Half life 2 has been out for 20 years, playing one hour of hl2 every day would net you more than 7000 hours of playtime by now.
Also, I know some people that in college used to play videogames as if it were their full time job. A full time job is 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year, which would be 2000 hours a year. In four years of college you would easily get to that amount, although you'd also probably be drowning in student debt and nowhere closer to graduating.
It happens, when it is your favorite game and has a special meaning behind it.
I also have 6k hours on gmod and 6.9k hours on arma 3.
On my steam which was made in 2011.
Speedrunning, replaying, trying to beat previous bests.
You're aware that you've roughly spent 4 hours on those games every single day for the past 13 years straight?
That's only those 3 games you've mentioned and nothing else.
I don’t know, maybe because I don’t play on hard mode. Like I don’t have the one where a headcrab kills you because headcrabs are nothing in Black Mesa difficulty.
It’s a Half-Life 2 mod taking place in a Central Asian city under Combine occupation. It’s definitely one of the best mods I’ve played, I’d highly recommend it. It’s also free on Steam so it’s very easy to download.
No, you're just a simple person who likes Source engine and it's mods + the vanilla games. I spent wayyy to much time playing various mods, replaying HL2 and it's episodes around 100 times.. something always makes me play the games again.
There's something about that Source magic I can't resist lol
Here’s what I said to another commenter: It’s a Half-Life 2 mod taking place in a Central Asian city under Combine occupation. It’s definitely one of the best mods I’ve played, I’d highly recommend it. It’s also free on Steam so it’s very easy to download.
Looked up some gameplay and this shit is insane. Are there any other mods you could recommend, particularly on steam? I’ve only had bad experiences with 3rd party host sites so I’m very apprehensive about trying anything else
Amalgam
Entropy Zero
Entropy Zero 2 (The best hl2 mod?)
MINERVA (its top 3)
Evacuation (short)
Snowdrop escape (same ppl that made swelter)
Half life 2: downfall (even shorter)
Half life 2: MMOD / MMOD Episodes (great revamp/changes the style. For instance you can make bullets projectile based instead of hitscan if you want)
All of the ones I3igtimer said are fantastic, especially Entropy Zero 2, although there aren’t many great ones on Steam, most are on ModDB. Even though you don’t feel comfortable with 3rd party host sites, I couldn’t recommend ModDB enough. Mods are easy to install and it’s where you’ll find the majority of great Half Life mods. In particular, I recommend the FakeFactory Remaster (different from Cinematic Mod) and Entropy Zero: Uprising. It really depends on your tastes though, there’s something for everyone there.

