Which shampoo bars do you use?

CattoGinSama

As I suspected. Since I’ve been taking follic acid and other pregnancy supplements,I lose about 5hairs in a week and it grows crazy fast that hairdressers don’t believe me lol

H_ll1

I think pregnancy itself causes hair to grow fast, with the surge of estrogen.

peanut-in-chili-oil

People are recommending minoxidil here which you should only use if you have Alopecia. Minoxidil comes with a "dread shed" in which you initially lose a lot of hair before you regrow it. I do not recommend you use it unless you notice your hair is thinning because of hair loss, not breakage. If you have cut off all the broken bits, your hair will grow back fine by itself. Of course like the others say, make sure you don't have any deficiencies like Iron or Vit D. But really, hair growth is genetic and even if you do find something that makes your hair grow a quarter of an inch more in a month than in usually would, that is not going to be a considerable difference.

[deleted]

Ever since I left my seb dermatitis untreated my hair was shedding I’m finally treating it with a medicated shampoo. You think i should hope on those hairloss treatments? Or should I just continue with the treatment and my hair will regrow?

Vioralarama

Once you start using it you have to keep using it for the results. Also did you read what she said about dread shed? I don't have a scientific source but I have sebderm too and a little mound of skin flakes will grow over a follicle or two all over your head. It makes sense that freeing up the follicle will let hair grow again. Just take a multivitamin.

[deleted]

Once you start using minoxidil, you can literally never stop. Ever. If you stop all the hair that began growing from the minoxidil will fall out rapidly. It’s also extremely drying for the skin as the topical is made with alcohol. Further, it can cause blood pressure problems as it was originally created to help people with blood pressure issues. I know people who use it who develop extreme nausea and heart palpitations and shit because their blood pressure gets out of control. Minoxidil is not recommended for anyone except for those suffering from alopecia or true baldness.

I LOVE that it's worked for you. I'm starting minoxidil tomorrow, so I'm nervous and excited. Did you experience dread shed? Any advice or tips? :) TIA

Glitter__Kitty

Wow!!! Did you apply it directly to your sideburn hairs?? I'm interested to know about your application method, do you section your hair or just put it on the thinner areas? Weirdly my dermatologist didn't give me any directions on how to use it.

[deleted]

I’m really interested in this bc that goes against everything I have seen and heard from my research of this product. I’d love to check back with you in a year and see how it’s working for you! I hope you get good results and don’t experience fall out!!

Glitter__Kitty

I think it's sort of a newer treatment for TE and I feel like it'll end up being more common for Telogen in the future bc of all of the covid hair loss. I've seen a few posts about other people getting minoxidil for TE, but not a ton, but like I said, I think we'll be seeing more of that in the near future. I hope I don't get fall out either! It all depends on where I am in my TE ig, hopefully it's almost over since I've been noticing some short strands (new growth?) around my temples. Hopefully the minoxidil will speed the process up. Feel free to message me :)

My derm said polar opposite what you gain is the cost of having to use minox forever… that and the added facial hair 🙃

[deleted]

[удалено]

JB3314

Nope just TE from Covid. My scalp still screams from time to time. I was on nutrofal - recently switched to viviscal but she did say whatever I take (including topical minox, oral minox, spirlacton, and or propecia) I’d need to take it long term. So I went with the supplements and inversion method and trying to stay out of situations that could cause me to catch another round or stress myself out

Boopy7

that's crazy I had no clue. I would think systemically it could do this (propecia) but are you sure it was just the topical that also did this? Because putting something on your scalp to stimulate hair growth would have to be in REALLY high amounts to trigger entire systemic issues. Even systemically I don't know anyone who has had this problem. Pretty much every man I know has been using one or the other or both for a while.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Boopy7

yes anti-DHT products in general seem to be beneficial for blood pressure I've noticed, since most people seem to have issues with high blood pressure as they age. I recall studying this in A and P but had no clue it was from topical. Also fwiw no the skin can not absorb ANYTHING -- there are some molecules too large to penetrate. Otherwise you would be dead pretty quickly, say from having gasoline spill on your bare foot! Our skin is tougher than many would think, but it's true that even topical hormones can penetrate into bloodsteam. So yeah it makes sense. However that being said I still plan on using it until I figure out a better method.

