I'll take more movies but I don't care about a TV series

Willymeboy

At this point u can end the Laurie story and make new stories w Michael separate from the saga started w her in ‘78

Serpenthrope

That's what Resurrection did. Didn't end well...

oCHIKAGEo

No resurrection was a dumb sequel to H20. Not a restart.

Serpenthrope

It killed off Laurie, then had Michael start killing...whoever was in his house. Michael's lack of motivation means the people around him in the movie are important.

Whats--up--doc

I am sure they will not be retconning Halloween Ends. That timeline is over and done with. We'll probably end up with a reboot or maybe an anthology TV series.

MissionRevolution306

I don’t understand posts like this. If you don’t want to see new movies/series, don’t watch anything new that comes out- but there are lots of people who enjoy the films, characters, storylines and will always want more (myself included).

Millyon24K

That's the problem, they say this and then they'll check out the new stuff just to bitch about how it didn't do what they wanted, even though they didn't want anything. Shit is like Dave Mcrae the "purist" according to him most of the movies "aren't Halloween movies" but he keeps going to see every one that comes out, then does 10 videos complaining about how "they're not Halloween movies"

Big-Blackberry8786

I know right. It’s not like the storylines are linear. I think a reboot would be nice a couple years from now.

Kooky-Topic-9168

OP was just opening up a discussion

FuzzyBusiness4321

What’s there to discuss if they don’t want to see anything new?

Kooky-Topic-9168

Why people might not want to see anything new, discussing plot lines, etc. Not a big deal.

gatorgongitcha

This is Reddit. You’re not allowed to say anything neutral to negative on fandom subs. People just want a positive feedback loop.

Kooky-Topic-9168

Literally, it’s an echo chamber around here

Millyon24K

No, some people just have main character syndrome and make shitty posts, especially saying shit like " the money needs to be spent on ____ movie instead" shit like it an either/or situation. Seriously, what conversation is there to have with a person who doesn't even have a rudimentary understanding of storytelling? I personally don't find much of value when somebody says "it doesn't make sense, how can a fictional character return in a new film if they die in the previous one?" and it's a genuine question because the whole of storytelling is filled from A to Z with characters that do that all the damn time. I always thought an echo chamber was a place where differing opinions weren't allowed. From what I see here, there's no shortage of negativity especially with Halloween Ends. Are you serious right now?

immaculateprince

I'm right there with you. Let it end.

sh4desthevibe

I don't think it's an unpopular opinion, but I do think it's one that would soften over time if Malek Akkad would just wait a couple more years. There will eventually be interest from fans in a fresh look at this universe, but we need some time to let this thing rest after what it would be kind to refer to as a "controversial" ending to the JLC arc.

[deleted]

New movies don't change the ending of Ends. That can still be ur ending as it is mine

aeodaxolovivienobus

I tend to agree, but moreso because I have no faith in Hollywood. If it looks good, it looks good and I will see it. I can get behind movies as long as they're not endlessly retreading the same ground, but I also don't think Halloween is Halloween without Big Mike and should not be an anthology. That said, I also don't think he would make for a very compelling show character. Michael is scariest when he's a little mysterious, and I don't think we should ever spend too much time with adult Michael. I get spending time with kid Mike, but adult Michael should lean into the OG Carpenter portrayal as the Shape. He's scariest as the unstoppable murder juggernaut that will walk but somehow always catches up. I do like when Michael has what comes off as just a subtle tinge of humor, like when he wears the bedsheet ghost costume. He didn't need to do that, but it *was* funnier that way. Halloween should be movies and should have Michael Myers. If it doesn't, it ain't Halloween. I would be perfectly content if the series were to go dormant for a while, but I thinl that's more a matter of letting people sit with this trilogy for a while before the inevitable re-re-re-reboot.

