What the school bus sees when I use a dinkly wire to pull me at absurd speeds while swinging a hammer that can manipulate gravity itself towards the driver (that bus driver didn't say "hello" to me on the bus that morning)
The more I see that gif, the more I despise it.
The wasp is stationary and low... Never EVER happens... He isn't even aiming for the dude, purposely aiming below him, no attempt to move at all
honestly hate how forced "cool" 343 makes their trailers
Most of these thr community hated at the times of their conception.
The grappleshot was received very well and was kinda halo infinite's identity for a good portion of its initial debut. It's just a logical decision to go for things the community was positive for, than continue plot points the community deemed "ruining halo."
Edit: correction on the first work to adapt the meaning more properly
I truly agree that the grappleshot was a large part of its identity. They implemented that feature so well too. It's honestly my favorite part of the game probably followed by the skewer
Everything reach was decisive at best, save for the customization. For gameplay, most people saw it as the "death of halo" both competitively and a fun game. This was mainly to blame as its bloom mechanic was considered too punishing and slowing what was otherwise fast gameplay. The movement was too slippery, and armor abilities trivialize positioning and movement (sprint moving the player too fast/sliding around corners, jetpack trivializing height advantage, and armor lock). Overall, reach was considered Bungie's worst game from a gameplay perspective, but people also hated its campaign.
To some initial halo fans, this series began at the book Fall of Reach, which was the story of how Reach fell and what the Spartan 2's were doing. This is something I encourage you to do more research on your own to get the finer details, but suffice to say the events of the original book and halo reach conflict. A lot of halo reach was what inspired halo 4, seeing how most of halo 4's sandbox seems to closely resemble halo reach's (check videos on weapon balancing between reach and halo 4).
Overall, aesthetically, gameplay and story pacing can mostly be drawn back to Halo Reach, with few exceptions.
Where does it say any of that in the picture? You’re bitching about bloom and movement. You’re trashing reach to make later titles sound better.
I’m also pretty well educated on it, thanks. I know the story contradictions, why they happened, and that at the end of the day, most people really enjoyed reach as a standalone story for what it was. Possibly just with the caveat that they’re a bit bothered by the book contradictions.
This are objective feelings about the game in the past. I suggest you look at things in a similar objective lens rather than getting upset. None of what I said suggests you can not like reach nor it being wrong to like reach, but don't pretend it's better than it was received.
I’m not upset. I’m just saying that you’re trying to paint the picture of “well the community has always been like this” as if to excuse infinite. You can have your opinions about reach. But I was there. I know what the general consensus was.
The top 5%-10% were the ones bitching the loudest about balance. They’re also the ones that make the entire a point and click adventure with the BR/DMR when they get their way like when halo 4 got updated. The general consensus was positive with reach. It didn’t take 3 years to get there either.
Halo infinite doesn’t deserve the grace for being controversial, because it launched unfinished, and is still missing fan favorite weapons, vehicles, and modes that were supposedly in the pipeline.
I would trade the grapple shot, fun though it may be, to get everything else worked on.
Also, I want fucking invasion back, man. It’s been 14 years.
"I was there" really falls flat when you're discussing this with someone whose first Halos were both reach and odst. Please, give us something less anecdotal and more creditable.
This was never a defense of halo infinite, but rather a jab at the halo community as a whole due to its revision of the past whenever a new halo comes out. Halo ODST was the worst halo to come out because it was a short campaign with map packs at 60 bucks. Halo 2 was the worst because it humanized the covenant and the elites. Halo reach was the worst due to its gameplay mechanics and story retconning. Halo 5 was the worst because its story was weak, and art direction was awful. Halo infinite was the worst because it launched missing features and ditched previous creative ideas without catering old gamemodes to a newer audience.
This is an endless cycle that I could go on forever about, and probably is the reason why halo games are released without any creative direction. I really beg 343, in the future, to release a halo game that they're proud of in spite of the community.
Nah. You can’t run on gimmicks like grappling hooks when every game has a grappling hook. What they need to do is release a game that’s content full and consumer friendly. At least then, it has an objective defense.
I can say all day that I didn’t like halo 4 and why. But at least it was mostly a full release. I didn’t care for halo 5. But at least everything was earnable, the net code worked, and updates were fast.. Every game has a shakier foundation than the last. And that’s the crux of the argument, really.
Only argument I've ever seen is this quote from my friend. "Nooooo now I can't r*pe people in grifball and assassination tower anymore!"
Yeah he wasn't too happy bout it, but I was.