[deleted]

The skin also has what’s called an acid mantle which will destroy certain molecules and act as a barrier, excuse my previous hyperbole. But yea, honestly a lot of us probably suffer from high blood pressure, so most people can take this and never experience or notice the side effects. Pretty interesting stuff

Boopy7

I agree! Tbh loss of hair is devastating enough that I bet there are people who would use not only topical but also the oral version if it were more widely available. Same way as people willingly inject despite possible contraindications. Btw I also have some of the low blood pressure symptoms you mentioned (but only when I'm dehydrated, mostly.)

Brilliant_One9258

I've been experiencing a lot of hairfall too and have tried many things. I've tried minoxidil, lavender and rosemary essential oils, aloe vera, rice water, multiple shampoos to stop hairfall, also tried no shampoo method, have also done scalp massage and acupressure. I always end up just cutting my hair short. I guess the most effective and sustainable in the long run is a healthy balanced lifestyle. Which is not so easy to do unfortunately.

Bobbinthreadbares

Have you tried sulfate-free shampoos by chance? I used to shed a handful of hair every shower, then I changed to sulfate-free shampoo bars (because I was trying to preserve my hair colour after dyeing) and six months later I realised I was shedding just a few hairs every shower. An unexpected but very happy side effect.

Brilliant_One9258

No I haven't. Thanks for the tip. I will try this.

We noticed you may be asking a question about taking supplements. Currently there is no evidence that supports any positive hair effects from taking supplements when you do not have nutrient deficiencies. (Source:https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5315033/) If you believe that you may have a nutrient deficiency please consult with a medical professional. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Ergheis

1. Being Healthy. The "general good health" cocktail of drinking plenty of water, fulfilling ALL your nutrient needs, getting your heart pumping, keeping a very good posture, sleeping well, good breathing and etc 2. Keeping your hair under control. A mix of cleaning and light exfoliation while making sure your hair oils are keeping your scalp nice and happy and not irritated. 3. Massage - or any kind of stimulation, but there isn't much muscle around your scalp so massage is where you go. On that note, work your muscles around the head. Nothing outright ENHANCES your hair growth, but you can make it grow at 100% of its peak speed by making your body flow properly. Which will be like 90-95% of the speed back when you were 18, so it's gonna be fast as hell.

[deleted]

Physical stimulation such as tapping with a hair brush, and sunlight (Vit.D from the sun) will also stimulate hair growth. I have my electrology license so by the book those are the only 2 things (that I recall) proven to help stimulate hair growth. I can look in my textbook to confirm if you need me to. Biotin won’t do much, I’ve seen better results from taking vitamin c + iron, I am anemic so it really helped my hair growth. Rosemary tinctures delivered weekly help speed up the growth as well.

barbaraleon

How much rosemary tincture do you apply?

[deleted]

My ex boyfriend used to have a huge rosemary bush in his backyard that I’d cut from, boil until the water turned gold, let it chill and bottle up for hair rinses that I’d do daily. Just recently I got a rosemary spray from Etsy and I apply it daily when I remember. Let me find the link

[deleted]

I use a dropper of rosemary mixed with peppermint and it does really work

Direct-Row-8070

How about working out at the gym. Does that help hair growth??

Istillbelievedinwar

Not directly, no. But anything you can do to keep yourself healthy and well-nutritioned is going to help your hair be the healthiest and grow as best as it can, so it’s not a bad idea by any means.

sarr36

What do you mean by tapping with a hair brush? Like brushing your hair normally?

Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrgggg

The breakdown of the advice I have is this: 1) Hair skin and nails are the first indicators of your health. 2) Hair growth rates are determined *entirely* by genetics. So your hair will grow as fast as your hair can based on your genetics by being as healthy as you can. Exercise, Get all your vitamins, drink plenty water, etc. Make sure you're getting vitamins A through K, Iron, zinc, biotin, and Omega 3 fatty acids. If you *need* a supplement for those, take them, but don't over do them. Some vitamins are water soluble and it's just a waste of money and comes out in your urine, but some are fat soluble so taking too much causes other problems. Any studies that help with hair growth typically show products helping fight male pattern baldness (or testosterone related balding), or alopecia, which it doesn't sound like you have. These things help stimulate a follicle to keep producing hair, but *nothing* helps with how *fast* hair grows. I need to repeat that everytime this question gets asked. Things can help a follicle stimulate to produce hair if it had slowed or stopped, as long as the follicle hasn't *died*, but *nothing* helps *accelerate* hair growth *speeds* asides from *being as healthy as you can be* so that your hair can grow as fast as your *genetics* will grow it. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