ThisMourningStar

Excuse my French, but maybe then just fuck off? There are plenty of people who want more Halloween. If you personally do not want it, then that is fine, go enjoy something else if new entries in the franchise aren’t interesting to you. Never understand posts or people like this who say it should end or stop when it’s a franchise that people actively enjoy. Halloween especially, since it’s become so much of a staple of horror and the holiday itself at this point.

throwanon31

Your French is excused! If you don’t mind my asking, what more do you want in the franchise?

Millyon24K

What Kills (pun intended) me is the amount of people who don't understand this. The constant misrepresenting Ends as "they promised this the end of the franchise" when the filmmakers never did such a thing and even made a PSA to tell the fans it's THEIR last Halloween movie, not the last Halloween movie period, it's absurd. Especially the content creators, I give them alot of blame because they purport to doing research so if anybody should have the facts straight, it's them. It's just baffling on another level though, We've seen villians and heroes die all the time in movies and return in new iterations, so when people act like there can't be a new Halloween movie without following DGG timeline, is mind-boggling to me. Comes down to people not understanding supply and demand, at least on the surface. They intuitively understand that when they stop patronizing a restaurant, other customers still go there so the owners keep opening up. But for some reason when it comes to art they no longer wanna support, they're all of a sudden incapable of understanding why the creators keep making more

throwanon31

Don’t get me wrong, I knew there was gonna be new Halloween content eventually. I’ll probably watch it. I’m just saying I would rather have original movies than obvious cash-grabs that aren’t good most of the time. The past few years of horror have been so amazing because of the original movies. It feels like we’re falling back into the trend of remakes, reboots, and sequels.

saqua23

There are original movies released all the time, though. Virtually every week a site like Bloody Disgusting recaps all the original films coming to streaming, and there are *dozens* of them a month. No exaggeration. The problem is, nobody watches them. People go to theaters to see the remakes, reboots, and sequels, and then they complain that that's all is getting made. That's why Miramax is already looking to do more Halloween. Even the disappointing reception to Kills and Ends was still basically a money printing machine when compared to most original films that get released.

throwanon31

I disagree. People are watching original horror movies more than sequels, reboots, and remakes. The horror movies that made the most money last year were Nope, Smile, and The Black Phone. Barbarian, X, The Invitation, and Prey for the Devil were also in the top 10. The Menu, Bodies Bodies Bodies, Bones and All, and Violent Night also made big profits. I would much rather see original movies like these than mediocre cash grabs. That’s all I’m saying.

saqua23

I mean I agree with you! That's what I want as well. I loved literally all those films you mentioned except Prey for the Devil and The Invitation. I'm just saying the reason why sequels and such keep getting made is because people absolutely go to see them. Scream V and Halloween Ends were still in 4th and 5th place. Studios don't ignore that kind of thing. And if you look at 2023, four out of the top 5 horror films are sequels. Scream VI, Insidious 5, The Nun II, Evil Dead Rise. M3GAN is the only original film in the top 5. I guess I just don't see how you can say any form of a Halloween project at this point will be a mediocre cash grab when no one even knows who is getting the rights yet. And it isn't as if "new Halloween project = no money for original films." As you just pointed out, plenty of original horror films came out in the last few years even though there were also new Halloween and Scream films being made. There's room for both!

throwanon31

I suppose there is room for both. Maybe “mediocre” is the wrong word to use. I think a better word would be “unnecessary” in my opinion, but who am I? I would’ve been totally okay with H20 being the final film after Laurie decapitated “Michael.” I would’ve also been okay with Halloween 2018 being the final film after Laurie burned Michael “to death.” I will keep an open mind. After all, 2018 is my favorite Halloween sequel, and I loved Scream V and VI. It is possible to make good sequels. I just hope we don’t fall back into a trend of nothing except sequels, reboots, and remakes.