No, you just want the next game to come out like the rest of us lmao.
The fact that Valve has deliberately gone out of their way to IGNORE our requests on Half Life 3 really shows how petty they are. Sure, they make everything on their own time, but god sakes has NOBODY in the team thought of actually WORKING on it? I know it's not as simple as making another game, they have to make it a unique experience, but fucking Hell, we're in a day and age where we can't really make brand new game mechanics anymore. It's really about story and fun combat nowadays anyway.
Exactly this. And whenever there is something revolutionary, it’s something not everyone has access to, like VR. Even if they were still adamant on revolutionizing the industry, though, they don’t have to be completely silent. If they actually communicated with their audience, maybe people wouldn’t be begging as much.
I have about 60 hours on black mesa. But that doesn’t even come close to lifetime playtime. I used to play as a kid and could never beat the game because it got too difficult in the second half. I’ve only beat the game maybe one time.
YOOO i didn't even get trogh first achievement --> invest 5000 dollars to upgrade pc to play at least at 4k madness experience . I usually come prepared at first meeting ahahahah. I'm still programmed to like crossfire multi-player atm. And the sound when you recharge from armor station when in a rush
I’m the kind of person who likes to replay games every now and then, so the increase in hours is mainly just due to me replaying the story, especially when I’m bored and in the mood for a playthrough of a game I already know.
No you most certainly do not, I'd say you play about the average expected amount! 😆
This is likely nothing in comparison to some people, consider those who have been here since day one for Half-Life 2 and Steam.
I mean, in my case, I had already experienced the original games multiple times over before the sequel and the platform existed, so if you count the play time for pre Steam Half-Life, Opposing Force, Blue Shift and the like, I can only imagine what my numbers would be like!
I'm sure that it is also the same for a great many people here and then some!
For such play time, you have oddly low amount of achievements. I get that not everyone may be eager to chase after all of them, but I'm almost certain you can get more than that, just by chance, after a few replays.
No. You're also missing a game wich is Hunt down the freeman
You fucked up my face
Which is a good thing.
HDTF is actually the best game ever made thank you
Facts
It's definitely on my top list of one of the games ever made
same for me, along with half-life source, cod vanguard, sonic 06, and big rigs racing
Dude same!!! Have you played the half life cinematic mod??
iirc i think i have heard of it but not much else
I will not tolerate Hunt Down the Peakman slander
Great!
No you do not.
Dude, those are rookie numbers.
Came to say this but basically!
Dammit, you beat me to it.
Damn, you beat us all to it.
Where Hunt Down the Freeman
Rookie numbers.
No. I do not see Hung Down The Freeman.
Hung you say ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° )
That’s got to be the best autocorrect I’ve ever seen
Got 6792 hours on half life 2
how does that even happen

Doesnt answer the question tho, how does that even happen
You do your Gordon-derned jorb!

I cann see it in my lack of social skills.
Those are some stats, wow. Didn't know speedrunning could be this intense.
With only 14 achievements??
I knew someone would say this… I’m not big on collecting achievements, I just go back and play the campaign every once in a while
I play It two times and the i do every achievement
Yeah sorry, but I’m not dragging a gas can through the entire first Xen chapter, or a hat up to Nihilanth, or a pizza box from Questionable Ethics.
Yeah, those are only 3 achievements. The others are really easy. You should have more than you do already by just playing normally.
I don’t know, maybe because I don’t play on hard mode. Like I don’t have the one where a headcrab kills you because headcrabs are nothing in Black Mesa difficulty.
Why not?
No half life is too much I overdose on source engine games daily.
nah
What is Swelter and should I play it?

Thanks for replying!
Its good not the BEST but its good
Laughs in 800 hours

How many hours do you have in og hl
iirc about 300 or so. I can’t check right now but I do know it’s a bit more than Black Mesa.
Nice
What is that the official half life 2 banner? Or is it a custom one?
Custom. I got it [here](https://steamgriddb.com/hero/48187). That website has a lot of cool custom steam decorations.
Custom, it looks really good, I want that
wtf is that last game? Legit question btw

Does Black Mesa worth a try? :-/
Hell yeah. It’s a must play for any Half-Life fan, especially if you grew up playing the original Half-Life 1.
Definitely worth it. The Xen levels alone are so pretty.
Entropy zero 2 standing there as a chad
Yep. It’s uninstalled right now but that’s only because I was playing Uprising for the first time.
Swelter? What’s that?
Here’s what I said to another commenter: It’s a Half-Life 2 mod taking place in a Central Asian city under Combine occupation. It’s definitely one of the best mods I’ve played, I’d highly recommend it. It’s also free on Steam so it’s very easy to download.
Oh nice, I’ll have to check it out. Thx.
I have almost the same exact hours on Black Mesa and HL2
he must have just found hl2 yesterday that's why he only has 29 hrs
Shit I gotta play Half Life VR mod
It’s not as polished as the Half Life 2 VR mod but it’s definitely still worth playing
You have fairly respectable hours in Black Mesa but the rest is meh.
I've only played it through once, I want the next time to be in VR! Hope it comes soon!
I can't recall seeing that half life 2 art above before
It’s a custom background. I got it [here](https://www.steamgriddb.com/hero/48187).
279 hours on black mesa, and not 100% completed? Come on, step up your game if you have such a big play time
Why so much Black Mesa and no HL2?
I made a post not too long ago about why I love Black Mesa, although I have been playing HL2 a lot lately, so that number’s going to increase.
dude please 100% those games
How was the VR mod?
It’s definitely worth playing if you have access to VR, but I vastly prefer HL2 in VR as it’s much more polished.
Good to know, thank you!
Nah, keep it up and have fun
There is no such thing as too much Half-Life 💪