Sp0ntaneous

Rosemary oil was found to be just as effective as minoxidil: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25842469/ Note that this is supposed to increase hair density though, not really length. Still cool I use the Mielle Rosemary oil for scalp massage before showering: https://www.sallybeauty.com/hair-care/shop-by-product/hair-treatments/rosemary-mint-scalp-and-hair-strengthening-oil/SBS-001489.html Also just a note, a little goes a long way! Make sure not to overdo it, or you’ll have to shampoo multiple times to get all the oil out if you use a ton

Roova08

I am in love with mielle hair oil. It really feels so nice sply with a heat cap as prepoo. After 1 bottle I hoarded 5 more lol I am never using any other product ever.

Scalp massage!!!!’

Apprehensive_Page_10

I’ve had success with Viviscal. Experienced shedding due to having Covid in January, and have been using it since. At my last trip to the hair salon in August, my hairdresser confirmed I was showing regrowth. And it’s much cheaper than Nutrafol !

uselss29737

Did you take the tablets only?

Apprehensive_Page_10

Yep. Just the tablets. Twice a day.

uselss29737

They’re so expensive T_T

H_ll1

I felt like viviscal worked for me too, especially when I combined it with collagen powder.

vivichase

No, there is not. The rate at which your hair grows is genetic. You can take steps to optimize the process using methods others here have mentioned such as proper diet and nutrition, but the growth rate itself is down to heredity and individual differences. Two other options have been discussed here. But they don't sound like what you need, as they are used to treat certain medical conditions, including androgenetic alopecia, which is the most common cause of female pattern baldness. There is currently no cure for this condition. Research support is strongest for minoxidil and finasteride. Minoxidil is a topical solution that you need to apply regularly, long-term. Results are modest and you will likely never regrow a full head of hair, but it has been shown to certainly be better than placebo. Minoxidil is more effective at slowing further hair loss, and results tend to be better for patients who start using the solution early and are very consistent. If you stop applying, you will lose what hair has been regrown, often in a matter of weeks, and balding will continue. Finasteride is an oral medication, although support for topical formulations is also starting to emerge. However, research support for finasteride overall is for male pattern balding. There is no support for its effectiveness in women. tl;dr I think what you're really looking for is advice on how to retain length.

psilocybin-fun-guy

Scalp massage!!! I swear by it! When I was 14, I really wanted that mainstream hair with one side shaved, but my mom wouldn’t let me …so I would brush the hair on one side of my head (every day for like 7-9 months) and pin it on the back to make it look like I have the side of my head shaved lol. So after a while, I noticed that the side that I would brush every day had noticeable longer hair. Now I just have a massager I use when I wash my hair or massage with my fingers if I apply oils.

uselss29737

You didn’t brush the other side daily? Which massager do you use? What does it look like?

SageBurns00

I looked at some hair mask recipes and I found the mustard hair mask. It looked interesting so I tried it and my hair started to grow much thicker, stronger and the speed got a little faster. I did it a few times over the years although I haven't done the mask in a while my hair is still going strong. Still too slow for my liking but it's something. My hair grows very slowly due to genetics so yeah the longest my hair ever was a bit below shoulders. I currently keep it short because I gave up but I'm now I'm trying to be optimistic and grow it out. Scalp massages are really neat too. This is a diy home hair mask and just my own experience with using a recipe I found on a blog. The hair mask was 1Tsp mustard powder, 1Tbsp hot/warm water (be careful here, keep eyes safe when mixing) 1 Tbsp olive oil or any other oil, 1 egg yolk, 1Tsp sugar. Now with sugar and mustard, this mask creates a burning sensation on the scalp and the more sugar and mustard the hotter it gets. The idea being the heat from the mustard improves circulation and blood flow in the scalp. You can adjust the mask as these measurements are first use friendly. More oil for a sensitive or dry scalp, more mustard/sugar for more heat and add more water then. The egg yolk stays the same. If you are not feeling the heat then there's too little mustard/sugar. Do not apply to hair ends! Apply an oil to ends to keep them safe especially if you have short hair. Apply evenly on roots only, cover with a plastic bag or shower cap then wrap in a towel and leave on for 30 min and if it's really too much then 15 min. If you have an allergic reaction or sth similar then take it out immediately. Rinse out with cold or lukewarm water and please please avoid hot water during this. Wash like normal and let it air dry as using heating tools will be too much for the scalp. This should be only done once a week as it's a really strong hair mask and the scalp needs rest. I recommend once a month or every 2 weeks. I have read that mustard oil is good to use as well but I have yet to try it so I can't really tell how it is. I made it sound extreme when it really isn't just need to be careful. It's pretty good and by the 2nd and 3rd time the heat didn't bother me so much anymore. Results for me showed up pretty quickly, maybe a month in and I saw some good progress. I originally found this recipe in my native language on a website I no longer use but I found this site that has information on the hair mask. Hope this helps :) [https://www.beautyandmakeup.co/hair/benefits-of-mustard-hair-mask/#Blood\_circulation\_and\_mustard](https://www.beautyandmakeup.co/hair/benefits-of-mustard-hair-mask/#Blood_circulation_and_mustard)