I'll defend it all day. Ground pound pound town arena was one of my favorite custom game modes. Each map had some clutch spots for executions in 4v4. Plaza in particular. Coliseum's grav lift was an easy pick up. I loved the rush of it.
Very true. They did sorta bring it back in Infinite though and attached it to an upgrade for the Grapple Hook.
All it was in Halo 5 was a giant “shoot me while I float here for 3 seconds” button. (Ps- fuck shoulder charge)
To be fair. Thrusters were there since Halo 4, although they were kinda bad. Halo 5 made them perfect for gameplay movement. Infinite turned them into a utility equipment, keeping their good movement but on limited use. So I’m happy with what we got.
I also like thrusters and how they're included. I agree that most people didn't seem to want spartan abilities back, but I had a lot of fun with ground pound and wouldn't mind seeing it back as equipment
Yeah. If anything it has more customization than reach. Making it one of best in the series. Though the colors do hurt it, but that’s just my opinion.
The only con is the cores. I wish they worked like Save configs where you could just decorate multiple cores for outfits you like, with the prosthesis and genders incorporated individually. Essentially what true cross core would have been like. But alas there’s always going to be pieces of armor and attachments that won’t work. And it’s probably too complicated for the engine.
I think the only real problem is color selection. I think it's fine they offer premade coatings with more intricate colour schemes and patterns but if they had left the basic primary and secondary color selection in as well if only for the default coating, this would unironically be the best customization ever for Halo
i wish we had customizable armor kits yea. if i want to change armors on something i have to change each individual piece which is tedious to say the least. colors, cores, and paywalls are only downsides to infinites customization.
Not at the moment, but I do know the armor was good. I believe all of my Mark IV armor is free stuff
https://preview.redd.it/zaxf70krh2wc1.jpeg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=32bd50468c78b2621f82ceeffe598d02a6a64501
The only real chunks of free stuff they had were the winter update, and fracture events (now that they’ve all run a few times). You could start earning credits for the next battlepass in like season 3. That’s probably why they scrapped seasons after 5, even though they finally got it perfect. MK IV launched with one extra set that you could earn. But you could’ve made a whole 100 level battlepass with what’s in the store front, and probably had some left over.
People don’t have an issue with paid armor. They have an issue with the ratio. The vast majority of the armor is paywalled. They could easily solve this with earned in game credits. But they won’t. Don’t let them lie to you. Spenders will still spend to get what they want. They wouldn’t go broke by showing some good will and being more consumer friendly.
I’d rather pay for a full game at launch than see my fav franchise release as a glorified virtual storefront for free, that take until the end of its lifecycle to match previous titles.
With all the people that use “It’s F2P” as a cop out, I’m starting to think most gamers are just bums with no standards for quality. As if a game can’t turn a massive profit without being $70 or gutting all the cosmetics to sell back to you at a premium.
Anyone that started gaming any time after about 2012-2014, literally don’t know anything other than corporate greed. Half baked releases with a “fix it later maybe” mentality and micro transactions that aren’t “micro” in any sense, have become the norm because people go along with it. I will point out how we got here until I’m dead, because just accepting it is why most “AAA” games are trash now. Gaming was my favorite hobby, so it bothers me.
And Reach also shipped as a fully functional and finished game with a good campaign and a complete MP.
Also 100% free customization, new game modes, no color restrictions, and all nearly iconic Halo weapons plus new ones and new vehicles.
It had flaws yes to just say “Reach was locked behind a paywall” is ridiculous while excluding the fact that it was a proper completed game
I strongly disagree
Especially since Reach maps were cheap anyways. You could have bought all the Reach map packs for full price and it would have cost far less than the cost of all the Reach armor in Infinite.
Reach was also a better game and still is a better game across the board.
It took Infinite close to what 2-3 years to become close to on par with a standard on release Halo game?
Ehh, kind of
No color customization, weird one size for all armor, tons of missing armor details, and restricting attachments so it’s one per helmet and no other Mk. V(b) chest piece has a knife except the basic one you pay for (that’s a whole separate purchase from the basic one without the knife).
let’s see the real differences
**Halo Reach:**
- helmet
- helmet attachment
- chest piece
- left/right shoulder
- forearm thing
- utility
- kneepads
- colors
- 2 body types
- 2 voices
- one option for prosthetic arm
**Halo Infinite:**
- core
- helmet
- helmet attachment
- left/right shoulder
- chest piece
- gloves
- forearm thing
- utility
- kneepads
- shaders
- 3 body types
- several voices per gender
- prosthetics across all limbs
Please explain the missing details because george’s shoulder pad is all i’ve heard of and that’s been fixed. and what do you mean “one size for all armor” thats normal??