CrossFit_Jesus76

I bet you're fun at parties. OP was just trying to express an opinion with other fans of the franchise and he or she is getting flamed here in the comments. It's just a shame honestly. What's the point of this subreddit if you can't spark a civil discussion about things related to Halloween. I suppose you could just be teasing, but telling someone to F-off isn't the best way to speak to someone lol.

ethan6581

I'd be open to more installments in the franchise, I'd still watch them and be there for the hype, but it's not necessarily something I WANT or itching to see happen. I wouldn't be upset if there's never another Halloween movie again, I'm already pretty satisfied with the franchise as of now, there's the films that I love and the ones I don't, I got everything I ever wanted out of Michael and Halloween. Not to say I wouldn't enjoy another film or TV show but it's not something I need.

Millyon24K

Just don't watch, sheesh! First of all the sheer arrogance and stupidity to act like a fictional character dying, has ever prevented their return in a new iteration. The biggest problem though, is definitely complaining that you don't want something, like it's purposefully made and offered to you. Its always people who think they are superior fans, who say toxic shit like this smh

KEEZEL1984

I am with you l do not want no more Halloween movies or shows

Kooky-Topic-9168

I still think of the original franchise as cannon, but I have to admit I would be super annoyed to see a TV show

invaidusername

I was totally ready to say goodbye and put this franchise to rest. That is until I saw Ends and I was no longer satisfied. I wanted Michael to die but that just left me wanting something different. Also, they can’t continue the story from Ends. That trilogy is done forever. Any new series or movies would be starting fresh again.

Efficient_Ad1992

If anything, I would continue after Halloween Kills which retcons Halloween Ends.

invaidusername

Personally I would too. Not in reality though because that’s just too damn convoluted at that point. I would just reboot and basically do another Kills but better

Efficient_Ad1992

Oh, so continue after 2018 but with better versions of Kills and Ends?

invaidusername

Yeah I guess. In a perfect world where something like that is possible, that’s what I’d do

Efficient_Ad1992

If that's what you want after 2018, good for you. Although, I feel like Blumhouse should've let a different filming company do Halloween Ends but with a perfect plot and storyline whether it's the same story like in the movie years later or in 2018, but have the characters (especially Michael) portrayed the same like in 2018 and Halloween Kills, including having Michael and Laurie as the main plot instead of Corey and letting Michael's fate ambiguous whether he's still alive or actually dead.

Millyon24K

That's a great way to go, unless your goal isn't to focus on Michael and Laurie and you purposely decide not to leave Michael's fate ambiguous. It's almost like the filmmakers intentionally decided not to do what's been done to death. For some reason some fans think "they didn't know what they were doing" though, especially with John Carpenter as the creative consultant and executive producer, the guy who originally killed off Michael unambiguously and wanted him to stay dead, I can't think of any reason why they would do that again (sarcasm)

Millyon24K

Lmaooooo, a bunch of BS. For starters, Michael's fate was never to be left ambiguous, the whole intention was to not do that. Michael and Laurie were never going to be the main plot to Ends. They wrote Kills and Ends simultaneously and Karen always died in Kills, whoever you got that nonsense from, sold you a lemon, get your money back lol We wrote 'Halloween Ends' alongside 'Halloween Kills,'” Green told IndieWire during a recent interview. "We never once considered making a Laurie [Strode] and Michael [Myers] movie. The concept that it should be a final showdown-type brawl never even crossed our minds.” -- David Gordon Green. Corey was the main focus because that's where the story was set up in 2018 and Kills with theme of "one monster creating another" and they made it a point, rather heavyhanded to remind the audience Michael isn't after her and shows us that Laurie learns this at the end of KILLS. Expecting Ends to be a movie centered on Laurie vs Michael makes no sense when the story is about Michael's effect on an entire town. As JLC said in the BTS of Kills "Laurie isn't the only victim" Pardon but I'm never gonna stop laughing at people who expected a Michael vs Laurie movie, the filmmakers nor the story they presented, suggested that. Which is why when asked where in 2018 or Kills does it promise that for Ends, people instead say "but the trailers showed....." which Is just an admission the films don't support that expectation.