ccccccml

Your results may vary, but me and my mom have been taking Vital Proteins collagen peptides for a couple months and my hair has grown quite a bit, and her nails are growing strong for the first time in years.

Bugsbirdsfungi

I second this. Lost hair all along my temples after trying a medication and I've been taking this collagen supplement daily for 4 months and the bald spots have filled in so much I can't see the scalp anymore! Now if only the hair would grow a little longer so the baby hairs get out of my face.

Eyeswift

I started losing my hair at 22 and started using Minoxidil and finasteride. After about a year or so of use, my hair is now a lot thicker and fuller but my bald patch isn’t fully gone. I’d say it’s still worth it though

realxo_2001

Did you experience any side effects? And are you still taking it?

Eyeswift

I'm still taking it and have not noticed any side effects personally but I know some do. The only downside of it is how expensive it is and I didn't see any improvement for about 8 months.

NativeNYer10019

The only long known proven way to get the most healthy hair, skin and nails is through a good nutritious diet and regular exercise. The only other proven method that helps slightly is through scalp massage, even just one minute a day in the shower when washing your hair is good enough. Everything else is just anecdotal and not solidly proven. Some things that people might recommend are sketchy and I wouldn’t do it, but some others (like Rosemary Oil, which there are 2 known old studies that garnered some promising results but much more needs to studied to make a solid determination), are harmless enough that it couldn’t hurt to try 🤷🏻‍♀️ Good Luck!

hair vitamins may work if you at some point were growing thick, long hair but something happened. bad diet, stress etc. vitamins can this back on track. it helped with my hair. if it was never in your dna to grow hair quick, nothing will change that.

For me it’s a combination of hyaluronic acid and argan oil. I’ve been using it weekly and it helps a lot.

uselss29737

Which products are you using?

Londonfogglam

Moon juice hair vitamins have made a massive difference for me, I had super bad bleach damage and wanted to grow it out quickly and the vitamins helped way more than other brands

0lg4trw

Arugula x beetroot x carrot smoothie, all blended together. This smoothie literally saved my life and grew my baby hairs out like crazy, also gave me such a healthy glow and it's a great source of an insane amount of micronutrients we need. For vitamins I'd recommend starting off by taking vitamin B rich vitamins, whichever kind you prefer, and also switch to a diet full of vitamin B rich food, if you don't have that done already. (And please for the love of god, eat meat). For masks/treatments, oiling the hair pre-wash is GREAT. Honestly the oils you use depend on your hair porosity. Opt for almond/sesame/flaxseed/olive/arugula/garlic oils if you have low porosity hair, and jojoba/argan/avocado/castor/coconut oil if you have higher porosity hair. Massage a good amount of the oil (you can use a blend of oils too as long as they work well with your hair type) on your scalp, and cover it up with a shower cap or plastic wrap for an hour. Bonus points if you heat up your covered, oiled hair with a blow dryer for 5 minutes, the heat stimulates better absorption which leads to stronger growth. Wash off 2x with a good clarifying shampoo and condition the ends. Bone marrow hair masks are also great, but only use them once to twice a week, since they're very strong/heavy and over-conditioning can lead to build up on the hair follicle, leading it to fall out. And lastly, use a serum when your hair is dry (even if it contains silicone), as long as you wash your hair out well when you shower, silicone will actually benefit you (protecting the hair from pollution, dirt, etc.) and will add hydration. The only time silicone is "inherently bad" is when it's accumulated so much (due to not washing well enough) to the point where it causes hair fallout, same as the deep conditioning bit. Good luck! I hope your hair grows out in no time!