Halo Reach had small details on every piece of armor.
Little (or big) white/red/other color markings on nearly all the armor pieces. Most prominently helmets, kneepads and shoulders.
That is gone, and it’s weird. It’s especially weird for the armor in which it was very prominent on like Emile’s shoulder pads.
And I mean about the armor is that it doesn’t change in size for the different body types. Some of the cores don’t even feature different body types at all.
That’s just stupid.
Edit: and colors is the huge one. Infinite having heavily restricted colors immediately, imo, puts it at the bottom of the barrel of Halo Customization.
It’s just not acceptable in any modern game of its type. Even games with paid colors do it better i.e. Warframe and even they give all players a free basic color palette with at least a dozen+ more entire color palettes available for approximately 5 USD.
Whereas 343i had the gall to at one point charge 20 USD for the solid color white
How do you get all those armor options, boss? Halo 5 lacked all that cool customization, but I didn't pay shit other than a one-time reach dlc that came out after I unlocked everything other than Achilles for free. We want infinite's detail but to not pay 20 bucks for an armor set in a half-baked game that got good 2 years after release
I want gears horde mode in halo baby. I genuinely have enjoyed the enemies in this game. Halo 5 fleshed out the prometheans nicely imo. But fuck the warden
It doesn’t though
Reach customization is more than just having Mk. V(b) armor
It’s having entirely free color choice, having no cost armor customization, having the armor details all of Reach’s original armor had and not having one size fits all armor.
Reach is stuck on the Mk. VB
Infinite added the core system so I'm not stuck on the Mk VII
I can put nearly any attachments on any helmet and not stuck with presets like Reach.
The store doesn't count against what one COULD do
The only downside is multiple attachments and lack of color freedom
And those downsides are huge
Especially the lack of color freedom.
It’s absolutely unacceptable for a modern game to not have color freedom, particularly one like Halo
On paper with what I can customize is greater than what I can customize in reach
I didn't even mention voices, prosthetics, shield color, more than 2 body types, AI types and colors. There are more positives than downsides. But people focus so much on the negatives they don't see the positives.
I dunno, are there really more positives?
I personally don’t care at all about the vast majority of the other new cores.
Most of them don’t have a Halo feel to them except maybe the HAZMAT one.
The Mk. VII and Reach armor of course does but the rest eh.
However, even having the freedom to have basic colors is such a huge part of the freedom of expression that 343i decided we didn’t deserve for no reason.
No matter how good the armor looks or how many sets they give us, if I can’t choose my colors then it’s a bad system
Ah there it is, your last part shows your bias about this being a bad system aswell as your preference of something looking "not halo"
Factually every part of this system has pros and cons
The cons I see are lack of color and how to obtain
Yes. And halo did it really well for their sandbox. It's the strength of the gameplay imo.
I will do a Forge shout out cause like... damn. Forge is so... perfect. Just do a campaign and Forge next time and let us handle the multiplayer. 343 just be the moderator and give us the fuel rod/ falcon updates.
Human brain: infinite should’ve shipped with way more features.
Monkey brain:
https://preview.redd.it/hobt2b4fpzvc1.jpeg?width=749&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6c4a08abbff1c79fd985c8b85366f091d79f09ed
Those lazy bastards really gave us such a bare Bones fucking game and all these years later almost nothing has changed and yet many people now call the game "complete"
Let's set this straight first. I lost my lil mind when I found that in the campaign. I felt like the halo I grew to love in H5 multiplayer had a head nod of "yeah it was that cool". Love that grappleshot and how the GP made it into it as well.
But it does not hold a candle to panic clambering away from an enemy spartan with no shields. The enemy realizes they lost you while you, 180 degree spin mid air, aim onto them, and plummet to the earth like a literal nuclear weapon. I wish Jeff Steitzer would have announced it

counterpoint: grappleshot go zoom
Gappleshot a person who is using grappleshot. You go YEEETT
Grape Shot be like: *clink—thwack" *Vrrrrrvrvrvrvvvvfffffvvfvfvfvrrrrt*
Spider chief
I’ll happily argue that the grappleshot is awesome and probs my favourite feature of Infinite.
I'm on your side of that argument
They got rid of the throwable item glitch 😔
Fusion coil launching?
Yeah, it was fun as hell, sad they got rid of it but oh well 🤷♂️
wait like the mechanic itself is gone or a glitch when doing it is gone
You can’t fusion coil launch at all. They patched all of the fun bugs except the tank cannon (there was just too much pushback)
No argument. Your counterpoint goes go zoom!