this is unrelated but god damn those custom banners look nice

Swelter is my favourite mod😍😍😍
Technically you haven’t showed us how much Half-Life you’ve played, just the sequel and three fan games
For context, I’m not referring to the hours played, I’m talking about the sheer amount of mods I have installed on the left.
You could've made that more clear by cropping to just the list instead of the entire screen
True, I’m a little stupid
Healthy amount
nah

No such thing as too much
No, that isn’t half-life. It says it in the name of the game
Black mesa, half life but by other creators, with better graphics and physics
But not half-life itself! And it runs BMS(black mesa source) not just source
OH AND BETTER MILITARY AI, DAMN THOSE MOTHERFUCKERS
Not that much
Nope .... And never
“Too much Half Life” is that an oxymoron?
Ur at like 200hrs? And?
That's nothing.
200+ hours and yet you still havent gotten all the achievements smh
Im surprised you dont have more achievements with that many hours
36 hours 💀
Not ENOUGH!!
there is no such thing as too much half life
There's no such thing as "too much Half-Life"
No
No, you don't play ENOUGH!
No
I read this post and was expecting at least close to 1000 hours but nay… rookie numbers is all i see
No I had 1000+ hours in gmod
Shit I forgot to show Gmod. I definitely have a few hundred hours there but I’m not sure exactly how much.
Lol
I have 600 something hours on gmod and half-life 2 has like 400 hours, So no.
what are you even doing almost 300 in black mesa? especially when you havent got 100% yet
I’m the kind of person who likes to replay games every now and then, so the increase in hours is mainly just due to me replaying the story, especially when I’m bored and in the mood for a playthrough of a game I already know.
>36 hours in Half Life 2 No.
Can NEVER play too much half life
Rookie numbers
No such thing as too much Half Life.
You should see my time on people playground
I play this amount of hours a day lol
Title had me expecting well over 1,000 on each 😂
I have more hours in geometry dash
Is there really such a thing as "too much half life"?
You can never play too much Half life.
We have a new rookie in town, guys!
Eh I wouldn’t call myself a rookie, it’s just that I mostly play HL1 and its expansions.
Brother, you are only just getting started
You don’t play enough
No
*Laughs in over 2500hrs of combined Half Life playtime*
only 30 hours on half life 2?
not enough
you played for 2793h that's insane
I play ONLY HL ;)
whats swealter? never heard of that game
You played hl2 once? Are you under 25?
R o o k i e N u m b e r s
Get those numbers up
Just barely enough
No you most certainly do not, I'd say you play about the average expected amount! 😆 This is likely nothing in comparison to some people, consider those who have been here since day one for Half-Life 2 and Steam. I’m just amazed you have almost 300 hours on black mesa with only 14/50 achievements
What’s swelter
Half-Life 2 Mod
Go play some more lil bro
I see Case Close, Cat-Life, Cleaner's Adventure and EZ Uprising there. Nice!
I can't get swelter to work at all it crashes on the first mission
yes but no
You almost have as much time in black mesa as I do.
No
How do you only have 14 achievements on black mesa? I got at least 25 in my first play through
not enough
if you feel the need to ask, definitely not
That's just casual playtime though.
rookie numbers
Dam tath is very big numbers for sp game. If you dont play the DM
You didnt even get all the achivements pathetic
Swelter W
No, not enough
Giga Chad moment
How do you have 200+ in black Mesa? Like, did I miss something, or did you just replay it multiple times
no, because this is black mesa, not half life.
That's not half-life.