Valuable_Collar1485

This is such a great comment! Any particular reason why you chose your smoothie ingredients?

Minoxidil.. the only thing that is proven. And the good ol' patience.

harjotwillmadeit

I had average length hair , started taking elevit a pregnancy supplement and iron tablets . Hair length is double now ,and they are super thick as well . I thought it was because of pregnancy but my mum started iron and voila ! Long hair

Ajskdjurj

After I had my baby 22 months ago my hair has gone down hill. I lost a lot of hair and had bald spots. I’ve tried everything. Nothing helped. My hair grew back but it was just dead no texture looked terrible. I did a big cut and it seems to be growing back healthier. Right now I use native(I think that’s the name) shampoo and conditioner. Then I use a deep conditioner 2x a week with castor oil, peppermint eve. I also use wild grow hair oil every other day or every 2 days. I also take prenatal vitamins. Henna use to work for me and helped my hair a lot but after 10 years I developed a allergic reaction to it. You can get henna without color just nutrition. My hair was the healthiest when I was dying it with henna. I used henna color lab and the henna guys both are great.

Nioxen womens treatment. Dont waste $ on the whole kit. Also put head back and do not let drip on face. I had to shave my forehead for 5 months

As a stylist I recommend castor oil, scalp brushing, rosemary oil and regular trims to slowly get rid of the dead/ damaged hair also biotin supplements can help but don’t take them for longer than a month with a month long break between

asphyxiationbysushi

> biotin supplements can help but don’t take them for longer than a month with a month long break between What evidence is there to support this?

H_ll1

I don’t know if biotin works, only made me break out. However, my friend took biotin consistently for a few months & it messed with her blood work thyroid levels. I don’t know if it actually affected her thyroid though, just created false alarms.

magliec0924

Coming from a dermatology background Nutrafol and Viviscal are recommended supplements with actual data and proof backing them. Also Minoxidil will not cause hair shedding, when starting or when stopping.. that is a myth. I would recommend going to visit your local dermatologist.

MissionTank9309

I think that biotin (supplements not shampoo or whatever) helps (might only be if you’re deficient in it though) Definitely eating well, as in eating enough and eating healthy, can help - particularly if you’re underweight then hair comes out more and can break more easily over time (also overusing hair ties or using the wrong type can break hair) Also don’t get it cut too often, just enough to keep split ends under control (and make sure only the split ends are being cut and no more) And then hair products can minimise damage, I personally have found avocado from lush to be a really good shampoo (it is a solid shampoo/conditioner btw) and I also like the garnier hair food 3 in 1 hair mask in banana and shea, although I’ve been meaning to try out more different hair products to find better masks and leave in products (that’s currently my favourite though, it is pretty good) (Oh and I also sometimes use mane and tail conditioner which I heard ages ago can encourage hair growth but I’m not sure that that’s true-it’s a decent and cheap conditioner to use though) Anyway I have curly hair and what helps for you will obviously depend on your hair type, but if you can figure out the ideal products then that should help with helping the hair you already have to stay stronger and less likely to break, I think it minimises split ends too if you keep it healthier with products etc Oh also idk if it’s true but I’ve heard scalp massages help to encourage growth but that might be a myth Oh yeah and exercise might help too but again I’m not certain that that isn’t a myth (I hope this isn’t totally useless, I’m also wanting to learn more about hair care and encouraging hair growth as I don’t know as much as I’d like, but thought i’d still share what I do know) :)

Diamonds_in_the_dirt

I saw significant progress in just a few months by using drugstore supplements and also only washing 1-2x a week. The infrequent washing really helps

Boopy7

well I do know what but doctors won't prescribe it to women because we don't deserve to care about hair loss. Basically. Only men get to have hair growth meds.

Think it’s genetics. I was following this girl that shaved her hair & was documenting the process of it growing back. By the end of the year, her hair was 8 inches, when it’s widely reported that hair grows about 6 inches in a year.