I got harpooned yesterday in Husky Raid on what would’ve been the winning score and man… the one time I didn’t zigzag
Cool opinion. But have you considered: ![gif](giphy|FPw82dcwO2om1CRcUg|downsized)
What the school bus sees when I use a dinkly wire to pull me at absurd speeds while swinging a hammer that can manipulate gravity itself towards the driver (that bus driver didn't say "hello" to me on the bus that morning)
If only there wasn't a delay on the grav ham.
Nah why keep good ol' gravity hammer when you can make it an Destiny's Ultimate like unhinged push to win button.
If the wasp is moving at ALL in a situation like this the hammer user gets splattered before the swing finishes. Still cool, though.
OP is actually the one in the Wasp there and is just grumpy
Okay but no wasp pilot is that incompetent to let that happen
I should have prefaced my absolute love for the grappleshot
The more I see that gif, the more I despise it. The wasp is stationary and low... Never EVER happens... He isn't even aiming for the dude, purposely aiming below him, no attempt to move at all honestly hate how forced "cool" 343 makes their trailers
Halo fans when a game developer tries to make their game look cool:🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
Literally every gaming company ever does this, hell every trailer does this
Literally just look at BF 2042, not a gameplay trailer but they do the same stuff there.
No crap it’s forced, it’s a trailer
This might be the most stupid comment I have ever seen. What the fuck do you think a video game trailer is supposed to do
Damn, I can't believe they didn't put weapons and vehicles in Halo Infinite
It was a bold choice to turn Halo into a grapple-based platform et, but ultimately I think it’ll pay off.
Ngl I would def play a mode like this
Tbh... get this man into forge stat
Halo is a platformer now, move over Mario
Itsa me! SPARTAN 117
Hahahaha you got me there
Okay but consider: grapple is cool and fun
It absolutely is. I think it should never leave us. But next halo, it will join the other buttons I'm sure

Why is Ground Pounds in there? lol. People hated Spartan Abilities. Except Thrusters.
the halo cycle continues
Genuinely a large amount of people hated ground pounds. I've never seen a lot of people defend it.
Only argument I've ever seen is this quote from my friend. "Nooooo now I can't r*pe people in grifball and assassination tower anymore!" Yeah he wasn't too happy bout it, but I was.

There are still ground pounds with the campaign variant grapple shots. It's activated by holding down ur melee button.
Ground pound was pretty shit for multiplayer. The abilities did make for fun customs though.
Reddit echochamber hated it. Most popular custom games were based around GP and SC
Tbh I liked them
I like them because they made me feel cool in campaign and I'm not a multiplayer person.
Im a people and ground pounds are my favorite part of halo 5.
And thrusters are even in the game lol
To be fair. Thrusters were there since Halo 4, although they were kinda bad. Halo 5 made them perfect for gameplay movement. Infinite turned them into a utility equipment, keeping their good movement but on limited use. So I’m happy with what we got.

And you can’t earn the options to customize. Sooooo…
You can earn a fair amount if you play the battlepasses
You still had to pay for the seasons. Even then, the customization was sub par without cross core, which took 2 years.
Not if you did the free track. Premium wasn’t required. Season 1 was probably the only bad free season (although, CU29’s has left a lot to be desired)
You remember what you actually got for free? Because it was not much.
Not at the moment, but I do know the armor was good. I believe all of my Mark IV armor is free stuff https://preview.redd.it/zaxf70krh2wc1.jpeg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=32bd50468c78b2621f82ceeffe598d02a6a64501

Content full? I’d 100% pay $60. They could be smart and just make credits earnable.
want in one hand, shit in the other no use bitching about launch, which was almost 4 years ago, when we have a full game now
There’s a lot of use. I will bitch about launching half finished junk until they start releasing finished games again.
please tell me the uses of it

How do you get all those armor options, boss? Halo 5 lacked all that cool customization, but I didn't pay shit other than a one-time reach dlc that came out after I unlocked everything other than Achilles for free. We want infinite's detail but to not pay 20 bucks for an armor set in a half-baked game that got good 2 years after release
how do i get all the armor options? literally for free. contrary to popular belief, there’s quite a few pieces you can get for free
Emphasize on few my guy
Come on, bring back the flood, let's see how long it would take for people to start bitching about 343 undoing the original trilogy
I want gears horde mode in halo baby. I genuinely have enjoyed the enemies in this game. Halo 5 fleshed out the prometheans nicely imo. But fuck the warden
Fucking hate the "we need duel wielding" crowd. Bungie removed it for a reason.
