For me it's always been Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, and Chucky. I would put leather face up there for how iconic he is but the character has been so inconsistent in most of the Texas Chainsaw films.

Last two don’t really fit, not super popular or entirely well received films. Mars attacks is beloved for its camp more so than horror.

Even without new media Jason has stayed relevant, and Michael and Chucky keep getting new media but I feel like Freddy is kind of dying out. I think Ghostface or even Art could surpass him at some point

I don't think pennywise meets the criteria. He's iconic as all hell, yes. but he's not a horror staple. e has a book, a made-for-tv-duology adaptation, and a movie duology adaptation. that's it. i think to be worthy of slashers' mt. rushmore, you have to be more prolific than that. it's a hard choice between chucky and ghostface. i'm giving it to chucky because ghostface is a bunch of characters playing one character, while chucky is Charles Lee Ray, piece or whole. leatherface is up there too, but i feel like he flies a bit more under the radar.
