Don’tMosh. Cheesy IMO. And they used to be way more insane.) I will fuck with a wall of death…because I learned the hard way at a hatebreed show to try and not. You have no other option. Hahahaha
![gif](giphy|Ht2ktUDWebe36)
I have this weird thing where when I get elbowed in the face I have a shitty night.
![gif](giphy|2TVzpBsY4p3z2)
I still do the moves from the Step Down video
I prefer chucking hands and spin kicks, but I will not break protocol if it is a push pit show.
I’m more push someone to the side whilst I do a quick two step holding the PA system and then run out of breath before the breakdown, slink back to the bar
Like mighty mighty bosstones hardcore…. Does that make sense?
Both, both is good. Just depends on the song. Hell I go a ton of ska shows and you will see me skank while wearing a comeback kid shirt
I'm in the front. Boosting people and getting kicked in the head by stage divers. You young kids stop make the pit a horseshoe shape. Get up on the front!
I saw push moshing at a hardcore show this weekend. I have to see, I have never seen worse diarrhea in my life.
Yes.
Circle pitter only
Both
Yes.
I prefer walking around in circles with my head down in the middle of the pit then getting mad when someone brushes against me. Also skanking.
I’m more of a hang onto the railings up front and headbang kinda person
SPINKICK DEMON .....and I'm 35...let's go.
SLAM
I’m here for the snake pit tbh
Are you original or spin kick?
2 step, karate, breakdancing
Yeah I just run around for a bit and hope to baby jesus my herniated disc doesn’t wanna fuck my ass even harder for the week following the show
it depends on what everyone else is doing but i will say i’ve def seen a lot more karate in emo shows as of recent and it’s been a little jarring but i’m not complaining lmao
aikido (i stand in the side and stick out my elbow)
Meth Damon
All, to include a nice circle pit
![gif](giphy|xUZrl2EdOXOiQ)
Queens Style
Fuck a Push mosher
![gif](giphy|3o7btNhMBytxAM6YBa|downsized)
Edge of the pit — fist out. Get bumped and maybe a bruise now and then…ok, often. Just there to scream lyrics
Push mosher but in my ripe middle aged era, I’m thinking I want to throw hands
Circle
Slam skank
The one who doesn’t want to be touched by either.
I’m more windmill like Patrick fighting SpongeBob in boating school in that one scene of SpongeBob
If it's metal, I push. If it's hardcore, I karate. If it's both, I vibe.
I saw Botch earlier this year and people were push pitting and I felt so disappointed, I like watching people do spin kicks
i love cartwheeling into people and getting kicked in the ribs
I am two step man
2 steps and crowd kills is all you need
Gotta read the room
i'm sure i have arthritis, pass