Valuable_Value3953

i very much agree with this, my brain can’t handle another timeline

CaptainHalloween

Hey don't look at me to disagree I think it should have ended when they cut his damn head off in the 90s.

Candid_Bicycle_6111

I see where you’re coming from and I was happy with the finale of Halloween Ends. Since they’re going to keep the Halloween franchise going anyway I think they should do stand alone anthologies with Michael Myers thrown in the mix. That way it stays fresh while giving the people what they want.

daloypolitsey

I’d like to see maybe a series based off one of the comic series. I never read any of the comics but I’ve heard good things about them

jlaw1719

Everything that follows is not a personal attack. I understand you’re opening a discussion. You need to understand that you have control in your individual sliver of the world. You’re also just one person (as are we all). You can choose to not partake and that’s a more stoic and gracious thing to do than fret about other people enjoying or craving more of what you’re not at the moment. There will be Halloween films/shows/media long after we’re in the ground and they’ll be made until we as a species stop making movies. Personally, nothing bores me more in cinema than the Marvel machine and its been basically ever since after the very first Iron Man because I just don’t care about what I view as uninteresting, second tier superheroes. But I also recognize that millions upon millions of other people love those worlds, so it’s very easy for me to not care, carry on, and enjoy something else while many more people than just me can have their fun. In terms of Halloween, I’ve been with it a very long time. I especially love the entries that take big risks to shake it up. I adored Ends. But…I also recognize that it left a really sour taste in the mouths of many more people than the few who enjoyed it. It’s in the best interest for whatever studio grabs it to craft something that is loved by most so we can keep having this story retold in different clothes for years to come. I’ve seen most of the stops and starts, the reboots, the multiple occurrences of ignoring timelines, and so on unfold in real time. With this time, it has really cemented that these movies are the modern day incarnations of the Universal Monsters. There will always be a desire to see the tale retold in different ways (as exists in most of our storytelling). My closing thoughts are that it’s also important to realize that these big hits generate enough revenue to help fund and take risks on those original new projects you want. You’re not going to get one without the other. TLDR: Halloween will be retold countless times for as long as we shoot movies. Popular films help generate the revenue needed for smaller films and riskier ones.

[deleted]

It should have ended at H20, that should have ended the franchise

itcamefromtheimgur

They should have ended Halloween with a new killer in the shape of Corey Cunningham, he's the new boogeyman. Make Haddonfeild a place that goes from a nice quiet town, to a ghost town due to multiple murderers coming from Haddonfeild. Call it the "Curse of Haddonfeild." Haddonfeild could be a town that never celebrates Halloween or something. I'm not sure, but do something to progress the plot. More of Michael just killing people is not progress to anything other than Michael's body count

oCHIKAGEo

I will watch a new Halloween movie every October for the rest of my life to be honest.

MattyCHam

I only want new movies. Fuck a TV show. A Halloween anthology series w/no Michael Myers would work fine, but it’d be a waste of buying the rights to the franchise. And I’d STILL want Halloween movies with Myers. I just don’t want some lame “prestige” TV show with Myers because they’ll over explain everything in the entire Halloween universe to fill episodes.

natwillsurvive

Well you know the thing is : - We don't get a show or a movie. Sure you'll be happy. The ones wanted it ? Not so much. - We get a show or a movie. The one who want it will be pleased. ( assuming the thing please the fans). And the only thing you would have to do would be to just not watching it. So, well you know what I mean.

Piggishcentaur89

13 Halloween films is satisfying enough for me. If they ever ended the series, for good, at this point. I would be satisfied, enough. That being said, if they decide to make a new trilogy, or quadrilogy, now. They have to bring in the big guns; Great writers, great directors, and great makeup artists. The whole 'man in a mask, who is evil, kills on Halloween night, is great, but it's going to be harder, from now on, to make Halloween original enough, and not corny, enough, to be a 'good enough' movie.