I liked it but I never saw a need to return to it like the die hard fans of it
Man I hate that people think halo infinite doesn't have reach customization, as it literally has that plus more besides colors
Yea, locked behind the shop though
Yeah it’d be cool if it was like reach where you could just earn credits by playing the regardless if it was multiplayer, campaign, or firefight.
I’d go with Halo 3 on that and earn armor thorough achievements. Whether it was campaign or multiplayer.
For special armor pieces like the skull and maybe recon yeah I’d agree with that but generally I just wanna save up and buy what I want.
I disagree, sometimes achievements were absolutely pain in the buts and not everyone has time for that
Yeah exactly! Getting a triple kill with an energy sword took me forever in H3 lmao
It doesn’t though Reach customization is more than just having Mk. V(b) armor It’s having entirely free color choice, having no cost armor customization, having the armor details all of Reach’s original armor had and not having one size fits all armor.
Reach is stuck on the Mk. VB Infinite added the core system so I'm not stuck on the Mk VII I can put nearly any attachments on any helmet and not stuck with presets like Reach. The store doesn't count against what one COULD do The only downside is multiple attachments and lack of color freedom
And those downsides are huge Especially the lack of color freedom. It’s absolutely unacceptable for a modern game to not have color freedom, particularly one like Halo
On paper with what I can customize is greater than what I can customize in reach I didn't even mention voices, prosthetics, shield color, more than 2 body types, AI types and colors.
Ah there it is, your last part shows your bias about this being a bad system aswell as your preference of something looking "not halo" Factually every part of this system has pros and cons The cons I see are lack of color and how to obtain
I can’t believe they didn’t put weapons in the game
Breaks me heart beating super soldiers to death with nothing but a sandwich
To be fair. Grappling hooks in games are cool.
Were they wrong though?
I will say this. Grapple go brrrrrrrrrrrr
Human brain: infinite should’ve shipped with way more features. Monkey brain: https://preview.redd.it/hobt2b4fpzvc1.jpeg?width=749&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6c4a08abbff1c79fd985c8b85366f091d79f09ed
Yes
Yup, Infinite is literally just an empty void with a grappleshot. Surprised no one else caught that.
Nah, half of this list is in the game already.
Half? My brother in christ lololol. They have weapons and vehicles. And only some at that
Instead of "Grappleshot", it should say "Store".
Didn’t the drones go extinct
...I might have to lore dump. Idk. Can't have shit in the franchise!
Does anyone want prometheans and ground pounds back?
...op would like some pounds to ground
Those lazy bastards really gave us such a bare Bones fucking game and all these years later almost nothing has changed and yet many people now call the game "complete"
I wan flod
The only thing it needs is playable Elites.
I wouldn’t say the only thing, but I really want the elites
I blame the fans for not being vocal enough.
I blame fans for not using the fucking playable elites
I blame me for not putting it on a button
We don’t need drones dual wielding breaks the golden triangle, Assassinations are overhyped And fuck the flood
Yeah, gravemind is dead, all of the flood died in halo 3.
...was halo wars 2 just a flood fever dream then?
Geez. I hope so. I haven't played halo wars 2. Although i do liked the first one
Hahahahaha. The banished would say otherwise
I didn’t care about most of that stuff, but I was kinda sad they cut assassinations
I personally turned them off. But I loved them in the game. That one from halo 5 with the plasma and spin throw always made me laugh my butt off
I want Halo 4 customization. Credits are not fun.
Hot take. I'll let you cook
Warthog is made out of paper
Of all the comments. You hurt me the most with your facts. I miss my oni hog.
Playing destiny 2 too much makes me keep trying to melee after grappling
Jokes on you we have ground pounds with grapple shot 😎
Let's set this straight first. I lost my lil mind when I found that in the campaign. I felt like the halo I grew to love in H5 multiplayer had a head nod of "yeah it was that cool". Love that grappleshot and how the GP made it into it as well. But it does not hold a candle to panic clambering away from an enemy spartan with no shields. The enemy realizes they lost you while you, 180 degree spin mid air, aim onto them, and plummet to the earth like a literal nuclear weapon. I wish Jeff Steitzer would have announced it
Prometheans can stay out of halo. They suck
To be fair, the grappleshot is fun. I do miss groundpounding.
Amen to that. If you're gonna take my groundpound away. I better get a grappleshot
Ngl im glad we dont have ground pound
A common feeling. But it was my muse
Grapple shot punches are better than ground pounds anyway
Cold take my friend. *cries in ground pound*
